From USA Today Bestseller Michelle Major comes the swoony, spicy, laugh-out-loud romance that readers are calling "unputdownable."
I’ve spent my life hiding in the quiet corners of the library. It’s safer surrounded by books where the happily-ever-afters are guaranteed. Real life romance? Not so much.
But apparently, I'm tired of my hermit life because I do something spectacularly stupid and agree to get on stage. In front of people. All to catch my longtime crush's attention.
The only problem? I’d rather hug a grizzly bear than speak in front of a crowd.
Enter Eric Anderson. Hockey legend, walking temptation, and the last person I expect to come to my rescue. His solution? Confidence lessons. His methods? Flirting. Touching. Kissing. I’m supposed to practice being bold, and Eric’s all too happy to teach me.
But somewhere between his panty-melting grin and the way he looks at me like I’m the last cupcake in the bakery, I forget that he’s not the one I’m supposed to want. He makes me feel bolder, braver and dangerously close to falling for the wrong guy.
Now I’m standing center stage in more ways than one. And when you’ve spent your whole life in the shadows, stepping into the light is the scariest thing of all.
USA Today and Top 5 Amazon Bestselling author Michelle Major writes swoon-worthy stories full of heart, heat, and guaranteed happily-ever-afters. When she’s not dreaming up romance, you’ll find her hiking the trails (or avoiding housework) in her home state of Colorado.
My heart just loves this series! Every book makes me fall in love again and again! Someone to Have is book three in the Skylark series and I loved everything about it!
This book follows Taylor, our shy librarian, who has always been seen as shy, awkward, unsure of herself, and feels invisible. If you have not read the previous books in this series, it follows an amazing book club of ladies, who are each completing something off of their bucket list. For Taylor it is getting over her fear of public speaking, so she decides to audition for the community theater program, who just happens to be directed by her crush.
Then there is Eric, our MMC, her brother's best friend and handsome hockey player. Who agrees to coach Taylor through "love lessons" to help her break out of her shell in hopes to gain the attraction of her coach/director. Taylor agrees to tutor Eric's nephew in exchange for these classes but what happens when feelings start to blossom.
What to Expect ❤️Hockey Player/Shy Librarian ❤️Opposites Attract ❤️Brother's best friend ❤️Friends to Lovers ❤️Found Family
I have devoured every single book in this series, and each book just gives me all the feels. This book fit in perfectly with the series and I can't wait to read another book by this amazing author.
Michelle Major is quickly becoming a favorite author for me! After reading SOMEONE TO TEMPT, I was excited to dive back into The Skylark Series. Her characters are beautifully chiseled and her story lines are absolutely captivating. This one did not disappoint! It's complete with swoony moments, a perfect cast of side characters and one heck of a fun time!
As a shy introvert myself, Taylor resonated with me so good! I loved her character hard! When her brother's best friend, hockey player Eric enters the scene, I swooned so hard! I loved their dynamic and all the "lessons" Eric was teaching her. My heart flipped so many times! Michelle Major absolutely captured me with these characters and their spicy moments! If you love a beautifully told friends to lovers, small town romance, you don't want to miss this shy librarian getting her chance with the hot hockey player!
MM knows how to wrote both a series and a love story! Tall, dark, and deep voiced who wears a tool belt. And shows up for the people he cares about. And sees Taylor for who she really is. And growls. I giggled with glee every single time Eric referred to Bryan as Limpd**k, which was a lot. Bumpetey bump down my stairs I fell as my insides turned to mush anytime I thought about Mouthwatering Meatstick Eric! Even Taylor’s oafish family came around although Major needs to give Toby his female equivalent. The ending was so perfect that I have my semi on stand by (necessary for my books) for my move to Skylark! Thanks to the author for the advance copy.
