Virginia Haviland was for many years the Director of the Children's Literature Center at the Library of Congress and was also author of more than two dozen books. She was graduated from Cornell University, and for her dedication to children's literature, she was awarded the Regina Medal in 1976.

I thought it was interesting that certain tales can be found all over the world with just the animals changed out.

Shape-shifting, flesh-eating vampire demons. 'Nough said.

One more... Tale of the 20 foot parrot, old woman, king, elephant (etc) eating CAT!!!!

Well, also, what's with all the donkey beaters?

Olivia really enjoyed this book. Her two favorite genres are poetry and fairy tales. It seems slightly below her reading level. It is multicultural.
