Rebecca Underwood likes her life the way it is. Quiet. Plain. Predictable. For years she worked her tail off in medical school and finally achieved her ultimate goal of working in a private practice. She sees nothing but smooth sailing ahead of her. That is, until she finds herself having to deal with the one man who has the ability to send her quiet and plain world into a tail-spin.
Master mechanic R.J. Devlin specializes in restoring classic cars. He’s poured blood, sweat and tears into building his own auto shop from the ground up. For him, there’s nothing more satisfying than getting a healthy amount of grease under his nails…except a green-eyed red-head who could bring him to his knees faster than he can say Corvette. So when Rebecca Underwood brings her father’s classic car to him for restoration, he jumps at the opportunity—for more reasons than one. Rebecca has always loathed surrendering any kind of control, but she knows R.J. is the best at what he does.
But then everything she’s worked so hard for, her practice and her reputation as a pediatrician is shaken. And as her carefully controlled world spirals out of control, the threat of losing her medical license, and even her practice, pushes her to unfamiliar territory and a place where she has no control— the arms of R.J. Devlin.
I started writing back in 2004 and six years later self-published the third book I wrote. Two years after that I landed a contract with Grand Central Publishing.
Now I'm just chugging along, spitting out books faster than my kids can turn my living room into a disaster zone...
Actually, that's not entirely true. I only wish it were true.
But in all seriousness, I write sassy and sexy contemporary romances for Forever Romance. My Trouble series is available online and wherever paperbacks are sold.
Nothing by Trouble is the fourth book in Erin Kern's Trouble series, but can easily be read as a standalone. This book ended up being different than what I had originally thought it was going to be, but I still enjoyed the story. This was my first book by Erin Kern, but I liked the characters and writing style. I thought that this one had some slow moments though, and there were a few other things that I had mixed feelings about which kept me from loving this one.
Rebecca Underwood has a successful career as a doctor working for her mentor at his practice. Her life is good and she likes things the way they are. With her father's retirement coming up, her mother and her decide to have his classic car restored as their gift to him. Unfortunately for Rebecca, that means going to the one person that she would rather not have to interact with. Years ago R.J. Devlin took her virginity and left her behind. Rebecca had had a crush on him forever, and knew that things would end in heartbreak for her but couldn't stop herself from trying with him. R.J. doesn't do commitment though and has had one woman after another for years. With R.J. and Rebecca interacting more than ever, they both realize that the attraction is still there between them. Rebecca has always been R.J.'s weakness and has had a way of getting under his skin like no other woman. He knew that she deserved more though and did the only thing he could, push her away. But as Rebecca's carefully ordered life starts to fall apart and her career is threatened, R.J. can't help but want to do anything he can for her. Can Rebecca convince R.J. that they are worth taking a chance on?
I will admit that I had some issues with R.J. I thought that he should have known better at his age that Rebecca could make decisions about her life. He knew that he had feelings for her but because he felt that she deserved better, he not only pushed her away but also was at times a real jerk to her. He messed with her head and went out of his way to play games with her, and I thought that it made his character hard to like at times. He also tended to lash out at her and would think the worst when he had known her for years. I wanted him to wake up quicker, but I am glad that he was able to start to see that they were great together and deserved a real shot. Rebecca was strong and successful, and I liked that she was so passionate about her job. She was kind and caring, and she was so dedicated to helping others. Even after everything that she had been through, she found a way to forgive and look out for the well being of those that didn't deserve it. I thought that she was a bit weak when it came to R.J. though. I thought that she kept making excuses for him and forgave him far easily and more often than I would have. I did think that they had chemistry and they had a lot of history together, but it was hard for me to really get behind their relationship considering how long it took things for them to really start to turn around.
My biggest issue with this story was that by the time that the main characters finally got around to being on solid ground the book was just over. I felt like we had been waiting for that moment for so long, and that we as readers didn't really get any chance to enjoy it before the ending. I wanted to see a bit more of them together and really on solid ground considering that they had been apart for the whole book pretty much. This one also started off slowly to me and took awhile to get into. While I did like it, I thought that there were several moments that the story would drag. I found myself losing interest and wanting to put it down. I do think that it was good, but it wasn't one that I would go back and read over and over. I think if you are looking for a contemporary romance with a bit of suspense, you might give this one a shot.
