Toss in five-star meals, fabulous sex with her nearly perfect husband, Andrew, and a gorgeous new house … and Jana’s life is picture perfect before she hits the big 3-0. What more can a girl want?

An excellent debut, Laura Lexington shares a beautifully written story about strength and love.

This isn’t my typical read, but I loved it nonetheless. It was definitely a welcome surprise. While this book doesn’t focus on a “new” romance. The love between this couple can hold its own with any budding romance. It’s not often that I read about a married couple and get giddy with butterflies, but these two were hot and adorable.

There were so many layers to this story and I really enjoyed them all. This story focuses on more than Jana’s struggles at her job. It also focuses on her friendships, spiritual well-being, and transition from single carefree adult to parenthood. There are also several secondary stories entwined throughout the book that had my attention.

This was definitely a roller coaster ride as I went through an array of emotions. I found myself frustrated beyond words at the situations at work Jana had to endure; found myself laughing at the silliness between her and her husband and her and her best friend; swooning with her over her husband; and crying as her life had to completely fall apart to come back together.
The relationships throughout this book were authentic and developed well. With every friend she came in contact with I felt their connection. I absolutely loved the relationship between this husband and wife. Experiencing their marriage was like a brand new relationship. I loved their adoration, respect, and attraction for one another.

Overall, this was a beautiful and inspirational story that I devoured in one sitting that I would highly recommend. I can’t wait to get my hands on her next book, “The Song.” Although “The Storm” can be read as a standalone she did a great job setting things up for a spin of

The Storm is such a perfect title for this book. I kept thinking about this quote while reading "Life Isn't About Waiting for the Storm To Pass It's Learning To Dance In The Rain" - that is exactly what Jana did.

Jana has a great life - perfect as it would seem. Jana has a loving husband, great career and great friends. As we are always told when things seem to good to be true they usually are. Jana finds herself unemployed, treated unfairly and fighting to be strong. This is a great story that will take you on an emotional journey of love, friendship, and beliefs. I can't wait to read the next book! Well done Laura!

One of my favorite things about reading is finding a new author to enjoy. It was pleasure through a book blog I follow to be introduced to The Store, the debut novel from author Laura Lexington.

One of the strongest things about The Storm for me is that the characters felt very real. Being able to feel as though you can personally identify with something about the characters in a book makes for a stronger connection to the story. Jana works for Covington Company selling medical devices. She has worked hard to get to where she is in her career. Though her job is stressful, she enjoys it and finds it rewarding. She is happily married to a handsome up and coming accountant. While initially that may sound fairly “fairy tale”, the relationship between Jana and Andrew is portrayed in a way that is very realistic for their age and stage in life. Things are good between them, but their life isn’t always perfect. We see them face challenges and grow and change as a couple as they struggle to balance their individual dreams and desires against the things that are right for them as a couple.

The author also does a great job of adding to the story with the secondary characters. Grace is Jana’s best friend. They have known each other since early childhood. When Jana needs a sounding board, Grace is there for her. Rounding things out is Grace’s husband Gavin. Gavin is a police officer and they live in Fairhope where Grace and Jana grew up. Though Grace appears to have a pretty ideal life on the surface, we quickly learn that Grace suffers from Bipolar Disorder. It is clear from the way the author portrays the character of Grace that she put significant effort into making sure that the impact of Grace’s illness would feel authentic.

As the story moves along, things fall in to place for Andrew and Jana and transitions in their jobs allow them to move “home” to Fairhope and back to the support of family and friends where they ultimately hope to start a family of their own. As is often the case is the real world, getting what we think we want most doesn’t always work out the way it’s supposed to. Jana’s new boss with Covington turns out to be a huge jerk and her dream job starts to become a nightmare. And if this wasn’t challenge enough, Jana finds herself pregnant. While a family has been part of the plan for Jana and Andrew, the message has been very strong from Jana’s boss that motherhood is not compatible with success at Covington. Things start to go downhill quick

As the story twists and turns, we ride a roller coaster of emotions with our cast of characters. As they celebrate impending parenthood and struggle with discrimination and ultimately job loss, you feel for them in the same way you would if they were your sister, or friend or neighbor. Does Jana have the strength to fight Covington? How will Jana redefine her identity when everything comes crashing down? What will Jana’s new future hold? These are the types of stories that resonate with me. While the fairy tale stories where the boy rescues the girl and they live happily ever after are a fun escape from day to day life, there is an equally strong appeal to a cast of characters that you can imagine might live right down the street.

