From Cate Ellink comes a sun-soaked, sandy, seaside erotic novel about a tropical paradise, two athletes used to getting physical, and a sex-filled, no-strings holiday fling.
Samantha is celebrating her newly retired status from competitive triathlons with a diving holiday in her favourite place in the world: Australia’s Lord Howe Island. But all divers need a buddy, and Sam can’t dive solo. A chance meeting with rugby league superstar Cooper Sterling in the dive shop seems serendipitous. Sam can’t wait to have a partner who might be able to keep up with her.
It soon becomes evident that Cooper and Sam are compatible both in and out of the water, and things gets seriously sexy. But Sam is disinclined to be another football groupie, and Cooper has been burned before. So the rules are clear: a holiday fling, no strings attached, and they part as friends at the end.
But as the final days of their time together come to a close and a life apart becomes a reality, Sam and Cooper start to question their decision. Is this holiday fling really the finish line or can Sam and Cooper turn their friendly competition into more than sizzling sex?
Cate Ellink became intrigued by the erotic when her grandfather used to pass books to her father saying, “Don’t let the girls read page X.” Although her mother and sisters never bothered to chase those pages, Cate always did. Invariably, her imagination was better than what she read.
While pursuing a career in science, Cate amused herself by writing about ordinary events and giving them an erotic twist. It’s taken more than a few years to bravely expose her mind to the public. While the events in her stories may have occurred, it’s highly likely that her imagination is far more exciting than the reality.
Cate lives near the beach in NSW, Australia, with a long-suffering husband.
Deep Diving is truly enjoyable sweet contemporary romance novel from Cate Ellink.
The central characters, Samantha (a recently retired triathlete) and Cooper (a hunky footballer) are easily likeable and combined with a gorgeous Lord Howe Island backdrop (which Ellink beautifully weaves into the story), Deep Diving was a story that I finished in one sitting.
It was refreshing to read from the first-person point-of-view of Samantha, and I think that too made for an easy and enjoyable read.
I was provided with an ARC of this book by Escape Publishing via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
If you are in the market for a fun, sexy, likeable and hot love story, Deep Diving will be entirely up your alley. It would be a perfect read for sitting by the pool. Just make sure you grab yourself a fan, because things do get steamy!
I've learned more about diving than I ever knew. I certainly never knew it was possible to talk underwater. The physicality of this pair (Cooper and Sam) leaves me breathless. It also leaves me doing the 'pinch' test and deciding it's time I stopped eating so much white chocolate tart and started running more. Exercising more. Or just doing anything to get my heart pumping, more. These two sporty people are a match made in heaven. And Lord Howe Island is heaven. This book takes place over a 10-day holiday, in Cooper's off-season holiday from rugby league. It's an erotic romance, so be prepared for things between Cooper and Sam to get very hot, very quick. Other than that: enjoy this for an escapist, hot read, and you'll be fine. Put the kids to bed first...
Cate Ellink's writing style is so different to any other author I know that I would have trouble making a comparison but what I can tell you is that if you like her, you really like her and that's the case for me. There's a frankness and a downright fabulously filthy sexiness in Deep Diving, the same that I enjoyed in The Virginity Mission, Cate's debut novel. A definite re-reader:)
I'm not really into first person POV but this worked quite well. We get this story totally from Sam's point of view. She is a recently retired triathlete so for a 38 year old, she is pretty fit and buff. Every year she comes to Lord Howe Island for her holiday to dive and snorkel and eat chowder at her favourite restaurant. The only thing she needs is a dive partner.
Cooper is a youngish footballer from Melbourne. He is this solid mountain of muscle with a crazy sexy grin on top. He usually travels to a different place for his diving in the footy off season and this year he lands on Lord Howe Island. The only thing he needs is a dive partner. And maybe...
Lord Howe Island is the third character in this book. The author loves it, the characters love it. If I ever thought I might go there, I suspect I would love it too.
Cooper and Sam team up as dive partners and it works really well. They are in sync right from the start and it's pretty obvious they might just be in sync in just about everything else physical.
