For quiet, reserved, and focused 15 year old Annie Mackey, school was a sanctuary. But when her bubbly and beautiful neighborhood best friend joins her at Willow Point High for freshmen year, her world is turned upside down.
Everything Annie could count on for stability is shattered, and she's left feeling more alone than ever before.
Just when she's about to lose all hope, someone unexpected swoops in and gives her a much needed lesson in perspective.
So the power of blogs... I saw this book popping up everywhere a few weeks back.
Joey Hodges is a blogger who has a pretty decent following so people were really promoting her book. Plus it was on a Amazon Kindle special so I decided to give it a go.
The story takes you back to high school & the relationship between 2 best friends. 2 completely different young ladies starting their freshman year together. And while they have been best friends their whole lives, they never went to the same school. Would their friendship last in a different environment?
It's really a easy read bringing back high school memories of drama, of the popular gang & the way they can influence those around them, the dirty way that teenage girls can act, the first love butterflies & meeting the cute boy in school who likes you as well, the emotions of it all & the way it can tear friendships apart.
This book had a little twist when it came to the relationships Annie had with her parents, which wasn't something I saw coming expectantly, & sort of just felt odd to me in the story, but whatever.
I loved that we did see Annie become a stronger person throughout the book though. I did cheer for her through her whole freshman year.
So yeah, I did enjoy the book. Is it the best read of all time? Maybe not, but it was fun to take the journey back to high school for a few hours.
I learned of this author and her book from TikTok. My friend sent me a video by Joey and I immediately went to Amazon and downloaded the book. I have to say, it was one of the best books I’ve read recently. I read it cover to cover in about 5 hours. Even though it’s a YA book (and I am far, far away from that age group) I could still relate to Annie’s evolution from the girl that was quiet and blended into the background to the girl that grew more confident and stood up for herself. Highly recommend reading this.
I saw this author on TikTok after she’d been laid off and immediately jumped on Amazon to buy her book and help her out. This book exceeded all my expectations. It kept me turning pages until the very end…I read it in one day.
I never write reviews, but I did this time to help out a great writer. If you’re on the fence about this one, pick it up. It’s a sweet little book that will have you remembering freshman year with a smile while also being grateful you’re past all that.
This book will have you rooting for Annie from the very beginning. If you're a fan of YA novels, you'll love following Annie along through all of the changes, and challenges, of her first year of high school.
A fun little book that dealt with some pretty heavy content, but in a totally readable way. I find myself thinking about it even now, weeks after I've read it.
It took a couple of chapters for me to be able to fully immerse myself in this book. I have long forgotten what it is like to be a high schooler, wrapped up in school and boys. There were so many times I had a smile plastered to my face while reading. It made me thing of my high school sweetheart and the shenanigans we found ourselves in. It also made me think about how the events that happen as a parent can really affect our kids. As a parent myself now, I realized that our kids are so in tune with us and it really made me want to be more present for my own child as she grows into her teenage years. I don't want to be that parent that is never around because of work, etc. Yeah, Maybe was a refreshing read that you won't want to put down. There were scenes that made me cry and many scenes that made me laugh. But most of all, it reminded me of what it was like to be young. And that is priceless.
I want to first start my saying that I’m 42 and this book is better suited for a younger crowd. I liked the book ok, but it was a little slow and a bit boring and predictable and again that’s probably my age. I enjoyed the cute little love story, real life events with the parents and the friendship. I basically skimmed the ending and lost interest. I found the author on TikTok and truly loved her energy and excitement for her book so I bought it. I’d like to read something else from her to see what she can bring to the table. 😊
The writer effectively captures the adolescent turmoil and perspective during the transition from middle school to high school. The narrative is emotionally charged and heartwarming, illustrating Annie's character development through the lens of a young girl navigating the challenges of teenage life. The portrayal of Annie's evolving friendship with long time friends Laurie is particularly compelling, showcasing the ability to overcome hurdles and sustain their bind in the end.
