Roger Riccard, one of the most respected Sherlock Holmes authors, has again taken pen in hand to bring forth a third set of five adventures in a new series of short stories.
"The Kaiser Role": Picking up where "The Case of the Gunsmith of Sherwood" left off, Mycroft Holmes insists that his brother stop the Heligoland rebel, Lady Lydia Wyt, in her plot against Kaiser Wilhelm II.
"The Trinity Leprechaun": A mythical creature invades the campus of Trinity College. Holmes is engaged to find out why, and what is the purpose of the "gifts" left behind?
"The Monique Mystery": Just what was the case that brought Mary Morstan’s employer to Sherlock Holmes so many years before The Sign of Four?
"The Notable Musician": Famous American bandleader John Phillip Sousa has an urgent case for the great detective to solve before he gives a command performance.
"The Origami Mystery": Why is someone after a collection of Japanese paper sculptures?
Sit back and enjoy this third volume of A Sherlock Holmes Alphabet of Cases.
Another five will written British 🏰 mystery family and friends relationships adventure thriller novel by Roger Riccard Vol three of five. Five interesting Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson investigation adventures each with interesting well developed characters lots of action and misdirection leading to the unexpected conclusions. I would recommend this series and author to 👍 readers of Sherlock Holmes stories and mystery novels 👍🔰. Enjoy the adventure of reading 👓 or listening 🎶 to Alexa read books 📚. 2023 😀😯👒👑
A solid set of short stories, with Sherlock stepping it up a bit and showing more of his prowess as an investigator. It is interesting seeing how Roger Riccard jumps around through the canon in time to fit in stories, referring to previous ones. The skill and experience of Holmes varies, for example, as does Watson's understanding and ability. In early stories, Watson is still baffled and amazed. In mid stories he's a bit more comfortable with how Holmes works and what he is able to do, and in the late stories he's a pretty capable thinker himself.
Overall I am enjoying this series and can see why Riccard is regarded as a quality Holmes writer.
This series of stories is a continuation of the series. It is, I think, the more enjoyable of those I have read. The stories are fun, have sufficient plot twists to keep one's attention, but didn't stretch Holmes out of his 'normal' presentation. I appreciate the relatively clean lines of the story which have sufficient, though limited, development of the central characters. Minor characters are not developed at all but they generally don't need to be.
I have to admit - I am a Sherlock "wonk". I am, by far, not an expert (or, even, an educated amateur) but like a Pavlovian trained dog I salivate at the word "Holmes". Having said that I am in no way objective to judge this book. I enjoyed it. However the Kindle version has a myriad of technical "quirks" that require a degree of concentration. Additionally, some of the stories may be found somewhere else (but I never believe a Holmes story deserve only one read)
This collection of Holmes and Watson stories are not the author’s best. Two of the tales are passable, the others rather mundane. Missing are the brilliant insights of Holmes and the fine tuning of Watson’s voice. Although I will read more books by this author, there are better collections available.
Another set of five separate stories ranging in different marks if Sherlock Holmes' career. Much better edited than the last book. Roger Riccard does a superb job maintaining the authenticity of the characters and not dragging out the drama. I hope this series won't be his last.
Doesn't recreate Holmes or Watson. mystery not engaging. Not impressed. There are plenty of better writers who can present a good mystery and plenty of others who can capture Holmes and Watson far better.
The rating should be 3,5- The first short story was novella length and continued form the pervious volume.. The story was Okay but because I expected a short and sweet episode of SH's mystery-solving talent- I did not enjoy this one much even though I liked the characters. In generla the stories were different and entertaining.
I enjoyed the short stories. Holmes always seems to have a convenient knowledge of a wide variety of things, and that can be a bit unbelievable. However, the stories were still intriguing.
Many authors have tried to duplicate the writings of Arthur Conan Doyle's stories about Sherlock Holmes. This book of short mysteries did not reach ACD's level, but the stories were interesting.
1. The Kaiser Role - 1895 Continues ON from The Gunsmith of Sherwood. 2. The Trinity Leprechaun - 1894 a Leprechaun has been leaving shoes at Trinity College. 3. The Monique Mystery - 1881 Mrs Cecil Forester's solicitors husband has gone missing. 4. The Notable Musician - 1901 sausage approaches Holmes as his sousaphones have gone missing 5. The Origami Mystery - 1881 An ex-sailor is interested in a friends origami collection. Entertaining short stories
