You're minding your own business after the game, buying drinks at the bar for your teammates when you overhear a woman talking on the phone. You don't know her, but she's telling her mother she's in a serious relationship with you. You decide to play along and ask her when you'll get to meet the parents. She's embarrassed and apologetic but explains she's just trying to appease her meddling mother. No harm, no foul. She'll tell them you're busy with hockey obligations and can't meet them for dinner, but she's also really pretty and you're single so you decide what the heck, it's just dinner, right?
Only it's not just dinner, because they invite you to their resort grand opening. Now, you're shacking up with the pretty girl, pretending to be her serious boyfriend until she slips and says fiancé, and now things have escalated a bit.
You tell yourself it's fine. Everything's fine. You can handle this. But somewhere in all the pretending, you start to fall for your fake girlfriend/fiancé and now you have no idea how to save your heart from whatever game this is.
No? That's never happened to you?
Oh. Well, it's happening to me.
I think I'm in trouble.
Saving the Game is a steamy standalone hockey romance intended for mature listeners.

OoHh lawd, 1.5 stars at very best! I REALLY, REALLY disliked this one....A cat named nutsack, purple penis jacking off game? talking about Dutch ovens and "transatlantic blow jobs" etc. this book was just very juvenile and gross. No class whatsoever. The behind the curtain blow job where she was like "oh thanks for the drink, I was thirsty" and all the scenes with the ex's were just SO raunchy and disgusting! Not even close to sexy. I try to say something positive about a book...I am struggling here but MAYBE other books in the series are better? 🤷🏼♀️ One would hope. Big, hard PASS on this one.
Srsly how do these KU hockey books keep getting me with their one good scene in a bookstagram reel??!!
The issues here were all a matter of craft. I hvnt read any other book in this series but none of the large supporting cast from prior books stood out because all the characters read the same, they all used the same phrases so the conversations between the mmc and his teammates were the exact same as the conversations between the fmc and the wags. It ended up being very repetitive and boring.
The stakes were nonexistent so the fake dating hijinks were minimal, and that really sucked the fun out of things. The author tried to say that the large group of friends was so great and funny but it was basically a bunch of 12yos’ dick and fart jokes from characters in their late-20s to early-30s and none of them were actually funny.
Oh and the first person present POV was super awkward, I did not like it.
This book was so fun! Kinsley who was the photographer at Hawken and Rory’s wedding shows up in the “team” bar and tells her mom (over the phone) she’s dating Quinton. He HAPPENS to overhear said conversation and agrees to fake date her.
The faking part lasts about two weeks 😂
She fell so hard and fast for him and he for her. So beautiful watching them come out of their respective bad relationship fog.
Such a beautiful story and I loved being back in this world again. I ADORED the tie in to another one of her books (Kamana Wanalaya for the Holidays) and I can’t wait to read about that one and Quinton’s sister! I love this team!!
Oh wow this was so good. And yes I am surprised I liked this so much because I didn’t love the last two (#3 and 4). I didn’t think any couple could beat Milo and Charlee but Kinsley and Quinton were definitely up there with them.
So Quinton and Kink (you’ll see why it’s her nickname) get into a fake relationship after Quinton overhears her on the phone with her mom saying she’s in a fake relationship with Quinton even though they don’t know each other. Quinton finds this hilarious and intriguing and decides to go along with the fake relationship.
I LOVED these two together. They were so freaking cute. Their banter was so good and they just fed off each other. Kinsley is a little awkward and quirky but Quinton fully embraced her and Kinsley made Quinton believe in love again after he had his heart broken. I loved how they were both petty when it came to their exes and they egged each other on, it was hilarious. I also loved how Quinton was not having anyone talk bad about his girl including herself and her awful mother.
This book was laugh out loud funny at a bunch of parts. Kinsley was hilarious and they were so funny together. The sex talk was a little better in this one (if you see my reviews for the other books you’ll see this authors dirty talk is not my fav).