Among the many things I like about the story that the author has woven is the fact that while she has drawn Jana’s story to a satisfactory conclusion, she has left us with unknowns that invite us to continue to explore the Fairhope cast of characters in a future book. I look forward to finding out what the next chapter in the Fairhope story has in store.

This quote from the book perfectly depicts the essence of The Storm. This debut novel from Laura Lexington is not like my usual read. At least not for the past months. And I appreciate the heads up from the author, it set me up for a neutral and open mind rather than going in expecting a full on romance just from the synopsis and ended up feeling let down.

The Storm was anything but a let down, though. It was different all right but a refreshing different for me. It's not the hot and heavy love story that I've been reading quite a lot of. Personally, I felt it's more of a life story -- a life with love, career, friendship, the works.

This book mostly focused on Jana Cook's life, the challenges that she's been experiencing from her personal life and especially, her professional life. I admire Laura Lexington for bravely tackling the issue of gender discrimination in the workplace in this story. Incorporating such an issue that's not common when reading indie books and writing it well deserves a good pat on the back.

Jana Cook is happily married to the love of her life, Andrew Cook. I can't say that they are a wealthy couple but they were well-off, what with Andrew being thrifty with their finances (which I say is a really good thing, by the way). Andrew is like a traditional husband, he wants his wife to just stay at home and care for him and their future children, but like a modern husband, he is also very supportive of what Jana wants and as long as she's happy working, then so be it. Jana works for Covington Company, a medical device manufacturer. She's a medical sales rep and she loves her job until she was transferred and everything spiraled from there.

I thankfully have not experienced discrimination but I felt so bad for Jana and sympathize with what she must be feeling. I wanted to slap those guys who think they are better than a woman and Lord forbid that that woman turns up pregnant, then she's even more replaceable. If Jana was stressed out after her transfer, it was pure torture after her co-workers found out she was expecting. And this is just one trial in Jana's life. There's also her childhood best friend, Grace who has bipolar disorder who she's also worried about.

Everything about The Storm, although fiction, touches the realistic aspects of life which I'm sure a lot others would be able to relate to.

So if you are looking for a sweet and sexy read, The Storm may not do it for you. Oh yes, it also has several sprinkles of sweet and sexy, but overall, I would say that this is more of a serious life story than anything else.

Stars: 4 stars
Recommended to: Readers looking for a deeper, serious story that some women can most likely relate too.
POV: First person. Female POV.
Series: Yes but interconnecting characters.
Extra Comment: I love the mystical feel during the last few scenes of the book and I got curious with Gavin's, Grace's husband's, story. I want the best for him!!!

What a beautifully written book. I rarely read Woman’s Fiction, I’m more of a Romance fan but I am so glad I did. This really drew me in and held me captive, even when I wasn’t reading I found myself thinking about these characters; that really is the sign of a great book.

We follow hard working and successful Jana Cook as she struggles through a shocking amount of gender discrimination at the hands of her colleagues and boss, made worse by her pregnancy at the start of a promotion within her company. We watch as she sets out to prove that she still has what it takes to be top of her game, to the detriment of her health. I admired her strength and determination that hardly wavered. Her once perfect life was beginning to unravel and she handled it with extreme dignity. My only gripe about Jana was that she seemed to have a habit of burying her head in the sand in certain situations where maybe she was scared to know the answers to. That frustrated me at times but in that respect her flaws had me being able to connect with her more and showed her to be ‘real’.

Every character in this story felt just as real as Jana. Even the ones I disliked had a great depth to them. I have to say, Oh. My. Word. Jana’s husband Andrew was PERFECT. He has to be the most perfect book husband EVER! He has the brains, the looks, the personality and he is the most supportive, caring, swoony husband out there. Lucky Jana! No wonder they had so much sex!! The passion between them was scorching.

“You sing to Calla even though you can’t carry a tune because she smiles when she hears your voice. You bring dinner to sick neighbors even though your schedule is packed, and you leave extra tips on the table for single mothers. And the way you paint with your heart…if those things are not beautiful, nothing is.”
I melted, swaying in time to the music, wondering for the millionth time how I got so lucky to marry Andrew Cook.

