Fake Shot

Rate this book
We fake it, but it’s me who breaks it.

The past year living with Camden Steele has been hell on Earth.

He’s more court jester than NHL-bound goalie,

only making time for hockey and hook-ups.

Too bad his blasé, playboy lifestyle has caught up with him.

Now, he needs a tutor—not to mention a major reputation boost.

And as it turns out, I could use a fake boyfriend.

So, we strike a deal.

Having loathed hockey my entire life makes it a tough sell at first,

but the real undertaking is accepting the truth:

Though we’re opposites in many ways, he and I are not all that different.

And somewhere between the study sessions and shared secrets,

what started as make believe becomes the realest thing I’ve ever known.

That is, unless my lies end it all before it can truly begin.

*Fake Shot is the fifth in a five book standalone college sports romance series featuring two of the most opposites to ever attract, countless pages of soft boy moments, and a fake dating scheme filled with rules just waiting to be broken. Not suitable for anyone under 18 years of age.*

It's official: Camden is my favourite character in the Leighton U series! I called it from book one and I was so happy with how his story played out. Camden was just pure sunshine.

I definitely got leaky eyes and felt heartache multiple times. Every time Cam was so down on himself it made my heart hurt, and I loved how Logan talked him up and was his biggest cheerleader.

That said, I so wanted to slap Logan... you'll absolutely know exactly when I mean 😡 I also wanted to shout at Camden for the whole graduation thing, but I also understood the choice. Boys!!!

I think Cam was actually more emotionally mature than any other character in the series too. He felt his feelings, he talked about them, he removed himself from damaging situations, and he chose Logan's happiness over his own even when it was difficult to do so.

The wedding was brief but fun and I loved the mini reunion of the main friend group.

I also loved all of the links to other books through side characters! Logan's best friend Lexi is Keene's sister / Aspen's sister-in-law (Don't You Dare) and his other friend Willow is River's sister / Rain's sister-in-law (River of Rain). We even got a little appearance from River and Rain!

Sad that this series is over now, especially because college sports are always top of my book wish list, but I'm excited to see what comes next from Chelsea!

Fake Shot is the final entry in the Leighton U series, and this story features Camden, who is a lovable jock, and Logan, who is an introspective student. These two could not be more opposite in demeanor and overall personality, but due to an unforeseen event, they decide to fake date. This is a simple setup that quickly evolves quite naturally into a genuine friendship between both Camden and Logan. They quickly learn that the other is more than what they expected, and feelings begin to grow.

Overall, their relationship is really sweet and completely wholesome. Seeing them fall so easily for one another while being afraid that their feelings are not mutual creates much of the angst in this story.

I love the added moments with previous main characters and how they are so much more than simply friends. This series has a ton of heart, and watching these two messily find their way back to one another was completely heart-warming and made for a great finale.

WHAT A WAY TO END A SERIES!!!! This was fantastic and quite literally my version of a perfect book. I couldn’t have possibly loved it more than I did!!!! Can’t pick a favorite character, love them both SO much. THE BANTER! The sweetness! The angst! Outstanding characterization and chemistry! The slow burn! The conflict and plot was so well done, too. I just simply have no complaints. I’m so happy. I love so many of Chelsea’s books and this is now in my top 3, no doubt about it. Camden + Logan forever.❤️

The plot not being able to distract me from waiting for the other shoe to drop was not the kind of anticipation I was looking for.

Logan and Cam’s story was too predictable from the get-go. It was obvious there was gonna be a third-act breakup and it was also obvious what their breaking point was gonna be. All too soon it turned into a waiting game. I even predicted the exact way it was gonna go down, which I’m not particularly happy about, because I want the story to amaze me, to surprise me, rather than just catch up with me.

What’s worse, the third-act breakup didn’t solidify their love story for me, it destroyed it or, at least, weakened it significantly.
Everything that followed just chipped away at it bit after bit until I was left to feel like I was more invested in it than any of the characters.

