A brilliant start to a new series this one is a spin off from Charlee James last series, which I loved and I loved this one as well, the book starts with SEAL veteran Jordon ‘Iron” Holt on a mission that he has been asked to help with, rescuing the sister of a good friend’s partner, will this one change his life?
Iron has been through a lot in his life, the death of a mate the loss of a leg and medical discharge from a job that he loved, he keeps to himself he has cut himself away from most people, he owns and runs a collision mechanic shop, but even through he doesn’t like to get close to everyone he is always willing to help, hence driving from Virginia to Texas to save Vivienne Day a heiress who is being forced into a marriage, she is vulnerable but so very strong and soon Iron is feeling a pull towards her like never before.
Vivienne has led a life controlled by her parents and then a fiancé but now she is free to do as she wants, to eat as she wants to live her own life and she has so many people to thank for this firstly her sister Hannah but Iron the man who took her away, the man who is teaching her to do normal everyday things the man who is opening her eyes to life and yes to love her heart is opening up can she really find true love after all she has been through with this man who has demons from his past?
I loved this one from start to finish there is nothing I didn’t love, there are some heart-stopping moments and then there are some very sensual and moving moments, of course meeting up with friends from the previous series is awesome and I do highly recommend this one come along and meet Iron and Vivienne I am sure you will love it as much as I did, a must read and I can’t wait for book two.
My thanks to Tule Publishing for my digital copy to read and review.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book, given to me by Tule Publishing via BookFunnel. All thoughts and opinions are my own. 3.5 stars. A sweet romance between a true, fierce “knight in shining armour” and a heroine with an uncommon life, “Challenging her Protector”, by Charlee James, shows two wounded individuals getting attracted to each other and somehow healing throughout the process. I liked Iron, a wounded hero well adjusted to his physical condition but still plagued by guilt. The devotion and protective instinct towards Vivienne is so deep you have to be fascinated by it. I also liked the contrast between the image of strength, power, competence Iron projects and the inner turmoil and pain he still suffers. I loved how the author wrote a hero who’s all male (the size, the muscles…) and also a soft person. The heroine’s life has been torture. Being a victim of domestic violence for so long surely causes unimaginable trauma. Vivienne seems to maintain an innocence that perhaps has protected her from the evil family. While dealing with Iron’s penance and Viv’s feelings of inadequacy a tender and sexy relationship emerge during the heroine’s escape and need for hiding. It was interesting to watch the heroine’s naivete while trying new (to her) trivial things. I felt there was too much talking and mutual praise sometimes.
Challenging Her Protector is the first book in Charlee James’ exciting new series, Unbreakable SEALs. The book actually begins during a book in the prior series. This story features Vivienne, the younger sister of Hannah from the previous series. Vivi has been controlled by her parents and her fiancée to an extreme degree. She is dyslexic and they used that against her to beat her down and make her have to depend on them for everything. She is a model and social media influencer who is well known and makes a lot of money. However her parents dictate what she can eat and when, what she wears and which jobs she takes. They are co-signers on her bank accounts. Her confidence and ability to do anything on her own is very lacking. She is being abused by her fiancée and she finally asks her personal attendant/friend to get a message to her older sister asking for help getting away from her home. Hannah, her boyfriend and his SEAL friends planned to help her escape during her rehearsal dinner where her sister is also in attendance.
Hannah’s boyfriend is a former SEAL and his teammates are along to help this mission succeed. Jordan Holt aka Iron and Silver are in the car with Vivi when they realize there’s a problem and she takes off looking for Hannah. Their other sister is holding a gun on Hannah and attacking her. Vivi and the guys are able to get the police to rescue them and an ambulance to take care of Hannah. It is decided that Vivi, Iron and Silver will leave for Virginia, leaving Hannah and her boyfriend to remain in Texas for the surgery on her leg. During the long drive from Texas to Virginia, Vivi and Iron hit it off and find instant chemistry. She tells him about her life and her treatment by her parents and her fiancee. He vows to keep her safe and introduce her to all the things she has been deprived of in her life. Vivi is very concerned about her friend who disappeared from the rehearsal dinner when her dad discovered she had been helping Vivi. Her fiancee told her the woman had been deported. She shares her concerns with the guys and they vow to have their contacts look for and find the woman.
Vivi receives multiple texts and calls from her parents and fiancee so the team decides it is safer for her to stay at Iron’s house with him to protect her until her sister gets home. Iron is struggling with his feelings because he lost a friend and teammate in the last mission. He also lost his leg. He believes it was his fault and he isn’t worthy of having relationships with his family, his former teammates and now Vivi. The two spend a lot of time talking about their feelings and she tries to convince him it wasn’t his fault and he does deserve all these people as part of his life. She realizes she has fallen for him. He also realizes he has fallen for her and struggles to not make his attraction known. Finally, they do share a heated kiss which makes both of them want more. They discover that Vivi is in danger and decisions have to be made to keep her safe.
This is such a wonderful story. Iron and Vivi both have so much tragedy in their pasts. They are genuine and compassionate. Charlee has again created an exciting and heartwarming book. It is such a compelling story. The book is well written, the characters are developed well and the interactions are enjoyable to read. I like the continuity by having the new book begin during the one from the prior series. It is fun to see all the characters we met in the prior series return and play roles in this book. This is a five star book I highly recommend.
I was fortunate to receive this ARC from Tule Publishing in exchange for my honest review.
This story starts a series that is a spin-off of the Sworn Navy SEALs series. While I don’t think you have to read that series to enjoy this book, for those who have, this story starts during what would be book 3 in that other series. When Iron goes to help some friends get a relative out of a bad situation.
There are a lot of potential triggers in this book, so please check for content warnings before proceeding. Not only was Viv’s diet restricted by her parents for her social media, but it turns out they had been doing it all her life. They are horrible people in so many ways, it’s a wonder Viv (and her sister Hannah) turned out to be such wonderful human beings. Iron has also had his demons. His issues are more internal, with him having to find a way to grapple with his military experiences; losing friends, losing a leg, survivor’s guilt, pain management, etc.