The only reason I didn’t give it a full five stars was because there were some inconsistencies: at 60% Quinton is thinking “I think I’m in love with Kinsley” and then a little bit after he’s like I like her, could it be more? And then at 73% he again says “I think I’m in love with Kinsley” like he never said it before earlier in the book. Also Kinsley was wearing tights with her outfit and then in the next scene she wasn’t wearing anything under. It’s little things but it took me out of the story for a minute and had me like wait what? But aside from that it was such a great read!! Can’t wait for the next one.
NO CHEATING NO OP DRAMA (I mean their ex’s show up but it’s nothing really) NO THIRD ACT BREAK UP NO VIRGINS QUINTON DIDN’T COME OFF LIKE A MANWHORE NO PROTECTION USED
Saving the Game was 😂 laugh out loud funny! The banter and chemistry between Kinsley and Quinton is off the charts. The way that they stand up for the other is amazing. I love the way Kinsley fits in so seamlessly with the rest of the group too. Susan Renee always leaves me wanting more and dying waiting for the next book. Saving the Game was no different. Sometimes I wish I read slower so the book would last longer. Hurry and grab this one, I promise you will not be disappointed. ❤️
While he’s hanging out with the team at Pringle’s, Quinton overhears a woman on the phone saying she’s in a serious relationship with him. Intrigued by this woman, he hangs around to ask her about it when she hangs up and it’s all fireworks from there!
These two are so fun and quirky together! I smiled the entire time I was reading! Kinsley is all about positivity despite being raised rich but having a controlling and constantly disappointed set of parents.
Quinton is not a relationship guy after getting burnt by his ex. The guys on the team encourage him to keep an open mind when he tells them about the fake relationship he’s gotten himself into.
This whole series is so fun and I’m hoping there might be more in the future!
What would you do if you had enough of your parents disapproval of you? Move to another city? ✅ Do what you like? Check.✅ Lie to them that you have a rich boyfriend because the thought you might date a normal person is preposterous to them?✅ But how do you react when that supposed boyfriend hears everything and he agrees to go to dinner and meet your parents? You say why not, let's fuck with them. Problem is they invite you two to their new hotel opening and he says yes, eventhoug you agreed for just one time. His reason: an impending gala where his ex will be there with her husband, the one she left you for. No wouldn't it be funny on your stay at the hotel to run into them and find out that your ex is married to his ex and you panic and say you are engaged to your fake boyfriend 💍 🙂. Yep, all that happend. The moment your now fake fiancee 👀 how your ex looks at you , he gets all possessive and gelous and plans to show the ex what he's missing . You tell him you don't want to make him gelous because your relationship was toxic, he made you feel insecure. You ask if he loved his ex, he thinks he did up until the moment of the gala that he wanted you to attend this year ,she walked away from him straight in the arms of another man on the red carpet in front of everybody. And now you bump into them at your parents resort, and you think lets show them what they missed: you fake a hot sex session with your fiance. Every day you spent together gets you closer to one another and what once was fake is now a blury line where feelings are envolved but neither of you dare say anything. The moment you've been dreading has come: the gala you are suppose to help him with is over and you think is time to pack your bags and cut your losses l, even though you know this is the hardest thing you had to do. But because he is on his plane to get home to you and scared that you will live him before he gets home he confesses his love for you in a text. You can not be happier. Meanwhile all the girls that are pregnant are in labor so is a hel of a night, and after the kids are born, he says he wants to elope, to make him his wife, so you plan to go to Hawaii with all your friends and get married there. What a ride 🚘 .

SUMMARY: Quinton Shay is minding his own business buying drinks at the bar for his teammates when he overhears a woman talking on the phone. He doesn’t know her, but she’s telling her mother she’s in a serious relationship with him. She’s embarrassed and apologetic but explains she’s just trying to appease her meddling mother. Quinton decides to play along and ask Kinsley Kendrick when he gets to meet the parents. This leads to him pretending to be Kinsley's serious boyfriend until she slips, calls him fiancé and now things have escalated a bit. Somewhere in all the pretending, he starts to fall for Kinsley and has no idea how to save his heart from whatever game this is.
