We never go after what we want without circling around it at least a hundred times. Instead, we play games, try to work just the right angle, even when it's not necessary.

You've heard Raya's version, and now it's Kade's turn.

He had everything mapped out. His life was a series of strategy and games, all of which he was mastering. And then Raya Capperton invaded his life at a moment when he refused to be distracted. The animosity between them boiled over at first, but the second Kade started falling, he fell hard. But Kade has never been accused of doing things the easy way.

if you thought Kade was an idiot in "Hooked On The Game", then you'll think he's a complete imbecile in "Kade's Game".

in this book, almost all the events in "Hooked On The Game" were retold to the reader from Kade's perspective, and we heard his inner thoughts and reasoning for certain decisions. so in the beginning, I was slightly excited to have some things explained that weren't elaborated on in the preceding novel. but I was mainly cautious towards this book because of Kade's character in general. turns out, I was right for being cautious because holy shit this book made me dislike Kade more than I initially did.

in the preceding novel, Kade comes off as a misunderstood idiot that sometimes gets angry at misunderstandings. but in this novel, Kade seems like an idiot that gets upset at the results his experiment provided.

see, in this novel, it became blindingly clear to me that Kade really is a rich boy who likes business, thinks things are too easy for him, and needs a challenge. and to Kade, having a romantic relationship with Raya is a challenge. so when things don't work out for him in the relationship, he gets angry and distraught because oh no, Kade didn't anticipate that Raya would react like a human with emotions. poor Kade couldn't have possibly anticipated that Raya would react like that.

a great example of this is the same situation I talked about in my review of "Hooked On The Game", the novel that precedes this one. when we learn from Kade's perspective that Raya's father was a con man, and that Raya was trying to con Kade, he acts like this is one of the most heartbreaking things told to him. and of course, the person who accuses Raya of being a con man is none other than Courtney, Kade's crazy and rich ex-girlfriend. istg, she really needs to be a private investigator or something because she dug up hella information about Raya just to break Kade's heart. these rich people got way too much time on their hands, and Courtney is the epitome of that.

anyway, Kade gets all upset when Raya doesn't deny the accusations made against her, and acts like her reaction isn't at all appropriate to how she should be acting if she was innocent. but if we're being honest, I'd react the same way she did. to paraphrase, Raya simply said to Kade with sarcasm that yes, she went through all this with her family just to collect a quick check from him. she said with even more sarcasm that of course, all the emotions she displayed for him in front of his family was all a ruse to get his grandfather's expensive wine.

and when Kade hears this, instead of seeing how she was obviously hurt because he wrongly judged her--just like everyone else in her life has done because she's poor, he gets so blinded by his anger, and his sorrow that he can't even imagine how Raya feels. and to make matters worse, the "plot twist" that Thomas, Kade's grandfather, married a gold digger, and that she will own his renowned wine vineyard comes into play. of course she doesn't actually own the vineyard at the end because uh oh, her plans got busted. anyway, Kade ends up being a mess because of all this unnecessary angst, but I'd like to think about how it even started.

as I said before, Kade was a rich and bored business boy looking for a challenge, and Raya became that challenge for him. so when he started playing games by being seductive and kissing her twice, they both developed feelings for each other. but the problem was that they weren't sure about the other person's feelings for one another. now the culprit for this issue could be miscommunication, but my problem is that Kade insinuated the miscommunication. he did this by sending mixed signals towards Raya, and in a sense, toyed with her emotions.

the more I think about it, the more I realize that Raya was like an experiment to him. I don't mean this in a predator or evil-mastermind type of way. what I mean is that Raya was a challenge he didn't know how to overcome, so he intentionally made things more complicated for the both of them. I hope that makes sense. when I think about their relationship in that sense, the puzzle pieces come together to form a clear, but still slightly blurry picture.

Kade expected Raya to be this play putty he could mold and have his way with whenever he wanted. yeah the play putty expressed some human characteristics like having a snarky attitude, or being apologetic, but she was still play putty in his eyes. so when she did things he couldn't anticipate, like feel timid towards his family or defend herself, he'd either reply with irritation or anger. and one thing that really caught him off guard was when someone else tried to flirt with her, because Kade saw her as his play putty and no one else's. he'd get furious and act in an irrational manner that would prompt Raya to defend herself, cry, or leave the whole situation.

