A spicy, coach's daughter hockey romcom. Two words describe Happy Slater; unserious and slutty. The second line defenseman, son of a former supermodel and a rockstar, is known for a good time and not a lot else. But sometimes appearances can be deceiving, and it’s often the ones we least expect that are hiding the biggest secrets.
Hannah Draper, daughter of New York Thunder head coach, Lance Draper, has officially had it with men. Forced to wait in the rain for an Uber that never shows, that is driven by—yep—a man, it only proves her point that all men suck.
During her time of need, the last person Hannah wants to accept help from is Happy Slater, but desperate times often lead to terrible mistakes. After an unexpected night of hate-filled passion, they part ways only to find themselves brought back together again, and again, and again.
Just when Hannah thinks she’s got Happy figured out, he opens up his heart and shares his deepest secrets with her. This new side to the once insufferable member of her dad’s hockey team has her cold heart thawing and her resolve to cancel all men starts to slip. But as the unlikely pair try to navigate their foreign feelings together, ghosts from their past start to surface, threatening everything.
With more than just their hearts on the line, will they be strong enough to hold on to their Happy Every After?

✨️Thank you so much to Shann and Smuthood PR for this ARC for my honest review. Listen to me, if you love Hockey romances and you have yet to read the New York Thunder series, what are you waiting for? They're all 5 🌟 reads! This was my first book of the year and I really don't know how I'm going to beat it. The super secret trope was actually my favorite and I can't wait for everyone to experience this book. I'm so sad that one of my favorite series has ended. I'm already planning on a re-read because this has become a comfort series for me. 100% recommend!
Also Shann, you absolutely killed it with the Playlist. 😭😍 I'm a sucker for a good Playlist.
DNF at 30%. This book just wasn’t for me. What initially made me request this ARC were the hockey and frenemies with benefits tropes, but I stopped reading after the first three chapters. I found the pacing to be way too fast for my liking, and I’m not someone who loves insta love romances, so my choice to stop reading was more about my own reading preferences than the book itself. Readers who enjoy enemies to lovers insta love romances with a faster paced plot will probably love this book.
Wow! I loved everything about Happy and Hannah. The book was a ton of fun and there were so many moments I was laughing out loud. Shann did an amazing job balancing the humor and spice with a storyline that had me hooked.
Happy was sweet, spicy, and swoony, which made him the dream book boyfriend. I loved seeing so many different sides of him. He was the perfect match for Hannah, who was a total baddie! I loved that she was a fighter and stood up for herself.
My favorite part of the book was definitely the secret trope! How could it not be! I also loved seeing the other characters in the story and how supportive the friend group was throughout.
I absolutely inhaled this book in a single sitting 😍 I loved it so much!!
Hannah is fed up with men, she's independant, sharp tongued and a sassy bad ass who knows what she wants and she definitely wants nothing to do with the manwhore Happy Slater... but he's charming, gorgeous and it turns out he's impossible to resist, even if its just for the benefits 🤭
Shann promised us a spicer New York Thunder book than the last 3 and oooh boy did she deliver 🥵
Their banter is on point and their chemistry is off the charts and the yummy spice starts in chapter 3 🎉 no slow burn agony for us in this book
This is a brilliantly written, laugh out loud funny, sweet, swoon-worthy, feet kickingly good story with fun plot twists and a WTF super secret trope you should add to your TBR immediately and if you haven't already... read the other 3 books in this series... you will not regret it
🏒 Hockey Romance 💚 Frienemies with benifits 🏒 Reformed playboy 💚 He falls first 🏒 Coaches daughter 💚 A super secret trope
Thank you so much Shann McPherson and The Smuthood for this fabulous ARC opportunity ❤️
What an ending to an amazing series. I absolutely loved Happy and Hannah’s story - apart he is the playboy and she is the fierce and independent coaches daughter - together they are pure magic. They put their trust and faith into each other and it’s heartwarming to read. I laughed out loud, I gasped and I cried. I devoured this book because it was so hard not to be addicted to them - I was sucked in and all I wanted was more. The romance was chef kiss, the chemistry was OFF THE CHARTS and the spice was on point! I have loved this series and I’m so upset we have to say goodbye to these amazing men and their ladies. I have loved every second of them all. Thank you so much to Shann and the team at Smuthood for this eARC in exchange for my honest review
Book 4 in The New York Thunder Series Hannah and Happy's story
Okay first off, I need a spin off of some sort that is Toast Malone! I am obsessed with him! Now that that is out of the way, this is my first from Shann and first in this interconnected standalone series and I really enjoyed this book! It was fast paced, lovable characters, and moments that had me smiling and laughing and moments where I was saying WTF! Hannah is the coach's daughter and Happy is on her father's team so that obviously makes her off limits...or you would think. Reading their story I felt like I was there watching this all unfold.