As for the story, I greatly enjoyed the relationship between Iron and Viv. While they both have hangups of not being “good enough” for the other and not wanting to hold the other back, they are actually perfect for each other. Iron helps Viv to gain the confidence to spread her wings. He never oversteps or tries to steer her, he lets her lead the way. This is something she’s never before experienced. Viv helps Iron to see that he is worthy of friendship, love, and respect. She encourages him to open himself back up and allow his loved ones to support him.
With as intense as the beginning of this book was, and the potential threats to Viv, the second half was surprisingly chill. There was a comfort to watching Viv grow and this pair find their rhythm. I did not anticipate enjoying that downtime so much, but I did. Although once the danger returned, I found it to be a bit anticlimactic.
**I received an ARC of this book courtesy of the publisher. All opinions expressed in this review are my own and given freely**
Challenging Her Protector (Unbreakable SEALs Book 1) by Charlee James This story is about Viv and we are filled in on her prison life at home. She's never even been into the kitchens nor how to work any appliances, nor eaten fast food. She's determined to leave the prison of home and go to Hannah her sister with an autistic son. She is able to get word to her and she's coming to help her. At the rehearsal dinner (wedding to be the next day) she leaves to use the restroom but leaves the house and finds Iron there to protect her and bring her to the car. They find Hannah but Regina has aimed a car at her. Viv had run into the woods with no shoes to help her. The men, Iron and Silver help them all keep safe. Hannah is to have her surgery the next day then head home to VA. Now that Viv is on her own while traveling to Hannah's she has to get her money from the account but her parents have permission also to remove money. With it being frozen she hopes Iron or Silver's friends can grant her the access to move the money into a different account she had set up. Now add the fact that Iron has a liking to her and Viv also likes how he feels when he's near her. They are getting too close and have to keep their heads on straight til they are all safe. We learn so much about Jordan (Silver) and his relationship with his brother and parents. She helps to persuade him that he needs to reach out to them, and does. Love how he helps her and she helps him. Love the charity work they are able to do for those less fortunate. More upheavals as her life is in danger again from an ex finance... You hope she can get away ... Love the whole book, how they all pitched in to help Viv and she helps others, that didn't know they needed help. What a future she has to look forward to now. Received a review copy from the publisher and this is my honest opinion.
Wow this book is so good. I enjoyed reading it...and I know you will too. I gave the book 4 stars because of the cussing. I love a good rescue the damsel story and this sure is. This is a story about Vivienne "Vee" to her friends and her rescue from the hell she had grown up in. Her parents ruled every part of her life, they told her when and what she could eat and controlled her diet to every calorie. She had done some modeling and was very good but her parents forced her to put them on her account. She is twenty six years old and had never had a hamburger or fries. They controlled every aspect of her life, her money, what she ate, how she dressed and was not forcing her to marry a man that she did not want too. He treated her bad too and put her down every chance he got, he had gone so far as raping her one night to show her he was in control of her. She finally contacted her sister Hannah for help to get away from her fiancé and her family. Hannah had escaped their control when she was eighteen and had been pregnant with her son Collin. She went on and became a Flight Medic and a great mother. Hannah was a bridesmaid and they had a couple of her friends helping them run away from the wedding. Silver and Jordan "Iron" Holt, both retired Seals came to help their friend. During the rescue Hannah was shot by their older sister and Vee was grazed. She had ran through the a field and her feet were a bloody mess in her tight shoes. Iron immediately felt very protective of Vee. And they grew close while traveling to Hannah's. Hannah had to stay in town and have surgery for her gunshot. For the first time in her twenty six years Vivienne was tasting freedom and answering only to herself.
As with previous stories by this author, this first story in the new series, is thought provoking and touching. This one belongs to former Navy SEAL Jordan/Iron Holt. A man that carries a great among of guilt after he lost a teammate and feels it was his fault. Even more heartbreaking, Iron lost his leg and a career he loved. Nowadays, he keeps to himself and his auto shop. But when his friend Ransom asks his help rescue his girlfriend’s sister from an arranged marriage, Iron throws himself to the rescue. Never expecting that the sheltered and beautiful Vivienne Day, would change his life forever. Vivienne’s life has been ruled by cruel, controlling and manipulating parents. A woman held in a gilded cage. As these two spend time together, feelings develop. One feels a freedom she never expected, the other, feels not worthy of this beautiful woman and considers himself too old for her. But fate has its own agenda. As they navigate through it all, as well as try to find Vivienne’s friend, both will find strength , hope and maybe love. The story was at times heartbreaking as well as heartwarming. A reminder that appearances can be deceiving. Also a reminder that letting go of guilt, can bring joy, hope and new beginnings. For those that have enjoyed the author’s Sworn Navy SEALs, you’ll be happy to know that some of those characters will be playing secondary roles in this story. I was entrusted a copy of this book by Tule Publishing. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
Challenging Her Protector ~ Unbreakable SEALs #1 by Charlee James
Simply Brilliant:)
A fantastic start to a new series by Charlee, this is a spin-off from another great series, Sworn Navy SEALs and follows on from Sworn to Defend #3.
Where the ending was," Hannah Day was summoned to return to Texas to attend her youngest sister Vivienne's speedy, high-society wedding. But Hannah had a feeling something was wrong, she asked her boyfriend, Hunter “Branch” Green and his SEAL teammates to go with her.
SEAL vet Jordan “Iron” Holt is the man tasked to look after Vivienne Day after they rescued her from her pre-wedding dinner, while escaping from her parents and husband-to-be, Scott.
No spoilers, this book needs to be read by others, as my words will not do it justice.
I highly recommend this book to all, it can be read as a standalone. However, I do recommend the other series first, as the characters from those books turn up here:)
Reasons I enjoyed this book: Easy-to-read, Entertaining, Happily Ever After, Original, Page-turner, Romantic, Realistic, and Wonderful characters
💥A brooding Navy SEAL. A sheltered heiress. One mission that will test everything.💥
Challenging Her Protector kicks off the Unbreakable SEALs series with high tension, forbidden longing, and a fierce fight for freedom.

