Sadly the plot had two things I don't like....
and
...okay make that three. It also had the dreaded plot line. Which in turn led to all of the secrets and drama.

So now that this has been revealed....
I had a friend spoil the rest of the book for me (thanks Aksana) and I know I would have just gotten more and more annoyed.
Sadly their patterns and practices continue...
And Holly never even tells Sy her secret....he guesses it.
Yeah....not pleased!
The first 40% was just the same damn thing over and over again.

Moving on....too many books, too little time.

I LOVED LOVED LOVED this WAY more than book 1!! This just made me feel, the emotional turmoil of losing a loved one, the battle of guilt, trying to move on with life, just so beautifully written, LOVED every moment of reading this and I freaking can not wait for the next book in this series!!

I loved the banter, the heartache, the joining of two strong minded characters trying to ignore their feelings for the other, I just loved how this book made me feel that connection with these two, the highs and lows, the ups and downs, the trials and tribulations,it had it all and I loved every minute I spent feeling the pain, the pull into the darkness, the emotional turmoil, this book just gripped me right till the end..

It only took me those three little words and what followed after to get those tears flowing, you will just have to purchase the book to find out what those three vital words are, but that is the point where Sy became the closed off man he is in the book..
I know if I force her, I'll only end up pushing her further away, and if I ever want her light tohelp me out of my darkness, then I need to wait, I will sit in the darkness waiting, waiting for her to come and guide me back out. And while I wait, hoping the light comes soon, I will thank god I'm not afraid of the dark.

Wow, totally blown away here.
From the moment Holly and Sy met in Incandescent I was screaming inside.
They had such an intense attraction that sizzled underneath. Sy's animosity and ambivalent attitude just made me want to peel back his layers. I wanted to see the man beneath the inked fortress he’s erected for so many years. I have a weakness for brooding bad boys and Sy fit that bill all the way. Holly was funny and crazy and what happens to her just broke my heart along with her spirit. I loved how Sy didn't let his hang ups keep him from Holly when she needed him. He was determined to be there for her in whatever capacity he could be.
On the outside looking in, it would seem that he’s there for her but in so many ways him being her strength slowly built his back up.
They were stronger together than apart and I thought that was wonderful. Sy has a past that is finally brought to light and while putting the pieces back together from Holly's shattered heart, Sy finds him self healing right along with her. It was beautiful how they went from lust to friendship to a deep abiding forever love. This book had it all. From moments of sheer beauty to soul tormenting pain and angst. So much beauty! So much emotion! Holly's pain and despair never stood a chance with a love like Sy there to fight back the darkness.
There was mystery and humor and yes danger.. and lots of sexy dirty talking hot love scenes. This wouldn’t be stamped a River Savage Novel without a dirty talking, burn up the sheets sex machine hero. Sy is all of that and more.
River Savage is pure genius with her feisty heroines and loyal, protective alpha male heroes. I know going in that her heroes are not going to let me down.
One of my favorite moments was when we got to see more of Nix and Kadence and a lot of the other characters. I want more of Jesse and Beau. The two guys who make the most fun of Nix and Sy are the ones that I bet fall the hardest. Heck I look forward to the next installment with a smile on my face and totally adore this author's work so much. River..thank you!!

I simply couldn't bring myself to care about the characters. I dont know if it's because of me or because of the writing.
This book deals with some serious topics namely but the writing was not good enough to deliver those emotions to me IMO.

