People Are Weird is a charming, witty picture book that embraces human oddities with humor, warmth, and gentle wisdom. Victor D. O. Santos approaches the idea of “weirdness” not as something to correct, but as something to observe, enjoy, and ultimately accept. The text invites young readers to recognize themselves and others in the book’s playful depictions, turning difference into a source of curiosity rather than judgment.
The collaboration with illustrator Catarina Sobral adds a lively visual rhythm that perfectly complements the tone of the writing. The illustrations amplify the book’s message through expressive characters and bold design, making each page engaging and memorable. Beneath its lighthearted surface, People Are Weird delivers an inclusive message about empathy and self, making it both entertaining and meaningful for children and the adults reading alongside them.
I was so disappointed in this one! I get what they were trying to do, but it read more like a list of complaints from an older child or even and adult that the child's viewpoint I think it was going for.
the narrator is a kid wondering aloud, about what makes people weird. im gonna try this as a classroom read aloud, and see how first and second graders respond.
Gorgeous! The writing is smart. The illustrations perfectly match the energy of the book. This one brought me lots of happiness and some “awww” tears a couple of pages too. 10/10 recommend!