So, What drew me to the book was that it was YA. BUT, also about friendship. Joey the a really good job making her characters feel real, Its the girl next door Or a friend of yours as a teenager. I was impressed, I was surprised I didn't know what was going to happen. I thought I knew... But, it Definitely wasn't a Typical YA book!! I look forward to reading her next book. I recommend buying this book !
I found this book because of TikTok. The author had been laid off from her job, and was promoting a book she wrote years ago to help supplement her income. I grabbed it on Kindle. This is a cute and easy read - a teen girl battling freshman year friendships, love, and family dynamics. It’s definitely YA, but was a nice palate cleanser after reading thrillers back to back to back.
I, like so many others, bought this book to support a lovely woman I saw on Tiktok. Lol. I honestly never thought I'd read it but so glad I did!! I'm over 40 and thought this book would be more for my daughter than for me, but this book brought back so many memories of who I was when I was learning who I was becoming. Well done, Joey. Well done.
Really enjoyed this, please support the author and buy
Like others, I bought the book because the author needed some financial support and posted her situation on Tic Tok. Well it was a wonderful YA book. Really well written and several good stories. The author has talent and can’t wait to read another one of her books. Give it a try.
I found this book through tiktok and purchased it to support the author. I'm so glad I did! This was a great story and I connected with the characters very quickly. I highly recommend!
Great story with all the highs and lows of becoming who you are meant to be. Through the stumbling of hormones and choices to developing maturity and true friendship.
Yeah, maybe is a wonderful book. It is an easy read full of every emotion. I am going to have to see is Joey Hodges has any other books. Would recommend reading this book. You won't regret it.
Quick YA read! Was sent the authors tiktok video, got the book for $2.99 on my kindle and read it in a day! Typical high school drama - a bit extreme in some of the situations/circumstances, but overall a good fast read!
I saw this author on tik tok earlier this year, having just lost her job she asked people to check out her book. I did not hesitate to download it then. I just finished this book and very much enjoyed the story
As far as modern YA novels go, this one covers the basics. Friend drama, mean girl bullies, romance, and a whopping dose of family drama- that might be better described as trauma. I listened to the audiobook, and Jessica Renee Ryan did a great job bringing life to the characters.
Was an easy read and somewhat relatable. Nice story, kept my attention. No filth which is a plus! Great book to add to middle or high school reading curriculum.
If you’re in a book slump or need a palate cleanser this is the book you should read! I loved the characters in this book, it took me right back to being 15.
Yeah, Maybe was an interesting YA read with characters relatable to anyone who's ever gone through high school. The main character possessed a lot of dimensions. At certain times she was heroic, and annoying, and caring, and self-centered. She ran the gamut of personality traits, not unlike many high school girls of a similar age. But despite her flaws, she easy to root for and someone that younger readers could look up to for her bravery and her ability to stay true to herself despite the pressures of adolescence. Joey Hodges created characters with clear voices and provided just enough mystery to the story to keep me wanting to read more and more.
I was hooked as soon as I started. It's definitely a light, easy read that deals with so much more than you'd think at first glance. Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure we have all dealt with the things that the main character does! It's easy to identify with Annie, and you're pulling for her every step of the way. Sure, she did some annoying, silly things, as did every character.. But they are teenagers, and that's what teenagers are like. I sometimes struggle with books about teenagers because I feel like I can't relate anymore, but this wasn't a problem with this book, I could probably relate a little too much! highly recommend.
This book hooked me in right away. I am a bit of a slow reader, usually I read a book over the course of about two weeks. Not this book! I literally read it in two sittings! I just really connected with the characters, it reminded me of high school and all the things that you deal with. I think this was the perfect description of what high school is really like for most people. There is always that one person that you let get in your head, you learn who your real friends are, and you start to learn what love is.
A truly accurate portrayal of high school life and emotions. It kept me enthralled the entire time, and there were some twists that I didn't see coming! This book will be easy for YA readers to connect to, and will bring adult readers right back to their teenage years. I would definitely recommend it!
Bought the book this morning & finished it tonight! An amazing debut novel which perfectly blends teenage years, lots of emotion and a coming of age story into a can't-put-down book. If you're looking for a good read, this book rates high on my list of recommendations!!