I may be fabricating an idea of what their dynamic is like, but that's the conclusion I came to. I know this review was kind of different from my other reviews because I usually don't make a whole review about a thesis unsupported by strong evidence. at the end of the day, all I came up with was a theory that may or may not be true. we'll never know if my speculation was correct or not, but I appreciate how the last two books in this series were though provoking. I guess I've never written a fully-fleshed thesis for a NA romance book because most don't have characters that prompt me to create one. anyway, if you read this whole review/thesis, then let me know if you agree or disagree with my speculation. I'd truly appreciate your feedback :)

I can't even remember how far I got into this one, because Raya was almost non-existent. I felt like her presence was mere props. I really liked her version of the story, and thought that getting Kade's POV would enrich what I had already read, but it felt like something got lost instead.

As a hero, I didn't particularly loved him the first time around cause I'm not into jerks, even if fictional. I thought this book would make me change my mind about him, and it partly did, but I just couldn't bring myself to get further into the narration because it lost my interest and there was nothing really added to the story.

I think in "Hooked on the Game" Raya's POV was interesting because she's the underdog, the con artist's daughter. Kade instead was... not so surprising or interesting after all.

Love me some Kade

Love me some Kade

I loved reading this from his point of view maybe more than from Rayas. I saw his feelings develop more quickly than I had imagined. I love his jealousy and the way he cares for Rays. this is one of the best series out right now..

5 KADE STARS

This is Kade's version of events of the book HOOKED ON THE GAME. I think it can be a bit risky when an author writes the same story from the hero's viewpoint. It really paid off in this book. I think I liked this one even more. Kade Colton is a lovely hero and I loved being inside his head. I am really enjoying this series.

I usually dislike retellings of stories. I just skim through it when it gets so blatantly repetitive. But I really loved Kade from the first book so I had to eventually read his POV of Hooked in the Game. I don't know if it's because it's been a while since I read the first book, or if Kade and Raya had such different personalities, but I really enjoyed reading Kade's version of exactly the same story. Which it was, honestly. It starts at the same day and ends pretty much the same day. Except the two different epilogues, which was a nice insight. But still, for some reason I felt like it was different. Again, I think it's mainly because Kade has totally different thoughts from when I read Raya's POV. And he approached situations in a different manner than Raya did. My advice would be to read the first one, then maybe wait a while to read the this so it doesn't feel redundant for reading the same story. And as a warning, there were a lot of characters towards the end and comments made of those characters that indicated there will be future stories about them. It was both confusing and intriguing. But still I'm excited for how all the rich people drama will play out. (:

Dnf 44%

Blushing, quite, mimic and very weak heroine isn't my thing. I couldn't stand her and I'm glad I didn't read the first book that was her pov because I definitely would have given it Dnf much sooner than this one.

The hero was arrogant all right but with a stronger woman beside him it could be much better for him and for this story.

I'm gonna try another book from this series because, honestly, I gave all this author's latest works five stars, she wrote very strong independent and hilarious heroines in them and now I want to try her early ones. But I'm not very optimistic after this weak one.

Basically the same book as the first but his point of view I love getting his POV to see when he decided to go for it. And the different scenes - like going shooting with Josh!

Skim read this book as I've read the first one, again nice rainy day filler book.
Not sure I would rush to read others in the series unless I run dry on reads.

I loved Kade's POV, I'm always a little concerned when female authors write a second book from male POV that i adored from the heroines perspective, most time's the Author manages to emasculate him, not in C.M Owens case i think i just fell in love with him a bit more.

The book had me laughing out lout especially when Kade was sat waiting for Raya while she tried on clothes and his reactions to ladies adverts as he was flicking through the mandatory waiting area magazines.

also loved

"And why does the house smell of fish all the time? What's that girl doing?"

But it goes without saying just how much i loved this read, i always look forward to Owens books as i haven't been disappointed yet, she's my go to Author when i want to get immersed for a few days in a good box set.

Did I basically just read the same book but from a different POV? Yes. Did I skip over anything or regret it? Definitely not.