This is pretty much an erotic romance. The language is strongish, the sex scenes are many and varied. Yes, they do go there.
The romance itself if very sweet. These are nice people. People you might have met with their strengths and weaknesses. These play out well in the ten day romance and quite believably.
I enjoyed the book and the ending was satisfactory.
A sea side holiday fling between two Australian sports pros held tons of appeal and I was glad to take it down and dust it off my shelf. It was sizzling hot, but had a nice undercurrent of emotion to drive the relationship forward.
Deep Diving is a fast-read standalone set on an Australian island for two people looking for a sea diving holiday. Sam is a newly retired pro triathelete now coach who encounters Cooper a star football player. The extent of the story is one week, but so much happens from them starting as diving buddies with a strong attraction, to holiday bed buddies with rules about parting after, and then the feelings get involved.
I was all set for this to play out in the usual way, but then I perked right up. Sam is telling the story and it is not long before her personality shines forth. Samantha is 38 and she is a vibrant, confident and competitive woman. She has no problem saying what she thinks or what she wants. She is not abrasive or rude, but just certain. Though, yes, she likes her control and likes to dictate the pace of things. She's used to men wanting her and used to being with hard-bodied athletic men so she sees Cooper as a nice distraction and part of the holiday. At first.
This was hot and this pair got up to some erotic escapades between their wonderful adventures diving, snorkeling, hiking, and running. Incidentally, I loved seeing pro athletes acting like... well, athletes. They enjoyed active pursuits, but appreciated the view and, photography, in Cooper's case. The meal descriptions were sumptuous but not decadent. They were playing and having fun. Friends and lovers with common interests, but then a relationship snuck up on them.
Sam is awkward with social situations, particularly, when she senses a relationship happening, but I thought it was neat how the author used this for this pair to have adult conversations about where they are at in life and what they want. Oh sure, Sam is terrified and wants to do a runner each time she realizes that she is falling just a little bit more for Cooper. They are quite the pair so attracted and perfect for each other and I thought their awkward moments of trying to talk about feelings and a possible future was adorable.
All in all, this book was a delightful surprise. Its holiday, sports, and erotic romance bundled together, but it ventures past the usual and gives a fun story for a pair that I really enjoyed for their uniqueness. I can heartily recommend this one to those who enjoy contemporary sports romance with a more than a dash of spice.
I'm really struggling to rate this book as it has split my opinion right down the middle. On one hand parts made me consider giving up, while on the other I'm glad I finished reading it. I think by the end of it though, I really loved the characters and their story.
It was the first forty per cent of this book that has me struggling with my rating so much. It really didn't engage me and I felt the writing was a bit stiff. I was thrown straight into the story and I felt like I was constantly trying to catch up with background information and trying to make a connection with the characters. I also didn't think I was going to grow to like the characters. I'm not sure what is was about them but in the first half of this book, but I felt very disconnected from everything--maybe it was the speed at which everything happened ... I don't know.
However, saying that, I'm glad I didn't give up on this book as the second half more than made up for it. The characters grew on me, as did their relationship and the writing picked up. It became more engaging and I couldn't put the last half down. I think the main reason for this was that there were more feelings involved rather than just sex--which was still hot.
I found the holiday fling believable--maybe not all of the conversations--but in general things moved along well and I liked how the characters grew together. I liked Cooper's playful attitude and how they both teased each other. As well as that, I liked the constant competition between them and the setting. I've always been interested in diving so the constant underwater aspect was a nice, unique touch.
Overall although the start didn't work for me, the ending left the book on a good note. This is a feel-good read that gets better as it goes. You may have to wait a little for it to pick up but it's worth the wait.
Deep Diving was sent to me via Netgalley for an honest review. So here goes.
Deep Diving stars two main characters Samantha and Cooper.
Sam is a retired triathlon competitor and Coop still plays football.