I can't wait to go back and read the rest of the series!
Absolutely spectacular! I adored this book! Happy is a complete golden retriever, and the forbidden (ish) nature of their relationship is so fun! And PLOT TWIST GALORE. I did NOT see that plot twist coming at all, and I LOVED what it did to the story - it all became so much more real, and sincere, and sweet. Fantastic read
📚 ARC BOOK REVIEW — Happy Ever After by Shann McPherson
First off… this was an easy 5‑star read for me. No hesitation. It releases on January 14th, and I’m still over here squealing that I got to dive in early with an ARC.
Happy Ever After is book four in the New York Thunder series, and I’ve been obsessed with this cast ever since I read my first book of the series which was book three. So when I saw book four was coming? Immediate excitement. Immediate ARC Request. Happy dance when I got the selection email. Immediate devour.
Shann writes the kind of fast‑paced, page‑turning romances that hook you from chapter one, and this story was exactly that. This time we follow Happy and Hannah, and while I got a little taste of Hannah’s storyline in book three, you absolutely don’t need to read the previous books to jump into this interconnected standalone. Shann weaves in everything you need without ever slowing the pace.
And listen… the drama brewing at the end of book three? It pops off immediately in chapter one here — and Happy is right there to step in and help Hannah through it.
This enemies → frenemies → lovers arc brings the heat, the tension, the banter, and the chemistry. Happy is a full‑blown playboy, and Hannah is confident, bold, and completely unafraid to own her sexuality. Together? They waste zero time.
Tropes you’ll find: 🏒 hockey romance 🏒 coach’s daughter x teammate 🏒 enemies to lovers 🏒 reformed playboy
And can we talk about Happy’s nickname for her? “Baby Draper.” It starts playful, but as the story grows, it becomes swoony, tender, and so reflective of his shift from carefree playboy to fiercely protective boyfriend who is all in.
I loved everything about this storyline — the hookups that turn into something deeper, the protective energy Happy gives off as Hannah navigates work drama and the tension with her mom, and the way the whole cast fits together so naturally. There’s even a super secret trope woven in that I refuse to spoil, but trust me… it hits and makes the story that much deeper.
Shann has quickly become one of my favorite new‑to‑me authors in the last six months, and this swoony, funny, fast‑paced hockey romance absolutely delivered. I didn’t want it to end.
Add this one to your TBR — Happy and Hannah deserve a spot on your shelf.
4.5⭐️ rounded up. For fans of hockey romcoms, frenemies to lovers, he falls first, former playboy, fmc with asshole ex, sexy video chat moments, “good boy”, situationship to lovers, coach’s daughter, and secret relationship
Alpha Read Thoughts
I am so sad this is the end of the New York Thunder series!!! 😩 It’s so rare to find a romcom series I love each book for! Happy’s story is the perfect one to end on though and I cannot wait to reread once the final version is out! Thank you Shann for trusting me with your book baby!
ARC Read Thoughts
“Happy Ever After” is Happy and Hannah’s story. I have loved both of them as side characters in the first three books and was so excited when I found out they were going to be paired together!
On the surface they are total opposites — Happy growing up the son of a famous model and a rock star and known as one of the biggest goofballs and playboys on the team. Hannah being a thorough girl’s girl, having a successful sports media career, and the daughter of the New York Thunder’s head coach.
