Fact or fiction: becoming a lumberjack and marrying your best friend so she can inherit her family business is a great idea.
When Addison “Roe” Monroe tells me she’s going on a husband hunt at the local lumberjack competition so she can inherit her father’s lumberyard, I think she has finally lost her mind.
But my stubborn friend, who would rather drive a forklift than get her nails done, refused my first marriage offer. And since I can’t stomach watching Roe hitch her wagon to some hulking ax wielder who might be a serial killer, I decide that desperate times require desperate measures.
Call me Lumberjack Luke.
I’ll do whatever it takes to get her to accept my proposal because she’s more than just a friend. And the way she looks back at me? I think she knows it.
On the surface, I’m offering a marriage of convenience to protect her. But the truth is…I’m hopelessly in love with my best friend.
Marrying her and moving her up to Fletcher Mountain might mean I’ve lost my mind too, but so be it.
Because the only thing I would regret more, is never trying.
Number 1 Amazon Bestselling author Amy Daws writes spicy love stories that take place in America, as well as across the pond. She's most known for her footy-playing Harris Brothers and writing in a tire shop waiting room. When Amy is not writing, she’s likely making charcuterie boards from her home in South Dakota where she lives with her daughter and husband.
I’m genuinely curious, why can’t authors add depth to their characters without giving them a boatload of trauma? I’m all for interesting pasts and real characters, but at this point, I’m getting pretty fed up with all the trauma that ultimately feels forced.
Besides that, I did really connect with Addison on many levels. I have the same muscular build as her, and we’re both proud members of the itty bitty titty committee. We both love to cook for our loved ones and we’re both badass girl bosses. I loved this book not for Luke, but for Addison. Her character was scarily like me.
I love found family, but only if it’s done well and isn’t being shoved in my face every second of the book. This was the perfect balance of found family and it felt so wholesome and natural.
I don’t have a ton of criticism for this book, it was cute and pretty standard for a romance book. Didn’t love all the trauma, but I guess we can’t have it all 🤷🏻♀️
Big thank you to Harlequin Trade Publishing | Canary Street Press and NetGalley for the Advanced Reading Copy!
Luke Fletcher, the man that you are! This book was full of fun and so much heart! ❤️
Honeymoon Phase took the best of the Fletcher family from the previous books and lays it all out on the table. Mommy issues fear the name of Mama Fletcher. 🥹 Addison and Luke had a lot of emotional stuff in their pasts that made their journey together so sweet! The way the relationship slowly progresses as they realize just how much they care about each other was delightful to read about. The pacing was a little choppy at the beginning with the lumberjack competition, but it quickly hit its stride. I definitely think this is my favorite in the series so far! And after the sneak peak of Everly’s POV, I’m even more ready for her book!
As always, Amy Daws knows how to write witty banter and broody mountain men. 🤭
*I’ve been needing something fluffy and fun, and look what slid into my inbox! 😚*
I felt like Addie came across as childish. She picked out only the pieces she wanted from the conversations she overheard or saw and ignored the larger context.
I understand acting out of emotion or feeling blindsided, but this is someone she has known for YEARS — at the very least, he deserved the benefit of the doubt. Even when the whole situation with M was explained to her, instead of responding with any sympathy, she focused only on the part that affected her personally.
Honeymoon Phase by Amy Daws Mountain Men Matchmaker series #3. Romance. Friends to lovers. Marriage of convenience. Can be read as a stand-alone but better as part of the series. Addison “Roe” Monroe has worked at her father’s lumberyard her entire life. But instead of inheriting the company, he intends to sell it unless she gets married. She’s ignored a letter from her best friend Luke Fletcher with an offer of marriage knowing she’d fall for him and would be devastated when the planned divorce goes through. So she’s still searching for the right candidate. Maybe she can find someone willing to marry her at the lumberjack competition? Luke has been in lust with Roe since the first time he saw her. Maybe it’s more than lust? He’s not going to let her marry someone else. It’s time he learn how to run up that tree to win his woman.
🎧 I listened to an audiobook version of this book. The narration is in DUET format (my favorite!) by Teddy Hamilton and Erin Mallon. Chapters are in alternating POV’s with the narrators crossing over for conversations between the main characters. These two narrators are fantastic and bring Roe and Luke to vivid life. Emotionally rich and clear secondary characters make this a joy to listen to.
Love this series. So much romance, sexy times, family closeness and honorable ethics.
