Home Hearts Hooves is book one in the Beaker Brothers Ranch series by Becca Jackson. This is my very first book by this author. If you love sweet romances with tons of adorable animals with a side order of steam, then this book is for you.



Dean Beaker is thirty one years old and is, I believe, the oldest of the Beaker siblings. He was raised and still lives on the Beaker Brothers Ranch in Bellerelle, Geogia. It is primarily a dairy farm but they also have a menagerie of unwanted, misfit animals, like bald chickens and a donkey that thinks he’s a milk cow! Believe me, these animals are going to melt your heart. Dean has had a crush on the town veterinarian, Preston, since high school. Now that he is the full time vet in town, he comes to the ranch often and poor Dean can’t help but get all tongue tied every time he’s around.



Preston Knight left Bellerelle for awhile after high school to travel and to go to Vet school. But then he came home to take over his father’s practice. He loves his town and the people in it. Preston also may have a slight crush on Dean. But just when he thinks they are both ready to start something, Preston gets some life changing news that changes everything.



I think my favorite thing about this book was the little pigmy goat. Get ready for your hearts to melt with this little fella! Preston and Dean were wonderful together. I have no problem with slow burn but I do wish that the romance part of this happened a little faster. It seemed like all the swoony parts were in the last fifteen percent. It did have a sweet ending that left me feeling happy. The next book is going to be called Cabins Cows Critics. I have a suspicion of who it might be about but we’ll have to wait to see if I’m right!

This is a super cute small town, rancher / vet romance and there are so many animals! I want to go cuddle a cow and a baby goat so badly now but those weird chickens did kind of freak me out a little with the mental images I was getting...😂😂

I really enjoyed how tongue-tied and flustered Dean got around Preston and how his brother Nial teased him about it. Preston was difficult to like at times because he did act kind of childish with his jealousy of how his daughter was bonding with other people, yet he never asked her about it? He was just mad she would hug other people, immediately called his mum grandma... I kinda wanted to tell him to grow up! Dean was an absolute sweetheart though and honestly it was kinda swoony how he looked after the baby goat...

I'm really hoping we get a book for Nial and the eldest Royal kid next - I can't remember his name though 😂

God what I wouldn't give to be able to visit Beaker Brother's Ranch and cuddle the mini cows! This rag tag farm full of misfits sounds like absolute heaven!

I seriously loved this so much! Dean and Preston's story had me laughing out loud one moment and swooning the next. They were just too precious for words, and I cannot wait for more of this series!

I was really into this book until about 69% (heh, nice) and then for whatever reason just sort of... stalled out. I finally picked it back up and the last quarter of the book I really enjoyed again. I think I was just dreading that third act breakup drama coming, idk!

I love how tongue-tied Dead gets around Preston, and how he calls him "Doc." There are definitely some very swoony and spicy moments in this book!

Technically speaking, there were some bits where the writing or the timeline didn't seem to flow quite right. Especially after the first time Dean and Preston hook up, then they don't speak for a while, then to they, then they don't, and in one place it says it was two weeks, then there's another week, and then it's like "it was two weeks" when 2 + 1 = 3, not two... Inconsistencies like that just throw me entirely out of the story, and there were enough of them that I was getting really frustrated.

This is the first book in the Beaker Brothers Ranch series and can be read as a standalone. I'll definitely be checking out the next book in the series!

This was so damn cute, I can't. Mostly I just wanna cuddle with all the animals, God knows I could use it. Also, cowboys, am I right?? (Not the ones that play in Dallas, obviously). I've never read anything by this author before, but I'm glad I picked this one up. I'm excited for the next part!! 🩷
Also, the spelling of Nial in this series is horrendous, it's spelled NIALL!!! 🤭

Where are my cowboy loving bookies? If you love a good sweet, a whole lot of pining, slow burn (but worth the wait) cowboy and vet who wants to save “every animal” then this is the book for you.

This book was what I needed at the time I read it. You couldn’t help but fall in love with these 2 characters in their own way.

Dean and his pining over Preston since they were kids was just everything. Dean is such a hot mess around Preston with all his stumbling around his words and not being able to tell Preston no when it comes to some strange animal needing a home. He is just the sweetest cowboy ever and deserved all the happiness in the world.