This series is all about playboys who fall hard and fast and that’s no different with Happy! I love how down bad he was for Hannah right away and how much he wanted to be there for her (inside and outside the bedroom). Hannah definitely didn’t make it easy for him with her preconceived notions about the notoriously unserious hockey stud. But I really liked how we got her realizing that she (and others) might not know Happy as well as she thought. There’s a lot of layers to both of them and it was so sweet reading how they both slowly uncovered those.
There is a surprise secret trope and when I first got to it I literally yelled “wtf” and went running to the author’s DMs lol. It played out so well and I loved how it gave us more layers to the characters.
Overall, definitely recommend this whole series for hockey romance fans and especially if you love romcoms! You don’t need to read the series in order either but I do think there’s some points in the third book that set up Hannah’s background well.
I DEVOURED this book. Absolutely inhaled it. Happy Ever After was funny, spicy, messy, emotional, and way deeper than I expected in the best possible way. Hockey romcoms are my weakness and this one hit every single craving 😍
Happy Slater is introduced as this unserious, slutty, walking red flag of a man and honestly? I was ready to roast him. But WOW was I wrong. The layers on this man??? The vulnerability??? The secrets??? I went from side-eyeing him to fully feral for him. He’s the perfect example of don’t judge the hot hockey boy by his reputation.
And Hannah Draper. QUEEN. Coach’s daughter, fed up with men, emotionally guarded, sharp-tongued and relatable as hell. Her “cancel all men” era was iconic and I loved how real her frustrations felt. The rain, the Uber, the bad timing—ugh, we’ve all been there. Her chemistry with Happy was instant, chaotic, and SO GOOD. Hate-filled passion that turns into something real is my catnip and this book served it hot.
Their banter had me laughing out loud, the spice was 👀🔥 (like excuse me, sir), and then Shann McPherson casually ripped my heart out by letting Happy open up. Watching Hannah’s walls come down as she sees the man behind the image? Chef’s kiss. Emotional whiplash in the best way.
The found-family vibes, the team dynamics, the pressure of being the coach’s daughter, the ghosts from the past creeping in—it all raised the stakes so perfectly. This wasn’t just a romcom, it had HEART. And when things got hard, I was genuinely stressed because I cared so much about them together.
Happy and Hannah omg I loved loved them. And Lucky too—I need more, immediately, thank you very much.
If you love spicy hockey romance, fake hate that turns into real feelings, secretly soft MMCs, and laugh-out-loud moments mixed with emotional depth… READ THIS BOOK. Happy Ever After absolutely earned its name and my five stars 💖🏒🔥
I absolutely love this series, and Happy’s story was the perfect way to end it! This is how you give proper closure to one of your all-time favorite hockey series. It was sexy, funny, swoony, and tender, and even though I knew there was a secret trope involved, I did not expect it to be that trope. That surprise made the story even more perfect for me.
Happy… my man. What a man he is! Truly flawless, no notes. Once the big secret was revealed, I was completely swooning. With patience, love, and a little “luck” (IYKYK), he absolutely won Hannah over.
Hannah was a great FMC. I loved how she genuinely disliked Happy at first, but she was not blind to his appeal, so she decided to have a little fun. What she did not expect was that she could not keep her heart at bay, and I am so glad she did not try to. She became Happy’s person, his safe place, and his biggest support, which made their relationship even more meaningful.
A quick heads-up for readers: the spice hits early, around chapter three. Happy and Hannah have known each other for three years, and after some events, they decide to give in and have one night of fun that turns into many more. It is during those nights that the big trope is revealed and everything takes a sharp turn. From there, their relationship starts to deepen as they realize they mean far more to each other than they expected. So please do not let comments about the early spice deter you from picking this up. There is a solid, engaging plot that will keep you completely hooked.
I am genuinely sad that this series is over. It has easily become one of my comfort hockey reads, and I cannot recommend it enough. If you want to laugh, swoon, and maybe even shed a few tears, do not hesitate to pick up this series!
Thank you so much to Shann and The Smuthood for the ARC of this awesome book!
I absolutely loved this book! It completely pulled me out of a reading slump, and even while life was insanely busy, I made it my mission to read this as fast as possible. That alone says everything.