They meet on a Diving holiday and become dive buddies. Lust at first sight is quickly followed by a growing relationship. Will it turn into more than just a holiday fling? I'll let you read and find out for yourself :)
I have never read a story which included Diving and i found this a lovely surprise. It was so full of description and i could imagine being down there with them! I loved the competitions they both took part in, i found it very cute.
They both aren't great at having relationships and admit that to each other, but i love the fact you see their relationship grow as the book goes along.
This is a refreshing book and i really did enjoy it, I will recommend to everyone, A great read and well worth 4*!
Received an ARC copy from Netgalley for a honest review. When I started reading this book, I wasn't sure if I was going to enjoy it since I don't know a lot about diving plus it took a little while to warm up to the storyline. I am glad though that I kept reading because I did actually enjoy the book. Storyline is interesting, entertaining, fun and flirty. Samantha and Cooper have a rare connection where they can be competitive, have fun as friends but also have steamy chemistry. Love their interaction thru out the book. Would recommend.
The author rocked this book so hard it took my breath away. The level of craft, the level of emotion, the gorgeous, beautiful language, the wonderful story, wow! And there's enough sex to satisfy the greediest of erotic romance readers.
Deep Diving is a standalone novel and the first book I have read by this author, I was given a review copy of this book by the publisher in exchange for an honest review so here goes...
I’m not entirely sure about this book on the one hand there is an awful lot of smoking hot sex which gets a big thumbs up from me.
On the other hand it has a very thin “romance” between Samantha & Cooper.
I liked both characters and they were obviously very much in lust with one another but I think it would be a stretch to call it love.
Samantha is a 38 year old ex professional athlete, control freak, commitment phobe. I have to admit
I kinda liked her, the character has a very dry sense of humour and things she said had me laughing out loud.
Cooper is a 30 year old professional rugby player who is hot as hell and a bit of a sex god lol.
The book is written in Samantha’s POV so I didn’t feel we really got to know Cooper, but what we did find out about him I liked a lot.
Did I mention this book has a LOT of really hot sex!!!
Well hell I probably need to say it again there is loads of hot sex in this book!!!
Sam & Cooper literally ooze sexual chemistry and they embrace it by basically getting down and dirty whenever and wherever the mood takes them.
I also have some issues with this book...
I really needed an epilogue; I want to know what happens to them. Do they make it work, does she end up pregnant??? This book ends and I didn’t get that sense of closure instead I felt frustrated!!!!
He offers to get her pregnant after knowing her for a matter of days WTF!!!!!!
I’m sorry but I just didn’t feel a love connection, they had known each other for 10 days and for most of that time neither of them considered their relationship anything but a holiday fling.
This book isn’t particularly romantic and to be honest for me everything else that happens outside of the sex was just filler.
The question I’ve had to ask myself is does it bother me that the story is a bit lacking..... Well no it really doesn’t, this book is sexy and a bit kinky and had me squirming in my seat and that worked for me lol 3.5 stars.
Thoughts: Part of the charm of this book is the descriptiveness - not just between the characters, but the amazing diving scenes, as well. I have to say, the author really has a talent for pulling you into the scene, so much so that you almost feel like you could reach out and touch the fish, the turtles, and the other ocean life that these characters experience on their dives. I definitely find myself with a new vacation spot on my fantasy list of places to visit in the future! I have no doubt that anyone reading this book will have the sudden urge to visit Australia's Lord Howe Island. A very talented author, and one I hope to read more of in the future.
The characters were great - I loved the build-up of the chemistry between them, their interactions with each other, and just the sense of 'rightness' between them. When it comes to the erotica element, this one is more about two people testing their sexual boundaries and having fun with it rather than about some of the racier BDSM elements a lot of readers are used to. If you are used to the 'wilder' erotica books, this one may seem a bit tame - but definitely a bit racy if your not an erotica reader! Readers should also be aware that this is told from the first-person point of view (POV) - since I know some of you actively avoid reading those books.
Personally, while I loved the diving aspect and the erotic sexual scenes, the story just seemed to bounce alot back and forth between the two - with not much else. I wish there had been a bit more to the story, but that's my opinion. What we do get with this story is a great relationship story with erotic elements told by an amazingly descriptive author.