New to this writer and her style it didn’t take me long to get to grips with the fact that although this book is part of a series, it could genuinely be read as a standalone novel. Sometimes with books that are part of a series you can feel as if you are missing something – points where perhaps characters have previously interacted or have history – but this was not the case, the characters development was completely rounded and I found that I had no difficulty picking up their story and being absorbed by it. The story centres on RJ Devlin the garage owner and sexy arsed mechanic and local girl made good –paediatrician Rebecca Underwood. This pair has history and seem to dance around their feelings for each other more than you would think humanly possible – sometimes there is a need for straight talking- it was a shame that neither of them got that particular memo! RJ rebuilds classic cars and when Rebecca and her mother decide to have her father’s classic car restored as a retirement gift for him, there was never any question of who would be doing the work. All those years of keeping their distance from each other are laid to waste. Rebecca has lived for years with the idea that after their one night, she was nothing more than a conquest to RJ, while he on the other hand believed that he was doing the noble thing by keeping his distance, he couldn’t be the man she deserved, he wanted better than him for her. If only they had let their hearts in on their decisions because they have both harboured feelings for years – ones that now have to be addressed. The story wasn’t all about their relationship, I enjoyed the fact that there was a simultaneous plot that accompanied Rebecca, the comings and goings at the medical practice where she worked was a clever twist, one that give her credence and allowed her to flex some independence – often with a romantic novel – the female lead ends up somewhat aerated but not Rebecca, she worked out what was going on and actually tried to do something about it. Despite what it could have cost her. RJ and Rebecca were a clever pairing, they had a history that while not complicated it held them back, they restricted themselves but deep down the both knew how they felt – it was saying it that was the problem – sometimes it is better to stick with what you have rather than risk losing it all. This was a second chance at what for both of them was effectively their first love. Rebecca had never let him go emotionally and RJ had never felt anything for anyone- ever, expect Rebecca. It is funny to think that three little words like “I love You” can take a lifetime to not only say but accept. Rating 4 out of 5
I've never been to Trouble, Wyoming before. Sounds likes my kind of town though - one filled with deliciously hot men, that are trying (and failing) to fight their feelings. For my first trip, I visited mechanic, R.J. Devlin and he was quite the host....
Rebecca Underwood worked hard to get to where she is - a well-respected pediatrician in the town of Trouble. She loves what she does and she's happy with her life. Until she makes a discovery that could put her career at risk and sends her into the arms of a man she's spent nine years trying to forget. R.J. Devlin.
R.J. is great at his job - restoring classic cars. When Rebecca brings her father's car to him for work, he can't wait to get his hands on it...even as he tries to keep his hands off the curvy doctor that haunts him. But there's something about Rebecca that makes her damn near irresistible and when trouble finds her, R.J. knows he'll do anything to help her. And have her.
Nothing But Trouble is one of those books that just leaves you feeling good. It's a sweet story about finding, and avoiding, love. It's also about the lies we tell - to ourselves, to the people we love, to the world. About why we tell them. And how they can shape our lives and affect those around us.
While I really enjoyed this book, I admittedly struggled a bit to connect with R.J. and Rebecca, and their back-and-forth relationship. Don't get me wrong, I liked both of them and I liked them together but at times I felt like I was going in circles when I (and they) should have been moving forward. However, when the time came for me to close the book on them, I found myself satisfied with their ending and, ultimately, how they arrived there. Plus, there is much to enjoy about this book that's deeper than it first appears and is gentle in its own way.
Fun interludes with secondary characters - who have appeared in their own books already - and cute and funny banter between the leads, had me smiling as I read. Like I said, I haven't been to Erin Kern's town of Trouble before, but I'd definitely like to go back.
Nothing But Trouble is the fourth book in the Trouble series and can be read standalone. No cliffhanger. ~ Beth, 4 stars.

A sweet story about resisting what is in front of you.
Rebecca Underwood had worked hard her whole life. She worked hard at pleasing her parents, obtaining a medical degree and finally beginning work in a private practice in her hometown. Life should be perfect except she cannot forget about the one man she could not resist. R J Devlin had captured her heart as a teenager. She had fallen in love with him but after one night of passion R J simply walked away. Believing she was just another notch in his belt, Rebecca watched as R J went from one woman to another but she never stopped loving him. R J Devlin had quite a reputation with the ladies but he was only into casual hookups nothing serious because he couldn’t forget about the one woman that still held his heart, Rebecca. As her dad was nearing retirement, Rebecca and her mom asked R J to restore her dad’s prized possession. A 1967 Chevrolet Camaro. This brought Rebecca back into RJ’s life and he wasn’t going to let her leave. Rebecca had more problems to deal with at her medical office. Someone was writing excessive drug prescriptions to children and she wanted to figure out why and who was actually taking the medicine but finding the truth could cost her everything she had worked for. This was a really good book. I loved how the romance was mixed so well with the mystery of the medicine. The mystery involved not only Rebecca and RJ but several supporting characters that rounded out the story. I recommend this book to anyone looking for a sweet, suspenseful romance. I cannot wait to read more in this series. My review was provided for Sexy Ways of Reading.