Jana has some wonderful friendships, the closest being her best friend Grace. She was a breath of fresh air. She was so very fun and loveable but underneath she was complex, sad and maybe a little lost. They had a great friendship and their interaction and banter was awesome. They seemed to balance each other out so well.

Despite Jana’s huge amount of trials and tribulations there was a whole lot of love and positivity to be found, it was heart-warming. But, there was one point in this book where my heart shattered and I needed a moment to re-group. I could completely empathise with the moment and aftermath. This whole book has been written with care and accuracy. I could feel the pain, anguish, angst, love and hope portrayed throughout like it was my own. I honestly didn’t want this book to end.

Although everything within this book is resolved we are left with a cracker of a cliffy from the preview of the next book, The Song, Which I believe is Gavin’s book (Jana & Andrew’s best friend). I have to say, I am so excited to read his story! I hope that we don’t have to wait long.

What a debut novel this was! I cannot say enough good things about The Storm. This is about Andrew and Jana Cook and what a wonderful love they have. This is my favorite excerpt from the book and there is no spoiler:

After kissing Jana Andrew said "I'm a smart man, Jana. When I asked you to marry me , I told you that you would never feel unloved. I meant it."

"How are we different from other couples? We've been through so much, and we have so many differences...but we still want each other." Jana asked.

"Because we want to." He paused as she pondered his response. " I wanted to take care of you the moment I laid eyes on you. I didn't just want to fuck you. I wanted to kiss you. I wanted to talk to you for hours. I wanted to feel your body curled up beside mine every morning. I saw us in rocking chairs on the front porch in our seventies, laughing until we cried under the stars. I wanted all of you, and I always will. Love is not a feeling, Jana. It's a commitment. And I'm committed to loving you every day for the rest of my life, no matter what happens."

That is the kind of love I am sure we all want. The road that Andrew and Jana travel in this book has many curves but love carries them through. I look forward to the next book by Laura Lexington.

Hurry. Hurry and go one-click The Storm. I’m planning on writing a full review, but I want to get straight to the point ASAP – GO ONE-CLICK THE STORM!

In our little world full of dominant CEO’s, hot musicians, and gritty motorcycle clubs, The Storm is so unique and stands out from the rest. I mean, I love Kellan Kyle to the point that it’s maybe a bit obsessive and I would gladly go in Christian’s Red Room of Pain with him, but sometimes it’s nice to think outside the norm. Two successful people who are overwhelmingly in love, but have obstacles such as gender discrimination and suicide to deal with? I told ya, different and absolutely beautifully done. That’s the one word I keep coming back to. It’s beautiful. Gorgeous storytelling at its finest. Laura Lexington is going to be something major one day, so jump on this one.

I loved these characters, and felt so deeply for Jana specifically. She’s intelligent and successful. I love that she’s strong enough to accept what’s really happening in front of her face, rather than turning the other way. She’s not scared of confrontation, although she’d rather not have to. But when she decides to set her mind to something, she makes it happen. And on top of it, a large part of the book happens while Jana is pregnant or with a newborn at home. I just can’t imagine going through those experiences with all of those extra emotions on top, so it just shows how strong she really is. I also adored her relationship with Andrew. There was no doubt how deeply they were in love. It was so enjoyable that no matter what happened to Jana, you knew that Andrew would be there for her. Their connection and love was unwavering through all of the ups and downs they endure. No two people in a book could have been fit for one another and help one another more than these two. It’s honestly what I think all of us hope our marriages could be.

That leads me to probably what I loved the most about this book. It’s definitely 200% a romance novel, but it’s not about them. It’s about everything else in their world. It’s about hope, trust, love, and believing that things will work out for the better in Jana’s career and personal life. Like I mentioned before, CEO’s and hot guitar players are fun, but there’s nothing better than a novel set around reality. Gender discrimination is real. The fight to prove your worth is real. Bipolar disorder and suicide is VERY, very real. I love that Lexington wasn’t afraid to jump out there and touch on these topics. She didn’t shy away, and I think it made a simple love story that much stronger. Don’t get discouraged that it sounds too “serious” though. It has so many goofy moments tossed in. It definitely felt like it was perfectly balanced between Jana’s issues and the fun side of their relationship.

