Some of these reviews are harsh. It's a solid 8.5/10 read - rounded down to 4 out of 5. Breaches topics of quantum physics and other dimensions (Interstellar - esque) without droning on. None of the cringy dialog typical of sci fi reads either.

Omega Sol (2008) by Scott Mackay.

I liked the new twists on old themes. Aliens invade the moon, speed up the combustion rate of the sun, and don't seem to notice that humans will be affected. Mackay creates worldwide disasters, but never loses sight of the people who are directly affected.

Big ideas, challenging scientific concepts, and honest depictions of the way people act (and interact) in the real world, captured in crisp, fast-moving prose.

Interesting read. I picked it up while grocery shopping since I'm into the SyFy genre. I would recommend this if you have nothing else in your queue, but I found this to be a bit slow. Admittedly, I was happy it was over, so could begin The name of the wind.

Not a bad story, but the characters were one dimensional and inconsistent.
