Author spoke eloquently and accurately of about women's issues in the the late 19th century, and the surprising thing was how it mirrors women's issues today. I suppose men/women issues haven't evolved all that much. Intriguing stories. I read all but the last one. It was written in broken English, to reflect the character's speech, which I find tedious to read.
I read everything except last story. These stories are about pioneer women by a 19th century author. The story, The New Penelope is on a woman's trip west by wagon train. Other stories deal with journeys by rail, wifehood and widowhood. Included is a biography of the author.
I bought this under the impression it was a non fiction history book. It is not. It is a collection of stories written in the latter half of the Victorian era by a woman who lived out West. It's not really for me, so I DNFed it.
I loved reading the intro about Frances Fuller Victor, I am interested to learn more about her. A great group of short stories during the setting of the west. The New Penelope was actually my least favorite of the short stories, but the others more than made up for it.