REVIEW: Saving the Game is the fifth book which tells the fake relationship romance between Quinton Shay and Kinsley Kendrick. There was the meet cute at the bar, the fake relationship to get her parents off her back while he got to show his ex-girlfriend that he was over her and all the fun times in between. A funny moment was the meet cute when Quinton overhears Kinsley say to her mother that she was dating him. This then leads to another funny moment when Quinton goes to Kinsley's house and meets her cat Nutsack.
The moment that Quinton really went off on Kinsley's mother after she passive aggressively insulted her. It was great to hear him insult her while also defending Kinsley and making sure she understood that he loves who she is. It was fun to read about her cat named Nutsack and how even though the start of the relationship had been fake they really started falling in love with each other because they enjoyed one another's company. Quinton was lonely while Kinsley was a bit insecure about having a romantic relationship with another man. I'm happy they let themselves love each other because they both deserve to be loved. I'm looking forward to the last book in the series about Zeke and his daughter.
I swear I say this about every book in the Chicago Red Tails series-every time a new one comes out- but this one was my favorite! Quinton and Kinsley’s story was THE best. I love that Susan write hilarious stories that have no shortage of spice and smut! This one was exactly that.
I don’t think I’ve ever laughed as much reading a book as I did this one. The number of passages that I had highlighted was possibly a new personal high for me. I’ve never annotated a book before (although I love seeing them done and the idea behind it) but as soon as I finished this one, I found myself wanting to buy a copy to do just that.
Another thing I love about this series is that while it’s a series, they’re more so interconnected stand alones in the sense that each player has their own book/story. Susan does a fantastic job of interweaving the stories together though and allows us to revisit former favorites in each book.
Quinton’s character was great, I loved how fun loving he is but so protective of Kinsley. Kinsley, I think, is probably my favorite FMC (female main character) in the series. Her family doesn’t appreciate her or love her for who she is..not only that but her mother doesn’t hesitate to basically tell her that every time she sees her. I love her character, who she is, and what she does. She’s 100% the kind of lady I wish I could have as a friend in real life.
Susan has done it again. Every book in this series has been a 5 star read for me and this one did not disappoint and continued right along in that trend!
That’s right babe. Just another famous hockey player.
I have read the other books in the series so far and have to say I think Quinton is my favourite story so far. Its just like any other evening drinking beers in the bar with the guys when Quinton goes to buy more drinks and over hears Kinglesy talking on the phone...enter fake relationship\ petty revenge tropes.
I loved these two together and their sexual chemistry is 💥💥💥💥 There were a couple on minor errors like spelling mistakes and some inconsistencies(one page kingsley is wearing leggings as part of her outfit, then they are suddenly gone on the next page, Quinton says about 50% in he thinks he loves her, then further in is saying could it be more) small things that didnt take away from my experience but could confuse readers.
I have really enjoyed book 5 and if you want the epilogue sign up to Susans newsletter and download it, every book has had one and it just gives you a slight insight into what happens next💓
As well as the main characters you get to see what other team members and their partners are doing which i also love.
Honestly so glad I found this series while scrolling through booktok and really look forward to reading Zekes story next
💥💥💥💥Fake Relationship 💓💓💓💓💓He falls first 💋💋💋💋💋lots of smooching 🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶Spicey
You know, I guess from the write up, I could see how the story was going to end, but it certainly didn’t keep me from falling headfirst with a full heart into the storyline. This book made me laugh hysterically, tear up at the way Kinsley’s mom treated her smile at both her name and the name she gave to her cat and my heart warmed at the way both of them fell deeper and deeper in love with the other.
I guess the only thing I would’ve liked more is, if the book had been longer, addressing their wedding, marriage, and possibly children of their own. However, I know there is an epilogue, and I am very hopeful that those things will be addressed there.
I found myself rushing to get chores done so I could get back to find out the next thing that happened in the book. When it was funny, it was absolutely hilarious. The things that came out of Kinsley‘s mouth and in the situations in which she found herself, were absolutely perfect. Both she and Quentin put the necessary people in their place and this book was so worth the read. It is most definitely on my reread list.