2 don't let the pretty pic fool you STARS
That's pretty much the books in two sentences.
The second instalment in the Knights Rebels MC series tells the story of Sy and Holly. Both characters were introduced in Incandescent. Holly is Kadence's best friend and Sy is part of Nix's MC. After really loving the first book I was very much looking forward to read their story, especially after already seeing little hints and clues as to what happened between Sy and Holly.
Buuuuut....it was a huge disappointment. I'm really sorry to say this, but it was boring as hell and I wanted to DNF more than once. In the end I struggled through because I really want to see what the rest of the series might bring.
The book starts around the time Incandescent began, just because all the characters met at the same time. So within the first 20% the events from the last book are told from Sy and Holly's POV. All the hints and clues from Incandescent are tied up. Pretty much all I had imagined before, happened for real and after that nothing really world moving occurred. And I practised my skimming skills.
For the most part we see Holly’s huge struggle to tell Sy about THAT THING. And I appreciate her pain and the psychological difficulties she goes through but at some point the story has to move on. Seriously!
And my biggest issue...
The thing I was most interested in was Sy's past and how he became the silent brooding type with lots of anger issues. Unfortunately that particular riddle is already solved in the prologue. Maybe another structure here would have helped to keep my interest.
Unfortunately, I wasn't convinced with their chemistry either and I didn't enjoy their relationship as much as I thought I would. The insta-lust aside I just never really rooted for them.
In all fairness, the last 20% were better, but by that time I was already mentally gone...

I liked this one a lot better than the first one, although I find myself not having all that much to say about it at the moment. But that's what happens when you read 4 books in one day and get 1 hour of sleep.
Perhaps I might try to write a proper review on this later...but I doubt it.

After the events of the first book, I was really curious how the author was going to figure everything out between Holly and Sy....and I have to say, she did a good job!
First off, let me just say that Sy's past broke my freaking heart! Any time I saw those damn italics appear on page, I had to brace myself for some serious heart squeezing emotion.
The beginning of Sy and Holly's relationship was intense and dysfunctional. It was spurred on by pure lust and attraction. A lot of things were being felt, but nothing was being said...which just built up the tension since after reading the first book, you know what's to come...it also created some serious frustration.
I was concerned that this book would feel too depressing and dreary in the aftermath of what happens at the end of the first book...but it surprisingly wasn't. Watching Holly deal with her issues was so sad, especially seeing how months later she was still heavily weighed down by the loss. Her normally upbeat and spunky personality was buried by grief and anxiety. But watching the cat and mouse game with Sy slowly wake up her heart added some great banter and at times, comedic relief.
Once Sy pulled his head out of his ass, I loved watching him fight for Holly. He refused to give up. He recognized the same sadness in her that he carried, and he just knew that together they could have a future together. And that future was going to be happy.....and hot as hell!!
However, I wish it didn't take them so long to finally open up to each other. I understood both of their trepidations, and their reasoning made sense, but waiting for Holly to finally tell Sy what truly happened to her made the book drag in spots. The book isn't that long...a little over 300 pages...but damn did it feel long. I found myself a bit bored at times.
Overall, I'm really enjoying this series and am curious what's in store for the rest of the guys. Jesse, the manwhore, is next, which could be interesting.....but my real curiosity lies with Beau and his connection with someone introduced in this book.

Well this one was great!!
It was alpha, gritty, and super sexy without the guy being a dick.
The perfect kind of MC book in my opinion!
I'm a bit worried about the next book but fingers crossed Ms. Savage continues to write "Polly Friendly" MC books!

I know this book is generally highly rated and I recognize the quality of the work. However it was just too much sadness and despair for me to really enjoy in this genre. I liked the characters and admired them for trying to survive the tragedies in their lives, but there was so much sadness. Sy was such an asshole to her in he prior book I jut did not see it as a foundation for any friendship/relationship. I know he was dependable to her during her troubles, but I had a hard time letting go of the past biome times a series can be hard to read! I needed more happy times. Or maybe an epilogue more about them than the previous couple. A small warning about OW drama