Vivienne has spent her entire life behind gilded bars. Now, she’s finally tasting freedom—learning to trust her instincts, her desires… and the hard-eyed protector who makes her heart race. But the deeper she dives into independence, the harder it is to ignore the smoldering connection between them.
When Vivienne’s past strikes back, dragging her missing best friend into the crosshairs, Iron must make a choice: resist the one woman who sees the light inside him—or fight like hell to keep her.

"Iron" Holt has been discharged from the Teams medically and has felt torn ever since. When he is asked by a former team member to help rescue his girlfriend's friend from a forced marriage, he is willing to do it.
Vivienne has been very sheltered and controlled life. Her parents have controlled every aspect of her life. They have chosen her career as an influencer. So when Viv has the chance to escape this torturous life, she takes it.
You get to watch her bloom and grow as the story develops. You also get to see Iron finally come to grips with the injury that killed his career with the Teams. And you getto watch these two learn to trust and love each other. Although there is a always that bit of struggle with the evil people in the story.
I am finding many of the stories in this series to be somewhat predictable. And they aren't always fun for me to read anymore. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't give them a try. Everyone has different tastes in books.
I was provided with a copy of this novella in advance in exchange for a fair and unbiased review.
Challenging Her Protector is book 1 in the Unbreakable SEALs series by Charlee James 4.5 stars
Jordan “Iron” Holt is trying to life with survivors guilt after the loss of his teammate and the loss of part of his leg from that mission. He separated himself from his military buddies, his family and made a dive to the lowest of lows, started his own business but told kept everyone out. When his friend (from the prior series) asks for help rescuing his fiancée’s sister he doesn’t hesitate. When he rescues Vivienne and brings her back to his home, she helps him put things into prospective and at the same time is helping her begin a new life out from under her domineering parents. What happens next is age gap romance, finding the strength to begin letting go of the past, family good and bad, reconnecting with family and more…