Then you have Preston who had been hiding himself for way too long (not to his parents of course). The pining happening on his side was a different kind of pining 🤭. Even with me getting upset at Preston I couldn’t help cheering him on to get his head out of his @$$ 🤭 (IYKYN). Lots was thrown at him but have to admit he handled it all the best he could so u didn’t stay upset with him for too long 🤣.

Overall this book was truly something special. Oh and the side characters that I can’t wait to get stories on were also amazing. Dean’s brother Nial tried to steal the show a 🤏🏼 but nope this show was all Preston & Dean. I can’t wait for Nial’s story for sure. After all he is 👇🏼

A sweet swoon worthy small farm romance. Dean has had a crush on the local vet since they were both too young to know what that really was. Life happened, making Preston want to see the world before settling down in his hometown where he knew he would always land. Dean has stayed on his homestead where he and his family have a menagerie of one of a kind animals. This family has the biggest hearts you could imagine, and it's no surprise that when Preston gets even closer to the family, he is gonna be a part of them forever. These two are frigging adorable in their way of opening up to one another a great side series from Beccas banana ball series that we've all come to know and love.

What a sweet read!

Small town romance between the local vet and rancher? what more could you want!

Dean and Preston are great MCs. We really got to know them and what's important to them, which is their family, community, and each other! Author did a great job setting the stage of rancher life. We not only get a romance, but day to day life as rancher, unexpected twists and turns, and a sweet little town with big characters. Great spice. Great side characters. And a sugar sweet happy ending. My only hang up was I wanted them to end up together sooner rather than later, but otherwise, I know many will enjoy this one and all the sweet animals!

I am going to break one of my rules. I do not like to give out 5 stars for the first in a series, but I enjoyed this book way too much to give it anything less.

Beaker Brothers Ranch is mostly a ranch for animals no one else wants. Yes it is a full fledged dairy farm, but it is so much more.

Dean Beaker is always allowing Preston the town's vet to bring him any animal that needs a safe place to stay. The two grew up together but once Preston broke up with his girlfriend and left town to go to school and travel the world Dean moved on. But now Preston is back and working hard. He comes to the ranch all the time to help with their many animals and Dean always gets his tongue tied. However after helping deliver a calf in the middle of a dangerous storm things shifted between the two. Dean could not believe his luck, to have finally gotten the guy he always wanted.

Preston just loves to take all the animals to the farm. He wonders if Dean will ever say no. So far he took a fainting horse that plays dead, a dwarf pigmy goat that has to be with Dean ALL THE TIME, and the many other critters Preston needs to find homes for. They started out saving animals when they were just little and Preston came across a cat that had been hit by a car and killed and left behind kittens. Preston used his charms and got Dean and his brothers to bring the momma cat to Preston's so he could burry it. Now it is the same just bigger animals, just not rabbits!

After their night together Preston gets some shocking news. He needs to pull away from Dean till he can figure things out. However Dean suffers a gruesome injury and ends up working at Preston's practice till he can get back to ranching. Being together all day long can only bring them closer!

Will Dean help Preston with his news? Will it be a big change in Preston's life? Will Dean have to sit by and watch Preston with another? Does the farm continue to expand their offerings? Will they ever figure out how the goat gets out? Will the pigmy find others he likes as much as Dean?

love Love LOVE this book so much and can not wait for the next ones in this series... there is so many stories to go!

