The age old craft of soapmaking is easy using today's techniques. More than 50 hand-milled soap recipes are included in this book, giving the reader every step of the process, from choosing equipment to creating fancy forms and scents.
Cinnamon in soap? Peppermint in dog shampoo? Some of the recipes in this book are ok but the suggestions for spice add ins will cause skin irritation. And peppermint in dog products when peppermint essential oil is toxic to dogs is a horrible idea.
I have been wanting to try to make my own soap for a very long time and now I finally did! I made the basic white soap. It was the first recipe of the cold-pressed process section. I will continue to try the other recipes in this book as time permits, but thus far, really like this book and would recommend it to any one who is a beginner soap-maker. Or for someone who is looking for a new hobby or challenge, this is a great book to start with.
Good selection of inspiring recipes. I am disappointed that so many of the recipes rely on tallow; however, I appreciate the traditional nature of the recipes. I am wary about how the author has listed ingredients such as 'blended vegetable oil' which could lead the novice soapmaker into dangerously caustic territory. A decent reference, but there are better ones out there.
A great little book for beginner soapmakers, I would recommend this one. So many different, fun, unique recipes to try! Also includes pretty pictures and a troubleshooting guide.
