Seven Sisters, #1

Will they make it to the wedding day?

Dex—a small-town cop with a sexy smile and a dark past—and the vulnerable but warm-hearted Honey Summers have decided to wait until their wedding night to sleep together, to give themselves time to prove they're serious about each other.

Dex's last girlfriend pretended she was pregnant to get him to marry her, but luckily he found out just hours before and left her at the altar. Waiting to sleep with Honey until after they're married means Dex doesn't have to worry about that happening again - not that he really thinks the sweet and gentle Honey would do the same as his crazy ex.

Honey has escaped from a previous abusive relationship, and she's relieved she doesn't have to think about the physical side of things for a while. Dex being willing to wait proves to her that he's serious, and it makes the wedding night an exciting prospect.

But events are gradually conspiring against them. Dex's ex-girlfriend arrives to stir up the past, and Honey is called to do jury service on a case that mirrors the events in her own life, bringing back all the old doubts.

The wedding is only a week away, but their big day hangs in the balance. Is their love strong enough to pull them through?

This book took me a agonizing amount of time to read because I just couldn't get into it, I wanted to stop at several points throughout the book but continued with the hopes that it would get better...it didn't. I just recently read another book by Serenity Woods that I enjoyed, so I was hoping to enjoy this one just as much. I was wrong.

This book is boring and has nothing to set it apart from other romances. The characters are a bit flat and their thoughts are redundant. Honey's character was in an abusive relation ships and carries a lot of insecurities because of it; causing her to continuously doubt herself and her relationship. I thought that Dex was a sweet guy and the beginning but after he makes a mistake he refuses to admit to it until he's caught. After this mistake we are continually reminded how much guilt he has for the events that occurred.

Another part of this book that bothered me was how often the fact that the hero and heroine are 'waiting until their wedding night' is thrown in your face. Everyone is talking about it: Honey's dad, her sisters, her brother, Dex's friends. It's just too much and doesn't seem natural. And throughout the book Honey is trying to convince her dad it's ok to move on and find comfort in another women. First off, her mother only pasted away a year prior. Second, who talks to their father about having sex again, it all was just too awkward and not realistic.

It started out cute, then it got stuck repeating over and over that he was so brave to do without sex for six months. Then it started delving into their pasts and I realized these people didn't need to be together or with anyone really until they underwent years of therapy. Years of finding out why she's such a doormat and why he sees himself as tainted. Instead the author just kept repeating herself over and over again as if this would make the fundamental flaws in her characters any easier to understand. And did she make them come to a self realizing moment, for Honey, "it would have been he didn't have any power over me that I didn't give him." For Dex, "it would have been I'm a good man." Nope, instead Honey is the victim till the very end and Dex continues to try to whitewash his soul. I was throughly disgusted by this book, and I will never read another book by this author.

First things first, this book definitely didn't WOW me. Everything was too fast paced for my liking. After a couple weeks of knowing each other, Dex Concannon and Honeysuckle Summers (yea, don't get me started on that name. I still can't make it work.) are already spilling their guts to each other. I get it when you just click with someone and want to share your life with them, but I didn't feel the click. After 6 months they were engaged to be married and were abstaining from sex until they marry because of their pasts.

I didn't get the whole trial thing that was going on in this story. Other than to connect Honey with her abusive past? I don't know. It just didn't work for me. And it drug out. I mean, you know you're about to get married the weekend that you were summoned for jury duty. I think MARRIAGE is a pretty good reason to get out of it!! Oh well. On to the next book in my TBR!

Contrary to some other reviewers, I genuinely liked this book. It’s a Serenity Woods book with a HEA, but I felt the problems faced were real to me.

Yes, it’s based in the Bay of Islands area of NZ, and yes most people are quaintly nice or evil in these books, but it’s a quaint place. It is a rich land and sea environment, and at present it’s a favourite destination for tourists. Why, because they all want to see what a paradise it is and envision what life could be like; particularly if you come from China, India, other too populace Asian countries, or the industrialized United States (virtually no guns).

This is more romance than erotica, but I’m ok with that. Please keep writing about deeply pleasant and decent characters living in a place as close to paradise as you can get, including the genuinely pleasant people who live there.