Quinton and Kinsley, I mean, Kink, (a truly masterful touch).... some of the best characters she has written. They are smart, funny, kind, caring, everything you want a character to be. Truly. You laugh with them, you wanna smack them for being dumb and ignoring what is literally right in front of them, and you cheer for them when they finally figure it all out. You will laugh out loud, you will swear, you will call people idiots (all done in the best way full of love of course), and you will legit smile so big when you get to the end that it feels like your heart will burst.
While this book is part of the Chicago RedTails Hockey romance series, it is a complete enough story with such well written characters, it works as a stand alone. It also ties in with a different book she wrote, again, so masterfully done, if you haven't read it already, this book will make you want to.
Another super HOT and hysterical book in this series! Compared to the rest of the guys on the team, Quinton and Zeke seem to be more quiet or reserved. This book definitely shows so much more of him, especially with Kinsley. Quinton over hears Kinsley on the phone saying she's dating him, so he decides to ask her about it. Once they start talking he agrees to go to dinner with her as a joke. While at the dinner Quinton accepts an invitation to Kinsley's parent's grand opening of a resort in CO. He does this to help her out and to ask her to be his date to a charity event where is ex will be in attendance as well. While in CO they run into both their exes, which happen to be married now, and Kinsley says that they're engaged. Fake dating to fake engagement, while falling for each other and not wanting to admit it. I loved this book and how Kinsley really showed Quinton's ex just how happy they were together!
Tropes~ Fake Engagement, hockey romance, He falls first, no third act breakup
✨ I could feel myself going into a reading slump and this book was the perfect fun and entertaining read to stop that happening.
✨ Quinton and Kinsley were so funny from the very beginning. Kinsley tells her parents they are dating and Quinton overhears deciding to help her out and fake date.
✨Their chemistry was amazing🥵🥵and I loved that it turned into fake engagement. Quinton was exactly what you want in a book boyfriend and it was so sweet to see him get his happy ending
✨ The found family in this series is still one of my favourites and I loved that right from that start everyone knew they were going to fall in love, I can’t wait for Zeke’s book but I also really don’t want this series to end😭😭
Quinton and Kinsley may be my favorite couple of the series. I love Kinsley’s spunky nature and the way that she fought for herself and what she wanted despite the discouragement from her parents. I also absolutely love how Quinton comes in and saves the day even though he doesn’t have too. Their interactions are fun and full of spunk. I love the way they feed off each other. If you love hockey romances, fake dating, and witty banter with random emojis than this is the book for you. I highly recommend this whole series. It’s full of found family and all the love you would expect to come with it.
Quinton is at the bar with his teammates. He overhears a woman telling her mom that she's dating him. He's intrigued. He listens to the whole conversation and goes up to her. This is too good of an opportunity for him to pass up.
Kinsley is a sweetheart. I hate that her parents treat her so badly. Quinton deserves the world. He went through so much with his ex. I love how Kinsley and Quinton met. How funny is it to hear that you're in a relationship when you're really not. The emoji thing was cute. Dinner with her parents is hysterical. Game night was amazing. I couldn't believe the coconut scene! I really enjoyed this.
Dex was my favorite of the series. Now it is Quentin!! I absolutely loved this book!!! It's so good!! Quinton and Kinsley are perfect together! Kinsley is so funny, quirky, and full of life! She is just perfect for Quinton!! They are so enjoyable, the laughter and jokes. Plus, the spice is through the roof! I loved game night 😂😂 and the banter between the guys in the locker room 😂. I can't pick one favorite part of this book. I absolutely love it from beginning to end! I love the communication! Quinton is 💯 book boyfriend material!!! I read this on KU, I will definitely be buying this book 📖!! 😂😘🥰💓💞❤️🤩😍🌶🌶🌶🥵🥵🥵
Kinsley and Quinton were such a fun couple and I greatly appreciate the lack of a third act break up in favor for this suspense and tension they gave us. What starts as a really fun fake dating situation quickly escalates to fake fiancé level and some forced proximity. I loved that journey for them! They are super playful and witty whenever they are together which kept it all so light and fun to read. When they got physical, they were super spicy and just perfect. This book was the perfect fun and easy read!
