In the past, Catherine Spencer has been an English teacher which was the springboard for her writing career. Heathcliff, Rochester, Romeo and Rhett were all responsible for her love of brooding heroes! Catherine has had the lucky honour of being a Romance Writers of America RITA finalist and has been a guest speaker at both international and local conferences and was the only Canadian chosen to appear on the television special, Harlequin goes Prime Time.
I liked and devoured it. It hit all the right spots for me. And Ms. Spencer continues to amaze me with how she can get into her characters' heads and describe all they are feeling and thinking. Plus, the storyline had just the right amount of drama to keep things flowing.
Danielle was such a great heroine. I loved her vulnerability and strength. She never breaks down and never shows anyone her vulnerability. That is until she met Carlo. I loved Carlo. I mean, he is everything a hero should be and could ever want to be. He's a dependable, caring, thoughtful, sweet, attentive, slightly domineering, intelligent, and very loving father. They were absolutely wonderful together, and I couldn't get enough of them. I loved how they slowly opened up and learned more about each other.
Overall, The Italian Doctor's Mistress is heartwarming, tender, and beautiful. I loved Carlo and Danielle and enjoyed how real their characters felt. I've just wished that there had been an epilogue. I thought it was nice to see Anita and Danielle interact again. But I loved the ending, though.
