This book was so good tbh , it highlighted so many aspects in my own traumas tbh . It hit home a bit too close . There was so many funny parts though I still had a great laugh , and sometimes you wanted to yell at the FMC like get your shit together, even if you understand why she spiraled so much , but in the end it was absolutely great , and id definitely read more of the series!

The Boyfriend Boycott is a slow burn, he fall first romance which starts as a friends with benefits agreement. Spencer is free spirited and doesn’t believe in relationships thanks mainly to her upbringing and Grady’s main role in his life is supporting his family and always putting others first. This heartfelt story with real characters and a supportive friendship group was a joy to read. I received a complementary copy from NetGalley.

I loved this book! The characters, Spencer and Grady were so fun to get to know. I got mad at Spencer SO many times for being a stubborn idiot! But that's the point. She had trauma and had some things to figure out before she could really see how wonderful Mr. Perfect was. And he really is perfect. The things he says are what every girl wants to hear and OMG his dirty-talk is a HOT! He goes from cinnamon roll/golden retriever to the tattooed steamy/sexy take charge male in a snap that makes me swoon. There's no way Spencer could NOT give in and fall in love with the man who calls her Rebel. I also loved the dual POV. Their personalities were so clear and easy to read too. I haven't read the first book yet since I got an ARC but I will definitely have it on my TBR. This was a stand alone technically so any order is fine.

💭 My thoughts
This was my first ARC and I'm so glad that it was! I love the found family and small-town vibes so much. The romantic plot paired with the plot to save this small town from big corp was perfect and heart-warming. Megan's writing flows so nicely and the advice she shares through some of her characters is advice we can all relate to. Spencer & Grady are such a perfect couple. I loved Grady's steadiness and Spencer's chaos, the character growth that we get to see for both characters, and of course a happy ending for everyone. Plus, the spice is.. shall we say, spiced throughout? All of those creative and spur of the moment spicy scenes! fans self Highly recommend this read if you need something to make you feel good.

This is Meg Riley's second book and it was so so so good! The Boyfriend Boycott was fast paced, engaging and written beautifully. From the beginning I felt like I was connected to the characters and honestly felt like I was part of the small town vibes. Spencer was definitely a bit stubborn at times (and got on my nerves because of it, but in a good way). Spencer's quirks made her relatable and feel like she was a friend.
I have not always been a fan of a dual POV, but Meg did such a great job of it. It highlighted both of the character's personalities and helped elevate the story. Both of them come from very real trauma that I know a lot of people can relate to. Hearing the story told from both of them helped move the story along and helped to understand the town and everything so much better.
It was the perfect mix of romance and spice.
My favorite quote from the book: "you and I are inevitable, and if you can't see that yet, let me see it for the both of us."

This was such a heartfelt I felt like I was always smiling when reading this however at times I felt a little too connected to Spencer because of her mum so sometimes I was a little emotional but this book was truly amazing! I love Spencer & Grady I was so invested with Spencer soon as she was introduced into “Love on call” which is book one in the Heartwood series! Spencer is a badass FMC but at times she doubts herself she never really had a childhood growing up as things where difficult but when she’s on her own she thrives but when she needs a job she asks Grady and this man is head over heels for her so he agrees and Grady he is so sweet and of course his backstory is very heartfelt too the way he speaks about his past is great it adds so much depth when these guys are together for me it felt as if they were the ultimate power couple I love these guys so much and Grady would do anything for Spencer it was basically love at first sight for him 🥰 I love the story and how they both helped each other in different ways and I’m so happy for Spencer and what she did towards the end but Grady the man is in LOVE

i had no idea that this was a second in a series, so i will 100% be going back to read the first one to see how Mason & Ally really got together as i just love how pure their relationship seemed in this book!!
i adored this slow burn relationship between the two main characters, especially because he fell first (and harder) !!! i loved flicking between the two characters, and seeing their dynamic from both perspectives as it was written so well. the only reason this isn't a 5 stars for me is because sometimes i did get mad at Spencer for running away but it is very understandable due to her past traumas.
this was such a fun read, and i just loved the joy both characters radiated, and it has now made me want to move to a small town in the middle of the mountains!!!

I feel like I related so much to Spencer, she had to grow up fast, and learn to be independent, which is similar to my own life! I totally related to her distrust in relationships, and was shocked to see it in writing!