Beaker Brothers Ranch is 100% a place I would love to visit. I would cow cuddle, visit the minis, play with the goats, everything, all the time. Dean Beaker runs the ranch with his brother, Niall, and some amazing people. It’s been in the family for generations. They are always working to make it better and they treat their animals so well. All the ranch members are awesome, but Connor and Skye really grabbed my heart.
The only issue is the local vet, Preston. Preston lived here when his dad was the vet and Dean had a crush on young Preston. It never went anywhere because Preston left town. But now he’s back and he’s taken over the vet practice after his dad’s passing.Preston is also vegetarian, so bonus points from me.
Preston had a serious girlfriend, Isabelle, when he lived in town before but they broke up when he left. Preston is great, maybe too great. Because Dean has a huge crush still and when he is around Preston, “…I struggle to actually listen to his words and end up just nodding agreement to everything he says or speaking in gibberish. Totally hot, right?” It’s not hot but it is amusing. What ends up happening is every time Preston finds a misfit, hurt, or special needs animal, off he goes to Beakers and Dean always accepts. Like Gordon the donkey, who was raised among the cows and believes he is a cow. He has a special harness so he can pretend to be milked like the cows. When there’s a new tagging system, Gordon has to be tagged. “It was easier for me to get Preston to tag him than to deal with his tantrum.” Seriously, I loved him.
There’s a big side issue (I don’t want to spoil) with Preston that makes him turn very cold about Dean, even after they’ve kissed. I lost some of the good feelings I had about him because I really felt it was unfair to Dean, and at one point, I just thought – Dean, quit being a doormat! A little ghosting, one-word responses, avoiding Dean while at the ranch, where SO MANY of the animals Preston has put there are housed. It just left a sour taste for me.
Something that was driving me nuts, as a teacher, was the misspellings. Skye’s name was spelled “Sky” repeatedly, even on a page where it was spelled correctly two sentences later. Llama, the animal, was repeatedly spelling lama. “Sharers” for “shavers”, etc.
There’s a plot line that requires Preston and Dean to get closer, and that helped see how they related together. And again, the side characters rule. Niall, who brings out the “Bestest brother of the gays” t-shirt, just seriously made me smile. And Connor, who for his whole life has wanted a pygmy goat to add to the collection, is thrilled when Preston finds a misfit who needs a home. Only to find out. “Little fucker won’t let anyone else hold him. I’ve wanted a mini goat for as long as I can remember and the thing can’t stand me.” Poor Connor! BTW, the goat’s name is Cuddles, and I wanted to hold him too.
This story had some great character moments, but seriously, the setting is outstanding. Beaker Ranch is just the place you want to be, and its people are the ones you want to meet.

Eeeeeeeeeeeee okay i loved MOST of this EXCEPT for how hard this went about having kids. That vibe may hit for some, but i thought it was a bit heavy-handed. Also, i wasn't a fan of the spelling of "llama" but iiwii.

Luckily everything happening on the other side of that melodrama was an absolute winner for me, so i did my best to forget all the cringe and focused on what i came to the Beaker Brothers Ranch for! And all of that was so YAY and delightful that i'm just really happy i was able to turn a blind eye to the parts of the narrative that irritated me the most!

The positives were soooo good though, and i could not help smiling and feeling all warm and lovely after Home Heart Hooves was done. And i know i'll be happy to reread this again because what worked for me REALLY worked for me lol!

Not only were there a bunch of endearing, kind and mischievous cowboys, but at the Beaker Brothers Ranch they loved on their animals so wholeheartedly that i damn near choked up every single time some soft, sweet and or quirky thing went down!

AND NOT ONLY THAT but there was MORE THAN ONE animal "whisperer" type, so obvs gold stars for all the animal love that just melted my heart from page 1!!

The narrative style and tone flowed easy breezy, with solid characterization and lots of sunshiney, salt of the earth energy that just made this the kind of hearty romance i can get behind any day of the week! Preston and Dean were pretty adorable together, but i also loooooved that they were both so well-defined outside of their relationship! The banter and playfulness between all the characters were so fun to read, and they all added to the narrative glee and i loved that!

So overall i had a really great time with my first Becca Jackson! Minus the niggles ("Llama" and the drama) this turned out to be the lighthearted, full-bodied romance i love to love! Can't wait for the rest of this series because Home Heart Hooves was marvelous and i want more of this animal joy in my brain!

I'm fucking obsessed. These two were adorable as hell. Their love story was years in the making (and then some), but it was so worth it. It was warm and happy and comfortable and silly.

The only thing more adorable than Dean and Preston? The animals on this farm. I want to visit a farm with quirky, lovable animals. I was looking forward to their antics almost more than the romance. They were hilarious. Imagine all of the weird animal videos you ever saw, but they all live on one farm.

MY OPINION: I’m going to enjoy this series. This is not a typical ranch with typical cowboys. These guys are country, and work the ranch (and dairy farm), but they also have a menagerie of animals that all have quirks and are an amazing landscape to the story.

These two men have known each other since they were in high school. There was an almost-situation at graduation, but nothing came of it, and they both went on with their lives. Years later, when Dr. Preston Knight returns to take over the veterinarian duties after his father passed. The attraction rekindles, and this time, they think about doing something about it.