O B S E S S E D with this series. Eric & Taylor grow together beautifully throughout this book, becoming best friends along journey. Eric is the kind of guy you want in your corner, and Taylor is a smart-@$$ bad@$$ FMC! Love love love. Can’t wait for Molly & Chase’s book 😍😭
This story is the third book in The Skylark series. I really enjoyed the book and the series and am ready to move to Skylark! Taylor Maxwell has spent a lifetime being the person everyone assumes she is: awkward, unsure of herself, extremely shy, blends into the background, and is the forgotten Maxwell child. A member of her book club is going through cancer treatment, so the group is supporting her by tackling something on their bucket list. For Taylor, it is getting over her fear of public speaking. To do this, she is auditioning for the community theater production directed by Bryan, someone she has set her sights on. Eric Anderson was a college roommate of Taylor’s brother Toby but has been living in Germany for several years. He is currently in Skylark because his sister is in rehab and he is guardian of his nephew Rhett who is having trouble in school. Eric and Taylor make a pact that Taylor will tutor Rhett, so he can stay on the school hockey team, and Eric will help Taylor win over Bryan. Humor abounds, particularly when Eric refers to Bryan with the nickname he has bestowed upon him. Eric can’t get over the effect Taylor has on him now. In college, he was captain of the hockey team and Taylor’s all-time teenage crush. At that time, he didn’t give Taylor the time of day, but he’s not the Eric that Taylor remembers. He sees something in Taylor that she doesn’t see in herself. Their attraction is real, but can Eric be vulnerable and be in a committed relationship? Can Taylor realize it’s enough to be herself all along regardless of what others say and do, and see that Bryan is not the one for her? You need to read this book to find out if they get a happy ending. This is an Advanced Reader Copy voluntary review in which the opinions are my own.
The Skylark series is turning out to be a wonderful home town series. Michelle Major has once again captured the hate to love genre with the right touch!
I was hooked from the first page when Taylor didn’t want to go into the bar because of her decreased self confidence but once again the Book Club Girls swooped in (Molly & Avah) and took control. Love the foundation of the friendship with the book club ladies.
When she sees Eric and the reminder of her young days at the hockey rink all the memories of her insecurities as a young girl on the sidelines set the book up for the start of the story….
Taylor and Eric have a connection the minute they look each other in the eyes at the bar…which is the basis of the storyline.
I really like Eric’s personality and Taylor’s spunk even with her decreased self confidence…right away she feels the tension between her and Eric and I love that she starts with a tough facade but eventually “has” to go with her physical responses because of the basic attraction.
Eric & Taylor continue to be thrown into situations that put them together. Her strengths come thru as the story continues despite her anxiety and lack of confidence.
If you loved the support characters in the other 2 Skylark book series you will once again love the girls of the book club and the people on Eric and Taylor’s personal circles.
This book was one I couldn’t put down and loved both the characters and the support cast. Someone To Have is a winner in my book and one that I would definitely recommend. If you enjoy her style of writing you will not be disappointed.
I LOVE Skylark. It is so hard to put these books down but you just want to stay in skylark a little longer ❤️
Book 3 is the story of Taylor and Eric. Taylor is a quiet librarian that feels like the black sheep of her family and Eric is a professional hockey player on leave to help out his family. It’s Taylor’s turn in the book club to meet her bucket list item which creates an agreement between Eric and Taylor as they both need each other’s help. In the end they find so much more than they thought possible.
The banter not only between Taylor and Eric but the rest of the crew is the best, makes me feel so much closer to the characters. I also love the real life situations that are intertwined in each book. Everything is so relatable but builds such a beautiful story.
I’m hoping the end gave us a sneak peek that book 4 is Molly’s turn?! 😘
Eric and Taylor.....Swoon Taylor a bit on the shy introverted side and needs a good shove every once in a while to "get out there and have fun"
Eric easy going hockey legend that everyone knows
as these two lives crossed paths for different reasons multiple times over the years they just never had a romance this is a little bit of a friend's to lover story but almost a whole lot of second Chance romance
Michelle has wrote an award winner here with all the feels that will get you in just the right spot!
