Disillusioned by war and prejudice, can this southern belle trust in love?

Claire Crawford is nothing she should be. Put off by the War between the States and her own experience with the slaves on her father’s plantation, she longs for something more. Under the control of her parents, there is not much room for anything but submission. Still, she dares to defy them and reach out to a sharecropper’s family on her father’s land.

The war changed Henry Garrett. And he has plans of going beyond his father’s humble farm. He will do whatever it takes to make those dreams come true. Nothing will stand in his way. Until he meets her. Drawn to the southern belle he would rather despise, he is soon caught up in a situation not of his own making. How much is too much for the one he loves? Dare he sacrifice his dream?

I’m a coffee lovin’, word slinging, clean Historical Romance author whose super power is converting caffeine into novels. I love those odd tidbits of history that are stranger than fiction. That’s what inspires me. Well, that and a good love story.

summary: since i don’t want to write a blurb, basically it was post Civil war about a tenant falling in love with the landowners daughter and their quest to get married:)

rating: 4 ⭐️ honestly was an average but also sweet and refreshing read for me!

review: i’d say the insta-love made it to where you didn’t feel all swoony when it came to the falling in love. it was just a simple story about post- Civil War;) definitely worth the read, less action packed but great for a cozy comforting read💕

content:
1. a lot about slavery/ racial hate and violence
2. injuries and slight violence/ a death
3. kisses and romance;)
4. fear of girl being in danger of physical abuse (doesn’t happen tho)

Just because your family has money, it can’t bring happiness. As she grew up, she began to see the real story of life. Her parents were wealthy and respected but not in her own family. She learned that her best (black friend) was killed by her father because she wanted to leave and marry. But she did not know that until she began teaching children to read etc. she was forbidden to do so There is a happily ever after. It takes a great guy believing in God and facing her father to marry his daughter

An interesting telling of a sad situation. It was a quick, clean novella. It was a fine read.