They feel the fire between them each time they meet, and a little bit of fear sparks that attraction. This is a slow-burn; both men are unsure how to approach the other. When Preston finds himself getting a huge surprise that changes his life completely, they agree that for now, they should be only friends.

Once there was a small flame, though they couldn’t stop the fire, and they found themselves wanting to try to date.

There is a huge cast of characters, many of whom are animals, that make the story a lot of fun. There is plenty of lust, some spicy bits, and a good amount of family mischief. This was a fun book, and I can’t wait for the next story in the series where we get to visit the ranch again, if you like a country setting, great, guys, and a lot of fun animals, and a wonderful. This is fantastic. It’s a wonderful, sweet, slow burn that you should read if you want to feel good when you are done.

Some books take a little bit to warm up to, while others let you know pretty much immediately that you're in for a good time. This book definitely is the latter. With an immediate introduction to the kind of quirky characters (man and animal) we were going to get, this book kicks off what is a promising series!

Dean is too busy to date. Which is good, because the man he wants is probably straight--and also turns him into a tongue-tied mess whenever he gets too close. Which is how he has ended up with some of the weirdest (complimentary) animals in the state at his family's farm. Preston, the local vet, is most definitely not straight, and also has a crush on Dean. Which may be why he always is the first one he calls when he has to rehome an unusual animal in the course of his job.

I am a sucker for mutual pining with a side of obliviousness, which this book has in spades. And there is plenty of lighthearted shenanigans from all characters to keep this book lighthearted and hilarious. Basically, if you have liked other series by this author, you are probably going to like this book!

The only thing that kind of bothered me was the obstacle keeping these two from getting together. I won't get into details to avoid spoilers, but it just felt like kind of a weak excuse because one of the characters was scared to take the leap. Additionally, all it really did was stretch out the pining a bit, and it just seemed a little contrived. Otherwise, this is a fun, lighthearted book that made me wish real farms were this fun!

This is book one of the author’s Beaker Brother’s Ranch and features the eldest brother, Dean and his forever crush, Preston, the town’s vet.

I swear, I LOVED this book!!! Normally I’m not the biggest fan of slow burns but, oh my gosh, it was so good I didn’t even care!!! I wish there really WAS a place like Beaker’s Ranch; I promise you, I would literally be there as often as I could afford it. I mean, a MALE mule that thinks he’s a dairy cow and has to be pretend hooked up to a milking machine or he’ll raise hail? Or a llama that sneaks out to take a daily dip in the pool? What about a horse that falls over and plays deceased every time he gets frightened? Can you imagine? But there’s that and so much more…not the least of which are cow cuddles. And they even have MINI HIGHLANDERS!!! HAVE YOU EVEN SEEN ONE OF THOSE??!!! They’re the cutest things I’ve ever seen! There’s even a Nigerian pigmy goat that has to be carried around like a baby or it’ll cry! (Sorry for all the caps and ‼️, this book was just too dang adorable!) Not only that but it’s also sweet and funny and so heartwarmingly perfect…the ideal way to spend a lazy (morning, afternoon, night, weekday, weekend…take your pick), you can’t go wrong whenEVER you read it! Just be sure and pick it up ASAP, you’ll find yourself giggling and awww-ing your way from the first page to the very. Last. Sentence. Just like I did. 5++ stars!!

Home Hearts Hooves is the first book in a new series by Becca Jackson, which is currently set at two books, but I hope she'll decide on more. This story is a sweet second chance romance between Preston, the town vet, and Dean, eldest son of the Beaker family. Ten years ago, they'd nearly kissed when Dean tried to comfort a broken hearted and very drunk Preston. Neither has forgotten that almost kiss and there's a bit of "What if I had...." and pining over it. Stuck in a small barn with a calving cow, in a storm, the two share a kiss and a bit more. Then Preston runs.
There's a lot of that in this story. Steamy moment and then one or the other panics and steps back. Thankfully this is only several chapters long. Preston finds out his ex had a baby, and he has a 10 daughter and that lends more relationship hesitancy. There's a lot of sizzle between the two, and thank goodness for pushy, supportive family. The two would still be dancing around each other otherwise. Lots of sweet and crazy animals. A goat who won't let Dean put him down, an escape llama that enjoys playing in the pool and lots of cuddles from the ranch cows.
All the characters in the story were absolutely adorable. This was such a fun, quick read. I look forward to more Beaker brothers finding love.