That being said, I liked hanging out with that group of friends again, I liked the banter, the characters as individuals, the smut and the emotional connections between them all.

I just wanted a love story that would make me go: “aww” and not “argh”.

I don’t even know where to start with this one.
I deeply loved Camden and Logan’s story. From the very beginning I was hooked and I couldn’t stop reading. I’ve been waiting for Camden’s book for so long and, as always, Ce Ricci just delivers.

But at the same time, it hurts… because this is the end. Five books with these boys and now I have to let them go, and I’m not okay.

Camden and Logan are so much more than what you see on the surface. They’re both hiding so much, Camden with his feelings of not being enough, Logan with everything that comes with being a Reed. And it’s only when they start faking this relationship that things get real, and they finally start seeing each other for who they actually are. That’s when everything shifts.

I was laughing and screaming with the cameos, and also crying (that phone call from Camden to the guys… uuuffff…)

This book is a full emotional rollercoaster. Beautiful, raw, and yes… the pain. The HEA doesn’t come easy, but when it does, it hits hard and feels so deserved.

Have I mentioned how much I love them?? Because I love them with my whole heart.

I’m going to miss this entire group so much. And as always, Ce Ricci’s writing is just perfect!

I’d like to keep this one simple, that feels the most honest.
C.E. Ricci is one of those authors I’ve read and will read everything by.

The writing, the atmosphere, the emotional tone and the vibe, all of that just works for me, every single time no matter 5 or 4 stars it is.

And yes, you can often see where the story is going, the tropes may be familiar, but it doesn’t matter.

It’s never only about what happens, it’s about how she makes you feel while it does.
And she does it soooo well 😻

I’m both so happy and so sad that the Leighton series is finished 💔
Camden and Logan were probably the sweetest couple, no better word for it 🧡

Even when things felt obvious or expected, it didn’t take away the overall vibe. If anything, it made it better, you feel like living in those emotions fuller..

Camden said it that he felt “raw and bleeding from the whiplash of emotions” - that’s what her writing feels like to me.
She just has this talent to make you feel everything together with the characters, like I wasn’t just reading Camden and Logan’s story, I was longing, pining, and loving together with them 🥹
And for me that is what makes a book perfect 💗

Camden and Logan were everything I needed and more. These two started off as fake, but as their walls came down for each other they turned into something so real. Even if they wouldn't admit it to each other. They are honestly one of my favorite couples from this series. I don't even have a specific reason for that, but these two quickly worked their way into my heart and I was swooning and rooting for them so hard. They both have so much more to them then meets the eye. I loved their individual growth throughout the story and they brought tears to my eyes several times. They are truly perfect for each other and I love them dearly.

I'm so sad this series is over, but I'm so happy it has the perfect ending. The cameos from all the previous characters from this series and others was the perfect addition to this book as well. I know the series is over, but I hope we will be seeing these characters in other books moving forward. 10/10 amazing, wonderful, and perfect. Don't mind me doing a whole series re-read soon.

Oh boy, this series is top-tier for sure. Ce Ricci really puts together amazing stories you'll never forget about, and that's a fact ✨️

Logan and Camden.. the things they made me feel. This is a hockey romance story, although only one of them plays hockey, while the other one does not like the sport at all.

When Camden decides to help Logan with certain things, their whole relationship gets in another level.

I absolutely loved the cameos of the previous characters in this book, and the way they really had the best type of friendship.

I adore a good fake dating/forced proximity story, and this one is a must-read 💗

BORING! Seriously, why on earth does a simple fake boyfriend story need to be this long? It is such a huge letdown to see the series end with a book this disappointing.

That classic trope of "ending everything over a few overheard words" is so forced and stupid. Pulling the separation trick once wasn't enough, so they had to do it a second time? I have zero patience for these childish games anymore.

After publishing so many books, the author's writing has not improved at all. In fact, it feels like a step backward in this story. The style is getting more and more childish, and the romance between the main characters completely failed to hit the spot for me.

