disappointing

It really didn’t feel like much happened in this book. While the MC did reach a few milestones, the author presented his progress in such a way as to make it feel meaningless. 4 books in and no problems have been resolved. I’m general, the author has gone overboard with the number major threats the MC faces. It just seems like overkill. Finally the whole detour with the infernal script seemed like a complete waste of time.

Nameless Sovereign 4: A Cultivation Progression Fantasy
by Nameless Author

Overall Assessment: Nameless Sovereign 4 stands out for its intricate cultivation mechanics and meaningful character dynamics in a crowded genre. The story succeeds in combining satisfying progression with genuine stakes, balancing action, mentorship, and the politics of sect life.

Strengths: The novel delivers consistently strong pacing; every achievement or battle feels hard-won rather than manufactured. Red’s journey through breakthroughs, challenges, and relationships benefits from tight plotting—plot threads are mostly maintained, and character growth is evident both for the protagonist and significant companions. Side stories involving allies and rivals contribute depth and show the world as larger than the protagonist.

Weaknesses: The series occasionally slips into genre routine—inevitable tournament arcs, sudden power jumps, and familiar sect intrigue tropes. A few secondary plotlines are left unresolved or resurface only when convenient. While narration is mostly engaging, sporadic overexplanation and repeated phrases (for example, “suffice it to say”) can break immersion for attentive readers.

Comparative Genre Note: Fans of Cradle or A Thousand Li will appreciate the commitment to cultivation detail and side character arcs, though they may wish for more risk or surprise in the late-book twists. Still, Nameless Sovereign 4 offers a reliable and rewarding read for progression fantasy enthusiasts.

Enjoyable, but with a nitpick

An over reliance on the phrase "suffice it to say" was distracting and consistently pulled me out of the narrative, especially through the late middle of the book where even transitions into an opinion formed by the characters had it to justify the logic and distance itself from the character who would be thinking. If the author can trust the reader to follow their logic and not rely on this phrase to back up their writing then the next book will be even better, if not I probably won't finish it.

Spoilers

Another great edition to the series. I am surprised Red has not taken a leave of absence to find his first masters inheritance. There was a considerable time-skip. I believe in volume 1 he mentioned Red needed to find a forest and meet with a tribal chief to gain access to the inheritance.

I would like the plot point with the supposedly cursed dagger to come up again. Maybe Viren is effected by the residual obsession and searches for the sentient dagger. Red then tries to stop him and as a consequence, gains the dagger for himself.

In terms of progression. He unlocks all his meridians, learns a necromantic spell, unlocks the ability to see and converse with ghosts, gains a mutated snake familiar, increases his mastery over basic runes and discovers the existence of infernal runes. He also physically matures and grows strong enough to contend with adults without needing the use of chi.

As for future progression

Obtain Gus's Inheritance
Obtain the sentient dagger
Learn Necromancy
Cultivate and improve his innate talent using a formation
Learn a method to counter demonification and master infernal runes

I want to know for certain if he has truly unlocked every possible meridian in the body. When the protagonist was going through the inheritance trial. He unlocked a hidden meridian that gave him dark vision. Do other hidden meridians exist? He flooded his body with chi but the prerequisite for unlocking hidden meridians may be the consumption of rare materials.

I got quite tired of Red, who seems to take one step back for every step forward. By the fourth book you’d expect him to make some progress in at least one of the mysteries from book one, but no. Best of luck in your future endeavours, Red.

Just gets better

This series is smooth and I like it. I'm not a fan of long reviews and had to write this to meet the minimum.