I really don’t know how I finished this book. So predictable, in every aspect. A lot of situations were so cringe that I was embarrassed for them. I didn’t like how they had already fallen in love with each other in such a short time. I really don’t like not finishing a saga, especially when I’m a book away from finishing it, but I don’t think I can stand another book like this. Apart from the second book that was a great reading this saga is a no for me, really hoped it would change but nothing changed.
Sure the fake boyfriend/fake romance is a common and predictable story but this was a new spin! I loved how the main characters met, loved their seamless interactions and loved how game night with friends turned into forever romance and friendship. The main character makes me want to a boudoir photo session because even though they are written as amazing stellar beautiful people, the feel good body image is relevant for us all! I’ll definitely seek this author out for my romance reading collections!
I was so excited to ready Kinsley and Quinton story . It was fun right from the start. I could relate to Kinsley almost instantly . Of course, the descriptions in this story, as with all of Susan's, are off the chart and make you feel like you could be watching it come to life . The fake romance is always fun to read . And of course, the red tail gang is together again. A must-read .. get ready to swoon, get hot and bothered, and have tears of laughter.
Susan Renee has another hit with Saving the Game! Quinton and Kinsley’s relationship is so very sweet and genuine considering the circumstances. The name of her cat is hilariously unique. Game night is hilarious! And the ending is fantastic, especially if you’ve read the rest of the series. Susan’s storytelling abilities are amazing and make you feel as though the characters are your own friends. Read this book, this series, all of Susan’s books!
I was lucky enough to read this as an arc. Every time I read a Susan Renee book i can hardly wait to read what crazy antics or hilarious banter she will come up with for her characters. She is the queen of coming up with both to have me laughing to tears. This book was no different. fantastic chemistry between the fmc and mmc as well as great banter and had me laughing more than once. Fake dating done right. a must read!
SWOON SWOON SWOON! I couldn’t put this book down. My cheeks hurt from the smile I had the whole entire time I read it. Quinton and Kinsleys chemistry was just a chefs kiss. The banter was top tier. I literally couldn’t get enough of it! I read this as a standalone but I will now be going back to the beginning of the series and reading them all! This author really put her all into this hockey romcom. 👏🏼
Susan Renee is the queen of Rom-Coms! I love her writing style and sense of humor. This series has quickly turned into 1 of my favorites. I laughed out loud more than a few times. I loved how Quinton and Kinsley met, or met again offically, right in the beginning and the book jumped right in. Sometimes the term "fake it till you make it" works out in your favor, and this story couldn't have been any cuter!
What do you do when your parents pressure you to live the life they're accustomed? Tell them you're dating a famous hockey player obviously! Susan did it again with this one! She makes you fall in love with the characters as they fall for each other. Kinsley fits in with the team and other characters seamlessly! Getting to see more of Quinton's sweet caring side was *chefs kiss*! The spice, the ice, and all the love with this fake relationship turned real hockey romance!
HEA Standalone, interconnected characters *over 18 readers only* Sports Romance, Fake Dating Chicago Red Tails series
Quinton 33 Kinsley 28
Quinton overhears a conversation about himself. A woman is telling her mom over the phone that she is dating him but that he's too busy to meet the family. Kinsley took pictures at Hawken and Rory's wedding, but she isn't actually dating Quinton. He agrees to be her date to dinner with her parents because it sounds petty and fun. Then, she agrees to be his date. Will this fake turn forever?
Nutsack is a character no one knew they needed until he was there. The tiny potatoes were awesome. I loved the way he put her mom in her place.
Loved it! Laughed out loud on the first page!! Loved this book, loving this series. The Red Tails sure do have their hands full. Quinton only wants to help Kinsley get her parents off her back... But then the snowball starts rolling and becomes unstoppable! This book is a lot of fun with some good spice and great characters. Loved hearing more from the rest of the team too. Don't want this series to end... Thank you Susan!