Happy and Hannah own my heart. From the start, I loved that they both had fire, personality, and depth that made them stand out immediately. Happy may be introduced as the team’s unserious, reformed playboy, but wow does he have layers. Watching him fall hard and fast, completely down bad for Hannah, was everything I love about hockey romances. He was sweet, spicy, swoony, and surprisingly vulnerable which made him the ultimate book boyfriend.
And Hannah Draper is a total queen! As the coach’s daughter and a fiercely independent, sharp tongued woman with her guard up, she felt so real. I loved how much of a fighter she was and how she stood up for herself even when it was messy or uncomfortable. Their chemistry was instant, chaotic, and absolutely off the charts. The frienemies with benefits dynamic paired with the super secret trope was pure magic.
One of my favorite things about this book was that the secret was completely unpredictable. I genuinely did not see it coming which made it even better. Predictable books are the worst, and this one kept me fully on my toes in the best way. The reveal added so much depth and raised the stakes without feeling forced.
The banter had me laughing out loud, the spice was so good, and then Shann McPherson hit me straight hard with all the feelings. The emotional depth, the vulnerability, and the way both characters slowly peeled back each other’s layers was beautifully done. I gasped, I laughed, and I cried.
What a perfect ending to an amazing series. I am genuinely heartbroken to say goodbye to these characters but so grateful for the journey.
Listen - Shann can do absolutely no wrong in my book. If she writes it, I’m reading it. And even though this is the final book in the series (and I never wanted it to end), I started the second this ARC hit my inbox.
Happy Slater has a reputation for being a bit of a manwhore - but he’s charming, magnetic, and impossible to resist. Beneath that reputation, though, is a man who is beautifully sensitive, deeply selfless, and unwaveringly devoted. I loved him far more than I was prepared for.
Hannah Draper is a force. Fierce, no-nonsense, and very off-limits - considering she’s the coach’s daughter. Lines exist for a reason…until they don’t.
One rainy night with no Uber in sight is all it takes to cross that line, and once it’s crossed? There is absolutely no going back. Add in a major secret, and good luck putting this book down.
Yes, this book is spicy - and there’s a lot of it (the delicious, give me more kind) - but what really stood out was the depth and emotional complexity of these characters. Watching Happy and Hannah fall for each other, realize it, and choose not to be afraid of it was so incredibly satisfying. They wanted it. They chose it. When you know, you know.
Shann laid everything on the table with this one, and I’ll confidently say this is her best work yet. If you do one thing in 2026, add the New York Thunder series to your TBR - then immediately bump it to the top and prioritize it. 😂
Thank you to The Smuthood and Shann McPherson for the opportunity to read this ARC. It’s going to take me a minute to emotionally recover.
“This is dangerous. And silly. And careless. And all of the things. But, if I’m being honest, it also feels… right.”
Oh my what a way to end this series. And the super secret trope will have a fist squeezing your heart tight, but when I tell you it’s perfect. It’s so perfect and fitting for these two.
I loved how Happy had two different sides to him, the one the public sees and the one only those close to him get to see. He was so sincere and sweet when he was just himself and I loved the way he treated Hannah. He may of been a ladies man but the second he got hooked on her, from that very first time, he was devoted to her.
“Yes, she’s hot and sexy as hell and all that, but she’s also just… pretty. She takes my breath away.”
Hannah is fun, and most definitely badass. I love how she handles the *super secret trope*. Honestly she just slides right into Happy’s world. I love how she sticks up for herself, and those she loves. And she owns the sweetest pup ever, Toast Malone (honestly such a cool name) I just love her and the way she refuses to let her heart get hurt again but still isn’t afraid to fall. She shows how those two things can happen at once.
They are so spicy. This is probably the spiciest of the series, because these two do not know how to keep it in their pants. Even when they aren’t doing it they’re thinking about it and it’s perfect.
“A really fucking hot jerk with a magic penis, but a jerk nonetheless.”
Everything just clicks into place perfectly for these two and it’s just so stunning. They are like magnets, always drawn to each other.
And of course seeing the past couples pop up was absolutely fantastic. Fran and Robbie and still my all time favourites and everytime they popped up in this I was squealing. Happy’s family was so cool too, especially his dad, an old rocker that had me laughing a lot.