Shit, I liked this even more than the first book. I loved to see Kade's look on all of the situations, just to see what was going on in his head. I prefer this book, since it now wasn't really that obvious that Raya was talking a lot about herself being poor. I nearly cried of laughter at the beginning, to see that
That was honestly the funniest thing ever in my opinion.

It was really nice to see the way he reacts to everything. When reading from Raya's POV, it was sometimes obvious that he was agressive/protectice about something, while she didn't notice. I LOVED to read the truth behind certain situations, like And he was so obviously in love with her! Seriously, from the moment he was jealous when he thought she invited a guy to his party, I couldn't help but giggle.

Lyle and Raya are here. Together. I'm going to jail.
(...)
He looks. The perverted son of a bitch looks. Fuck jail - I'm going to prison.

And finally!! Explanation of both the Billy situation and the "Where's Star?" situation. I did NOT expect the Star situation, but it made me laugh so bad. You can claim me as your territory anytime.

I fell in love with his friendship with Tag even more, Tag trying to provoke him into showing how he feels, the scene when Tag found them in bed, everything. I love this guy. I'm not sure whether I'll read his book though, since I don't think I'll like Ash; from Billy explaining her she kind of sounds like a whiny girl, but maybe it's not that bad. Idk.

It also cracked me up that he complains about zippers because of his erection like every chapter. I love it. And the shooting with Josh scene! How funny was that!!

And the con scene! I laughed SO hard when his father chased him and Tag & Wren tackled him to the ground to hold him down! Still can't get over that. And the last scene was way too cute (and new yay). I just loved to read everything from his perspective, which is probably clear from me gushing over this. Sorry for this mess of a review lol.

I liked this one as much, if not a tad bit more, than Hooked on the Game just because this one provided insight on Kade's perspective. It was a good read but I agree with some other reader's when they said it could have been incorporated with the first book as alternating viewpoints. I found myself skimming a lot of it as I had just finished the first one and this was all the same scenes only from Kade's viewpoint. Overall it was good but not great.

This is what the first book was missing. I think if the author would have spliced together these two books it would have had a much richer story. I guess technically that’s exactly what she does further into this series.

This was a complete retelling of Hooked on the Game but from Kade’s POV. I really liked that I got to see the beginning from his side. And there were other things like when he went shooting with Raya’s brother-I’m so glad that was all written out and not skipped over. I was dying to know what happened when Josh took Kade shooting, and a cool surprise that Josh took him shooting with some of his Marine buddies. (Speaking of which, I think I mentioned in my review of book 1 that one of my favorite characters was her brother. He was in this book even more and again, I loved him. Although, I think most Marines would be appalled at their lack of gun safety. And just the simple fact that one gets shot in the butt with bird shot...I don’t know, they sound more like the Army to me. Then again, as I think about it more, she may have written them perfectly depending on their age and rank, which was never revealed.)

My favorite things about retellings or duets of the same book, are the extras. All the scenes we didn’t know about or did know about but couldn’t experience because the character’s POV we were reading from wasn’t there. Nobody wants to just read the same conversations over again, which is something that has to happen in this type of book. But the extra is what makes it worth it.

This wasn’t overly heavy on the extra. I think there could have been more scenes between Kade and Raya. There were plenty of scenes that weren’t written in the first book, just skipped over, and I think this could have been the opportunity to build a little more on their relationship. I also definitely wished there would have been more scenes involving Raya’s conning skills. Her card playing and her mastery at the pool tables. It’s something she stays away from because she doesn’t want to be associated with that life, but it’s also something that makes her different. I think it would have been cute to see her wow Kade with her ability to cheat at cards. She’s so good her own father the professional conman can’t catch her. I just think there could have been a happy medium.

But like I said, I liked reading from Kade’s POV. The story seems fuller now and I think I might need to start drawing a family tree right now. There are so many stories and names mentioned in this book that I know because of books I’ve already read. I know I’m going to need to look at a family tree... or several actually, since this series involves more than one big family.

Yes, this is the same story as in the first book ‘Hooked on the game’ but this time from Kade’s POV. So I hear you think ‘why would you read the same story twice?’. Well I can tell you that after finishing ‘Hooked on the game’ I couldn’t WAIT to read this story! Simple because I had a feeling that there was so much more to the story. I really wanted to read and know what Kade feelings and thoughts were. And I liked this story as much as the other one.

