Rate this book

This comprehensive guide escorts the reader on a pilgrimage that reawakens, rethinks, and reveals the Divine Feminine in a multitude of sacred locations on every continent. Goddess expert Karen Tate takes her audience on a journey of discovery from the Indus Valley, to the Middle East, Europe, Africa, the Americas and beyond, introducing the feminine face of God, sometimes forgotten for centuries or repressed. Visit shrines, springs, temples, yoni stones, archaeological sites, museums and labyrinths. Examine the spectrum of evidence as the author clarifies mythologies, and documents the long history of Goddess reverence in many cultures. Tate outlines worldwide locations devoted to Goddess worship, from the moment self-awareness crept into the collective spirits of our ancestors, to the living traditions of Goddess practitioners today.

My life long best friend brought this side of beliefs to my attention during a conversation we were having on destinations to travel to she referred this author to educate me on the history of peoples and places across the world that is riddled with history that people do not talk about and discredit. This has been a unique look at known destinations with a history not on every tour guides reference pages. During this trying period of history known as Covid I have been afforded the opportunity to explore different aspects of unknown history. I don't know if I'll get to see these places in my lifetime but through research and this book I am their in the mist of what was really there and evolving in our history and present time. This book isn't your typical book that tells you which hotel to stay at, or where to eat.  Instead it tells you about the history of goddess in these places and how they were worshiped in ancient and now modern times. Although I have my very strong beliefs it is always interesting to read about a part of history I knew nothing about. I am sure if I ever get the opportunity to travel to these destinations I will fully explore the area in all aspects, leave nothing out. But for now I will do my research to its fullest not just was is overwhelming recommended, there are so many sides of history and the people who made that history.

Karen's book is wonderfully written, lucid, easy to understand, with incredible photos. I have the good fortune to be one of her friends as well. We have known each other about 9 years and I have attended her Isis Navigatums and some of her rituals. We are connected through several Egyptian goddesses -- Isis, Hathor and Sekhmet. Karen has literally lived her 2 books WALKING AN ANCIENT PATH and her first one, SACRED PLACES OF GODDESS, transformed her life through sacred rituals, immersed herself in sacred sites, created personal relationships with goddesses, lives in her own Temple, etc. She walks her talk!! Through her books one can begin (or continue) a path of Right Action, healing oneself, and the planet, and learning about the Goddess. I cannot recommend her books more highly!!

I finally picked this book off my shelves during Covid and read it cover to cover. I loved learning about the Goddess sites in the United States. Some sites require looking through a different lens or repurposing existing sites but what Tate suggests really makes sense - especially museums being contemporary sacred sites of Goddess as they house all her sacred artifacts and imagery. I might never make it to these many sites across the globe, but through Karen's writing, I feel as if I've done the next best thing. Oh, and there are some shockers waiting for you. Places you probably thought were patriarchal sites really began as sacred to Goddess. Why didn't I know that until this book? Nothing like it between two covers that I've been able to find anywhere.

It gives different view toward god, in form of particular gender and shows all religion have some connectivity as I am Hindu I worships both the forms of god Male and Female however sometimes it is criticized by other religion that we worship Yoni , Goddess , lady etc though they practice the same in other form.

Were this book professionally-edited (primarily to correct minor spelling and grammar mistakes), had a better layout (more white space on pages), cited more sources, and hadn't been missing what I would consider obvious sites, this could have been an essential travel guide. Even so, it's still worth reading if you are looking for a travel guide to give you some alternative views of traditional sites.