Arc for review! Love this book! I highly recommend it, if you are looking for a sweet romance with a little suspense thrown in there! Thank you Erin Kern for this hot read.

**I received an ARC from the author for an honest review.**
This is the first of book of this series that I have read and I really enjoyed it. It isn't just you typical romance where boy meets girl, instalove and then an HEA. There are quite a few things going on in this book to keep you sucked in and waiting to find out what happens and how it will end. The two main characters are both very strong and a bit frustrating at times because of their stubbornness.
I really enjoyed R.J. and his alpha maleness as well as his caring and overprotective nature even though he thought of himself as someone unworthy of Rebecca's love. He was anything but unworthy. He held such a great love for her that you could feel it from the beginning. Rebecca's strong character was something that I really liked. Even thoug she really wanted to be loved by R.J. It wasn't her driving force throughout this story. It was her career and livelihood that she remained for used on and her relationship with R.J. was just and added bonus to her story. The sexual tension those two have is thick and very believable as well as their feeling toward each other.
This book is written in third person with perspectives from R.J., Rebecca and a few quick paragraphs from another character that was a huge part of the storyline. I really enjoyed this Authors writing and ability to tell a story. It is well written and I well worth a read.
Rebecca Underwood has worked hard to all her life to get where she is, now she's content with her quite life working private practice. Until while filling in for the other doctor she realizes something isn't quite right with the amount of children being diagnosed and treated for ADD. One of which takes her to the one place she wanted to avoid, R.J. Devlin's shop. She has to question him concerning one of his employees but how will she deal with coming face to face to with the man who took her virginity, crawled out of her window and out of her life years ago.
R.J. Devlin is a man whore, a man whore who worked his tail off for the automotive shop he loves. Now he's brought face to face with the one woman he ever loved.
Rebecca's investigating could cost her more than she expected. When these two are thrown together what will happen? This is a sweet romance with a little suspense thrown in, I haven't read the previous books in this series but this one held my interest enough that I want to read them all.
Nothing but Trouble is part of a series, but can be read as a standalone. I loved this book! The writing was flawless and the chemistry was sizzling off the pages! R.J. Devlin is a sexy alpha mechanic who has own shop where he restores classic cars. First off, I love hot rods so I really enjoyed that part of the book. And R.J. is just a mega hottie and also a sweetheart. Rebecca is quiet and reserved but at the same time not afraid to explore the chemistry her and R.J. have. Rebecca and R.J. have known each other for years but tend to stay away from each other because they know a relationship with each other will never work. So what happens when they Rebecca takes her dad's car to R.J.'s shop to be restored....well you will just have to read the book to find out! But I will tell you that you won't regret reading it. I definitely recommend this one!

Rebecca has always had a thing for the guy who she lost her virginity too. Now over 10 years later their paths cross again in many ways.
For poor Rebbecca when it rains, it pours. She is in business with a shady doctor who is prescribing a crazy amount of meds to people who don't need them. Now her practice is being shut down. Her life is being turned upside down. Her parents have moved in with her, and then there is R.J. Devlin.
R.J. is the one who took it all. Her virginity and her heart. She doesn't want to let him back into her life. He is working on her dad's car as a surprise present. Now, she sees him all the time.
R.J. thinks he is not good enough for Rebbecca. He has been pushing her away for years. Now that they are given a second chance, can they make it work?
Can you give someone a second chance. Rebecca and R.J. have some major history and now she needs his help, but does she allow him back in?
She is a doctor who has worked hard to get where she is and it seems like everything is just falling apart around her. Her practice has problems, her family has problems and R.J. has made an appearance in her life. After what has happened between the two of them does she allow him back in?
This book is the 4th in a series that was such a pleasure to read.
This is the first book I read in the series..Sweet romance with a little suspense, Small town don't mean boring. First loves might not workout at the time but if you wait long enough you might get back.