First things first. I don’t think I will look at yogurt and fruit for breakfast the same again… ever.
Sam is pretty sassy. When she first sees Cooper walking ahead of her towards the dive shack she wolf whistles at him. She also likes to keep Cooper on his toes. Never quite reacting how is expected. She also likes to tease him. When they first meet up she has no idea who he is, except that he is built like a god and hotter then hell. Everything he does has her turned on, even eating.
Cooper is confident and easy going, with a sexy smile boasting three dimples. He is intrigued by Sam. She’s not like the girls/groupies that are usually around him. She is an enjoyable dive buddy and she’s able to keep up with him in and out of bed. In fact she pushes his limits often. Both him and Sam are competitive by nature and they seem to thrive off of that, even when it is all in fun.
After a dive and dinner Cooper asks Sam to become more then dive buddies, he wants to take it to bed buddies. And from there they are off. They are insatiable for each other. Sam spends nights with Cooper which she usually doesn’t do in her other flings. As their ten days together progresses so does their relationship, becoming more then the fling it started out as. It’s moving into a permanent territory. Something new for both of them. They have mad monkey lovin’ all over the island. Always trying new positions, never the same way twice. So if you are looking for a read full of hot steamy sex this is definitely it. These two screw as much as they play! And being that they are both on holiday, that is pretty much how they spend their days.
GOD! This book had me from the get go. It reminded me that I should read more excellent 1st person POV stories. It also reminded me that I've always wanted to learn how to dive. For me, the emotions with the connection to the water and the sea life was a highlight. I loved the way the prose made me read it slowly, even though I wanted to read faster to see how this holiday fling would manifest. That's how this book was for me. Descriptive, detailed, full-on erotic.
This is the first I've read from fellow Escape author, Cate Ellink, but it won't be the last. Her style and voice is unique and I loved the way I got to know Cooper even though the story was told through Sam. Both top line Aussie athletes in their field, the fitness level, and independent attitudes to both enhanced the story and I wondered until very late in the story if this would be a HEA or a HFN ending. But I never doubted the connection they had from the start. These two enjoy each other in every way. For me, this is exactly the type of erotic story I love bundled up with the beautiful Australian coastal way of life and breathtaking underwater world.
the premise of the book really caught my attention...i'm a former triathlete so samantha being a retired professional triathlete appealed to me.
overall, the book was ok...the writing was good, the premise was good but i thought there were too many sex scenes (i know it's erotica but enough is enough). their relationship seemed glossed over and based primarily on their compatibility in bed.
by the end of the book their relationship seems to progress but by then i just wanted to finish the book.
i thought the characters were likeable but seemed underdeveloped. the surprise sam springs on both cooper and the reader came out of nowhere and seemed misplaced.
Hoooooooooooooooot...hot, hot, hot!!! If you love hot, then you'll LOVE Cate Ellink. But is hot enough? No. And that's why Cate writes a damned good book. Because in the middle of all the sexy raunch there's that tender emotion, burgeoning feelings, good, solid conflict and a fabulous setting. Not to mention the diving! Sam and Cooper are both fit, competitive athletes. They're a perfect pair and the sex is incredible. What starts as a holiday fling ends up being so much deeper and more compelling. Congratulations on a fabulous book, Cate. I loved it!!!
What do you do when you retire from triathlons? You take a holiday and do dives and get away from it all.
For Samantha Caine, she is enjoying the day as it comes....then she meets Cooper. Who says he's a football player and thats it. She doesn't care who he is all she sees is lots of muscles she wants to explore and after a dive, a very awesome dive buddy..
From there they evolve into something more and the story goes on quite like you would expect. I did enjoy it, it was fun to read.
Copy courtesy of Netgalley for review Short erotic read. There was more sex than plot or relationship development. The are sex buddies the first half if the book and then they are talking babies and are in a relationship. I did a lot if skimming. It was just ok for me.cooper and Sam were ok and the writing was good. I just wanted more plot.,