Laura Lexington has written one of the most beautiful stories I’ve read. I started trying to highlight phrases, but it ended up taking too much time because there was something to highlight every few sentences. Lexington’s descriptions used are unreal, whether that be for an emotion that Jana is feeling or how a sunset looks/feels. She builds a world, and we’re just lucky enough to get to live in that little world a few hours. She will make you feel their heartbreak, joy, and everything in between.

Overall, this novel wowed me. It’s always an exciting but nervous feeling to start a debut novel by an author. Will you hate it or love it? I promise you, The Storm is way above the normal debut. Lexington has written a gorgeous, romantic, and hopeful story that everything works out for a reason.

Disclaimer: I was given a complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

Jana Cook is loving her life. She's been given the chance to progress her career which means that her and Andrew; her hubby; can move back to Fairhope.

And so it begins...

Back in Fairhope with the support of friends and family; life is almost perfect. Her resume and track record with Covington Company are exemplary; and others would kill for her record. But that's just not good enough for her new boss. Jana discovers that she is pregnant, and when her boss finds out everything changes.

Jana now faces a huge decision, after Covington Company lays her off in "necessary cuts" she is devastated. But despite everything deep down Jana knows that her track record should have meant she kept her job.

The questions remain should she fight Covington Company? Can she win? Is she strong enough?

The answers...

You'll have to grab yourself a copy and have a read!! :)

The Storm has everything. Its packed full of so much emotion, from love, lust, passion, anger, hurt, fear and confusion. All of these emotions are so real.

The characters are also very realistic and believable. With each page and each event the characters grow and evolve. I also love how the secondary characters play key roles in the main plot and help to create more depth and reality.

The story is amazing, its a definite romance but it doesn't focus solely on that aspect. The story line encompasses other real life issues, like discrimination in the workplace, Bipolar Disorder, trust and intimacy issues.

Laura Lexington's writing style is fantabulous too! There is no confusion, things are explained clearly. The dialogue between the characters is realistic and believable. The emotion practically pours from the pages. I swear I felt my heart break (more than once). The pacing is is spot on; I never felt bored.

Laura had me hooked from the very start, right through until the very end. For a debut novel this is a fantastic start and certainly doesn't read as though it's Laura's first book.

I'm so please and grateful that I have been given the chance to discover this promising new author. I am now looking forward to reading Laura's next book; and Gavin's story!

A huge congratulations and well done on your debut novel Laura! I can't wait for your next book!!

A huge 5* from me! :) <3

THIS BOOK!!!! <-----my reaction. to. this. beautiful. novel.

"The choices we make today affect the course of our future charts for us."

I don't even know how to explain the beauty of this book. It blew my mind. Be prepared to find our main heroine hilarious, but also there are parts that really get you choked up. What I love about this book is the mix of female power and romance. The female power isn't so overwhelming that this book turns into a feminists dream, but it's prevalent and like that about it.

"Love is not a feeling, Jana. It's a commitment. And I'm committed to loving you every ay."

This is the story of the struggles after the HEA. After all the work Jana and Andrew put into getting their happy ever after, Jana finds that motherhood and work aren't all it's cracked up to be. After a promotion transfers both her and her husband back to their childhood home, Jana thinks life is gonna breeze on by, but even she knows a storm is approaching. And everything takes a tumble for the worst when she gets fired all because her and Andrew get pregnant, her bipolar best friend thinks her husband is cheating, and her hormones take on a whole new level.

"When you think you can't go on, I will wipe away your tears and replace them with a smile."

Overall, this book is one of my all time favorites. Go Read This!!! The writing is done so well. I loved not only the main characters, but I enjoyed our supporting cast too! Jana is brave and strong, and she just has this feminine aura that makes you wanna stay on her good side because you cross her and she's coming back for you. I'm rating this book 5 STARS out of 5 STARS... as if I was going to rate it any less!

The premise of this story scares me...does this kind of thing still happen? Have we not evolved yet? Why is it that the Boys Club can still exist?

Jana is a successful Sales Rep for a medical device company. She has worked diligently to achieve her high standards and the respect of her colleagues and customers.

Jana is happily married to Andrew who is also successful in his field. He is supportive and loving...and all that Jana has ever dreamed of. The icing on the cake would be a child to complete their beautiful family.

Priorities have kept the family dream on hold for some time, approaching 30 Jana is still not sure if she is ready. A promotion to territory manager helps her make that decision, putting her career first yet again.