Hannah's sister, Vivienne, is about to go to her rehearsal dinner which has been planned by her parents and cheating fiancé, she's had no say in anything for years, they control her, but she's reached out to Hannah for help. Hannah has lots of helpful friends, ex forces. Iron can't believe what they have to do to save Vivienne (Vee), it's not right that she's being forced to marry someone she doesn't want to. What sort of parents are these, he feels very protective of her, and other feelings that he's trying very hard not to act on. Can Vee overcome her designer wear and just accept ordinary unbranded things or is she as she appears on her blog? Can they keep her safe from her parents and fiance? Will Iron confess how he feels?

A great emotional read from Charlee, looking forward to the next one in the series.
Vivienne aka Vivi had been trained by her parents that her learning disability, dyslexia, limited what and how she did in life. She had her beauty, so a model with her mother monitoring her feed intake, her beauty routine, etc. Her money went into a joint account; what she didn't tell her parents is that she had an separate account with money moved from the joint account. They were forcing her to marry Scott, who had assaulted her and cheated on her. She has gotten a note to her sister, Hannah, for help. The note starts a chain of events where her oldest sister,Regina, tries to kill the two younger sisters, the FBI becomes involved and Vivi's assistant and best friend,Thalia, may have been deported, plus more criminal charges are possible. Iron aka Jordan forms a lasting impact on Vivi, how and why?.

Sweet, emotional and touching: I really enjoyed this emotional yet uplifting romance with a side of suspense. Vivienne and Iron were perfect for each other and I loved how they were able to support and challenge one another. It was wonderful seeing their personal transformations and I was so happy that they got their HEA. This book was the start of a new spinoff series and I initially wished that I had read "Sworn to Defend" from the prior series as there was some continuation from that story. It would have been preferable if the author had of backtracked and relayed more of what had previously transpired instead of just jumping in midway like she did. However once I was caught up to speed, I thoroughly enjoyed the story and look forward to hopefully reading the upcoming books. I’m gonna say it - I fell a little in love with Iron. He was so damaged but generous and so, so protective of Vee.
However, Vivienne (Vee)… I fell all the way! She is so precious - she has to be treasured! She was naive, generous, inquisitive, beautiful in so many ways and she saw beneath the surface and found Iron’s squishy heart.
This is my first Charlee James book, and it will certainly not be my last! If all of the other books in this universe are written like this, I’m going to be reading them all!
Iron’s parents are amazing, and I love the community that they built with friends and teammates. The way that the author has them connect is simply amazing.
Absolute 5 star read, and will certainly be on the re-read list.

This is such a heartwarming story about struggles people face that cause damage. It is about how they can help each other heal and be a healthier version of themselves. It doesn’t actually come out and say PTSD but that is what Iron and Vee had been struggling with before they came together. Ever had been emotionally, psychologically and physically abused but her parents and ex- fiancée. They controlled her because she has a learning disability, dyslexia. They made her think she was not worthy or capable of doing things for herself. Iron is former military who suffered physical and psychological trauma from his last tour . This is their story of healing and saving each other. It is also about acceptance of people regardless of their circumstances or abilities. It is poignant and inspiring.

Challenging Her Protector by Charlee James is the first book in the brand-new series titled Unbreakable SEALs. The former seal known as “Iron,” Jordan Holt is remaking his life after a medical discharge. He is a likable man, adjusting to his physical injuries more so than survivor’s guilt, but he now has a purpose. That is to protect Hannah’s sister, Vivienne, from a forced marriage and sadly from her parents.
A story where the hero protector instinct is strong and active in Jordan as he gives his everything along with his friends to protect Vivienne. She wants freedom but love too. Both are found with Jrdan. A military romance that has you rooting for the brave, knowing that thy will still protect at home as well as abroad.
This story jumps to a fast pace start and is about Vivienne, a sister of a character from the Sworn Navy SEALS series. Ex SEAL Jordan “Iron” Holt has come to help rescue Vivienne from a forced marriage not aware that in this act he is actually saving himself. Both “Vee” and Iron have deep traumatic experiences that they must overcome. I enjoyed watching their relationship deepen and grow. Vivienne’s joyous blooming in her new environment was captivating. Each found healing from the evil and anguish of their pasts as they allowed love in. Acceptance, found family, honest emotions, humorous moments and a bit of suspense made this a sweet read.

