The latest enthralling serial killer thriller from George Helman
A body found in a block of flats leaves more questions than answers, and Inspector Dave McDonald and DS Shirley Palmer investigate. But will their new police chief thwart their efforts to find a potential serial killer before he strikes again, and will Palmer be able to stick to her guns and trust her instincts. An exciting police procedural from the author of ONLY THE GOOD DIE YOUNG that you will not be able to put down.
After reading the debut novel by George Helman, which was a very bold and direct detective thriller about a serial killer, and enjoying it very much, I was very curious to see if the author could pull off another that was just as engaging. And it seems he has. Superb. The detectives' characters develop and have another similarly disturbed serial killer to hunt down before the body count builds. Great!
Accurately balancing this review is challenging. The plot is a good idea, well worth a book but poorly developed. Many details of the plot are simply unbelievable. The writing style is very weak and reminded me of books I read back in elementary school when I was still learning to read. The sentences are short and simple with little background detail. It would be acceptable technical writing but results in a boring novel. I will certainly not be a repeat customer for this author's work.
This was one of the worst books that I have ever read. The story wasn't awful, but the writing was. In the few writing classes that I've taken we've always started with a descriptive paragraph. This author missed that class. There is almost no description or elaboration of anything. People don't have clothes, houses have no color or furnishings. The most we get for a description is white for the color of the wine.
I admit the story was good had a unexpected ending. Not use to the British language I enjoy it when I understood it. Which was most of it. Missed books leading up to this one so didn't understand the voices in Dave's head. Really a story for all ages.
Enjoyable follow up to Only The Good Die Young with the same detectives but a new chief. Kept me guessing about the identity of the serial killer til the end.
I was one of the most unusual mysteries, and it kept you guessing until the end. I did get a little tired of some of the side tracts, be all in all a good story.