Taylor is a shy librarian. She has struggled with her confidence and standing up for herself throughout her life, and books are her solace.
In order to get her crush's attention, Taylor does the last thing she ever thought she would: she agrees to get up on a stage...
Enter Eric: a handsome hockey player and her brother's best friend. Eric offers to coach Taylor through "love lessons." All the fake flirting, touching, and kissing is meant to break through Taylor's shell and help her embrace being bold.
Being the center of attention is difficult for someone like Taylor. Living in the shadows is more her style, and now she's also contending with blossoming feelings for someone that she's not supposed to want...
I love the Skylark series, and this newest installment is the perfect fit! As a shy person myself, I could relate to Taylor quite a bit. Eric was great for her! He truly helped her to become the best version of herself. Reading their love story unfold was such a swoony, entertaining experience.
Absolutely DEVOURED this book in less than 12 hours. Michelle has such an amazing writing ability to get readers to fall in love with her characters. Eric is a former hockey teammate of her brothers who has moved to Skylark to help care for his teenage nephew, and Taylor is a shy librarian who is wanting to check off her bucket list item of getting over her fear of public speaking and having confidence in herself. Enter Eric as her confidence coach where things of course start off platonic/friendly and then advance when they both realize they’re perfect for each other. I absolutely LOVED Taylor’s relationship she made with Eric’s nephew Rhett and his sister Jen, and adored how Eric stood up to Taylor’s family when they weren’t seeing how they joked around was hurting her. But it was also amazing how he created a space for her to stand up for herself to them too and develop her own voice. Michelle smashed it out of the park with Someone to Have 💕
There are so many great things to love about this third installment of the Skylark Series by author Michelle Major. Its a fun, easy read with some great spice to boot. Here are a few of the reasons I enjoyed it so much: 1) I always appreciate a good romance featuring characters that I'd want to hang out with in real life, the residents of Skylark, CO and specifically the book club babes, deliver that consistently.
2)I also really appreciate the inclusion of a supporting character dealing with learning disabilities and how the characters approached helping them.
3) Despite not being a sports junkie, I have always loved hockey and have a thing for hockey players....another bonus that made the spicy scenes even better. This definitely made the book more enjoyable but its still not what I loved best about it.
Taylor & Eric's story appealed to me the most because it explored how hard it is to constantly be measured by things in your past or even by a stereotype. Its often even more frustrating to get those that know and love us to understand that we aren't always the same people we were when we were younger (especially when they think they have our best interests at heart). Taylor and Eric both struggle with this in very different ways and its also what brings them together as they truly see each other. I won't get into specifics because..... spoilers, so pick up a copy yourself you won't be disappointed.
The copy of the book I received was an ARC. I have volunteered to write this review because I truly enjoyed the story.
Someone to Have is book three in the Skylark series and is the story of Taylor. This is a brother's best friend, small town, close proximity romance.
Taylor is the quiet baby sister of the boisterous Maxwell family, a family full of athletes, she is a shy librarian who prefers to stay invisible and keep to herself. Eric is the best friend of her older brother, a hot hockey player with a playboy reputation. Although they haven't seen one another in over a decade, Taylor assumes Eric is just like all the other hockey players she knows. But Taylor does not know that Eric is not that man anymore and has responsibilities she has no clue about.
As a part of completing a bucket list, Taylor decides to conquer her fear of public speaking and audition for a play so she can hopefully catch the eye of the English teacher at their school she has had a crush on. Eric has a proposition for her, help his nephew with school and he will help her gain confidence in public speaking and more. Somewhere between the confidence lessons, the kisses and looking at Taylor like she hung the moon, both might have gone way past the lessons they started to learn.