Well written, full of drama, intrigue, domestic violence, PTSD, physically abuse, hope, intrigue and a rescue. Jordan "Iron" has an auto repair shop after he lost his lost his leg to a Navy Seal accident. He still is close friends with some of the other guys from the team. When offered to help rescue a woman who is Hannah's sister and facing the same abuse from her parents, he agrees. They go to the pre-wedding dinner and take her from there. Both Iron and Viviene have their trauma that they need to deal with and need to resolve. Great to have former characters from the other stories in this series. Would recommend to others.

This is the first book I read from this author and I am so glad that I did. The characters are well rounded with a lot of depth to them and watching them fall in love is hauntingly beautiful. Through their romance, Iron and Vee grow emotionally and open up their hearts to letting people in and having a fuller life. The side characters are fantastic and add so much richness to the story. There is a great family and friendship bond. The story has the perfect amount of drama and suspense in it as well. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and highly recommend it.

This is Jordan and Vivienne's story and it has a very entertaining storyline. There is plenty of intrigue and drama for these two traumatized souls but they are a perfect fit for each other. Jordan is suffering from the loss of a friend while in the Navy Seals as well as his discharge after the loss of his leg but when a friend asks him to help save Hannah's sister Vivi from a forced marriage and her controlling parents he steps up. There is plenty of danger and suspense to keep you reading till the end. I highly recommend!.

A fantastic story of resilience and determination. Vivienne has dyslexia and her parents believe she is dumb. Her parents control every aspect of her life. When they decide that she will marry a man she doesn't want, she calls her sister for help. Her sister was able to get away from her family. Jordan/ Iron is part of the team sent to rescue her. Iron is carrying a lot of baggage from the past. Can they overcome their past to be together?.

I love Charlee James and this one is no exception. A great start to a new series. UNBREAKABLE SEAL’s
Seal Jordan Holt aka Iron, is a gentle giant. How can you not love a man full of muscles, but has a sweet and gentle heart!?!? Vivienne’s character grabbed me right away. So glad that she’s finally free to live her own life without her parents and her exfiancé telling her what to do. I enjoyed catching up with some characters from the SWORN NAVY SEAL’s series. Thank you Tule publishing for this ARC
I voluntarily read an advanced reader's copy of this book for a honest opinion.
A great start to the Unbreakable SEALs. Challenging Her Protector by Charlee James. The book is bringing some of the characters from her Sworn Navy SEALs series. I really enjoyed this book and her past books. It had likable characters, great development of the storyline and dialogue that I hated to stop reading the book. I can't wait until we get to read the next book in the series.
Such a sweet and lovely story of a man learning through a delightful woman to slowly destroy his self-imposed isolation. She has been controlled and sheltered all her life by her demanding parents. When she is freed from the horror, she sees the world through absolutely fresh and amazed eyes. Their developing love is a delightful journey. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This was such an enjoyable read, and I was able to catch up with some characters from a previous series I had also enjoyed by Charlee James. Jordan, well Seal vet Iron and Vivienne’s love story made a great storyline, the danger he was protecting her from and yes also the sizzling sparks flying between them kept my fingers turning the pages. So I am waiting for book two , and recommending this book one as one that can capture your heart.
Vivienne needs to escape from her parents hold. They are forcing her into a marriage she doesn't want. Iron has been called upon to protect and rescue her. There is a lot going on that she hasn't ever realized before but now she does and it's a doozy. IRON has his own demons but together they can slay all of them.

I have really enjoyed seeing how things turned out for Vivienne after meeting her in a previous story. I loved the connection between her and Iron, how open and honest they were with each other, how they supported each other and helped one another start to heal. It was nice to see Vivi discover herself and choose what she wanted.

I hadn't realized that this was a spinoff of one of the other series and as I read thought wait. I know Silver, Hannah and Branch. Iron is just as interesting a character as the others. Vivienne and Iron make for an interesting couple that starts off with drama and danger and ends sweet. I am looking forward to the next instalment.