This is the first book in the Beaker Brothers Ranch series. It is a sweet, low angst small town romance. This is the story of Dean and Preston. The two men grew up together but Preston left after graduation to go off and explore the world. Dean stayed on the family farm running the dairy farm. But he and his brother also started to make changes. Cabins, a new pool and an assortment of "quirky" animals that had no other place to go. He has had a crush on Preston for most of his life. He gets tongue tied around him and has no ability to say no when Preston shows up with another animal for the menagerie. Preston is the local vet. He came home to take over the local practice. He is grateful that Dean keeps taking the animals that need a home. He is also grateful that Dean grew up to be a kind and gorgeous man. When they each get out of their own way, they finally manage to go out on a date. This is their story. The book is written well and is easy to read. Watching the relationship slowly develop was fun. The relationship between Dean and his brother will make you smile. I received a complementary advanced review copy of this book from the author and I am voluntarily leaving a review. I look forward to the next book in this series.

Many of us grew up watching the Christmas show, 'The Island of Misfit Toys.'
This could definitely be a version, 'The Ranch of Misfit Animals.'

I grew up on a farm but I honestly never cuddled a cow, though I did sit on a fence and sing to the sheep after I finished my chores. Plus there was the one year when our English shepherd had a litter of puppies, so whenever I sat down I ended up at the bottom of a puppy pile. They especially loved to tug on my hair.

But, back to Becca's story...
A lonely rancher and a soft hearted vet join forces to save as many animals they can.
Lots of the story revolved around watching movies while cuddling cows, a lama who could teach Houdini some tricks, a donkey who thought he was a dairy cow, and a pygmy goat who fell in love with a rancher.
In doing so they bring a community together.

It's inevitable for there to be happy endings at Beaker Brothers Ranch.
It just takes a few accidents, some great home cooking and lots of love, both 2 and 4 legged.

Stop in for lots of laughs and you'll be guaranteed to want to read more from BB's Ranch.

My kind of farm! Full of misfits and lots of cuddles.

These two had such great chemistry, and the premise of the story was a lot of fun and super sweet. And while being touching and sweet, it also had plenty of Becca Jackson’s characteristic humour. There were a number of times I laughed out loud.

I really enjoyed the Vet and Rancher mix, especially with the lifetime of tongue-tied history that they have.

Not only were Dean and Doc extremely likable, all-around good guys, but they are also surrounded by some pretty awesome people. They are also super supportive and loving, but give each other crap too! They're the kind of people who make you excited to read more of the series. You just know this whole series will be your happy palace.

This is my first book by this author and I gave it a try after it came up as a recommended read. I was hooked after reading the blurb - a ranch setting with animal misfits? Some of my favourite ingredients in a book.
On the whole this was a winner for me. Great setting, characters, and did I mention the animals? I want my own Cuddles the Pygmy goat after reading this!
Considering some of the topics in the book it was relatively low angst - the reason why I didn’t give it 5 stars was because I felt that a few issues were unrealistically glossed over and a bit too easily resolved. I don’t want to give any spoilers, but the main “big reveal” seemed to be forgiven surprisingly quickly, despite the odd mention of some lingering anger. The end also felt a bit rushed, with everything wrapped up in the last couple of chapters. However, I enjoyed it enough that I’m pleased to see a book 2 is scheduled for later in the year and I plan to read it when it’s released.

This is a friends to more romance, featuring Dean and Preston, and is book one in the Beaker Brothers Ranch series.

Beaker Brothers Ranch is a farm and animal sanctuary where Dean cares for misfit animals sent by the town vet he secretly loves. With help from a pigmy goat, Dean must be brave and go after his happily ever after.

This story was so flipping cute. I would consider this low and a slow burn, even though they have a hook up early on, because they end up pumping the brakes for a while. These two build a friendship until they start officially dating, and it’s super sweet.