You could feel the connection between Taylor and Eric from their first meeting and even as much as they tried to fight it, the way the chemistry was written, there was no denying it. I enjoyed the little moments they shared together and the spicy scenes were so good. Eric was there for Taylor during her anxiety attack and was the strength she needed, even when she didn't want to admit it. The storyline with Eric's sister and nephew was well written and it showed emotional depth for all of the characters and just solidifies my love for Michelle's writing. The entire book is well rounded, emotional, steamy and has a very sweet, on brand for Taylor HEA.
I received an ARC from the author and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
Michelle - apart from being the sweetest human ever - is a magician when it comes to telling a story and she sprinkled this one with some extra pixie dust.
Taylor has always been the quiet bookish one in her sports crazy family, so when her brothers friend (and professional hockey player Eric) moved in across the hall she thinks he is exactly like the rest of them. Picking her challenge of facing her fears of public speaking, Taylor signs up for for community theatre and enlists Eric’s help to be her confidence coach as this is an area he is abundant in. Eric is in Skylark facing his own family issues and taking care of his nephew Rhett, but Taylor is showing him that maybe he has more to live for than hockey.
Sadie and Ian (Book 1) have been my favourite until Hockey God Eric Anderson walked in and was like I got this. Eric is a very reformed playboy who is trying to get everyone to see who he truly is now. Taking on Rhett and helping his sister is huge undertaking but he does it with such grace and ease even when he feels out of his depth. I loved that he was taken down by little librarian Taylor (like boy is obsessed). The way he takes care of her in her low moments as well as her high ones really shone through. Don’t get me started on the epilogue because good lord he made me swoon.
I loved Taylor!! She came off as quiet and bookish but she really had a funny, sarcastic underbelly that Eric brought out in her. She was the sunshine that Eric and Rhett needed, especially lending them both support physically and emotionally, even when she was dealing with her own issues. I was so happy to see the confidence Eric instilled in her to set her boundaries and let her heart see what she truly wanted (no limpdicks allowed)
Skylark is such a great series with a unique premise that runs through each book seamlessly, but Eric and Taylor have taken the crown for top spot!
I absolutely adore Michelle Major and this series and really just everything about Skylark.
Everything bout these stories and characters is so heartwarming and captivating and I just can’t get enough. I absolutely devoured this one and fell immediately in love with Eric and Taylor.
It’s safe to say Book #3 of the Skylark series has taken the top spot for this reader.
Taylor was a character I felt I identified with on such a deep level, with so many feelings and reservations I personally face on the daily and having Eric help her on this journey to overcome, and outgrow these with such tenderness and patience was just glorious. Executed in the most beautiful, respectful way. Speaking of Eric .. a man that can COOK? Need I say more! … If it isn’t clear : YES I am obsessed with these two 😍
There really was very little to fault in this story. Great banter and a good few laughs out loud moments. A perfect nickname (idk why but for some reason this one just does it for me)
A cutesy, cozy feel good read that will have you kicking your feet like the girl you were in highschool…
IF YOU HAVEN’T READ THIS SERIES YET .. WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?
Highly Recommend.
Thank you so much Michelle for the ARC and the opportunity to continue to be a part of this journey! I’ve been a fan since Book 1 and I can’t wait to see what happens next in Skylark!
I thought I loved the first two books in the Skylark series. But I LOVE Taylor and Eric. Quiet, easy going Taylor who is always overlooked and minimized so she doesn't overshadow anyone in her family. And Eric who has hidden away from his family in the European hockey league for the last decade cause he thinks he won't get his heart broken or has anything to offer his family.
I love the insta love and protectiveness from Eric. It was so sweet to watch his attention let her come out of her shell, and how he slowly built up Taylor so she was able to stand on her own and shine. And Taylor let him work through the ideas that he had more to offer, that he could give his heart to the right person and they would take care of it. It was a beautiful story that kept me engaged to the end!! I can't wait to see their happily ever after continue to play out in the rest of the series!
I LOVE this story. And i can't wait for the next Skylark book!
