Amazing detail. I saw Bogoras's work described as the single most complex account of a people ever written, and I'd be hard pressed to disagree. I'm reading his books on the Chukchi for a writing project, and it really feels like being there with him. The English edition is written in an easy and compelling style, with a lot of interesting anecdotes, and considering it was written at the turn of the last century, it's surprisingly respectful and positive. Great resource.

Bought this for 100 pesos (2 dollars) used at our local mall and, boy, was it a treat!

Bogoras' work served me as an introduction both to ethnography and the Chukchee people of extreme northeastern Siberia (Wikipedia: the shores of the Chukchi Sea and the Bering Sea region of the Arctic Ocean within the Russian Federation).

The most delectable of all were the vintage illustrations of clothing, ornaments, weapons, and native illustrations of their mythological creatures.
