CSA Case Files #4

Campaign of Desire

Rate this book
Political campaigns don’t always go as planned…

Lach McKinnon, a former FBI Hostage Rescue Team Leader, was involved in a highly publicized and politically sensitive mission that went critically wrong. He has always taken responsibility for the three lives lost, though he keeps his guilt locked away. Becoming a team member of CSA has relieved him of similar assignments, however things haven’t really been mundane.

Phoebe Dunaway is a United States Senator’s daughter. She can be relied on to do what is expected of her. From raising her sister after their mother died to overseeing her mother’s legacy foundation, Phoebe has steadfastly been the responsible one in the family. Now aiding her father in his quest for the presidency, she finally realizes that ignoring her own needs might not be in her best interests.

Lach is given a VIP Personal Security Detail — protect Phoebe from a potential threat against her father’s bid for the White House. That’s easier said than done when the attraction between them sets the path of the campaign down one of blazing desire. Unexpected danger lurks around every corner and Lach must face his past demons if he has any hope of keeping Phoebe safe.

I was hoping for more suspense and action from the beginning then what there was.
This one and #3 doesn't have that heart pounding suspense throughout that I loved in the first 2 books.
That said, it was still a good story. Both Lach and Phoebe's characters were well portrayed.
The last five chapters had the excitement, danger and heart pounding uncertainty that made me a fan of Kennedy Layne's CSA series.

Thriller. Mystery. Drama. I knew I liked Kennedy Layne. This story pushed her to the top of my "always read" list.

Lach has been the dark horse in the CSA series. Always in the background, never a key player. Kind of a shadow, but not. I found that sexy from the beginning and knew that KL would do his story justice. I just didn't know how long she'd make me wait.... patience is not my good suit. Phew. I am blown away. I know there are more characters in the story but my mind races to stay right with him. Watching all his moves. Making each scene with Phoebe count for more.

Phoebe doesn't make the "chase" easy. She thought Lach was a one time thing. But she never stopped thinking about him. When he's assigned as her Personal Security Detail she knows she's done for. He's still the "10-word-sentence" guy, and he still makes her shiver. From the tips of her toes to the ends of her hair.

CSA team is here, but slightly in the shadows this time. I'm ok with that. This book is was so intense, you didn't need the rest of the team in danger or in the middle of things to keep it speeding along.

Kennedy, you need to write quick because this book was great but I need Case File #5- Jess and Crest( I hope PLEASE)!!This book and series makes you FEEL;...happy,sad, rage, suspense, romance and a lot more, but you'll need to read to feel for yourself!!!!! The journey of Lach and Phoebe sucked me in and I was surprised with each chapter hoping the book wouldn't end, asking for just one more chapter please, I LOVED THE ENDING!!!! Once again a well written story with great characters from the previous books in the series making appearances. Thank you Kennedy

Not as exciting

This story definitely felt like it was totally more about the sex than the story. The first 3 books had more suspense and action. This story was slow moving, and the motivations of the villains at the end really didn't come off as believable to me. I liked Lach, but Phoebe was so reserved that it was difficult to connect with her. I was disappointed and a bit bored. I'm debating continuing the series since the sex is a bit out there for my preferences. If I do, it will simply be because I really want to see what happens with Gavin and Jessie.

Wow this story was the best yet in this series. The strong man of a few words versus the ever ready politician's daughter. Sparks definitely fly but not until after they spend a substantial amount of time admiring each other from across the room due to circumstances outside their control. Destined to end up together.

The series gets better with age. Kennedy is becoming one of my fav BDSM writers, she knows her stuff from safe words, subspace and subdrop, details a lot of BDSM authors tend to leave out (or have no clue about).

Kennedy writes a vivid story but although BDSM lifestyle is a thread it doesn't dominate -- their is a larger picture here and that's the actual plot line.

I love Lach! He's brooding and doesn't say a lot but that doesn't mean he's not watching and observing everything. The chemistry between him and Phoebe is electric and it was nice to see how he introduces her to his lifestyles, for a socialite I actually warmed to Phoebe very quickly ( not something that happens often) and saw switcher tendencies in her (what a ride that could've bee )

Filled with suspension in the final quarter -- I was gripped! I hope this is not the last we see if Lach and OH MY GOD... Crest, I'm gunna smack you across the head multiple times with lots of frozen fish can't wait for his story! Internal Temptation is up next.

