Sometimes You Win Sometimes You Learn is a very empowering book written by John C Maxwell. The book is about how when you lose you shouldn’t just lose, you should learn from your mistakes. The author John C Maxwell includes many stories about people who were successful. For example, on page 51 he writes about Gabrielle Douglas, and how she needed to leave her hometown to practice with a good coach for gymnastics. If she hadn’t had left I doubt she would have been in the olympics. This book is compelling, fascinating, and amazing. One quote in this book I think we should live by is, “ When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at actually change.” This means that if we look at everything in a positive way, the things we thought were negative are positive. This goes back to what the book is about, how to turn a loss into a win. This book has changed my way of thinking. I would recommend this book to anyone.

A friendly and approachable personal development book about overcoming setbacks and reframing mindset for teenagers. However, this book should be read by everyone, for the lessons it contains and holds are priceless and invaluable.

A page-turning, organised and insightful read, definitely recommended for anyone who wants a quick but beneficial read on how to organise your life and reframe your mindset to become a better person and live a better life.

LMAOOOO I am such a sucker for self-help books, and my mind was blown when I remembered that kids and adolescents also have self-help books. I thought I'd try it because it's so much easier to process (big words hard. small words easy).

The personal examples chosen will appeal to and connect with teens, though they do make the book a little dated. I had to dust off some older memories when talking about the 2010s Olympians and celebrities.

For the adult reader, there's a lot of stuff in here that you probably already knew, either through experience or intuitively, but it's still nice to have life lessons spelled out and as a reminder. For me, I found the book a good starting point for some very intense journaling leading into a session with my therapist as I tackle the psychological crisis that comes in one's late 20s.

I had to read this book for school. My first thought was 'great. Another boring book for school." But after reading the first two chapters, I kept reading. It's a quick read and very insightful + useful. It gives us such a different point of view of things too which is helpful in understanding how things work.

this is my second book from Maxwell and I can say I always feels enlightened after reading his books. His books gave me confidence I lost. I noted the straight-forward reading so it is very easy for non English speaker to read it and get what he meant in one blink of eye.

I really liked this and can't wait to share this with my students. Maxwell gives great advice, quotes, and stories to go with each chapter. There is also a journaling aspect to have teens look deeper and connect to each chapter.

This book is phenomenal! We read it as a family, and I’m going to re-read it by myself. It is written with teens in mind, but he articulates concepts so succinctly about how to turn losses into learning experiences and that most situations are really about our attitudes in how we approach them.

The advice in this book seems pretty straightforward, but it was timely for me. The journal prompts & exercises within are the best parts. The teen format was also nice to get to the point more succinctly.

Amazing. It is totally mind-changing. I recommend this and the adult version to everyone. Please read. It sounds cheesy, but it's really insightful. I highlighted the mess out of it.

Great for teens, but like most books of its type, it has a lot of lofty talk and not a lot of practical examples. Worth giving to a kid to read, or reading at the same time as them.

A must read for pre-teens up. Maxwell adapts his original "Sometimes you win, sometimes you learn" and provides useful ideas to help teens understand (and learn) from failures and mistakes.

This is also part of a FREE Global Youth Leadership program being offered in 2017.