I can’t believe this is the last one in this series. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟x10
“This is so much more than just frenemies with benefits, and strangely, it’s not even half as terrifying as I thought it would be.”
Title: Happy Ever After Author: Shann McPherson Series: Yes New York Thunder #4 Can be read as standalone? Yes Genre: Romance (Sports) Format: Ebook Platform: ARC Thank you so much to Shann and the team at Smuthood for this eARC in exchange for my honest review ⭐ Ratings Overall: ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆ (4/5) Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️ (3/5) 🏷️ Tropes Sports romance (Hockey) Hate to love Big secret reveal Coaches daughter ⚠️ Content Warnings / Triggers Mental health awareness (C PTSD mentioned but not really shown on page) Alcohol use Mention and brief description of overdosing (drugs) Infidelity (unknowingly by FMC) Death of family member (briefly described on page) 💭 Non-Spoiler Review This is book 4 in the New York Thunder series and like the other books has a very fast paced almost instalust/instalove vibe to it. Happy is a D-man on the New York Thunder and is known to live up to his name as the general life of the party and very much as a ladies man. Hannah is the coach's daughter (I absolutely love this trope) and was recently burned by a relationship which has left her somewhat jaded towards romance. Both are hiding secrets but as they start to get closer those secrets come out into the light of day and they have to figure out how to deal with them. ❤️ Favorite Things Toast Malone absolutely steals every scene he is in for me. 😬 Least Favorite Things (Optional) Seemed incredibly fast paced but yet not a whole lot seems to happen.
📖 Would I Recommend? Yes Best for readers who love: Fast paced, instalust/instalove, sports romance.
Easy 5 ⭐️ devoured this one! Thank you to Smuthood for the ARC 🩷 This is my first book by this author (ons of the reasons I love ARC reading so much is to find new authors) and I would definitely go back and read the first 3 in the series! I went into this one trope blind so I was genuinely shocked (in a good way) when I learned of the main trope for the story. 📚 Hockey player MMC who falls bad 📚 Sexually confident Coach's daughter 📚 Dog who steals the show 📚 Frenemies with benefits 📚 Found family 📚 Huge secret... no spoilers here! What started as a frenemies with benefits situation with the playboy reputation hockey star and his coaches daughter soon hitches up a notch when she discovers his secret, one that not even his best mate, team mates or coach know about... Spice starts early (i love this for me!) And continues to be delicious throughout the whole book. I love that the FMC gets her closure at the end and I loved reading about the journey our MMC goes through during the book when he realises he has a support network available to him. Shout out to Toast Malone also who stole the show! I loved this book with my whole chest 🫶 My only slight niggle was the MMCs name - i am so sorry but hearing that being shouted in the bedroom was a struggle for me haha I did come round a bit by the end of the book though! 🔥 If you love spicy sports romance then you must read this book!
♾️⭐️ Infinity stars because Goodreads will not let me rate this accurately.
Happy Ever After landed in my inbox about 12 hours ago and has left me emotional, unwell and deeply concerned about how any other book is supposed to follow this. How do I go on?!
The romance was addictive, the chemistry was offensively good, and the spice??? I felt like I needed to avert my eyes while also absolutely not doing that. Happy and Hannah can GET ITTTTTTTT!
This is one of those books where you don’t just enjoy it - you devour it. I laughed, I swooned, I gasped, I had to put the book down just to process (and then immediately picked it back up). And now I’m stuck with a brutal book hangover because I genuinely fear I’ve reached my peak.
I’m so incredibly sad that New York Thunder is over. I have LOVED every one of the four books in the series. The laughs. The found family. The sisterhood. The SPICE 🌶️ I am DEHYDRATED from the constant tears down my thighs. And Toast Malone and his bestie #myheart
If you love spicy romance with heart, heat, and a HEA that earns its name, read this. Just be prepared for ruined standards, a wrecked TBR, and the inability to shut up about it afterward. You have been warned.
Thank you to Shann McPherson and The Smuthood for this ARC! All opinions are honest and my own!