Strange that seeing things through someone else eyes gives you a different sort of story. That although the same things happen, you get a whole different insight and feel of it. I liked that very much. I like discovering what happened that day when Kade was away with Raya’s stepbrother or what happened when they were apart. Or how his feelings for her grew.

I’m really happy that the writer C.M. Owens decided to give us Kade’s POV too. It was a pleasure to read both Raya and Kade’s story of how they met and fell in love.

3.5* for this one
It rarely happens for me to like a book from the h's perspective more than the H. But it was the case with this one.
I really hoped that he had something more to bring to the table, but I was wrong. He was stupid, an idiot who didn't trust her at bone level, when it mattered. That bugged me the hell out.
I get what the author wanted to say about games and shit, but this didn't do it for me.
Of course it was an ok read, a nice tale to see his POV but other than that it didn't bring anything new and it lowered my opinion of him.

I really didn't need Kades side of a story I already read. This did not add anything new.

And it almost always fails when a female author tries to write from a male pov. This was no exception.

Read Hooked on the Game - It's good! But skip this one.

This is book to you on the Sterling shores series or technically it's 1.5 and this is hooked on the game from Kades point of view. So I will give a mini review on it.

I really like being able to get into Kades head it was really hard to see half the time what was going on through his head because he wasn't very emotional in the first book. I really enjoyed seeing how much you truly cared about her from the start it wasn't something that grew, he cared way before the start of the book. Same plot and everything but reading this adds another dynamic to the story. I loved it.

I'm not the type that can stand reading the same book from another POV but the way this author does it, it blew me away! I was able to connect with the hero and at the same time feel that I was reading it for the first time all over again.
Overall if you enjoy book 1 get this one too! Being in Cades had was amazing and you won't be sad that you did. 4 stars #2OCCJD

While I enjoyed Raya's version of the story better, it was entertaining reading Kade's version. Having said that though, Kade comes off like a typical teenage boy with his non-stop sexual fantasies and his constant hard-on. If Kade was a teenage boy this would be a typical story but the fact that he was a 21yr old man made this aspect of the story ridiculous.

There is also a book in the series on another character, Tag, that I may even read at some point. He seemed like an interesting character.

I'm always curious about hero's POV, when books is based on the h. So, I was really glad when I found out about this one. I almost dropped Hooked on the Game to read Kade's. But that books was to good to quit.

It was really great to see some parts from Kade's point. It answered some questions and made me laugh. It was quirky and funny. I enjoyed this book as much as the first one. I'm looking forward to the next one in the series.

Kade’s game was from his point of view and I like that now I can understand his actions better. But, somehow it was annoying that I had to read the same thing over again. The same dialogue and the same scenes. Overall I liked it because I needed to understand Kade better and the book served its purpose. Only ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ stars because of the repetition.

Loved this story. I read Hooked On The Game first, but preferred Kade's version. He was hilarious. Really didn't know how to deal with women. Stubborn and passionate. Three times I've read it over the years and it's funny every time. Highly recommend.

I read the first book a year ago so I was kind of lost when I was reading this book so I would recommend you read this right after reading the first. I understood all of this story but I felt like in Kade's book Raya's charecter (main charecter from book 1) was made to be more emotionally weaker, she would so easily become upset and she was just to naive especially compared to her in the first book. The fact that by the end of the book she is shown to be much more independent and strong seems unrealistic compared to how she was at the beginning of the book. I just don't think a charecter can change that much so suddenly in a book, you have to build up a strong sense of independence, you can't just suddenly con a person by going undercover and having to have a gun pointed at your head when before you would cry if some idiot decided to bully you or just accidently knock your bag on the floor. But other then this I liked this book, wouldn't say I loved it but it was okay but for some reason I felt as though it lacked emotion but the fact that everything in this book is from the male characters pov and is about everything (no detail is missed other then most of the sex scene) is from the first book, no random shit is added on, as alot of books such as this one, where the second book in the series is from the male charecters POV of everything that happened in the first book.