The Boyfriend Boycott by Meg Riley is a steamy, fast paced rom-com in a small town setting with amazing well developed characters that have immense growth throughout the story. Thank you @Sunnybabepr for sending me an ARC copy of this Book. It is the second book in The Heartwood Series, which are interconnected standalones. I didn’t read the first book in the series, but as a standalone, it wasn’t necessary, at no point did I feel that I was missing any key elements of the story.
The book follows Grady, a tattooed, motorcycle driving, bar owner, who (besides being obsessed with the FMC) discovers that restaurant chains and big corporations are trying to overturn a law that only allows town locals to have businesses. He knows this will have a negative impact on his small town and is determined to do anything to stop it from happening. Our other main character, Spencer, has lived her entire adult life avoiding anything and everything permanent. She is a travel blogger, which has afforded her the lifestyle of not staying in one place for too long and able to avoid establishing roots or serious relationships. But she’s not receiving contracts as often as she used to and becomes fearful of not having a secure income that will allow her to continue affording her independent lifestyle. Her current, and final contract, brings her to Heartwood, where she catches up with her childhood best friend, Ally, who’s married to Grady’s brother. Sparks fly from the very first moment Grady & Spencer are together, every encounter is full of funny & witty banter. Their attraction is undeniable, which is why they spend the night together. A night that Spencer, is adamant will not be repeated. Spencer is sure she just needs to avoid Grady until her contract is up and she leaves town. That is until an opportunity, that will be beneficial for both of them, comes up and she’s forced to spend more time with Grady. Since resisting each other seems to be futile they establish a friends with benefits agreement. But the rules established to avoid attachment are slowly broken and the lines begin to blur.
Even though I truly enjoyed this book, it wasn’t a five star read for me, because some key moments were a bit predictable (but no less amazing because of it). It is a dual POV story and even though there is no third act breakup, you still have to read through the constant conflicting feelings of both main characters and even without the ‘breakup’ there is still some heartbreak. Overall, I definitely recommend this book, it was a great, funny read, with complicated, and in depth characters that will hook you in from the start. Grady will definitely be a contender for your favorite book boyfriend roster. If you loved ‘Just for the Summer’ by Abby Jimenez, you will love this book. It has many similarities, but with way more spice. The ending is a guaranteed HEA, that was absolutely perfect.

Meg you have done it once again, I still can’t believe this is your second book you have ever written! I love your fast pace, engaging and funny writing! I felt so connected to these characters. Grady cinnamon roll personality and the way he loves so hard. Then there’s Spencer I resonated a lot with her about her fierce independence, aspirations and her guarded personality.
This is was my favourite of the two that’s for sure!! So thank you for giving this amazing book I can’t wait for the next one!!

this was my first time reading anything by meg and i will definitely be going back and reading the first book in this series ASAP!! i absolutely loved this book so much! it was fun and easy to read. though this book is part of a series, i never once felt confused or found it hard to follow along with the characters/storyline! it was so easy to fall in love with the main characters in this story. i fell in love with their individual stories as well as their building romance!
spencer and grady were such fun characters to read about, i simply couldn’t get enough of them! the chemistry between them was off the charts and their banter was everything. they were honestly both what the other needed and it was just so sweet seeing them lean on and support each other. i especially loved how patient grady was with spencer and he never pressured her into doing anything she wasn't ready for. and while their friends-with-benefits arrangement was doomed from the beginning, it was fun watching them try, and fail, to resist their inevitable connection.
overall this was such a cute and fun read! i can’t wait to read meg’s future work and i cannot wait for the next book in this series! once again thank you so much to sunnybabepr and meg riley for providing me with this arc 💚

Another tattooed MMC? I definitely have a type 😍 and Grady completely stole my heart! He’s the perfect cinnamon roll – kind, patient, and so easy to love. Meanwhile, Spencer is strong-willed and determined, having sworn off relationships to focus on herself. Their chemistry? Off the charts. The pining, the tension, the will they/won’t they of it all had me absolutely hooked. 😩🔥
I love a good small-town romance, and Heartwood is the kind of place I need to be immersed in again. The cosy vibes, the close-knit community, the way everyone is in each other’s business – it all adds so much charm to the story. Plus, the one-night stand/friends-with-benefits to lovers trope was so well done. The story did feel a little jumpy at times, but I was still loving every second of it. What really stood out to me was Spencer’s growth. Her journey is so admirable and so relatable – working so hard on yourself that you forget to let other people love you. Seeing her slowly open up and allow herself to lean on Grady was incredibly rewarding.
This book has made me need to go back and read book 1 because I’ve absolutely fallen in love with Heartwood. Meg Riley has definitely earned a spot on my must-read list! 💕