I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of this book and wow. While my love for the Thunder series really started with Robbie’s story, everything truly came together after Shann and I talked through many of the heavier elements in One Night Only. This entire series is a 10/10 for me.
This story is spicy—Shann gives fair warning that it heats up quickly—and honestly, it makes total sense. The connection is real, relatable, and easy to fall into.
Happy is exactly who you hope he is: fun-loving, charming, and deeper than he first appears. We also learn more about his family, including his famous parents and their refreshingly amicable divorce. Shann has such a gift for storytelling that you feel completely pulled into the world she creates.
Yes, there is a happily ever after, but don’t get too comfortable—there’s drama along the way. Some of it is adorable, some of it will make you want to punch someone in the face (looking at you, Chris).
Without giving too much away, this book delivers:
• super spicy moments • an incredibly cute rooftop scene • a lovable college-aged side character • a feisty coach (who also happens to be Hannah’s dad) • and yes… there’s a dog
This book beautifully completes the Thunder series and is an absolute must-read. Read it. Love it. Follow Shann on all her socials—and definitely follow the smuthood.
Once again Shann gave us an incredible installment into the New York Thunder world!! While I'm sad this is the last of this series, I'm also glad to have had Happy and Hannah's story built to where it was before we got to dive into it! I loved how we got to see Hannah in her path and growth through this book! The way she was able to go from the toxic situation she was in and push herself to not only work for the things she wanted, but keep herself open to the good things that came her way, was absolutely beautiful! I loved the way she allowed herself to be what was needed for those around her, while not pushing herself too far or giving too much away! And Happy was just absolute perfection on skates!! I could not get over how misunderstood he was and how he was so willing to be open with his teammates so they could be there to be the support system he needed! I just loved these two together so much, and I absolutely adored every second of reading this one!! And getting so much of all the other Thunder characters of the books past was a blast and a half!! Overall, this is absolutely an all time favorite series and will forever be an auto-recommend!! 5 stars; 3.75 chili peppers
Tropes: - Coach's Daughter - Super Secret Trope - Toxic Ex - Reformed Playboy - Frenemies to Lovers - All the Spice
Happy Ever After absolutely lived up to its name—and then some. This book had me kicking my feet one minute and clutching my chest the next.
Hannah and Happy are the definition of frienemies with benefits, and the tension between them is delicious from the very first page. He’s an NHL player, she’s the coach’s daughter, and every interaction crackles with chemistry, banter, and just enough emotional restraint to make the slow unravel completely addictive.
Happy’s big secret adds such a compelling layer to the story. It’s not just shock value—it genuinely deepens his character and raises the emotional stakes in a way that tugged hard at my heartstrings. Watching Hannah and Happy navigate desire, loyalty, fear, and vulnerability felt raw and real.
And let’s talk about the spice 🌶️—because wow. There are lots of spicy scenes, and they are STEAMY without overshadowing the emotional connection. The balance between heat and heart is chef’s kiss.
This story made me laugh, ache, and swoon all at once. If you love sports romance, forbidden-adjacent dynamics, emotional payoff, and a hero who will absolutely ruin you in the best way, Happy Ever After is a must-read. I devoured it and would happily do it all over again.
⭐️: 5/5 🌶️: 5/5
Thank you to Shann and The Smuthood for an advanced copy! All opinions are honest and my own.
So I read Best Kept Secrets (book 3) as an ARC and I couldn't wait to see what was happening with Happy and Hannah after meeting them in that book! Yes I missed books 1 & 2, I'm circling back around alright?! 😅
Anyways, this is Happy and Hannah's story, and let me tell you, its got it all! Spice from chapter 3, yes I did not stutter, chapter 3 baby 🥵 and it just keeps spicing from there! But it also has really funny moments, moments where I wanted to slap the shxt outta some of them ( a particular vile man but fxck him 🖕🏼) and incredibly heartfelt moments. As a daughter, I understood Hannah's relationship with her parents (mine are divorced as well and lets face it, it gets ugly sometimes). As a mother, I completely understood Happy & Coach Draper's moments where the spoke of trying to protect their children as best as possible but sometimes, sometimes you just can't and god those moments royally suck! This was such an amazing story to read, it was really relatable to me from both main characters sides.