Talk about boring……..
And him meeting his ex and keeping things like that a secret doesn’t make him a hero but an asshole.
And think about his ex being very talented in oral sex makes him an absolute dick
7 day’s written on 444 long pages.
Nothing about their relationship development but just about the past and exes.
The way he acts and thinks around his ex is disturbing.
And he even thinks of her on his honeymoon night.
Wrong and red flags

A couple, both with pasts they would rather forget, find themselves overwhelmed. Firstly by a court case that reminds Honey of her abusive ex and secondly the vindictive woman who nearly ruined Dexter’s life turns up to upset their wedding day. Can they find a way to happiness together?

I didn't like this story. Honey had to have been one of the most annoyingist (I know it's not a word, I couldn't think of anything stronger.) characters I've ever read. Just not a fan, she seemed too stupid in my opinion. Her whole family in general seemed a little weird too. It's one thing for a family to be close and live near each other, it's another to have everyone (most of the kids) still living in the same house.

Why did it seem like Honey was usually referring to her parents by their first names?

So Honey and Dex meet, she confesses all her secrets and whatnot 2 weeks later and by around the 6th week(?) they're engaged. Wow. Can we say...Moving a little fast there? It seemed strange to me. I mean they both came from being in really bad relationships, to jumping back in extra fast with the next person.

What exactly was the point of waiting to have sex? They didn't even live with each other either. OR sleep in the same bed, as in just for overnight? It is possible for 2 adults that are attracted to each other to sleep in the same bed without having sex. And the fact that they told all their family and friends that they were waiting...why? Was it anyone else's business besides their own? The whole family togetherness was a bit much for me. Seems like that would have just added more stress to the relationship. Not knowing if the two of you would be 'compatible' in bed until the wedding night? Stupid. I mean they hadn't even seen each other naked or topless even. Wouldn't it be good to really get to know each other better, as in talking about what will happen in the bedroom. How old were these people again? Pre-pubescent teenagers?

There were a few catch phrases (I think) that confused me. For example:
1. Dex didn't need Rueben "reminding him how desperate he was to get his leg over."
2. "I'm sure Dex would appreciate me playing gooseberry."
3. "I felt like I'd swallowed a billiard ball." (Now I understand what he meant, but that just seems like such an awkward thing to say.)
4. "Rueben and I had a row last night."

That whole trial thing was...useless/pointless. Everyone thinking the girl guilty (which she was) and Honey just dragging it out? Yes, she could relate to the girl and what happened with her but seriously? She was guilty! And stupid question, but how were the jurors able to leave and go about their business and everyday life while the trial was happening? Like they could leave and go home, and whatnot. And Honey seemed to be telling everyone about the case which I know is a no-no. But when Dex asks her about it, she's all "I can't talk about." Same with leaving. Usually the jurors are kept in a hotel till the trial is done, because a lot of the time the trial is on the news. Honey with her all holier than though attitude when it came to her doing her 'civic duty' was such a joke! What woman would actually do jury duty the week of her wedding? Seriously? Honey was so annoying when it came to all that. I don't even feel like explaining more.

Another reason I found Honey to be annoying was all her worrying about Dex not showing up for the wedding. Again really? Yes he skipped out on his last girlfriend, but the circumstances were completely different. Honey just would not get over that. And saying that he had a 'habit' of doing that? It was ONE TIME! Or the fact that she believed what Cathryn had told her. Not being forceful until the last minute when she's trying to get Cathryn to leave the house. "Please leave." What more can I say? Naive and stupid to boot!

I feel like this should have just been a short story. It was really boring and just dragged on and on. When they finally got married, you'd think they'd get married and maybe a little of them having sex for the time would be mentioned. Nope, the author went above and beyond in that area. Throughout the whole book Honey is made to seem like a young, naive, not much experience in the bed type of girl. But then it turns out she wants to have all this sex with Dex. He can suddenly wait, but not Honey! The first sexual encounter with Dex, is with her legs wrapped around his waist while he's standing up. Huh? Anything he's done with past girls, she wants done to her. That was just a strange thing to say, in my opinion.

Needless to say, there was no character development at all. I found nothing redeeming about this story either.

I would not recommend this book.