This book leaves me torn. When I read Incandescent, I loved Sy. He was quiet and moody and mysterious. I even liked Holly. She was fun and a great friend to Kadence. But there was something different in this book. I'm not sure exactly what changed with Holly, but she felt off to me. Her fun personalty came off as annoying sass that was trying too hard. So it was really hard to connect with her in the beginning. And I really didn't like her for Sy.
It wasn't until the overlapping events from the first book and how Holly changed in the aftermath that I warmed up to her. She still had some sass and attitude, but she wasn't forced anymore. It felt more natural and she was easier to connect to. But once she started going back to her "old self" I started having issues again. I just didn't care for her attitude & personality. I guess I liked her when she was more serious.
Story-wise, this book was heartbreaking. It was pretty obvious that Sy was hiding his past in Incandescent, so I couldn't wait to find out more about him. There were quite a few flashbacks for him, all surrounding a certain event that happened in his life. Let me tell you, that there was one in particular that literally tore my heart out, made me sob and have to put the book down for the night. Poor Sy just couldn't catch a break. So I was really happy to see him finally find out everything that Holly went through and get his HEA.
Holly might not have been my favorite heroine, but by the end of the book, I was glad to see them happy and starting a life together. I'm definitely curious about the other guys in the MC and what their stories will be.

I found this book on an angsty list but I don't know why it was there. The book does touch on heavy, tragic subjects, but the way it was conveyed was so lacking. I didn't feel a single thing as I listened to this book.
The MC element was very light and I was thankful for that since it's not really my thing.
This, in fact, should've been right up my alley since it's so character heavy, but I didn't care for either of them. The heroine in particular.
The heroine is more promiscuous than I usually like, but if she wasn't she would be blander than a white oak dresser against a beige wall. We never get a chance to know who she is as a person before her trauma and the person she is after is 'the girl with the trauma'.
The book is about her learning to live with her trauma (by dating the hero). But it's not so much the healing journey (or her methods) I object to, but her life itself. Who is she? What does she want to do? What will she do? We know she's a hairdresser, but she doesn't express any particular love or hate for her career. She used to party a lot... That's it. Absolutely nothing going for her.
The hero had some healing of his own to do but it was more interesting to see because by overcoming it, his life would pretty fantastic. He's got a job he likes as a tattoo artist and he's also part of the motorcycle club. He's involved in the club activities (nothing illegal as far as I understood) and in the life of its members. His life seems rich enough. The reason I didn't like him more was the reason he decided to go after the heroine. They were just FWB and it didn't sound like he was ready to try anything more until the incident happens.
I needed an audiobook today, so I kinda just let it play as I did the things I had to do, but I don't think I would've finished it if I was reading it.

Most of the times in a series, the first book is amazing and the second is just a rewrite! This is not the case with this series! The story of Sy and Holly is beautiful!!!! Really beautiful! The writing is amazing and the plot moves again fast. The book is written again from a double POV (Holly's and Sy's) and POV is changed with every chapter (like in the previous book) but the author had another ace in her sleeve for this book. The book doesn't start where the previous book stopped but it takes their story from the beginning when the story of Kadence and Nix was already happening. It was brilliant!!!!!! There were so many new information about everyting that was happening among Sy and Holly but also for Nix and Kadence! I really loved it!!!!! It was a fantastic book! I have to warn you that this is not just a love story but there are a lot of things that are going on. The author is putting some serious issues in the book and I really love it.

4 Smoking Hot Stars!!
I loved Holly and Sy in Incandescent. I was so excited that book 2 was going to be about them.

Holly doesn't give up. They start off their relationship backwards. One night of steamy as hell up against the wall sex turns into another night. Then something happens and the tables are turned. Holly wants nothing to do with Sy and Sy wants Holly. So they form a friendship and eventually they fall in love.
I really loved this one and can NOT wait for Jesse's story next! I have no clue who is going to bring this playboy down to his knees. I can't wait to read all about it:-)

This was a good love story centered around two people who struggle through some very heavy emotional issues to find true love and happiness. The story actually dealt more with their own personal struggles and the negative impact of being afraid to share and face the terrible losses in your life. Sy is one hot, moody, unhappy man who expects full disclosure from Holly but fails to completely put all of his cards down until the last part of the book. But I think he is one of the most sensitive heroes I have read about in a long time. He just fails to show that sensitivity all the time, but when he does it melts your heart. I really couldn't understand why Holly kept her secret for so long, especially after hooking back up with Sy. I enjoyed reading about the characters from book 1 and look forward to the next book in this series. Personally, I enjoyed book 1 the most. The story lines were totally opposite and shows me the author has great writing capabilities and doesn't get stuck in the same old story rut.

