The reanimating virus left billions dead. The UK and Ireland remained safe. Until now.
Deano and BD, a father and son a universe apart. Nothing in common. Not wanting anything in common. But today all that will change.
Bedlam has been unleashed. The streets are swarming with infected and survival is all that matters. To make it, they’re going to have to trust each other, depend on each other, fight for each other like they never have before.
The city is bleeding.
Nowhere is safe.
Will they find refuge before nightfall or is it already too late?
One thing’s for sure. This will be the longest day of their lives.
I was born and raised in Leeds, West Yorkshire. Wanting to escape life in a big city and concentrate more on working to live than living to work, I moved to the Outer Hebrides in the north-west of Scotland in 2004 and I have lived there ever since with my wife and dogs.
I write post-apocalyptic, sci-fi, dystopian and horror fiction. I’ve released fifty one books across six different series - Safe Haven, The End of Everything, Unsafe, Relentless, The Burning Tree and Scares in Scotland.
In addition, most of my titles are now available as audiobooks narrated by Kim Bretton, so if you’re one of the many people who struggle to find the time to read, you can listen on the go.

This tells the story of Deano & BD, who are father & son and haven't really had much of a relationship. Deano has mostly lived on the wrong side of the law and has not long since been released from prison.
BD ends up caught in the start of the zombie apocalypse with his co-worker Taki, and goes in search of his Dad for help, and so begins the adventure.
Did give me a laugh in places as it was sprinkled with dry brit humour throughout. Derek was a standout character - he was grumpy, but funny and lovable.
We also have the obligatory baddie in Danny and a protective dog named Petal.
This is apparently a spin-off of the Safe Haven Universe, and if like me you haven't read that series yet, according to the Author's website the timeline to this series runs parallel to that one, so there shouldn't be much in the way of spoilers if you eventually go on to read that series.
I haven’t read much zombie apocalypse books, but I I loved this! Great and relatable characters and the setting feels so real, like I was watching a movie. My favorite character was Derek, he was so lovely and funny! 🥰 Can’t wait to see where this goes. On to the next!
Excellent new series a page turner with some awesome characters. Some seriously annoying characters. Good story line . I found this author by reading the burning tree, Safe Haven, The end of everything. They’re all amazing reads that draw you in and always leave you wanting more .
Christopher Artinian is my favorite author in the zombie genre, so I knew that this start to a new companion series would be wonderful. And, I wasn't disappointed! The story starts with a bang as the reanimating virus hits the UK with full force and all hell breaks loose! The author has worked in the actions of the government in the early days of this horror and a few familiar characters make an appearance as tough decisions are made.
The story follows a very mixed bag of characters and I enjoyed "meeting" each of them. You have gangsters, mafiosos, an elderly actor (who is great comedic relief), and a wonderful dog all thrown together as London falls to the undead. The characters are well-developed in a short time against the horrors of the outbreak and I enjoyed their interactions. There are plenty of family dynamics, lots of emotion and just enough humor to keep the book from being a total downer.
There is enough zombie action to keep the story moving at a fast pace and the demise of a truly villainous character and the loyalty of a faithful dog made me fist pump as I read. There are a lot of new characters to keep track of in this first venture and I'm sure I will forget some of their names, but I can already tell who is going to be on my favorites list.
The narrator, Kim Bretton, does her usual fantastic job in bringing this story and the characters to life. Her performance takes an already great book and lifts it to a new level of greatness. I can't wait to continue to follow this new group as they fight for survival in this new, horrific world.
The storytelling in this book was so very well done and I enjoyed all of the characters too, wonderfully multifaceted. The build up was intense and at times I felt myself reading faster just to see what would happen next. I like how we also had more than one evil, and clear people to root for.
The setting of London is always a good choice because of the chaos it has in the real world on a daily basis.
My only gripe really is the constant "he smiled, she smiled, he grinned" throughout the book. I get that people would do that but it seemed to be every second or third sentence and it was overused.
I'm looking forward to further entries in the series.
I loved Unsafe book 1 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Christopher Artinian takes us back to where it all began in his latest zombie apocalyptic world, with a new series based in London. The characters in this book are so well developed that you can't help getting sucked into this world and the horror within. Based around a London scrap yard, where shady deals have happened in the past, the story follows Deano and his son, rekindling their strained relationship as the outbreak begins. They are joined by other members of the community as the scrap yard becomes a beacon of hope in an otherwise hopeless situation. Another five-star read.
One book I n and it seems this will be another great series by this author. Good characters and enough conflict to make you want to keep reading. My only concern is that this series will slow down new books for safe haven....which I love!!! And I already feel the pain of waiting for the next one of that. Hopefully these come fast and furious and safe haven does the same. Little crossover of characters between the two which is sort of a give away since you then know some of the survivors.