I received the audiobook copy from NetGalley and Harlequin Audio. I also purchased a paperback copy to keep and reread.
The Mountain Men are back, and this time, Everly has her sights on matchmaking her uncle, Luke. Luke has always had feelings for his best friend, Roe, and when Roe needs to marry to inherit her father's lumberyard, Luke doesn't hesitate to step in. Now, as they settle into life together on Fletcher's mountain and plan a winter wedding, Luke's affection for Roe only deepens—and soon, he suspects she may feel the same.
Honeymoon Phase is my favorite book in this series. I loved the dynamics of Luke and Roe and the tension that builds throughout this book as they both realize they have feelings for each other. I also enjoyed seeing the characters from the previous books and how they progressed in their relationships. Teddy Hamilton and Erin Mallon do a fantastic job in the dual narration and truly take this fantastic romance to a whole new level. The Mountain Men may have all found love, but the series is not over. I am excited to see our own Everly get her own story in the next installment.
Honeymoon Phase is out November 11th.
Thank you to NetGalley, Harlequin Audio, and Harlequin Trade Publishing for the opportunity to review Honeymoon Phase. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
A lumberjack competition where a group of men compete in manly tasks, to determine which one of them is the manliest of all, might be the most terrifying thing I have ever heard of. Actually, no, the most terrifying thing is someone going there to find a husband. 3.5 stars.
You might enjoy if you like: - Marriage of convience - best friends to lovers - small town/mountain town vibes
A lot of people really adore this sort of book, so I wanted to try it out. In the end, I thought it was somewhere in between decent and good. I wasn't in love with it, but I also wouldn't hate on it. There is a lot of masculinity going on here. and there is also a lot of that “white picket fence” vibe. Unfortunately, neither of these things align with my own personal reading taste. I think this will make it appeal to a lot of other readers though. It just wasn’t my cup of tea, and since it was such a big part of this, it made it a bit difficult for me to get into.
With this being said, I think the plot was pretty solid, so I did enjoy the overall idea. I think best friends to lovers is one of the best tropes, so it’s pretty hard to go wrong there. Seeing Luke and Addison, who already have such a strong connection to each other, grow their relatsionship, and having it bloom into something even more special is so nice.
I thought both of these characters were good, and I didn’t see any particular problems with them individually, or as a couple. Though, I also feel like I didn’t really connect with either of them on a deep level. I did however feel for Addison, for a few reasons. One being her childhood trauma, and the abandonment issues she developed after the experiences she had with her mother. The second being the amount of sexism she endured living and working in the male-dominated environment that she was in. I think these things make her an easy character to root for her to get a happy ending.
This is I believe the third book in a series. It is a standalone though, so reading the previous books aren’t required. I’m not positive, but I think the characters overlap across each book- so it might be nice to read all of them to get some background on the side characters.
Overall, it is a good story, with a nicely thought-out plot. I think a lot of it just doesn’t align with some of my personal reading taste, so I didn’t enjoy it as much as some others probably would.
Thank you to Netgalley, Harlequin Trade Publishing | Canary Street Press and author Amy Daws, for providing me with the eARC of “Honeymoon Phase” in exchange for my honest review! Publication date: November 11, 2025
I have not read either of the other books in this series so I was going in blind a little bit but I had a lot of fun. This was surprisingly heartfelt and I really appreciated their connection over tough topics.
Addison and Luke are friends turned husband and wife when Addison needs to be married for one year to be able to take over her father’s lumber yard. Luke, secretly crushing on her for years, offers himself as tribute after pining for her. They decide to move forward as married friends. As time moves on, they begin to fall for each other but their individual scheming catches up with them.
Thank you to NetGalley and Harlequin for the copy in exchange for an honest review.
I started this series at the end! Now I have to go back and read books 1 & 2, but this book did a really good job of setting up my interest for book #4!
I won't lie to you, I really struggled liking Roe. I was trying really hard not to judge her, as I myself am a philophobic, but she was making it really hard. You can't say you don't want a real husband and then get jealous... My mind plays tricks on me like this too… but damn girl. I know she’s hurting and she has a lot to work on. I try to remember, it wasn’t that long ago when I felt exactly the same fears. So, I’m giving her character a bit of grace.
The sex scenes had me BLUSHING! WOW!
Thank you to NetGalley, Harlequin Audio, and Harlequin Publishing for the opportunity to listen and read the ALC and ARC in return for my honest review.