I am permanently deleting the two books in this series that I disliked from my memory right now.

I seem to be in the minority here, but the book seemed to be dragging a lot and I could not feel any chemistry, tension, match or anything between the MCs.

Wow. I don’t even know what to say. I can’t believe it’s the end for our Leighton U boys. I fell in love with this series immediately when I read Iced Out and it was fun to see everything come full circle by ending with Logan. Cam and Logan was were so stinkin sweet, I couldn’t get enough of them. Their story was sweet and it was not easy. CE had me crying more than once while reading this one. I’m so glad Logan and Cam got their HEA, they certainly deserved it. Do yourself a favor and read this series/book! You won’t be disappointed.

”You kept this? The whole time?” I nod, feeling my throat get thicker. “I didn’t want to throw away the moments where I was falling in love with you.”

Camden, the precious angel bb, you are. “Erect dick-copter” and all. New favorite character from this series. Not to say I didn’t like Logan, I think he was the perfect fit for Camden.

-.5 due to the back and forth at the end and it all boiling down to my least fav trope: missed communication‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️

I’ll miss this series. 🥺

i should have dnfed when i had to force myself to read this crap from the beginning. i forgot all the other books in the series so the characters were all jumbled and the Mcs of this book were not interesting at all.

and then after dragging myself to get through the book they have to stupidest fucking miscommunication third act break up that lasts for like a year and a half. and then on top of that they have another break up for another half a year before they pull their stupid heads out of their asses.

like all of this could have been avoided if u simply opened ur dumbass mouth and talked.

and i don’t love either MC but Cam was particularly annoying. especially when he complain about people only wanting him for a night or two but completely went along with the narrative. u don’t have to sleep with people and have one night stands. it’s not a requirement to be a whore.

and going off that when they were having their stupid ass third act break for 2 years there’s no way cam kept his dick in his pants and the times they did have sex during that protection wasn’t discussed?? i would have liked clarification on cams side.

Before reading this i had seen multiple people posting saying how they cried reading this. I thought they were just emotional because they were sad to say goodbye to the last Leighton U book. Did I cry? 100%!!! Camden and Logan took me out! I loved Camden right from the start & to now know what he was struggling with makes me love him even more. He was pure sunshine. Logan was so adorable. I wanted to yell at them a few times but, I loved them together. The energy and chemistry they brought was amazing. Great end to the series, even though I'm so sad its over.

I really enjoyed this story, but the frustrations I had while reading definitely stuck with me afterward.

The biggest issue for me was the third act breakup (and honestly, is it really a “third act breakup” when there are only a handful of pages left? What act is that…fourth, fifth, final?). It came so late in the story that it felt less like a meaningful turning point and more like a last-minute push for conflict. Don’t get me wrong, we could see it coming a mile away, and Camden’s reasoning actually made sense. I appreciated that he wasn’t willing to let sacrifices turn into future resentment. But the execution didn’t fully land for me.

They step away from each other… and then a short time later, they’re able to reconcile. It just didn’t feel like it added enough to justify that level of emotional disruption so late in the book.

That said, there was still so much I loved here. One of the highlights was getting to see so many familiar faces from the Leighton U series again. Those moments really reinforced how much I’ve loved this world as a whole. And the little Easter eggs with River/Rain and Aspen/Keene? Absolutely appreciated…they had me smiling.

Overall, this was a solid read and a satisfying way to spend more time in this world, even if the ending didn’t hit quite as strongly for me as I’d hoped. I’m definitely sad to see this series come to an end, but I’m really looking forward to whatever comes next from C.E. Ricci.

Rating would've been higher if they were broken up for less time .. I mean, broken up for over a year because of miscommunication!? Jail.

I knew that would be why the 3rd act breakup happened, but when I saw that time jump.. awful.

Then they break up AGAIN, for literally no reason, and are separated AGAIN for months.