Thank you Michelle Major for the ARC of this book!
🩷reformed playboy 🩷quiet librarian x hockey star 🩷brother's best friend 🩷opposites attract 🩷friends to lovers 🩷sports romance 🩷small town
I am loving this series, its small town charm, the characters, and the book club babes. The books are fun and easy to read; they have all been close to one sitting reads.
Taylor is easy to relate to; we all have that one fear that will test us. In her case, it was a past event, and she is still haunted by it. But in order to fulfill a bucket list item, in a challenge from a friend, and in an attempt to get someone to notice her, she plans to get back on stage. She never wants to be the center of attention.
Eric is the brother’s best friend, handsome, playboy, hockey player. Yes, he agrees to help her get her crush, and yes, this will backfire, but getting there is so much fun!
A perfect addition to the series, Eric brings Taylor out of her comfort zone and stands up for her. He builds her confidence, and I love her relationship with Eric’s nephew and sister. I am looking forward to the next book!
Thank you to the Author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.
This book was the perfect cozy, sweet and swoony escape. It was everything I love in a feel good romance, charm, warmth, attraction, laughter and the right amount of emotion that keeps you hooked until the end. Beautifully written and a wonderful adventure watching Eric and Taylor fall for each other and in love. A heartwarming, uplifting read that will make you fall in love with small town Skylark. I loved it!
This story about rethinking your long-held (and often incorrect) beliefs about yourself and Mr. Wrong becoming Mr. Right is my favorite Michelle Major book yet! This book does a great job of weaving together humor, steamy scenes, and good feels.
One of the things I’ve loved about this series is that the characters are very relatable, and the same is true of Taylor in this one. Her family nickname and how she hates it while everyone else thinks it’s great took me straight back to my childhood (I would argue that “Pork Butt” is worse than “Tink”). Thankfully, the bucket list challenge helps Taylor finally see in herself what her friends and family have seen all along.
This book had me hooked during the first few pages. I couldn't put the book down. Oh, I don't want to give spoilers,so I'm going to say it's a must-read. you won't be disappointed.
It was so much sweet moment so much bad that I just fell in love. I really enjoyed this one and of course she does it again and I cannot wait for the next one. I already have an idea on who it’s gonna be. I am so excited. Every book she’s wrote that I’ve read has been amazing and kept me books that I had to read it in 24 hours.
💫 Charming, sweet, and hot brother's best friend, small town romance 💫
Michelle Major has a way of creating relatable characters and storylines that draw you in, making it so you don't want the story to end. She's one of my go-to authors because I know I'll love and devour every book like candy.
Taylor is a quiet and shy librarian who feels lost amid her boisterous, athletic-focused family. Committed to checking performing on stage off her bucket list and to getting noticed by her crush, she's determined to gain the self-confidence needed to tackle these things.
Enter Eric Anderson, her brother's best friend and a European pro hockey player, who has temporarily moved to town to care for his nephew while his sister focuses on getting her life together. Drawn to Taylor, Eric wants to take care of her and build her up. He suggests that she needs a confidence coach, and he’s the ideal person for the job.
"You're a librarian smokeshow." "Not even close. By literal definition, a smokeshow is someone so hot she has smoke coming off her." "I said what I said, Tink. But you have to believe you're a smokeshow. If you can't get there on your own, that's where I come in. I can make you believe."
Taylor, on the other hand, after being surrounded by athletes her whole life, wants nothing to do with them.
Athletes aren’t my type, I mentally remind myself. Then I duck as my hormones reach out to bitch slap me.
If you like a MMC who lifts the FMC up and puts her wants and needs first, Eric is your man. He cooks for her, listens to her, and is her personal cheerleader, letting her know that she is more than good enough.
These domestic god vibes are sending my ovaries into overdrive.
“There are cookies?” “You want my cookies, sweetheart?” “I don’t want your cookies. But I wouldn’t say no to a cookie.”