Another tattooed MMC? I definitely have a type 😍 and Grady completely stole my heart! He’s the perfect cinnamon roll – kind, patient, and so easy to love. Meanwhile, Spencer is strong-willed and determined, having sworn off relationships to focus on herself. Their chemistry? Off the charts. The pining, the tension, the will they/won’t they of it all had me absolutely hooked. 😩🔥
I love a good small-town romance, and Heartwood is the kind of place I need to be immersed in again. The cosy vibes, the close-knit community, the way everyone is in each other’s business – it all adds so much charm to the story. Plus, the one-night stand/friends-with-benefits to lovers trope was so well done. Spencer is a headstrong, independent FMC who has sworn off relationships. She keeps herself guarded at all times and creates rules for Grady’s and her friends-with-benefits arrangement. Spencer’s fear of attachment is well written and relatable. Her need to do everything on her own is shaped by her mother’s terrible track record with men.
Grady is the opposite of Spencer when it comes to wanting a relationship. He wears his heart on his sleeve and is the biggest cinnamon roll. This man does everything - runs the local bar, coaches little league, takes care of his siblings, and even decorates a room for his future niece in his own house! He is beyond thoughtful and shows his love for Spencer through words of affirmation, physical gifts, and experiences. He falls first and patiently waits for Spencer to see that they are inevitable. It was so easy for me to fall in love with Grady while reading. 😍
While I definitely appreciate spicy moments in books, I found the frequency of these scenes to be a bit much. That said, the spice was still enjoyable but I preferred the banter (hello, Rebel 😉) and steamy moments between Spencer and Grady that involved shopping, hiking, and a game of Scrabble.

As expected, I easily read this in a single sitting. Writing flowed well, distinct POV chapters and an overall great addition to the Heartwood series.
This was such a sweet and fresh romance that was full of cozy small town charm and some trauma-informed angst. And not to compare book babies here, but I may like this book *a teensy bit* more than Love On Call.
The character work in this book is really commendable. Both main leads were well rounded and so relatable. Meg just has a way of writing beautifully flawed human characters in such a heartfelt and realistic way whilst still managing to pack it neatly in a cute and swoony romance book. Their individual character development and motivations were easy to understand and made sense within the overarching plot line. Because of this, despite it being somewhat of an 'insta-love' situation, I could actually see how their genuine love and affection for each other developed as the book progressed. They showed up for each other and held space when needed.
Though Grady is the perfect book boyfriend (steadfast in his devotion to Spencer, how he prioritises and validates her, rides a motorbike, tattoos, dedicated uncle, master of all the love languages, tall af etc. etc.), I felt Spencer really stole the show (or rather, book) for me. Her personal journey and hustle truly tugged at my heartstrings and the way in which she navigated through this was inspiring. I also appreciated how she has such a great support system with her friends who had no qualms giving it to her straight in a loving and honest way.
Would read again. So keen for Hudson's book!

This book does not disappoint. If you haven’t read a book by Meg then just know that her writing style is top tier. She makes her characters so relatable and easy to adore. Her FMC is easy to connect with and her MMC is so swoon worthy. 🥵
I’ll start with Spencer. She’s a girls girl, spit fire, lives life by her own rules and I found myself relating to SO MANY of her feelings and emotions. Her relationship with her parents is rocky(GIRL SAME) and her emotion is written so well throughout the story. You root for Spence the entire book. The character development with her is outstanding. The growth from beginning to end is mind blowing but in all the best ways. I wish more FMC were written with her drive, ambition and strength. 💪🏼 💭 🥰
Grady. MAN O MAN. 🥵😮💨 🤤 I could probably go on for days about the reasons this man is amazing but I’m going to try to sum it up. Grady comes off as a very passive class clown. Always trying to be everything for everyone and make everyone laugh. The further into this book you get the more you realize how complex his character is. He’s so sweet, loves so strongly and protects his people. He is so effortlessly perfect. 🥰 🫶🏼
The family dynamic with Grady’s family is one of my favorite parts. I love the love these brothers have for one another. The strength and support they give one another. Then you have Ally and Spencer. We love a girls girl and that’s what these two are. You find yourself relating and gravitating towards them. 🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼

Grady is the towns hot bar owner born and raised in Heartwood. He has the town thinking he doesn’t really take anything serious until his high school classmate comes into town wanting to change everything Heartwood stands for. Needing an image update for himself and the bar he accepts his sister in laws best friends help. He has been wanting her every since he laid eyes on her a year ago.
Spencer is a free butterfly not wanting to be tied down to anything or anyone she finds herself falling for Grady something she swore she wouldn’t do. Having a rough upbringing makes it hard for her to connect in a deeper level.