Tropes: 💜marriage of convenience 💜friends to lovers 💜philophobia 💜rustic mountain man 💜grief and loss

OMG! So glad I found this author 😊 This was my first book by her and I can already tell it will NOT be the last one. I listened to the audio. First - the narrators. PERFECTION! I mean…who doesn’t like Teddy Hamilton and Erin Mallon? They can read me a car manual and I’ll be mesmerized. Second - the plot. It moved at a great pace and it’s just ideal for winter/holiday time. I chuckled from the first chapter. There are plenty of fun, emotional, and spicy parts. Exactly what I’m looking for in a rom-com. Don’t even hesitate and get the audio for sure!
OMG! I love the Fletcher Brothers so much! The Honeymoon Phase is the third book in Amy Daws Mountain Man Matchmaker series, and it is Luke and Addison’s story. This is a friend to lovers, slow burn where he falls fast and hard first. Luke is the youngest of the brothers' very golden retriever personality, so sweet, caring and shy. I loved him so much and he really turns it up when it comes to his lady. Addison is one tough lady, very caring and shows it with her cooking. I just really wanted a ton of sourdough bread while reading this book, it sounded so yummy! She also struggled with a difficult family past and trauma, and Luke 100% had her back. They were great characters and don’t get me started on the lumberjack competition. It was so fun and all the sexy rugged men and you don’t read about this kind of sport often. This book I found a bit more on the series and emotional side then the other two, but still, plenty of humor and fun. If you are interested in this book please check for trigger warnings, I highly recommend this book, loved it! I received and advance ebook, via Netgalley. This review is my own honest opinion.
4.25 stars - thank you to Harlequin Audio for the ALC and Canary Street Press HTP for the ARC. These are my honest thoughts.
a best friends, marriage of convenience story where Luke has been in love with his best friend, Roe, since he literally met her? And he becomes a lumberjack in order to convince her that HE can be her fake (or REAL?) husband, in order for her to inherit the family business? BUT ALL ALONG he was plotting to win her heart before their marriage of convenience expires? SIGN ME UP.
I REALLY enjoyed this story. Luke was possibly my favorite mountain man, with his cock for a pet... as in, his rooster. And his desire to love his best friend to the BEST of his ability, and therefore not making a move to ruin the friendship too soon was just too sweet. Then, moving Roe into his house and taking care of her when the world felt too heavy. When she was up all night long baking bread for everyone and he forces her to rest... that was literally the sweetest part of the whole book. I love that they make each other laugh and how hard Luke worked to earn his place as Roe's husband.
Amy Daws writes silly and fun stories with depth and deeply emotionally things happening in her characters lives, and I deeply appreciate that as a reader. Teddy Hamilton and Erin Mallon are once again fantastic in this series as narrators. I laugh and I cry with them, all within seconds of each other sometimes. It's special to listen to a story that makes you feel both ways. Can't wait for Everly's story + the uncles' revenge (I hope lol).
10/5 ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ (Huge thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for sending me this ARC)
I'm a mess, I'm unwell, my eyes are wet, my heart is melted, and my smile is wide 😭 and I swear if I see any bad reviews for this book, I'll take it personally!!!
It was soooo good! I never expected a third book in the series about mountain man to become my number 1 favorite romance ever! I'm not even kidding! Soooo refreshing to see all the yearning from the seemingly brutal man (who's a cinnamon bun on the inside) and him already in love for years. I would have never thought I'd enjoy friends to lovers so much. This book in general is perfect in everything - strong community of women supporting women, traditional values mixed up with modern choices, wild nature and animals, and inclusion of tough topics like loss, trauma, body image, family etc.
What's even more impressive is that the topics of love, marriage, and relationship in general made me reflect on my own family a lot. Honeymoon Phase managed to stir some parts of my soul I didn't even remember I had anymore...
Every chapter is a special kind of masterpiece, eliciting all sorts of emotions out of me - giggling like a maniac, crying, laughing, or blushing like a teenager (iykyk, miss ma'am Amy Daws, how do you make even a kissing scene so hot?) 🥵 Sweet and gentle Luke ready to do anything for the woman he loves and Addie finally finding her peace with the Fletcher family after all the trauma and years of being the loner, they have the best chemistry, I swear.
P.S. Single ladies, take notes, Luke Fletcher is the best example of what you should settle for! ❤️🔥
4.3 ⭐️ thank you HTP Books and NetGalley for an e-ALC in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts are my own!