Eric, who radiates self-assurance, lacks it when it comes to caring for his nephew and believing that what’s developing between him and Taylor can be more than a fling. Taylor supports and cheers him on with his nephew, but will he find the confidence to pursue his desire to be more to Taylor than a short-term fling?
While I've never considered myself possessive, it’s going to kill me to let her go.
If I were going to choose a bucket list challenge, it would be believing I'm capable of being the man Taylor deserves at her side.
Tropes & Themes:
• Brother's best friend • Dual POV • Reformed player • Small town romance • Opposites attract • Found family • Friends to Lovers • Anxiety & self confidence
In Someone to Have, the third book of Michelle Majors’ Skylark series, we find Taylor, a woefully insecure librarian, and Eric, a pro hockey player, coming together in unexpected ways. Eric, who plays in a European hockey league, is currently living in Skylark with his sister’s son, Rhett. The story is told from both Eric and Taylor’s views, chapter by chapter, allowing for some great insight into both characters. It begins with Taylor reluctantly joining her friends and fellow Cool Girls Book Club members, Avah and Molly, at a local bar on a Sunday evening. Taylor immediately regrets her decision even more when she sees her brother there with one of his college friends, Eric. Taylor refers to Eric as a “manwhore” during her conversation with her brother, and things just get more interesting from there. Shortly after, Eric finds himself in the school principal’s office to discuss an incident involving Rhett. Also joining in the discussion are Taylor and one of Rhett’s teachers, Bryan. Taylor has a mad crush on Bryan, and it’s fairly evident to Eric. The meeting ends with Taylor offering to have Rhett do some volunteer work at the public library with her to atone for his misconduct. Readers of this series will be familiar with the bucket challenge being taken on by the members of the book club, and Taylor has decided that her challenge is to overcome her severe insecurity about public speaking by auditioning for the local community theater production. It doesn’t hurt that Bryan is the director. As the story continues to unfold, the reader will learn about why Taylor is so insecure about herself, why Eric is back in town with Rhett, and how two very diverse paths can converge. Will Taylor make it to opening night unscathed? Will Eric decide to return to his hockey team in Germany? Can Rhett turn things around? All these questions and more will be tantalizingly answered for the reader in this utterly delightful, and sometimes pretty steamy, tale of life in a small town! Thank you to Michelle Majors for giving me the opportunity to read this ARC of Someone to Have!
Taylor was the next one up with the Book Club bucket list challenge to do something that you were scared to do. And for her that was putting herself out there and redeem her worst time and most embarrassing moment in her, being on stage. Her last time out did not go well and she needed to prove to herself, her family and friends that this librarian could do it. What she did not see with this challenge was having a coach in the mix, Eric Anderson hockey superstar and who thinks he can help her with this bucket list challenge. Eric has come back to the town that helped him on his way to giving him his dream of being a hockey star. He may be a God on the ice, but to his sister and nephew he is the savior of the family. He brings his nephew to live and go to school in Skylark and in exchange for helping his nephew, he will help Taylor with her challenge. What neither of them saw with these challenges was what would change both of their lives..
I loved how this story brings the heart of what a small town can do and that his being there when your neighbor needs help. For Taylor and Eric they ignited a spark right from the beginning and brought new meaning to the work "borrowing a cup of sugar". And what warmed my heart was that Eric 'saw' Taylor where others didn't, especially her family. There were lots of moments with humour, laughter and those moments when you could not help a sigh come from your while reading the book. Let's not forget all those moments were the looks Eric gave Taylor that would melt the ice in a snow storm. And those tender moments between a man and a women who get each other. All in al this was a wonderful story to read and you won't want to put it down once you start it. Michelle Major brings us back to Skylark and all the wonderful characters we love about this series. Can't wait to see who's next with their Book Club bucker list challenge.