This has been a fun, cutesy series and dare I say this book and Grady & Spencer have been my favourites so far!

This book was okay for me. He falls first, she wants to stay single because she grew up with her mother always relying on men and she doesn’t want to follow in her footsteps.
I love the small-town vibes in this book, Heartwood sounds so quaint and homey, and I want to visit it! I loved how Grady was supporting Spencer’s lifestyle while also trying to win her over at the same time, and how Spencer showed Grady what it was to fight for something important in his life.
A pact forms between the 2 and soon, all the rules get broken in the process of helping each other out, and feelings begin to develop.
Will Spencer and Grady work out? Or will Spencer stick true to her boyfriend boycott?

I loved this for what it was.
I liked both of the MCs and loved their connection. However, they did not catch me so well to where I had this special connection to either.
Even though I related to Spencer because of her non-existent relationship with her mother, that was as far as I liked her. With Grady, I wish that it was different from your typical small town book where the MMC is always falling hard for the FMC. Just wish it was laid out better tbh.
Otherwise, I did like the underlying happenings ... where certain characters finally realized certain things and made decisions based on it. So safe to say there is definitely growth for some characters.

This was a fun read! Grady is such a sexy character. His love for Spencer was so sweet. He just wanted to be the security she was needing. Also, him on a bike, yes please.
Spencer is a character that I've met so many times before. I understand her trust issues and just wanting to find her independence. I am so glad she was able to do that in the end.

for once i've actually decided to read book one before arc-ing book two and i'm really glad i did it with this one, especially since i could clearly see the growth in the writing. don't get me wrong, i've absolutely loved book one as a debut, it was precious and i had a great time reading it, but it did lack something for me as i felt it moved sometimes a bit quickly and inconsistently, but i feel like book two somehow felt more complete?
i can totally see some readers being a bit impatient with spencer and her stubborness and reluctance towards grady, or relationships in general, due to what she'd been exposed to all her life with her mom, but i really liked that aspect of her character and how it made the ending that more sweet.. how she slowly but surely got to the point where she realizes what really matters to her - the job she thought she wanted or the love she didn't think she deserved. she was such a baddie too.. ❤️🔥

Spencer is a free-spirited "you can't tell me what to do, I can do it myself" woman, who is desperately trying to keep her distance from the handsome "just let me love you" Grady. These two have instant connections and lust for one another that while I usually don't enjoy the lust-at-first-sight trope, I'm glad it played out the way it did. This novel reminds me a lot of the movie "No Strings Attached", starring Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher, circa 2011 bowl haircut, where we have a stubborn female protagonist whom is doing her best to not fall in love. But who can say no to those puppy dog eyes? 🤪 ...Are we talking about Grady or Ashton Kutcher Emily? LOL

Rounded up to a 3 but I just don’t think this one was for me. It took me almost a month to read it, I just couldn’t really get into this story. I loved Grady, but Spencer was an annoying FMC for me that literally didn’t show any growth until about 90%. I was hoping there would be mention of therapy or something for her future….
I liked the town issue that was happening and how they came together and really pushed Grady to do more than just settle. I wish we had more with the affair though - that seemed to have been mentioned but no climax or really anything with it?

This one is a little difficult because I loved the town and everyone in the book, except for the FMC. The writing style was well done, the backdrop of the small town was really nice, but the FMC was determined to stay stagnant. There is zero % character growth on her end, until after 90%, and it’s frustrating. At times, she was actively talking herself OUT of growing. So many times it’s like she almost gets it, but then she runs 100 steps on the opposite direction and we’re starting all over again. She was honestly selfish and not really a great friend.
For the book itself, I think the sex scenes were a little awkward and super short, but ultimately okay. Condom usage was mentioned the very first time and then they were never used again and there was no conversation about diseases or other birth control methods, which is really concerning in this day and age. after the first time they just use the pull out method which we all know is not a viable form of birth control.
