Liberty: A Dane and Bones Origins Story
Dane Maddock Origins, Book 5
By: David Wood, Edward G. Talbot
Narrated by: Jeffrey Kafer
The two Navy Seals are taking R&R but get caught up in a mystery when a group called the Sons of the Republic decide they know too much. They start following leads to see what the group is hiding. It seems they were trying to find something that could change American history!
The story is fast, furious, and sprinkled heavily with funny dialogue that kept me giggling! Unpredictable situations kept popping up and equally unlikely escapes also happened! It was a wild but enjoyed ride with two crazy dudes! I will definitely get more of these books! This was book 5 in the series but I didn't feel lost about not reading any of the previous ones.
If you love a good action packed book with snarky, but not annoying, characters, suspense, all crammed in a short book then this is for you!
The narrator was Jeffrey Kafer, so I don't need to tell you that the narration was excellent!

Okay not the best in the series but I think that is because I am a uk listener and the American history ment nothing to me, still not sure what significance the artefact had to warrant so many death. Having said that I love the action scenes in the story and it is where Bones has the most fun, lots of witty one liners to annoy the bad guys holding guns on them. The story did seem shorter compared to some of the other books in the series but the author still packs a lot of action, history and humour. Off to join the deadly duo in another adventure.
An R&R trip turns deadly for Navy SEALs Dane Maddock and “Bones” Bonebrake when they realise someone is following them. It seems an old enemy, one They thought they had taken care of has the pair in there crosshairs. The only way to stop them is to beat them to whatever they are looking for first and in order to do that they need to visit a library or two and maybe change history in the process.
I liked the narrator. He continues to put in a good performance making the story entertaining.
I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntary left this review.

This is not the best book of Dane and Bones but still a good read and the banter that we got used to between these two keeps on making me laugh. Even when going on R&R trouble drops into their laps and the thrills and spills just keep on coming. The beginning of the book felt more like a history lesson and a bit boring but that, thankfully, soon changed. Could’ve been better but still ok.

I need a heads up next time Dane and Bones go on R&R. Nothing but action , suspense with history thrown in the mix.

Did it happen , could it have be true. The founding of America and her liberty could be have been different.

All narrated in great fashion by Jeffrey Kafer

Longer please!

I really like these. The stories are so much fun. I hope they never end. Wish they were longer, though.

Liberty by David Wood and Edward G. Talbot  is a Dane and Bones Origins story that gives us another great adventure from Dane Maddock and Uriah "Bones" Bonebreak. This time they are thrust into adventure by old rivals and start on a journey of discovering secret deals that were made right before the signing of the Constitution. They also discover that there may be more than one group ready to take advantage of what they discover.

The story begins with a trip back to 1787 where a small group of founding fathers meet secretly to debate a few issues that have risen with the Constitution. Debate follows and a deal is eventually struck that could alter the future of America forever. Benjamin Franklin and Edmund Randolph hide information of that meeting for future generations to find which remains that way until 1863 in Gettysburg, PA. Josiah Hawthorne travels with a document that could assist with the outcome of the Civil War. Disguised as a Confederate soldier, he sneaks into their camp to meet with General Robert E. Lee. After the meeting, Hawthorne is captured by the Union and the document goes missing along with him. When his companion, Bunyan, reports this information to his superior, he is told that there is another document and all is not lost.

Present day, Dane and Bones are getting some R&R in Philadelphia when they realize that they are being followed. A chase through town begins their adventure and puts them on the spot of uncovering a secret that has been guarded since the signing of the Constitution. Dane and Bones begin putting together the pieces of the puzzle to discover who is after them when they realize that they are tangled in another web of the Sons of the Republic. As Dane and Bones begin to uncover the clues to locating the original Library of Congress, the hidden clues of Benjamin Franklin, and the final document that everyone is after, they find out just how fragile things were when the country was just coming together. They also find out that another group may be looking to do more with the information found than anyone could ever imagine.

The Dane and Bones series has really become a favorite of mine and Liberty doesn't disappoint. The characters are great and I'm really enjoying Bones more and more. The story was fast paced and enjoyable, too. It's similar to Indiana Jones and National Treasure but it stands on its own with the special elements of both characters being Navy SEALs and getting along so well despite of, or because of, their differences in personalities. I have to admit that I haven't read the first book of the series ( Freedom ) yet and it seems that if I had it would help clear some things up, such as the Sons of the Republic and their main characters but this book can be read as a standalone. I would recommend picking up Freedom as well, which is what I'm doing next. This is a great addition to the Dan and Bones collection and I know you'll love it.

This was a complimentary copy of Liberty in eBook format for the Kindle from David Wood for preview and review. The opinions in this review are mine alone and from my own personal viewpoint.

Liberty is another fine addition to the Dane and Bones origin series. I gave it 4 stars only because I thought some of the other origins contained better stories. I do love the liberties taken with historical fact. Stories revolving around founding fathers, conspiracies, and hidden treasure always pique my interest. Any story that combines National Treasure, Indiana Jones, and Navy Seals... I'm all for it. Dane and Bones are my favorite written characters at the moment and I will surely be suckered into any adventure they dive in to.

If I had to find any issues with the story, they would be small. The first thing I noticed was the lack of date for the Bones portion of the story. Now, I know the text mentioned it being only a few months after Freedom, but a little context in the beginning would have been nice. It has kind of confused me as to the timeline of events for the origin stories. Another slight issue I had was found in the pace of the story. I felt like everything flew by at breakneck speeds. While I do enjoy the fast paced action pursued by Dane and Bones, I did not enjoy the quick transitions from scene to scene and the introductions of characters. I was a bit thrown off as to who was who and what their goals where regarding the ultimate goal. Now that is a small gripe I had with the story, but for the most part I thoroughly enjoyed the latest installment in the Dane Maddock Universe.

If you are a fan of the series, you will find tons of enjoyment in this origin story.

Another great insight into the beginnings of the team of Dane and Bones. Trouble once again finds our heroes while on leave. The Sons of Liberty pop up their little heads and attempt to eliminate the two Navy Seals.
Dane and Bones are on leave in Philadelphia and are drawn into a hunt for a secret document written at the time of the Constitution to allow states to leave the Union. It was hidden by Franklin out of concern.
Love the entwining of historical events with the brillant fiction of David Wood. What a different world we would live in within the US.... no Civil War... would we have the strength and power that we do as a union.
Great that a fact/fiction section is included at the end of the book.

Another fantastic adventure. Dane and Bones have become on of my favorite teams to read.

The sons of the Republic are back and they want payback for the events in Freedom. Dane and Bones will need to put their minds, wit and skills together in order to Come up with a crazy scheme to save themselves and get to the bottom of The Republics plan. In pure Dane & Bones style you can expect action, history, humour and those pesky bad guys. Wood and Talbot really know how to entertain and weave a good tale.

The fifth installment of the Dane and Bones origins series. They are now starting to act as a team with less of the early getting to know each other teething problems and wanting to kill each other!!! This book takes them to Philly, on leave from SEAL training, dragged into a new mystery around the signing of the Constitution. Which puts them on another collision course with the Sons of the Republic. Quick and entertaining read and further enhances the Dane and Bones series of books.

Another fun book

This series has just gotten better with each book. The writing is becoming more professional and the characters have more substance. I enjoy the humor and appreciate the lack of profanity.