First off, I have been in a constant state of readiness ever since I read Incandescent and was introduced to Sy and Holly. I do love me some Kadence and Nix, but I really enjoyed Sy and Holly. If ever there was a couple that deserved to be together – it’s them. If ever there were two individuals, who based upon their past experiences, could help the other out – it’s them. From book one in the Knights Rebel series you are introduced to Sy’s character quiet, sullen, brooding and you are introduced to Kadence’s ball of thunder aka her best friend Holly. One would think the two would rub each other the wrong way seeing as how they have two opposite personalities, but you can literally feel the heat emanating from these two. Piggybacking from book 1 you know why Holly is damaged and the first portion of this book fills you in on Sy’s background. Based on the introduction of these two characters from Book 1 I strongly suggest that you read that one first.
In my opinion, the best part of this book was the friendship that developed between Sy and Holly. You were actually able to have a front row seat to the beginning of their "relationship" and the ups and downs of its intensity at the same time that Holly was able to take steps toward handling her recent loss. If you enjoyed Book 1 you'll fall in love with Book 2.

Affliction was awesome. I love a good MC biker book and this was one of the best. Holly and Sy's story was a heartbreakingly touching emotional roller coaster. Sy was a rough, sexy alpha biker with a tragic past and a broken heart. Holly was a fun loving party girl until her life is shattered in an act of violence. Their chemistry was amazing and story really draws you in as Sy and Holly try to help each other heal from their emotional and physical wounds. I definitely recommend this book and look forward to Jessie’s story.

I enjoyed this one so much!! While reading the first one I looked forward to Sy and Holly's story! And hot damn it was a hot and fantastic read!
It had dark and heartbreaking moments but also lot's of joyful moments! First when I started it I suspected a different start so it did manage to surprise me.
Holly is a fun and sassy woman who isn't afraid to tell her how she sees it and when she doesn't agree.
Sy is a bossy alpha male who likes to tell his woman what to do and what he wants and expects from her. When I first met him I didn't expect that he was so much fun and exciting, first he was silently brooding and the next thing I knew he was demanding and speaking.

This book is nothing like the lighthearted first book. This one is Angst. Just hours of fucking angst. I still love this series, but be prepared. This one has major TRIGGER warnings below. This book starts at the the same point in the last book when Holly and Kadence go to get their belly's pierced and meet Sy for the first time.
Sylas Dean (sexy as fuck tattoo artist, member of Knights Rebels MC, traumatic history) is being his grumpy self, working in the tattoo shop when Nix's girlfriend Kadence walks in with her BFF, Holly (hairdresser, annoying twat). Sy has no love to give anyone after his heart was broken irrevocably in his past, so this siren who is full of sunshine is the last thing he wants in his life. Holly is eventually too much of a temptation, so he takes her against a wall - then walks away and returns to being his total dickhole self. He doesn't plan to see her again, until Kadence and Holly are kidnapped by Kadence's ex (in the first book). Holly is shot in the stomach and nearly dies. When she comes out of surgery, she refuses to see Sy or anyone else. Sy realizes that he cares a lot for her and does everything to try and coax the old spark out of her. It takes months before they return to a good place, and when she's finally starting to look/feel like her old self - the truth comes out about why she shut down. Drama happens, more truths come out, club business, HEA. Their HEA is actually continued in the next book.
SEX: When they have it - it's hot. I'll ride Sy anytime he wants.
TIME: There are some time discrepancies in this. Some things didn't add up. If I had read instead of listened, I could have kept better track of it. Just be flexible on that.
AUDIO: Joe Arden is hot. Lidia Dornet is not. I've said it before - her voice is fine - her "male" voice is fine. It's her "O" voice that makes me stabby. If that's the voice she uses during IRL sex - she must not get laid very much. It's enough to make a grown man cry.