The first book in the Seven Sisters series. I didn’t enjoy this book as much as I thought it would. It probably my least favorite troupe, ex-girlfriend comes back to stir up trouble. Dex and Honey are all set to get married and that’s great, they have been together for six months and getting married in a little over a week and because both of their troubled pasts they agreed to wait until they were married before they have sex, it leads to some very strong sexual tension. I almost want to classify this as a sweet romance, but it’s not. It’s not a light hearted story, it does make you cry due to the stupidity of men and the sweet acts of a man in love. What’s aggravating is when Dex’s ex-girlfriend shows up.

Honey still has self image issues and feelings of inadequacy due to her last relationship with an abusive man. She is scared that all those horrible things he said about her are true and that she will let down Dex. Dex’s last girlfriend lied about being pregnant to get him to marry her, needless to say that backfired, and now he is hesitant as much as he loves Honey the decision to wait is for the best. It proves to them and everyone that the relationship is built on something stronger than sex. A week before the wedding Honey gets a jury summons and it hits closer to home than she is comfortable with, it brings up old feelings and insecurities. Than Dex starts acting weird. All because the spite full ex shows up and that leads to a lie and a bunch of crap. Then after a very difficult day Honey is faced with Dex’s ex and all the crap she spits out. Honey calls off the wedding. It will take some pretty talking to change her mind.

I liked the family, being the first book in a new series it introduces the whole family and I liked what I read. I think I will look forward to the other books in the series, really depending on story.

I'm gonna start out by saying there really isn't anything WOWO worthy in the book, but it IS a sweet (no pun intended there) story and I did enjoy reading it, but it wasn't a page turner for me.
I really liked the family dynamics. I come from a large family and we also (well most of us) live in what we laughingly refer to as The Compound. I find nothing wrong with that. It's more a European/Latin this than a North American thing, so I can see how some US readers would not understand. But in this culture, it's very common for siblings to stay together until they marry or even after if 'The Compound' is large enough.
Honey herself got on every last one of my nerves too many times LOL She definitely would not make it on my friends list. She really didn't have a backbone that I could tell and she was quite whinny!
Dex was yet another character I didn't understand. I get the whole wait till you are married thing to have sex, but that normally is a virginity thing. Men don't go without sex willingly. At least that's my experience.
SO the point I'm trying to make is that these characters weren't exactly believable and real to me. They seemed to fake to real life to me. SO it took some of the enjoyment of the story from me.
I am hoping that as we read about the rest of the sisters and brother that maybe character development will improve. It normally does with writers so I'm not giving up just yet :)

Sweet as Honey is the first book in the series of The Seven Sisters, where the seventh on is really the brother. I actually thought I'd jumped into the series in a middle of it, just seems that I had missed a lot of the previous story.
I liked the family dynamics in the book, the siblings, the Cafe, the compound where they lived, the caring, but grieving father. The small town living, stories from the cop's day, people hanging out in the Cafe, where the best in the story!
The tale includes the timeline of a week before Honey and Dex's awaited wedding. Both Honey and Dex are broken, raw, by their past experiences in life, giving them insecurities and doubts of being worthy. And just a week to the wedding, they both have to face their past, Honey in the form of a court case mirroring her past life, and Dex's crazy ex shows up somewhat unexpected.
Lot of the story is focused on the celibacy Honey and Dex decided to have before the wedding night. I liked how the father turned up to talk to Dex, I wished they would have had some couple's counseling or something like that, since they both were so very broken with the inner doubts, and needed help with communication with each other.
If you enjoy sweet family sagas, with big families in small town setting in exotic New Zealand, this might just be the series for you!

"No. It's just...six months is a long time for a man to wait. I hope..."
She swallowed. "I hope I'm worth it."

I don't know where to start. I liked the story and I enjoyed it, I think the writing was great. But I also thought that the characters were confusing and the POV's were confusing maybe it was because of their pasts that they both became confusing to me or I don't know. I tried to weigh my feelings by the end of the book and I felt like, there could still be more to this book.
Honey and Dex is getting married at the end of the week. Both have waited till after the wedding to have the first intimate night of their life. Which is good for Dex mostly because of his crazy experience with his ex-fiancé who, by the way, is back to ruin their plans.
Honey is sweet and natural. It might've been because of her past experience with the last man she's been with or that was just how she was brought up. And Dex, he's confusing. He can't think straight but he's Sexy and romantic.
I think the twist was not that explosive and I feel like I didn't really knew the characters, given that the book was short but still, it could've thrown more information about the characters.
This book deserves my 3 star rating. Though it wasnt that big like any other books it was still a good read.