Anyway, it was great and sweet and wonderful until that like 70-80 percent mark.

I love this book

RATING: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
SPICE: 🌶️🌶️🌶️

There is just something about those Reed men that turns me into a puddle. Dear lord I loved this book so much, it was pure magic from start to finish (yes, including the third act breakup because I’m not even mad about it)

Who knew it was going to be Camden and Logan that were going to steal my heart even more than Oak and Quinton.

These two broken babies were everything. I love them so much, and let’s be honest it’s always going to be the golden retrievers that win my heart.

✨ Hockey Romance
✨ Brother’s Best Friend
✨ Fake Dating
✨ Forced Proximity
✨ Dislike to Love
✨ Black Cat x Golden Retriever
✨Only One Bed

This book was the perfect ending to the Leighton U Universe, and I could not put it down. Not only did we get some absolutely amazing cameos, Camden and Logan stood on their own to make this one something special.

Or maybe I just love a broken boy himbo because that combo doesn’t come around too often and Camden Steele might be my favorite hero of the whole damn series.

And Logan… Little Reed was everything i wanted and more. I love the Fake dating, the way these two opened up to each other in ways that no one else saw. And just getting to watch them click and fall In love… my heart was beating out of my chest.

Also I will never not melt at baby being used as a nicknames for a burly tough athlete. It is my holy grail.

This book is everything. It hurst because of course it does, the third act destroys you because of course it does, and I cannot think of a single thing I would change.

10/10. No notes. What a great way to say goodbye even though I don’t want to leave this world

What an absolutely beautiful way to end this series! It was a rough one and of course i cried.. ALOT lol but these two were absolutely worth it! Cam is a fucking GEM! I knew he was going to end up being my favorite characters in this series. He’s just so damn sweet and funny ugh I love him!! Logan on the other hand, annoyed the fuck out of me most of the time with his constant complaining about literally everything and with how rude he always was to literally everyone for no reason BUUUT he did have his moments and those moments really came through and made me still love him. But girl these two together had my drooling and wanting more!! their sexual chemistry was insane and I was completely shook off my ass with how dirty of a mouth Logan had! I definitely wasn’t expecting that haha but this was the perfect way to end a series! I’m going to miss it so much but I’ll always come back!

Cute, adorable, poor Camden.
This was a rollercoaster of feelings. I'm usually not into the fake boyfriends trope and even here the start was a huge stretch and needed just going with it. The animosity was real on Logan's part and made him all kinds of unattractive. But...I was hooked.
I'm not gonna spoil but I got mad and tears were shed.
A great read and a great ending to this series.

Nice read.

Safety: not safe.
Both main characters are with other people after they meet. Mainly Camden, since he’s a manwhore. As for Logan, it’s just said that it’s been a while.

There’s a one and a half year separation, and there’s no mention of other partners, so it’s left up to the imagination (🙄🙄).

I can't believe this is the end 🥹

First, I just want to say that there aren't many series out there to where I loved each book, but CE Ricci you definitely had me hooked from the beginning with this group of guys. I know you're looking forward to new projects that aren't college & sports, but you really did an amazing job with this series and bringing these guys stories to life. Thank you for giving your readers this.

Now onto my review on Camden & Logan. These guys had me grabbing my box of tissues from early on into their story, but that was mainly for Camden. Ugh,the way my heart broke for this precious man and his inner dialog. I've loved Camden from the very beginning and his story just made me love him even more.

Logan however, I was not a fan of because he was just so mean to Camden for no good reason, but he definitely grew on me once he got to learn more about Camden and you got to see Logan's softer side and now I just love him too.

It was a fun time to have all the past guys be included in this final story and see how they ended up years later. Also River am I guessing Willow's brother is River and him and Rain made an appearance at the graduation because if so than hell yeah!

Spice 🌶 🌶 🌶  who would have known that Little Reed had such a dirty mouth on him lol. These two were 🔥 together with their sexual chemistry.