✨ Hockey Player x Shy Librarian ✨ Brothers Best Friend ✨ Small Town ✨ Reformed Playboy ✨ Found Family
Michelle can write a love story, that is a fact, and this one was my favorite yet. The love I have for this group of women and their book club is something fierce. Taylor has vowed that her bucket list challenge will be facing her fears and public speaking which she struggles with and she is determined to overcome it. Taylor (Tink) is shy, quiet and loves to bury herself in a book, but do not mistake this for meekness, she is a force once she is able to speak up for herself.
Enter Eric who has returned to Skylark to help his sister by stepping up to be the guardian for Rhett (his nephew) while his sister puts her life back together. When it comes to Rhett, Eric is a fish out of water, and this seems way out of his depth. While just trying to do his best to provide stability for Rhett, he realizes he is actually pretty good at it and ends up loving it.
Eric and Taylor have a magnetic chemistry, that neither one of them is willing to admit. When Eric sees that Taylor is really struggling with never quite feeling good enough and always feeling like she doesn’t quite fit in, he makes it his mission to put a stop to it and help her build her confidence all while trying not to fall for her… except you can’t control who you fall in love with. These two were meant for one another and don’t even realize how much they come to rely on one another until it is too late.
My absolute favorite part of this book was the banter…it DID NOT DISAPPOINT! From wanting each other’s cookies (or not wanting) and numerous references to limpdicks the humor was top notch.
The entire Skylark series chefs kiss, but this one was definitely my favorite book yet. Michelle never disappoints and is now an auto-read author for me. I cannot recommend this book enough!
Taylor Maxwell is the forgotten Maxwell child because she isn’t into sports like her siblings. She is more the quiet, librarian, awkward, stay out of the limelight type of person and unfortunately has had lifetime of teasing from not only her siblings but others because of some events that have occurred. The book club she is a member of has made a promise to one of their members who is getting cancer treatment…conquer something on your bucket list! For Taylor it is a combination of things, the main one though is getting over her fear of public speaking. She decides to try out for a part in the play the local community is putting on plus Bryan who she has a “crush” on is the producer of it. Through some circumstances that presented themselves, she is offered help by her brother’s college friend Eric Anderson to get over the fear and get the guy. The problem is while she is getting over the fear, the guy she is falling for isn’t the producer, it is the one helping her. Can they figure it out together and realize that maybe her leading man needs to be Eric or will he hit the road back to Europe to play hockey as soon as his sister is out of rehab and he no longer is the guardian of his nephew Rhett. There is no denying the chemistry between them at all, but are both willing take a chance.
This book is next in the Skylark series by Michelle Major and I LOVED it. Okay there were sometimes when I wanted to reach through the pages and maybe smack a few people upside the head because of the way they talked to and treated Taylor. I don’t think they truly realized how much bullying they were doing at all. Luckily it all comes together in the end and I can’t wait to see where this will be heading next.
Thanks to the author and the publisher for an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
Sometimes a book really hits home. You can relate to a character. You can feel how they're feeling because you've felt that way or are feeling that way. I can relate to Taylor. I know how it feels to be the cheerleader and encourager for everyone while wondering where your encourager/cheerleader is. It's fine. I'm quiet...I don't ask for much...if anything....I'm easy to overlook. I don't necessarily stand up for myself as much as I do for others....then wonder who stands up for me.... I see you Taylor. I'm really happy she found her encourager....Eric is precious. He's ready to pounce on anyone who dares to sell her short. There are no limits to what he thinks she's capable of....it's beautiful. She can't see herself taking a step and he's already seen her on the moon. He wants everything for her. I don't like how her family talks to and about her. I hate the way her friends doubt that she can follow through with her bucket list item. I despise the way they continually ask, "Are you sure?". I get that they want to protect her, but sometimes we need a push...a nudge. In Taylor's case that's what Eric did for her. I loved the story. It hurt my heart (because I know how she felt) and it healed my heart because I love the idea of the happy ending...even if it's not in the card for those of us in the real world. Thank you Michelle Major for the break from reality and the wonderful story. This is one of those series where every book hits differently and where each book is (in its own way) better than the ones before it. One of those series where you see yourself as a character and maybe your friends as others. Highly relatable. Definitely a reread. I wouldn't be surprised if I end up adding the extra star in the near future!