Sweet cowboy romance

I enjoyed this story, though it ended a little abruptly for me. The slow pace throughout was a little slower than I normally read, but written well, so I happily went with it. The pace changed completely at the end and the flip left me not fully satisfied with their relationship. Feel like we know them quite well individually, but had very limited scenes that they were together as a couple - particularly without everyone else present. Another couple of chapters of their relationship and this would have likely given me the depth of relationship development I was after.
Quite a few spelling/grammar errors - more than I've read in any other book this year. Though this hasn't affected my star rating, it is a little distracting to read, especially with unmarked speech or "says" without denoting who says, making me pause to figure it out.
Cleaned up and extended, this would easily be four stars. An author I'll likely keep an eye on.

This is a sweet story, set mostly on a ranch in a small southern town. Dean is in charge of the family dairy ranch. He’s a solid, steady guy, the kind you can count on to run things. Preston is the local vet that looks after both the animals in town and those on the surrounding farms. It’s cute to see these two stumble around each other at times, like they’re teenagers all over again.
Life on the ranch is great too. The work it takes to run a place like that isn’t completely shown, but you get an idea of it. They have a reputation for taking in all the misfit animals no one else wants. There’s the pig that hangs out with the dog, the llama that keeps escaping, and the horse that plays dead. Their “cuddle cove” is full of cows that don’t mind hugs, too.
It’s fun, sweet, and steamy, and I can’t wait for the next in the series.

A uniquely charming book one in a series that will be at the top of my list for more reading. I am already ready for book two, as this first one is so dang good. We all need a Beaker Ranch/Farm in our lives where animals take front and center and their lives are better for being these. Seems hometown Dean cannot say no to taking in animals that the vet (and his long time friend he has had feelings for), Preston brings him. Preston left town to see world but is back and Dean is thrown given his feelings. This is one of those book you want to cuddle up with on a lazy day and simply enjoy the reading. It is a cute romance, but also has enough angst to enhance the book and give the book's plot some depth. I will admit after reading this book I was ready to go to a farm or petting zoo to get my animal fix! I did receive an ARC and leave this honest review.

This is quite a slow burn cowboy romance.

I really enjoyed Dean and Preston. Dean is utterly cute when tongue-tied every time Preston is around. Having a crush since childhood is just too much.

These two are adorable together, they are definitely friends-to-lovers with some complication thrown in mid-book causing Preston to friend-zone their budding relationship again.
There is plenty of chemistry, both guys are really likeable.

I found the middle of the book a bit slow, Preston could have taken his head out of his backside a bit faster.

The book is small-town, a ranch with misfits Dean just can't to say no to taking them in. Cuddles, Chewie and Loki are just perfect secondary characters.
There are also plenty of human secondary characters who add depth.

I look forward to the next Beaker book.

This story is cute, adorable. The characters are wonderful and extremely likeable. With deft writing and incredible scenery, the reader is kept interested and becomes invested. The animals of the Beaker Bros Ranch are less than perfect and have quirky personalities.

Preston is the local town veterinarian. He treats farm animals, in addition to household pets. Dean is a co-owner/partner of Beaker Bros Ranch in Bellerelle, GA. Dean has crushed on Preston since both were young. Both are Bellerelle-born and raised. Their angst is very low level.

I enjoyed this book a lot. It's the first book of the Beaker Bros Ranch. I can't wait for future books. Recommended!

This was such a sweet and a bit comical small town romance. Dean, of Beaker Brothers Ranch, has had a a bit of a crush on Preston, the local vet, since they were children. Preston left town to go to vet school after high school and traveled around the world a bit before returning home to take over his father's vet practice. Dean can never say no to Preston which s why his ranch now has a weird menagerie of animals that no one else would take. Dean and Preston are finally ready to admit that they have feelings for each other when Preston finds out that his old high school girlfriend had his child and never told him. Now he has to figure out how to be a father and manage a romance with Dean. I really loved both MC's and the supporting characters were great. Dean and Preston were so cute together.

I loved this one sooo much – the unconventional farm animals, the way Dean can’t say no to Preston & how he calls him Doc, the way everyone on the farm supports each other. It’s just ALL the sweetness and I couldn’t get enough.

There is a little drama with Preston’s past that was unexpected but it works. Leading to a few extra heartwarming moments for our guys. Not that they need any help! Their friendship developing into something more is *sigh*

Jackson’s newest is a slow-burn, small town romance with all the feels and quirkiness I could want. Like her Love in Play series, it’s not going to be for everyone. But I’m here for every fluffy, feel good moment and I am ready for the next book. Gimme, gimme now!