Releasing on the 14th, this is the 4th book in the New York Thunders series so if you wanna read the first three books for better context and character background you've got time! 😅 I'm fairly certain you'll fall in love with them just as I did 🥰. Thank you @shannmcpherson_author and @thesmuthood for the privilage to be part of your ARC team once again!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I will forever love you Shann! Your writing is just so good and easy to follow. I was so excited for this ARC and to read happy’s story !

Brookes is a tool
Who the heck is Allie lol 😂 ok I had to keep reading. Proceed. lol
WHAT 😮 umm plot twist I did NOT see coming and its only 30% in !! The banter back and forth between happy and Hannah is reminding me SO much for Fran and Robbie !!! I love it !!!
Lucky !!! 🍀 the cutest name for real
Hahaha the FaceTime call !!!!! I’ve passed away 🤣😭🤣😭
I take back what I said about brookes. Poor boy is broken.
Lucky is such a sweet girl. Hannah is even better. Happy is defo swooning !!!
YES happy ! Go get your girl. Thank the lord he showed up 🤣 Peter is also a tool but I loved the scenes !! Good on Hannah for speaking out !
I love Fran. lol 😂
What a wonderful book ! Shann, every since the first book of yours I’ve loved the writing, the story telling. All of it! Every part of this book was amazing ! I will be visiting this world and re reading it often !
Happy Slater will wreck your standards. Happy Ever After is the perfect love story between the playboy hockey player, Happy Slater, and the coach´s feisty daughter, Hannah Draper. Happy play his part with his friends as the goofball playboy, but there is so much more to him than what meets the eye. He is attentive, dedicated, a family man with a filthy mouth and a lot of love to give. Hannach is, on the surface, the fearless professional woman who knows exactly what to do, but inside is a softie with a bruised heart and walls up to guard what´s left. While, at first sight, they look like complete opposites, Happy proves to Hannah over and over, how perfect he is and how perfect they can be together. Both Hannah and Happy hide secrets from everyone, afraid of public scrutiny and judgement of others, but opening up to each other about their fears is the ultimate decision that brings them closer and makes them fall even deeper. Shann McPherson gives us the perfect read: a romance with banter, spice, heart that will make you laugh, blush, swoon and cry. I certainly did! The perfect ending to a perfect series that I feel sad knowing it´s over. Thank you for the ARC.
5⭐️s. This one and One Night Only are my favorites. Happy or Dallas?? Read all 4 books nothing under a 4.75⭐️
Just know there is a big old c@Ck block named 🐕 Toasty Malone. He strikes multiply times and poor Happy but he never complain.
Also we HATE Chris!!!! You will find out why when you read the book.
Tropes: 💚 Super secret trope 🍀🦆 🏒 Hockey romance 💚 Coach’s daughter 🏒 Reformed playboy 💚 Frenemies to lovers 🏒 A different side to Happy 💚 Mental health rep 🏒 Undeniable chemistry
Need more convincing with some spicy tropes: 😉 "Good boy" 🥵 Hate smex 🔥 Light breeding kink 🫣 Backdoor play 😍 Spicy facetime 🥳 Toys as teammates 💦 The shower scene
Happy and Hannah were great for each other. There is no complaints. I just need everyone to read this book. There is something that Shann does throughout her books and that is write hard stuff. She does not gloss over it but makes it okay to not be okay while going through things.
I freaking loved Happy Slater. He has a totally different side to him that you never see until you read this book. There is a lot I can say but with the secret trope I don’t want to ruin it. Trust me when I say this book is amazing. I will need a book about the characters in this series set 5yrs from now. I need to know where they are. I am not ready to say goodbye to them yet.
Thank you Shann McPherson and The Smuthood for the early copy. Above are my honest thoughts.
Oh the final book 😭 this series has been so fun and enthralling I didn’t want it to end. Maybe we can hope for a coach’s book or a Shaw ranch series one day 🤭
Happy and Hannah were intoxicating, their chemistry and banter was hilarious, but their sweet vulnerable moments really shone through.