The promotion brings her back to her home town, close to family and her best friend Grace. Her best friend since college they have been there for each other. Grace has struggled with mental illness for half her life...but their bonds of friendship never falters.

So what could possibly go wrong in this picture perfect world that Jana has? Anything and Everything. Jana falls pregnant, a happy surprise that soon becomes an emotional roller coaster. The company she works for is secretly anti mothers in the work force, doing all they can to edge Jana out of the company. Grace soon becomes pregnant but chooses to stop taking her meds while she is, soon starts to struggle with her life.

Jana is strong, independent, determined and most of not going to let life hold her back. But does she have what it takes to bring down a multi-million dollar company for discrimination? Can she help her friend through her darkest times?

A story filled with love and devotion, heartache and deception. A story that will have you feeling love and adoration for the characters and anger at the way those in power abuse it.

A wonderful story Ms Lexington, I look forward to reading more of your work!

Review for THE STORM by Laura Lexington

5 stars

Jana had a wonderful, a full life. A handsome, sexy, loving husband. Good friends. The only thing she could wish for was to be back in her hometown with her husband raising a family. After much work, saving and planning, she finally had it all. Well, almost all that is. She still was not ready to start a family. But Andrew had
different ideas. She would always remember that little voice saying,"be what you ask for."
Her life in her dream house in her hometown with the most gorgeous man around, was quickly starting to sour. Also, her new "partner" at work was becoming more and more belligerent, trying to sabotage her career. She was determined he was not going to stop her rise to the top! She was strong and confident, she knew what she wanted and she would have it.
The came the sickness. Every morning! She couldn't possible be pregnant! It was not supposed to happen so soon. Her plans didn't include a baby right now! As soon as word got out, her job became more and more stressful. It was affecting her health.
Then there was Grace, her best friend. The sister she never had. But poor Grace, she had secrets. Her life was not all it seemed to be. The perfect life she led along side Janas was fraught with trouble. She tried to be perfect, but Jana knew her better. Her life was out of control.
It seems God would have to be there to give Jana the fortitude to survive the future.en who To be strong for her unborn child, for her best friend, and for all those women who became target of prejudiced bosses She sometimes doubted God listened to her anymore. But all she could do is pray for strength and guidance as the storm turns her world upside down.

I found this to be a lovely read, very down to earth but very realistic. A well written book about not only having the perfect life but the perfect love, lose, tragedy, and rebuilding one’s life and getting over ones disappoints and injustice. While enforcing love, friendships, parenting and standing up for what you believe in.

Jana finds out what being tough is all about and finds she is stronger then she thinks she is. One must loose almost everything before one truly understands how lucky they are. Jana has a very trying time ahead with many road blocks. She must overcome a lot why she fights for justices and bring her family to where it needs to be.

There are a lot of wonderful characters from her husband Andrew who is very supportive to her sister Grace who must deal with hard issues as well. This story will bring tears to your eyes and love to your heart.

I am finding it hard to tell about it without giving this story away. I will say it touched my heart and will stay with me for awhile. I enjoyed this author’s style of writing but I did have a hard time getting into the read. Once I got there the author kept me there. This author will make you feel all kinds of things sometimes all at once. You will be happy, sad, want to cry, smile and feel the pain of the characters. This book is well names for they will have to get through the storm to find peace and happiness.

An amazing read for a debut novel! Laura Lexington takes the reader on a journey of ups and downs as the heroine is faced with dramatic events that slowly and meticulously pull the reader into the next page. Once everything comes crashing down for Jana Cook (the heroine) the plot twist will leave you craving the next story!

I adored the characters in the story. The primary characters are already married and it’s a nice change to start a story with characters who have been together for a long time. Jana and Andrew Cook are perfect together; the marriage bond that they have is genuine and Andrew such a loyal companion.

It was Gavin and Grace’s story that had me clinging to the page while I tried to crack the underlying suspense between these two. Needless to say, I did not expect such a dramatic turn of events. I was shocked and heartbroken; Jana’s reaction and emotions were brought out beautifully.

Laura Lexington succeeded in grabbing this readers attention and I NEED the next story! The cliffhanger is a BOMBSHELL!

I highly recommended this read for those who like contemporary fiction, chick lit, and romantic suspense.