I don't usually go for zombie stories, believing them to be too much of the same old thing. The premise of this story about the relationship between estranged father and son piqued my interest. Glad I followed my initial thought, this story is so much more than killing zombies. I loved everything about it. The interaction between the numerous characters and the heartening story of how someone can make a difference in a world gone to crap. Thank you for enlightening me and changing my preconception of a zombie story.
Chris has created some of my favorite characters an action scenes in fiction, and this book is no exception. I’m really enjoying the criminal element of some of the main characters, as well as the return of some familiar faces. I’m excited to see how things unfold from a different perspective and how it all blends with the other books in the series. Kim is hands-down one of the best narrators and voice actors in the business. Bottom line: if you enjoy Chris’s work—or if you’re new to it—this is a must-read. Five stars.
Another great start to a action packed adventure written by C Artinian ..Now we get new people to love...but not Danny..we don't love Danny...lol , he is a fucktard. I love a writer who can put me right in the middle of all the action ..I'm riding in the cars, or running down the road trying to dodge the undead right along with the characters in the book. AND THATS A GOOD WRITER IN MY BOOK THAT CAN PUT ME IN THE THE STORY.I SAY DAMN WE KICKED SOME ASS TODAY ....LOL.
Absolutely amazing book from the best selling author of the Safe Haven series, yet again we have characters we start to love and others not so much. I love the new characters mixed with some more known ones. Hooked from book one ☝️ and I know Unsafe is going to be as exciting has Safe Haven…. Shame you can’t write both at the same time. Brilliant, Thankyou once again for keeping me engrossed in every page.
Artinian has again given us, the readers a character driven, emotionally charged tale. I loved seeing some familiar characters included in with these great new characters. We have people banding together to survive and helping complete strangers because it's the right thing to do and of course on the other hand, we have people who will take advantage of this horror for their own power and greed. I'm looking forward to reading more of this series.
Thank you Mr Artinian for another brilliant start to this new series, that is in the Safe Haven universe.I knew from the first chapter that I was in for a thrilling and exciting ride and I was not disappointed . Love these new characters and I'm already invested in their stories. Jump aboard you'll love the journey. Definitely looking forward to the next book.
Well there was me always wondering what was happening in the rest of the country while wren, Robyn and co where wreaking havoc in the north and here I believe is the answer, BD, Deano and co where starting to do the same in the south. Christopher Artinian has become by far my favourite apocalyptic author. Thank you for another great tale.
What a fantastic read of what I’m sure will be a great series of books. Love that it’s set in my old stomping ground of South East London can picture the places in my mind. Some great dark humour and some fantastic characters taking shape and can’t wait to see what fate awaits! Bravo Chris 👏👏
Just when I thought there was nothing left after Safe Haven and The End of Everything, I found this gem. I enjoyed this story. I wasn't sure what this was gonna be about but after the first chapter, I was locked in. So far Derek is my favorite character. He brought humor to the apocalypse. This is a good read.
Same universe, different people, place and storyline. Absolutely awesome. Christopher has given us a whole new load of people to love and people to hate. I do hope at some point in time this new series will meet up with Safe Haven and End of Everything. Very excited for book 2.
intense and exciting this book drags you in front of the very first chapter, The characters are fantastic and the story is brilliant. Can’t wait to get my hands on the next one. Another brilliant start to what will surely be another amazing series
I finished this book in a day, I was that engrossed. Can’t wait for book two. The author really did a good job with Deano’s redemption arc. Fantastic start to the series.
This book was exciting even though the zombie theme has been done to death( no pun intended). The characters were engaging, especially Poppie and the story line held my Interest. Looking forward to the next installment.
The translator app must be confused? Same cool, fun yarn after every pass. I really enjoyed this tale, imagined myself in a cozy English pub while enjoying a stout. A pleasure to read, thank you!
I’ve read ALOT of zombies. This book has started the series off well. The story is flowing and the character development is beginning. I am looking forward to reading more!
I enjoy reading stories like these but this book, I couldn’t put down. I was really caught in this book as if I was there. Each part of the story line is brilliantly written. Now onto Unsafe book two
Loved the character development in this zompoc. Just a normal seeming zombie apocalypse, but with broken people in broken relationships. Very enjoyable, not too deep.
Absolutely loved the action in this book from beginning to end. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys zombie books and movies. I really liked the gang aspect if the book and characteristics of the people in the story.
I am hooked already. First book down! I like these new characters with their complexities and refreshing backgrounds stories. I cannot wait for the next one.