2.5 stars, same rating as the first, unfortunately
This starts off with a very devastated biker...and me, the reader, mad at women who deceive men in really raw ways. This trope is sooo done sometimes. Overcooked or unfinished.
But anyway, I kept reading and when the hurt and afflicted biker, Sy, tries and fails to fight his combustible attraction to a woman who is apparently "his type" (banging body and long blonde hair, like his ex, his kryptonite), the heat is ON.
Of course these two torch the sheets--or walls-- rather raunchily, but neither wants a commitment, not that their actions scream this...because, yeah...they are in denial..
They are careless with each other, at one point causing the heroine to be that girl who does that--yeah, the thing we readers yell at our kindles(etc.) with elongated sighs of "Why!"
And so... I hope that wasn't too spoiler for ya, keeping you guessing and wondering if you should read. Just don't expect a great romance or any qualities that are too admirable in the two main characters.
My advice? If you rated the first one of this series with 3 or more stars, then you may like this one too. The characters do communicate in ways that end up effective, eventually. One thing: the sequence of events at the end can be considered either an annoyance or an actual improvement. It depends on you, the reader.

5 +++ SuperSy Stars. (Review from 2014)
I am so into this series. Consider me truly hooked. This is the second book in the series focusing on Sy, one of the Knights Rebels MC guys and Holly who we met in the first book. Holly is Kadence' s best friend - Kadence and Nix are the couple from book one. The trauma Holly experienced in the first novel is one of the key elements of this book. However, Sy also has his own desperately sad experiences that still haunt him. This book really does break your heart in places when you read their respective traumatic life events. Together they have an awesome chemistry. I liked Holly very much and thought she was a brilliantly written heroine. She had the right balance of vulnerability, sparkle and passion. As for Sy...whoa! Hot, alpha, demanding and commanding with a loyal and protective streak a mile wide. These two were made for each other. Jesse's story is next...can't wait!
OCTOBER 2020 - RE READ VIA Audible.
It had been a while since I had read this book but I listened on audible. Still really enjoyable but still carries a really strong emotional punch. If the loss of a child to cancer or miscarriage is a trigger for you then be mindful they are both themes in this story.

Another great addition to the series.
Not as light-hearted as book 1 in my opinion.
The first 25% or so touches on the timeline and events from book 1 - I would say it is necessary to read book 1 first, as a lot of the first quarter of this book, is a re cap, and the knowledge of book 1 is needed.
But, it is a great story - as a reader being able to understand why Sy is as he is, and seeing the changes Holly goes through, how she changes after she is shot and dealing with the aftermath, to how she comes back to her self again, with the help of Sy.
Sy is a great character - his pain and past is truly heartbreaking, and his determination to help Holly overcome her pain, while still being in the dark about all she is hiding.
I really enjoyed the story and how thier relationship built and developed from a purely sexual one, to an almost reluctant friendship to a true love.
But and this is why it is not a five, I never really quite truly understood why Holly did not tell Sy straight off, and why she took so long to tell him about her pregnancy and subsequent loss. They were well into a relationship before she found out about his past, but this then just offered up another excuse to hold off telling him something I do not get why she did not tell him when it happened.
But, I am really looking forward to Beau and Jesse's stories.

This story had me in tears in the first chapter and reading Sy's story was heartbreaking.

He had so much patience with Holly, trying to get her to be the girl she was before the tragedy struck.
There was mystery and humor and yes danger.. and lots of sexy dirty talking hot love scenes.
But also lots of sweet moments with Sy...
If you loved the first book, I guarantee you will fall more in love with this authors work after this book.