I have read all 4 CSA Case file books and I still love them. Each book is fresh but they also allow readers keep up with the characters from previous books. I found Phoebe and Lach’s story be mature, honest, and very sexy! I love Ms. Layne’s writing style. She does her research and pays attention to detail (with leaving some things for the reader’s imagination) without overdoing the details. I think when authors take the time to do their research it shows they care about the characters they are creating and the people who read their books. If you are looking for a sexy love story with action and suspense, tossed in with some hot former Marines and a little bit of kink – I highly recommend this book!

I'm still revisiting the books about an investigative agency that hires only ex-military people and mixes suspense and thriller with hot romance (BDSM). This is one of my favorites, because it's almost independent in relation to the background plot (an enemy that plagues every member of the agency).
It's not that it's very original, since it has the alpha/dominant male and all the platitudes about BDSM that we can read in the books that came after 50 Shades, but at least the women are interesting, they have careers and they are strong and very capable.
It's reasonably well written even though editing could be better.

I just finished this book. I felt like I waited forever for it but the wait was worth it. This was by far my favorite one. It had just the right amount of danger, suspense, romance and sex. I love Lach, such a stand up guy. What I like most about this series is that you dont have to read the other books for a great story. It does help to have read the previous books to understand some references and other characters. If you havent read any of the previous CSA books I urge you to. Cant wait for the next one.

I have loved Lach since he joined the team and was so excited for his book..I was not disappointed. I loved the dynamic between Phoebe and him..she is the misunderstood "rich girl" and he is the hard ass "my way or no way". Such an emotional roller coaster with plenty of super sexiness thrown in. Kennedy Layne once again hit it out of the park with this one.

Fabulous!!!!!! CAN'T WAIT FOR NO. 5

Kennedy just keeps getting better and better. Loved this one too! The details make me feel like I am there with the characters. The worst part about finishing her books are you can't hardly wait for the next one to come out!!!!!! Great job Miss Kennedy Layne.

Campaign of Desire (CSA Case Files 4) by Kennedy Layne
Another outstanding read in Kennedy Layne's CSA Case Files series. The characters of Lach and Phoebe were so well written and possessed such all consuming chemistry! There was plenty of action, suspense, intrigue and steaming sexual tension to keep me flying through the pages. Looking forward to what's next in book five.

What started out as a slow burn culminated into a fiery explosion! An introduction to Lach's case with Phoebe was given in Renewed Faith and in Campaign of Desire we get a close look at what happened behind the scenes in the previous book. Lach's always been the quiet one, and you know what they say about the quiet ones! As always tension was always high with the romance balancing it out.

I liked the story and the characters a lot. My main complaint is that it seemed as if the book had not been edited at all. There were so many grammar errors and word choice errors that it was distracting to read. And I've read all her books (again, compelling stories) but they could be so much better with just a bit of help from a good editor.

Outstanding

Leach and Phoebes story was intense. a little heartbreak at first and fierce at the end. Another team member has found his place in life. Will Crest let go and find his too? What about Ethan or Taryn? Who's next?

Each one of these CSA Case Files story seems to be better than the last. Loved Lach, and now I'm anxious for Taryn and Ethan's to release. Of course, the icing on the cake will be Gavin and Jessie's story. Can't wait for it.

This series just keeps getting better and better. I think Lach and Phobea are my favorite couple. I have wanted to read Lach's story since book one after the way he was with Lauren. Now I can't wait to get to Crest and Jessie. But on with the next book about Evan.

I used to really love the series. But now on this fourth book, the stories are blending in my mind. There are patterns forming and I don't like it. I can now anticipate who the next 'bad-guy' will be because of (again) the patterns.

Just not my favourite character, and lost the whole brotherhood of the CSA agency, as Ford was so removed from the heart of the group both in personality, and on this job. Story was OK on its own, but really wanted to get back to CSA group and the whole Ryland story unfolding. This book was a little removed from that.
