Nick Woods #2

Mexican Heat

Rate this book
Nick Woods is tired of waiting. America's greatest sniper has spent the better part of two years up in the mountains of Montana, waiting for the government to double-cross him and try to come get him.

But waiting in isolation, with his wife Anne gone, has caused his paranoia to reach dangerous levels. It's killing him, day-by-day.

And so Nick ventures out. Carefully, like Nick does everything.

But what Nick doesn't know is that the Mexican government stands on the verge of complete collapse.

A brilliant madman has united the drug cartels into a deadly alliance, and the Mexican President holds a perilous grip on power.

America has already sent a team of Navy SEALs to deal with this cartel, but that proved a catastrophe.

The country needs Nick Woods again, and it needs him now.

Ugh

Poorly written, it seemed the author was simply attempting to generate as many words as possible Normally I'll stay with a badly written book in hopes it will eventually offer something redemptive. Never happened. I completed this read only to offer this review.

No Cigar

Slow pacing, repetition and too much pointless discussion of minor characters made this book a disappointment after the first Nick Woods story. This needed serious editing.

Stan Mitchell and his "hero" Nick Woods are fantastic new additions for those readers who like Brad Thor, Tim Tigner, Brian Haig and Lee Childs. The protagnoist is a marine first and foremost. This book is very fast-paced. The plot also move very fast, with many twists and turns. The corrupt Mexican drug cartels and the actions between the Mexican government, our government, and Nick Woods. Very interesting "bad guy" who is very evil and a good person to bve "taken down" by Nick Woods. And the suspense literally goes right up to the very end. Very good action scenes, "combat" scenes against the well-armed and equipped Cartel hencemen and the "good guys." Also very good mano-a-mano fight with Nick Woods and arch evil. Looking forward to Book #3

Mexican Heat by Stan R. Mitchell

In Mexican Heat we are introduced to a new Nick Woods. He has been running and hiding for two years. Now he is just bored. He is approached and presented with the task of helping Mexico deal with it's drug cartel problem before it becomes an American problem.

What a great plot. It is mysterious, exciting, and even emotional. Nick learns a lot about himself and his leadership abilities in this book. It is a really well written book with addictive characterization. I am looking forward to reading the next one.

Takes a bit, to get going. Keep reading, it gets better.

After Nick's wife was killed, in book one, he just goes away for a bit. He eventually returns, and goes to Mexico. He becomes a leader of a new group. S3. Working off the books, to take down the cartels. Lots of action.

Really enjoyed this story. Gritty, tough and fast paced. The life of a warrior is a hard journey as Nick Woods shows. I look forward to reading more from Mr. Mitchell.

This 2nd adventure of warrior-sniper Nick Woods finds him reluctantly hired by the CIA to take a team of hot-shot trigger-pullers into Mexico to tackle the powerful Godesto cartel after it slaughters a SEAL team and targets the president. To say things get hot would be an understatement on par with saying a Colt .45 packs more punch than a Daisy BB gun. And the heat isn't limited to explosions and firefights--though there are a plethora of those--it also comes from Isabella, a curvaceous team member with sensual Latina sizzle to spare, the kind of woman that can turn even Nick Woods' head.

If the thought of a novel that reads like Tom Clancy on steroids gets you excited, prepare to pop wood like you chugged a bottle of Viagra. "Mexican Heat" spins an intricate, political plot much like Clancy, but cranks up the gunplay, hand-to-hand combat, and overall action quotient while chopping out all the boring stuff. Much like Nick Woods himself, this book is lean and mean and packed with hard muscle.

Bottom line, if you enjoy books where the good guys kick the crap out of the bad guys, then this novel needs to be in your hands most ricky-tick.

WARNING: If you’re on blood pressure medicine this book is not for you without consulting your doctor first.

Most books in a series get markedly better as they go, especially for new authors. In this case that is not only true but an understatement of massive proportions.

This book isn’t a step or a leap forward it’s a quantum jump forward. There’s action with a capital
A and thrills with a capital T.

The author takes on the drug cartels with a vengeance. You have guns of all makes and models, RPGs, Explosions, Swat teams, Navy Seals, Mexican neck ties, mortar attacks, hand to hand combat, and oh ya a sword wielding maniac that makes the old Ginsu chefs look like amateurs.

If you’re new to the series then feel free to get the book. It stands on its own but to really get the full experience get the first one AND this one and read them back to back.

This is another great example of Indie authors who can stand proudly toe to toe with any traditional published author out there.

A mandatory addition to your adrenaline, heart pounding book collection.

This is Book #2 in the Nick Woods series. If you haven't read Sold Out yet, you may want to read it first, although it certainly isn't necessary to get full enjoyment out of Mexican Heat. This book takes place two years after Nick has dealt with all of the people responsible for the death of his wife. Well, all but one, who he is still trying to identify. The Mexican government is on the verge of falling into the hands of a drug cartel. The SEAL teams sent down to help out were ambushed. Nick is chosen to cut the head off the snake. He is able to put together an elite team of his own and head on down Mexico way. It seems that this is a two headed snake and the head of the cartel is murdered in prison by his own man. Nick comes up with a brilliant plan to take out the cartel and return control to the Mexican President. This is a thrilling page turner you will not want to put down.

Thinking big!

My second helping of Mr Mitchell's work and a worthy effort it is. Let's face it there is a lot of fiction out there about special forces and former special forces and it is hard to come up with new or creative angles. Sometime you just have to think big! How about taking on the biggest drug cartel in Mexico that is currently trying to take over the entire Mexican government. And let's throw in a little, crazed, martial arts expert, madman weasel just for fun. What do you get? Action galore and the good guys don't always come out on top. An excellent effort by author Mitchell. Why didn't I give it five stars? This is an improvement over Mitchell's first effort but I suspect he has better things to come. Have to save one star for his next effort which I suspect will be even better.

Excellent story

I enjoyed this book and heartily recommend it. Yes I am stingy with my stars. The author humbly admitted his mistake about the presidential items. One other glaring mistake was the president offering a reward in US currency. That would never happen here. It would have been in Pesos. The violence is not country wide. Mostly relegated to the borders and outskirts of large cities. Politicians, unfortunately, are elected based on the fiestas they throw. Election time here is one big party.

Lots of action.....

In this book. Nick seems to blow hot one minute, cold the next
Seems to doubt himself then is over confident. He wants Isabelle, he doesn't, she's one of his subordinates. He wants to get blitzed, he shouldn't. His PTSD is front and center in his mind. He's calm, cool and collected. He's on a rollercoaster ride. Hope he doesn't fall off!!! Whew!!! Amarillo Turtle

Another fast paced, impossible to put down Nick Woods adventure. Hard to believe, impossible to dismiss as unbelievable.

This character portrayal is the reason I choose to read novels rather than watch TV or movies. It is much more realistic to allow your own imagination to envision the scenes than to watch someone else's.

Just bad, really bad

Not even good to read if you have absolutely nothing else to read. Not sure where these pages and pages of really bad writing comes from. It must have been really hard to produce so many pages of nonsense and garbage.

Speedball

This one "hell" of a page turner. The action never stops, yet the plot remains mostly plausible; something difficult to accomplish. Looking for much more from Sgt Mitchell!

Sniper Nick Woods vs. Mexican drug cartel

Nick Woods takes on a ruthless drug gang and the action never stops. Some existential navel gazing, but not heavy handed. If you like the sniper, loner type hero, this book is for you.

Follow up to Sold Out by Mitchell.

Basic action no brainer shoot 'em up. Nothing to make this stand out from any of the many books of this genre.