Jana Cook was not born with a silver spoon in her mouth, but her fierce determination leads to a successful career in medical device sales. Toss in five-star meals, fabulous sex with her nearly perfect husband, Andrew, and a gorgeous new house … and Jana’s life is picture perfect before she hits the big 3-0. What more can a girl want?

When Jana discovers she is pregnant, she dives from hero to zero in the eyes of Covington Company. Despite a resume most would kill for, Jana finds herself unemployed and devastated. Challenging her employer could change her life … if she wins.

Does she have the strength to handle the gossip and face the likely reality of being blackballed from her industry? Andrew promises to never let her fall, will love be enough to spark the bravery she needs to survive the storm that threatens to overcome her?

This is Laura's debut novel and she did an amazing job. I love this book. The drama in Andrew and Jana’s life is real world everyday drama. The characters seem like real people.

I feel like I’m watching everything play out like this is my life. I’ve had the same problems that the couple is having. I felt connect to Grace and Gavin. This is an amazing romance novel with a hint of spiritual guiding.

This book is very inspirational. I can’t wait to read what Laura comes up with next. I was so emotional by the end of the book, it stayed with me for days.

I would definitely recommend this book.

I was given an ARC for an honest review.

Lexingtons title "The Storm" Says it all. By the end of the book you are going to feel like you have been through an emotional storm. No emotion wil be left out. You will laugh, cry, be happy, angry and sad etc...

If you are tired of sex on every other page and insta love this book could very well be for you. This couple is already married. The Storm gives us a story of what couples face in daily life. Also things the women face in certain men driven work environments. Don't worry for those of us who like some hot moments Laura gives us a few, but just a few because that is not the guts of the story.

The book had a slower start for me. Do not let this keep you from continuing the journey. Lexington is doing a fanatastic job of laying the ground work for the whole book and even the one that follows. Don't skim small things will be important till the end. (This is a HEA don't worry) The second half has a much quicker pace and she answers all your questions for Jana and Andrew.

The book does in in a bit of a cliffy, but the cliffhanger is not Jana and Andrew story. She has laid the foundation for the next book in her series from secondary characters. And hey if you are like me one of those secondary characters are going to piss you off!

Grab a kleenex, lock down your reading device and enjoy.

The Storm is Laura Lexington’s debut novel. This story is a well-written love story about that shows that determination, faith, and love pay off.

Jana is living the great life; perfect husband, perfect marriage, job, etc. She is a go-getter in the medical sales industry and is given a fabulous promotion. With that promotion she gets to move back to her hometown and live close to her best friend. At first everything is fantastic until she and her husband are in the process of starting a family. Her company does not take the news very lightly and decides to pretty much push her out of her job. This story follows what happens throughout her pregnancy along with her relationships with her friends .

I enjoyed this story and I’m surprised at how well written this debut novel is. The storyline is something that happens to women a lot and this sort of issue needs to be brought to the forefront. I did enjoy the extra-added drama that Laura inserted into her book with her work. I wish that we learned more about what Gavin, her best friend’s husband because I feel there is a very interesting story there. Also, I wish that the book had less religious tones in it. I think it was a bit much with a lot of the sex intertwined throughout.

This book was an enjoyable read and I recommend it to anyone who wants a fun, slightly angsty book.

An absolutely stunning debut novel from Laura Lexington, talk about blowing a blogger away with that talent!

I saw this book pop up on my Facebook and it instantly took my interest and I was honoured to receive an ARC copy from Laura.

Now onto the book…..

Jana is happily married with wonderful friends and a amazing husband until life throws her a few massive curve balls and I won’t spoil the story, you need to read it!

My thoughts

Laura has a beautiful writing style and he imagery and emotions in this book made for a turbulent reading experience.

A very powerful and inspiring story of building yourself up again after being torn apart.

This is not your usual Contemporary Romance, but I will leave that up to you to experience.

Jana is in for some tough times and she is such a strong character, and the storyline held my attention completely.

I love that this book is not your usual com rom it has mature issues and the characters make very hard life changing decisions.

Other Mentions

The secondary characters tore my heart out and I can not wait to see what will happen next in their lives.

Overall

I highly recommend The Storm, it was in no way what I expected and I loved it!

A complex and mature book with themes and issues my age group go through all the time.

