This was another lianhuanhua adaptation of a European novel. This time the English language novel the Gadfly by the Irish author E.L. Voynich. I had previously read the English version of the novel so found the story easy to follow along with. There were several minor changes in this version. First of all they lost his Gypsy girlfriend which was a bit disappointing. In a lot of the Chinese stories there are courtesans and sex but I suppose maybe there was just too much to include it. The other difference was you learned of the Gadfly's adventures as they happened rather than as him telling the story. It was an inferior version but it was still really great.
