After JK Rowling created Harry Potter, there were a few other authors, who didn't write cringe-inducing teenage romances, but creative adventure stories such as Rick Riordan or Eoin Colfer.

The Artemis Fowl series is about a criminal genius, who is only twelve years old. To save the family fortune he looks for the hidden fairy world. The fairies have retreated towards the earth's core to hide from humans. And their world is a mixture of magic, sci-fi, and steampunk.

This omnibus contains the first four novels:
1. Artemis Fowl, in which he finds the fairies and wishes to use their rules against them to blackmail them.
2. The Arctic Incident, where he asks their aid in rescuing his father and ends up helping them with their problems as well.
3. The Eternity Code, when he develops a super-computer based on fairy technology, which gets stolen thus endangering the entire fairy world.
4. The Opal Deception, in which villainess Opal blames Artemis contact in the fairy world, Holly, for the murder of her superior. Only Artemis can help her solve this. The only problem is that after the events of the third book his memory was erased.

The worldbuilding in Artemis Fowl is very creative, almost at Rowling level. Where Colfer actually surpasses Rowling is character development. The evolving relationship between the humans and fairy characters, but also Artemis growth are very well done. In the Harry Potter books, the characters didn't evolve over time but remained stagnant.

Since every other character is a genius, the stories suffer from the usual problems in depicting people of way above average intelligence. Sometimes you wonder why someone so smart can make such stupid mistakes, on the other hand, it is more realistic then them making mistakes at all.

Overall, I enjoyed all of them. My favorite was the second. While I liked the third, I thought that its premise was a little ludicrous. Aside from that, the characters are likable, especially Mulch. I look forward to reading the rest.

Danger is upon the 13-year-old criminal mastermind, Artemis fowl. ARTEMIS FOWL THE ETERNITY CODE by Eoin Colfer. This Book is about betrayal, because Artemis will get betrayed and will betray people.

Artemis made a cube which is something the world has never laid its eyes on before, and while Artemis was trying to trade the Cube, he gets betrayed. Later on, one of Artemis's moles in the betrayer's ground tells Artemis that the betrayer is going to use Artemis and try to betray Artemis furthermore, so Artemis sets up a plan to backstab the betrayer. Also, some main points in the book are when Artemis gets betrayed, Artemis’s mole tells him the betrayers plan, Artemis backstabbing the betrayer, Artemis's dad coming home, and Artemis going to boarding school.

This book could appeal to anyone who likes action and likes to read fiction and fantasy books. There are some strengths to the author, one is that this author has done multiple different book series, and they are all really good. A good strength about this book too is that you can feel like you're in the action almost when reading it. There are also some weaknesses of the author, one is that he does different age group books, which could lead some of the higher-level reading books to sound like children's books or adult books, and a weakness about the book is how some people might think it has too much to do with fantasy.

My overall opinion of this book is that it is super good and can keep your mind off doing things that you don't need to be doing, and can keep you entertained for days reading it. Will Artemis get away and avoid the danger or will he go straight through it, and go against it?

Absolutely love this series of books (Though I didn't rate the film at all) I read it back in 2001 & still read it 19 years later & each time they make me laugh out loud/roll around the floor giggling like a 2 year old :-)
A 12 year old mastermind/criminal who takes on fairies who could ask for anything more? It's a witty, & exciting set of stories with lovable but slightly flawed characters (Which makes me love them even more) Suitable for ages from 10 years +

«There was a human youth beside the rockery. In his apartment! The boy’s appearance was strange, even by Mud Man standards. He was abnormally pale, raven-haired, slender and dressed in a school uniform that looked as though it had been dragged across two continents.»

Loved the characters and story! It was a little hard reading about a child genius, knowing that I would never get close to Artemis’s level of intelligence, but it was fun nonetheless.