Congratulations Laura on a fabulous début

I was asked to read and review this first-time author's novel. The synopsis immediately caught my interest, but I knew it would be a bit varied from my normal read.
I am VERY impressed, especially when I consider this is Lexington's first novel. Her style is catchy, witty, and kept my attention. She made me laugh, made me cry, made me wonder. There is a lot going on in this novel, but she weaved it together well.
As a working mom myself, I know exactly how Jana felt as she dealt with her issues at work. It is very difficult when you know you are being pushed out and you have no control over it. She created a very descriptive picture of the discrimination Jana endured and the emotions she dealt with while trying to learn how to be a mother. Without her job.
Andrew, Jana's husband, is precious. He held her up when everything else went wrong. To be honest, it was kind of refreshing to read about a sexy marriage without somebody cheating or whatever. This book does have explicit sexual scenes.
I will warn you. This read is not without tragedy. I didn't expect to cry, but I did. A mystery surrounding Gavin and Grace, Jana and Andrew's best friends, has left me dying to read her the next one.

Jana had the life...
The wonderful Husband.
The Perfect Job and friends she could count on.

One thing though...she wanted to be closer to her family. When the opportunity came up to move back they made it happen.
They found the perfect house.
They were now home near their family's. The perfect time to start a family, her husband thought.

But when it rains, it pours...or in Jana's world, boulders fell from the sky.

Okay so without giving anything away I will try to share my feelings on this story the best I can
Jana had a great friend in Grace. A best friend but the situation that unfolded was heartbreaking and I read forward as the tears fell. Poor Poor Gavin, and baby Emma.
Jana will never be the same after finding what she did on that horrific afternoon.

Her life became a whirlwind of unpredictable...

The Character Development was there, the intensity within the story line was there.

I know their is more to come with the ending being left the way it was and I must say I am intrigue. I need to know what Alexia King had that shocked Jana and Andrew. I have a unsettled feeling about what it may be a million different scenarios are running through my mind.

You have done well Laura Lexington...very well!

The Storm

I truly believe every woman who's a mother and a worker should read this. Does that mean this book is only about the trials and tribulations of being a working mom? Of course not. It's about a woman who's struggling to fight for her own rights as a woman in the workforce in a male dominated career path. Jana struggles to overcome the sexism and be there for her friend who is struggling with her own mental issues. I found this book to be something I'll always keep on my shelf for when I feel life is just a little hard. It'll be my go to book for when I just need a pick me up. Andrews, Jana's husband is such a strong and supportive man to her. He is her number one fan and this book conveyed those feelings to me. While Jana is struggling with her own turmoil, she sets out to help Grace, her best friend dealing with bi polar disorder and a huge sinking feeling that her husband is hiding something. Sadly, Jana is unable to help Grace. And a life is lost. I really just can't express the feelings I had with this book. So many twists and turns and overall physical feelings while reading this book, I just want to tell everyone everything but I won't. I adore this book and all of its lifelike situations. 5 stars and anxiously waiting for the next book!

I received this book for a fair and honest review. I found myself more interested in the book the more I read. I loved how the story is descriptive and so real. Jana is married to a sexy man named Andrew and they have a good life. She has a good job and they end up moving back to her favorite place to live. Her best friend Grace and her sexy husband Gavin live in the town that brings her back.. The story progresses with problems of Jana’s job and how she chooses the strength to fight the company head on. She also has to face so many challenges along the way, I felt the way she fights and leans on her faith is wonderful. Jana is a true fighter and the way her strength shines through the story is one of my favorite parts of how anyone can overcome so much. So many emotions ran through me as I read this story, and how close it touched me. It is a wonderful story of how everything may not be perfect, but the will to fight on to see the bigger picture is well worth it. I enjoyed this story soo much, and found the story capturing my heart and my emotions, before I knew it. I I would say this is a very good book to read and to tell others about.

Wow! What a storm of emotions this book was! Happiness, sadness, pain, anger.... woah! This book left me hanging and had me reading it in all one sitting! I could not put it down.

Jana has not always had it all. She however does move up in her company, which allows her and her hubby to live comfortably. However, a new advancement gives her lots of grief and heartache. Then there's the stress of her pregnancy and her best friends state of mind...

However, the one constant was her husband. Andrew is hands down one of my FAVORITE book husbands!! He's loving, sweet, devoted, caring, doting, protective all the amazing things you want in a spouse!!

The friends, family and co-workers make this a stormy read! However, they are equally amazing and grip you to the pages.