FMC: Taylor Maxwell MMC: Eric Anderson Spice: 🌶️🌶️.5 Pages: 318 Tropes: Small Town Romance, Opposites Attract, Brother’s Best Friend, Reformed Playboy, Neighbors to Lovers, Friends to Lovers, Secret Relationship Setting: Skylark, Colorado
Thoughts: My major complaint with this book was Taylor’s musings about Bryan continuing too long. It was obvious he wasn’t a good guy and I’m not sure why she didn’t see it. I felt like her crush should have ended in the Principal’s office that happened well before the 25% mark, but it continued even after she started sleeping with Erica and was denying her feelings. Despite that, I did end up liking the book. I found myself relating to Taylor on so many levels. As a people pleasing, wallflower, I’m still looking for the person who will drag me out of my shell, but I love the hope her character inspires. I really liked how supportive Eric was and loved that he showed Taylor his feelings through actions, although it probably would have helped if he had vocalized them as well. His relationship with his nephew, Rhett, made me like him even more. He just wanted the best for his sister and nephew and felt so much guilt over being away for so long. I liked the way that relationship led to a deeper relationship with Taylor. She took Rhett under her wing and showed Rhett that all adults weren’t prone to dismissing kids. I really disliked Taylor’s family. Her dad and sister came around in the end by her brother was a thoughtless jerk. I liked the bookclub and the underlying plot with Sloane and her bucket list challenge. I cannot wait for Molly and Chase, I have been dying for their story since the first book, which is admittedly not that long, but I cannot resist a grumpy, injured cowboy.
I love this series. Sometimes as the series moves along, it gets boring and or repetitive. That is not the case here in any way. Taylor loves the peace and quiet of reading. The ability to allow her to go anywhere, be anything while never leaving the comfort of her home. Getting to share her passion with others as her chosen career brings her much joy. She is painfully shy, has very little self-confidence (closer to none to be honest), can seemingly find the corner in a round room, and without her BFFS to pull her out of her book and into the world would very likely be a hermit! When one of her BFF’s is going through cancer treatment, they all decide to do something together and out of their collective comfort zones (mostly Taylors) and pick an item from Along with her friends, they all decide to tackle items from their respective bucket lists. Taylor does the unthinkable and auditions for a play to cross off her fear of public speaking. It doesn’t hurt that she is attracted to Bryan, the director. Two birds maybe ? Enter Eric and let the games begin. It’s sweet, funny, emotional, emotional, about personal growth, recognizing what’s right in front of you and giving yourself permission to be comfortable with yourself. I loved the people, the town and the story.
I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.
Smalltown love always finds a way! With the third book in her Skylark series, Michelle Major is bringing this town and it's residents to life one hookup at a time. This particular story has a brother's best friend/unrequited crush trope as the book group bucket list promise continues to play out with another member. The characters are both easy to like and have a rich back story. I enjoyed the addition of his nephew Rhett into the storyline a lot. Easy to follow, well developed and lots of sentimentality in family and friends taking part in their lives. The ending was a bit rushed, but I enjoyed them so much overall. I can't wait for more to come in the series!
Eric was my favorite character. I loved his kind heart and his loyalty to his sister even through hard times. His friendship with Toby was real and don't even get me started on the love he poured out for his nephew with all the little things he did. He was just a really down-to-earth, caring man and I enjoyed him being who Taylor got to begin a life with.
I highly recommend this book as well as the entire series to anyone who enjoys a smalltown with a quirky cast of characters who interfere and love hard in each other's lives.