1/5 disappointing stars

Honestly I feel like this book just dragged on a bit. Everything was just repeated over and over again and it was super unnecessary. That really contrasted to the relationship between Honey and Dex which moved super fast - they hadn't been together for very long before they decided to get married. This was definitely a downfall to the book because there was so much baggage that Honey and Dex hadn't talked about yet and it made me just want to yell at them to get their shit together.
Overall it was just really hard to get into and to stay interested in and I think it should have been shortened and condensed so that it flowed better. The ending scene was really weird to - they go from waiting to have sex until their wedding night to Honey wanting Dex to do everything to her... It just seemed really strange because she went from this super naive woman to someone who wanted to experience everything in one night. Very weird in my opinion.
I feel really bad giving this only one star but I really just wasn't feeling it unfortunately.

****A gifted copy was provided by the publisher for an honest review****

This is a story about two people who have been scarred by life events from the past who meet and connect and are ready to try again but secretly are afraid that things aren’t what they appear.

Honey and Dex are getting married at the end of the week. They are waiting to have intimate relations until after they are married. Which is good for Dex because of his horrible experiences with his ex-fiancee who by the way is back , trying to cause problems for them.

Honey is very sweet and kind. She may have always been this way or due to the horrible experiences with her ex-boyfriend, her personality may have changed to make her an even better person. Dex, well he is confused. OMG, he sounds delicious and sex on a stick but he sounds so confused.

There are some twists in the book. Enough to keep the book going but there are some lags and some confusion. The author is a good writer but I felt this book wasn’t thought out enough. Dex and Honey were a good couple but that could have been great.

My rating: 3.5 stars ****

I really wanted to like this book because I thought the premise was great. Unfortunately I just couldn't get into it. I felt like this story was about 16 year olds who were playing at being grownups. Both Dex and Honey were really insecure and I felt like they were having the same issues repeatedly. It grew tiring and it took me a week to get through the book because I just didn't want to continue reading it. I tend to like Alpha males, and Dex definitely wasn't one. He had been hurt in the past, but instead of working through it, it stuck with him and brought him down for most of the story. There was also a subplot of Honey having to sit on a jury with a case similar to the abuse she had suffered. I think the author was trying to add depth to the story, but I felt the subplot took away from the story instead of adding to it. One thing I did like was how the author set up the next book at the end of this one. Overall, the characters were too weak for my liking and I felt the story drug on too long. I'd give this book 2.5 stars.

HEA-part of series
This was a sweet easy read. An ok read. Honey and Dex are engaged. They have decided to wait until the honeymoon to sleep together. They both have baggage from previous relationships. I enjoyed the family relationship. The characters were ok. There was very little excitement. There was some conflict toward the end of the book.
I am thinking the next book is about Daisy and Chase. I think that will be interesting.

Sweet as Honey was a sweet story. Honey really isn't all that strong of a female character, seeming to need to lean on everyone to help her through her problems. Not sure as to how I feel about Dex. At first he seemed like an overall sweet guy, but after one mistake, I felt that the reasoning sucked. I did like some of the secondary characters, and definitely want to see if they will get future stories.

I got this a an arc for a review, but I had a really hard time getting in to it, it had a good flow in the writing but it felt like it just kept repeating things. And the two of them had so many problems and things to work out it was hard to believe that they were together. I felt it could have been a little bit better on the plot and I might have been into it more.

I found this book to be extremely hard to finish. I did, but it took forever and I'm not sure it was worth it. It had its cute moments, but the whole book just seemed to drag. I wasn't a huge fan of the main characters and found them to be boring and predictable.

Seriously, a lot of the problems would have been avoided if the engaged couple had just talked to each other. Novel concept, I know.

I feel like I never got know the couple, though I do have a word of advise for Dex, woe be the day Honey falls of her pedestal.