If you love an intense book with awesome characters and story line... "The Storm" is definitely for you! It's gripping, heart breaking and amazingly done!

And the intro to Gavin's book... OMG! OMG! It left me speechless and so shocked to find out more about this next book in the series! I can't wait until we get more of him!!

<3 5 amazing stars from me!! <3

Laura Lexington’s debut novel “The Storm” doesn’t disappoint. A story of love, the bonds of friendship, parenting and standing up for your convictions takes the reader on an emotional, heartfelt journey of discovery. Lexington builds the characters so you find yourself cheering for the main character, Jana, and empathizing with her struggles and pain as she loses her much loved job and seeks to find justice as well as her purpose. Lexington depicts the Southern town of Fairhope, Al with humor and charm and intertwines wit into all of her characters- the vivacious and bubbly Grace; the heart throb local police force hero Gavin; and the strong, supportive husband Andrew. You are sure to shed some tears along the way as well as laugh out loud at the small town antics. Lexington has demonstrated a flair for writing and will certainly have readers lining up to read the companion novel to find out what will happen to her rich characters. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more from this author.

I was given the ARC in exchange for an honest review

Let me say first, there is a happy ending at the end of this book, it just takes a whole lot of sadness, loss and pain to get there for Jana and her husband Andrew.

This book follows Jana, a very well paid and highly respected member of the Covington Company, one of the largest medical device manufacturers in the country and the challenges she faces when her and her husband return to their home town with their respective companies.

This book provides a very realistic portrayal of discrimination in the workforce, pregnancy and mental illness and how all these factors affect not only the person directly, but all others connected to them.

This book was well written and kept you waiting to find out what would happen.

An enjoyable read that can at times be upsetting due to the detail and the feelings the author makes you go through with Jana, but worth it.

First novels are not only hard to write, they're hard to rate. I wish there was a 4.5 star category, because I more than liked this book. That being said, as with many first novels, there were a few glitches, but the story far outweighed anything detrimental in the text. Lexington tackled some of the hardest subjects there are to broach in a novel, like mental illness and sexual discrimination, and handled both of them with skill and grace. The story moves along without pause, taking the reader from one situation to the next and keeping an edge-of-the-chair tension in the writing that kept my nose buried in the book when I should have been doing other things. While providing the reader with a satisfying ending for this story, she's left an opening for the next one, and I, for one, am looking forward to reading it.

First of all, let me just say Laura Lexington is a debut author in sheep's clothing. In other words, this debut holds every element of a seasoned writer and I can't wait to read what's next!!

I love how REAL the characters are, and LOVE reading a smokin' love story between married characters. Too many people believe romance straight-up dies following the honeymoon, and I'm thrilled to see a story where that's simply not the case.

Jana's description of "The Whisper".... oh I love it! And can definitely relate!

A favorite quote of mine from the story is this, "Paint what you see in your heart." What excellent advice and phenomenal reminder to us all, to lead with the heart.

Love it! Love it! Love it!

From the moment I started to read this Book, I was blown away!
It is full of Love, Laughter, Great Friends, Tragedy & Sadness.

If you are looking for a Book that speaks to you, this is the one Book that you should read!

At first glance, Jana seems to have it all, a loving & devoted husband, a awesome best friend & a successful job.

Then she finds out that she is pregnant & her carefully planned out life starts to fall apart.

This Book made me laugh, cry & it also made me want to kick someone's behind!!

For a Author that has just released her Debut Book, Laura has shown that she knows how to write a Book that draws you into her Character's Lives!

God whispers, Jana Cook tells us. Even in the midst of the storm, He's there. Despite losing the job she loved and entering into the fight of her life, Jana continues to believe and listen for the whisper. And I believed in Jana. She came to life through Lexington's eloquent prose. I cried Jana's tears and felt her worries.
Be prepared for a read that is racy at times but not inappropriately or uncomfortably so. The book is not long but I don't consider it a quick read either. The material is dense but so is Jana's struggle. I'm looking forward to the next book, The Song.

Wow! The Storm was definitely captivating! Taking the average family and real life and basing it on a situation that sadly does happen often! This book brought many emotions of excitement, passion, anger, sadness and wonder especially for the following book! I absolutely enjoyed the real mess and classy racy scenes that fit right into a marriage. Can't wait to read the rest! So excited! Love books like this!