🎧 this narration was killer!! The voice actors really gave these characters life and brought this story together in a way that made it 10x more enjoyable than it already was. Perfect pacing, they had great tone and really personified the characters Amy wrote.
📖 Addison, or Roe, is in need of a marriage of convenience so she can inherit her family’s business, and Luke, her best friend, who has been secretly in love with her for years decides he’s going to be the one to marry her.
This book was comically funny, full of trials and tribulations, and had the best tension between the MC’s! Not only was the storyline interesting and engaging, but the lumberjack trials, preparations for a full blow wedding, and creeping feelings all make it that much greater. The pacing felt perfect for the friendship Roe and Luke had, but also settled nicely when they decide to get married and live together. Luke’s family was the icing on the cake and I loved each of his siblings (and his scheming niece) with how caring and excited they were to have Addison join the family.
I will admit, I haven’t read the previous two books in this series, but I will be reading (or listening) to them after being blown away by this one. Regardless, this book was perfectly well written, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a strong FMC on a mission, a golden retriever MMC who falls first, and a marriage of convenience that draws them together in the end!
3.75. The Mountain Men and their matchmaker are back in book three! Addison “Roe” is looking for husband so she can inherit her father’s lumberyard at the local lumberjack competition but her best friend, Luke, thinks he can do a better job of filling that role for her!
I feel like I know these characters at this point lol! Another fun book in this series, I really enjoyed both characters. This family is so cute and I hope there are more books coming!
Teddy Hamilton and Erin Mallon make this series so fun I look forward to the audios every time!!
Thank you so much Netgalley, Amy Daws, and Harlequin Audio for providing this free ALC. This publishes on November 11th. This is my honest review!
Loved this story so much!! Erin Mallon and Teddy Hamilton give heartfelt and powerful performances in the audiobook. They had me laughing one minute and crying the next. I'm always a sucker for a friends-to-lovers story and when he loves her completely, regardless of her grumpiness and constantly pushing him away. I also appreciated that this FMC isn't petite or described as especially feminine. She's stocky. She's strong. She'd a tomboy and works with her hands at a lumberyard. And she's carrying a lot of grief.
Beautiful story and the slow burn between these friends about killed me.
4.75 stars I love the marriage of convenience trope where the guy is in love with the girl first and this was SUCH a good example of that trope. An excellent read with winter vibes perfect for this time of year. So excited to see how this series is going to end!!
I have had an insane week, events every night and full days, and this week is going to be even more packed, so I cancelled my plans today and listened to my book. I did some laundry, scrubbed my grout, baked some bread, did some drawing, and lay around like a lump for a while. This was better than I thought it was going to be, worse than I wanted it to be, and mostly pretty average. That said, this had a stupider than usual premise (which, we are talking fake marriage trope, so the premises are generally going to be pretty darn stupid) and a dozen references to Carhartt clothing, which was just weird. Also, the man has a pet rooster, and his cup runneth over with cock jokes, which brought this down to a firm 2-star. I think I am going to leave the next in the series on the shelf.
This was a lot of fun. I have yet to read an Amy Daw book that didn't make me happy. She is addictive! This is book 3 in the Mountain Men Matchmaker series, but you can totally read any of them as a standalone. Marriage of convenience/fake dating is always something that will get me, but this one added in bff's as the two love interests and I enjoyed that level up. Plus this was a duet narration and I feel like that is always the way to go in kissing books. Much love to Harlequin Audio & NetGalley for my ALC.
STOP WHAT YOU'RE DOING! Luke Fletcher's story is finally here, and it was worth the wait!
Your favorite sexy, grumpy Mountain Men are back, and the matchmaking genuis Everly has her sights set on her reluctant to settle down uncle, Luke. Luke has secretly loved his best friend, Addison “Roe” Monroe, forever, so when Roe needs a husband to inherit her family's struggling lumberyard, he doesn't hesitate to step in. Cue the ultimate marriage of convenience meets best friends to lovers romance! This third installment of the Mountain Man Matchmaker series is packed with swoon-worthy tension as Luke and Roe settle onto Fletcher mountain, navigate a fake relationship, and prepare for a winter wedding. Watching this lovable goofball enter a lumberjack competition just to win his tomboy best friend's heart? SWOON.