That secret trope!! Are you kidding me?! I was placing guesses with my besties as to what it was going to be and I was so very wrong, but it just made the story. My heart exploded
I loved the found family, the epic friendship group and the spice was just a culmination of a book you don’t want to put down.
💚Frenemies with Benefits 💚Coach’s Daughter 💚Reformed Playboy 💚Secret Trope
5⭐️3.5🌶️
Bonus points for coach, he was just dad goals, I have enjoyed the snippets from him in every book but the way he was in this story just made me like him more, his banter with the players was hilarious and the way he loved Hannah 🥹
Thankyou to Shann and the smuthood for this arc opportunity 🫶🏻
Arc Review First off I would like to thank The Smuthood PR & Shann for the opportunity to read and review this book.
Hannah & Happy OMFG! Y'all this book is EVERYTHING! Its my absolute favorite book by Shann and I can't believe that twist she put in here, I absolutely didn't see it coming. I adore Hannah so much, she's a strong beautiful woman inside and out and the way she hides herself behind this tough exterior but is a softie underneath for the right people. HAPPY MY MF MAN! He is the best freaking man there is and that's all I'm gonna say about him. He's the greenest of green flags out there. I love that he has this Playboy persona while it may be true he slowly changed his ways for the better. I love they banter and chemistry between them and how they both become this safe space for the other when needed.
5/5 Recommend this book. Y'all out of all of Shann's book I highly recommend this one the most. I absolutely love this book so much and no amount of words will do this one justice, so go read her but also read the trigger warning at the beginning!
I am SO in love with this book! I devoured this book and only put it down to sleep and go to work. I was laughing and crying throughout the whole book. The spice started off STRONG and stayed that way 🥵 the “good boy”, 💦, and absolute filthy talk was perfection Happy is for sure added to my list of book boyfriends 😍 The story of how he got his name was actually so cute 🥰 I related to Hannah in the sense that she’s a daddy’s girl through and through. My relationship with my mom wasn’t as difficult as hers, but my dad has always been my #1 ♥️
The secret trope isn’t my favorite, but this was so well done. I loved every part of it. The support of Happy’s team and coach for what he thought would be a bigger deal than it was, was touching. There is so much I want to say but the secret trope is such a big part of the story that I can’t say much else 😅 just do yourself a favor and read this book! I love this one so much, I’m for sure going to read the first 3 books in the series 🤩
Oh and the playlist?! Please! Best book playlist I’ve seen 👌🏻 so many bangers!
Holy Crap ! My jaw has been on the ground from the very moment I started this book. SHANN MCPHERSON!!!!! You just unleashed a whole other level of spice. She warned us this was the spiciest book she wrote, but damnnnn. I devoured this! And THE SECRET TROPE-sooo good and I didn’t even see it coming. The secret trope alone should intrigue everyone to run for this book on release day because it makes this story even better than it already was.
Hannah Draper is a sassy little thing who puts on this hard exterior that doesn’t really match up with how sweet and caring she really is. She’s been hurt recently by a married man, Chris, who claimed he was separated from his wife. Oh, and he’s also the general manager of the New York Thunder hockey team. Hannah’s father is also the team’s head coach. And thennnnn enters Happy Slater, a reformed playboy, a player on her dad’s hockey team, and now Hannah’s current hook up buddy. So you know this gets veryyyyy interesting. I already know this will be one of my favorites of 2026.
I’m not going to lie, I did not have high expectations for this book but I love a good coach’s daughter trope so I had to read it. And let me tell you, I was pleasantly surprised at how much I loved it! Shann McPherson has a new fan!
The spice hits early (chapter 3!) and does not let up. Happy Ever After is very spicy but it’s the emotional connection that really surprised me. Hannah is a strong, independent FMC, and Happy is cocky and confident but not in an overbearing way but more endearing. The way they we see them fit together like puzzle pieces throughout the book is perfection!
The secret trope was completely unexpected, and going in blind makes it so much better. There’s so much more I want to say about it, but anything more would give it away, it was absolutely chef’s kiss! Even though their relationship moves fast physically, the emotional progression feels natural and earned. I flew through this in one day, felt all the emotions, and it fully pulled me out of a reading slump. A fun, steamy, and heartfelt way to end the series.