Amy Daws is one of my favorite authors for a reason! She never fails to tell unique and humorous stories with unforgettable characters, but what really puts her above the rest is her ability to balance the cozy small-town charm with real emotional depth. This book gracefully explores themes of grief, survivor's guilt, and Roe's struggle to save her family legacy. She's strong, capable, and exactly the vulnerable heroine you'll root for. But let's be honest, the true scene-stealer is Rufus, Luke's ridiculously big cock (Get your mind outta the gutter! It’s his pet rooster!) whose antics will have you laughing out loud.
It's no big shock that once again Teddy Hamilton and Erin Mallon knocked it outta the park with a phenomenal duet narration! This pair never ceases to entertain and keep me hanging on their every word. If you love family dynamics and delicious, slow-burn tension, mixed with loads of humor and spice, you need to read this one!
This is more a 3.5, I really wanted to enjoy this, I liked the friends to lovers fake marriage premise, but the characters could be incredibly frustrating. Also, how much drama needs to be packed into one book! We have self-confidence issues (I swear Roe had the worst self image of herself), mild other woman drama, miscommunication, and dumb decisions. I love the family dynamics and lots of humor, I laughed a lot, the unpacking of grief was good too, and the spice was spicy. Idiots in love!
This was a good read i enjoyed all the banter fun and best friend marriage of convenience plot. We have the mmc who has had unrequited feelings for the fmc who is his best friend. Everly the famous matchmaking niece plans a way for her uncle to get the fmc to fall in love with him. The fmc has basically taken over her dada business and is trying to get a man to marry as thats the condition of her fully taking over the business. The main character agree to enter a marriage of convenience and live together on the farm. I always love stories where there is forced proximity especially in the marriage of convenience plot. The banter was good and i loved the push and pull especially when they were falling for each other but couldn’t tell each other. The romance was sweet and i loved the vulnerable moments between the main characters. Overall this was a cute read, thanks to the publisher for this arc.
Fact or Fiction: This is a 5 star emotionally, whitty, loving book that will rip your heart out multiple times and then put you back together.
Amyyyyyyyyy. In what world can you have a lumberjack competition, a… Rufus…, mountain men brothers, a friends to married couple working through their own grief journeys, and a forced marriage all in one book? This was perfection. I want to find one of their long lost brothers and get snowed in on this mountain peak.
I just love the Mountain Men Matchmaker Series. Luke and Addison should have been together a long time ago; they both had feelings, but neither acted on them because they didn't want to ruin their friendship, which I can understand. But the fact that Addison needs to get married just so she can inherit the family company was the best excuse for them to get together. They have their ups and downs throughout the book and Luke did some stupid stuff, but of course in the end everything works out.
Luke Fletcher has been the steady, lovable mountain man in the background for two books, and Honeymoon Phase finally gives him his moment to shine — and boy, does he deliver. His best friend Addison “Roe” is under pressure to marry before she can take over her dad’s business, and Luke’s been volunteering for the job with that sweet, earnest charm of his. She keeps saying no… until he swings an axe and her heart at a lumberjack contest (honestly, who wouldn’t fold?).
What follows is a whirlwind courthouse wedding, a meddling but lovable Fletcher matriarch insisting on a “real” ceremony, and a slow-burn slide from friends to lovers that’s equal parts tender, funny, and ridiculously swoony.
The audiobook makes it chef’s kiss perfection. Teddy Hamilton and Erin Mallon are romance royalty, and they absolutely nail Luke and Roe’s dynamic — the chemistry, the banter, the heart-thumping emotional moments. If you’re listening on audio, expect to grin like a fool in public.
Thanks to Amy, her publisher, and NetGalley for an advanced audio copy of this book.
I really wanted to enjoy this one but it fell a little flat for me. I love the Fletcher brothers and Luke was no different. I really loved his character! The Fletcher family dynamics are perfect and always keep things light with the storyline. The fact the brothers are always so present in all these books really makes it that much more heartwarming.
The major flaws I had were with the FMC and her father as characters. Unfortunately both these characters really dropped the rating for this book. I could tell the author wanted Addison to be an independent strong character but she personally came across as selfish and immature to me in the first half of the book. Her character improved a bit as the story continued but still not my favorite FMC. I just couldn’t relate to her. Addison’s father was also a terrible person. The way he treated his daughter throughout the story made me cringe and all the conflict that rose from him retiring and transferring the business to Addison was excessive. His character was just too big of an issue to look past for me and it’s reflected in my rating.
