Scared #2

Scared of Forever

Rate this book
Every lie, no matter how small, has some degree of truth.

Five months after moving to New York City, Emily is engaged to Blake Carson, future doctor and the man who she believes to be the love of her life. Until she starts to realize that the foundation upon which she’s building her future is based on a series of Blake’s self-serving lies.

Blake can’t let her go. He can’t continue to deceive Emily, either. But Blake’s biggest problem is that he has to maintain the life he has become accustomed to, at any cost. And that means keeping his overbearing mother happy, and keeping Emily ignorant.

Tyler Carson left New York City two years ago, happy to leave behind all of the Carson family drama. Until he comes home and meets Emily. Falling in love with his brother’s fiancée was easy. Protecting her from his family was necessary. Leaving her was almost impossible, knowing that he was breaking her heart, and his own.

Finding solace in her friendship with Tyler, Emily is forced to face the reality that Blake is not the man she thought he was. But neither is Tyler, the friend who gave her the clarity she needed, and then left her alone to pick up the shattered pieces of her life. Heartbroken and deserted, Emily has had enough of the Carson brothers.

But sometimes, love is not that which sends us soaring, but that which keeps us grounded. Can Emily ever bring herself to love another Carson completely?

Secrets, lies and lust-filled nights, all in the name of the screwed-up pursuit of happily ever after, Scared of Forever is the second novel in the Scared Series, which features characters from Scared of Beautiful, but can be read as a standalone.

Rounding up to 4 stars

I have to admit that I wasn't too sure about this book in the beginning. Scared of Forever is Blake and Emily's story. We first meet up with Blake in Scared of Beautiful and he wasn't my favorite character. But, the synopsis of this story drew me in, so I decided to give him a chance.

Blake and Emily become engaged only 5 months after being together. Emily believes that she has met the perfect guy. That is until she starts discovering certain things don't add up. Blake has a plan. In order to keep his lifestyle the way that it is, he must do whatever it takes to keep his mother happy. Emily is the answer to his problem. The perfect fiancee. Only he's keeping a big secret from her......Tyler is the brother who no one talks about. The black sheep of the family. He's been gone for 2 years and now he's come home. The last thing he ever planned on was falling for his brother's fiancee. He wants to protect her from his family and the lies that his brother has told her. But, what will happen when Emily learns those lies?? Lies will be discovered, hearts will be broken. Will Emily be able to put her life back together when it all shatters around her? Will love be enough??

I'm going to be honest with you. I didn't love this story in the beginning. I'm not usually a fan of love triangles and I take even bigger issue with cheaters. But, I wanted to give this story a fair chance and I'm honestly glad that I did.

Blake, I'm sorry, but you were a HUGE jerk! I hated the way that he treated Emily. He had no respect for her. And I'm not gonna lie, I was happy to see him get what was coming to him. I didn't find myself feeling bad for him at all.

Tyler....I loved Tyler from the moment his character was introduced. He was such a refreshing change from Blake. Someone friendly, who wanted to spend time with Emily. He was honest with her, and made her question things that didn't quite add up. And he was loyal and told the brutal truth, even though he knew the outcome would hurt him as well. He didn't plan on falling for Emily, it just happened. Emily and Tyler shared an instant connection and I couldn't help myself from rooting for them to find some happiness.

Scared of Forever was a super quick read for me. The story line was interesting, kept me wanting to know what would happen next and was told from multiple pov's. Scared of Forever had a lot of great twists and turns and had me feeling a huge variety of emotions. I was frustrated, and annoyed, but by the end of the story, I had a huge smile on my face. I kept going back and forth with my rating on this one, but the last 1/4 of the book changed my whole opinion of the book. Overall, I thought this was a good read and am glad that I gave it a chance.

Complimentary copy provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.

Emily wanted to start a new life, away from Cuba, there was nothing keeping her there, after everything that’s happened, she decided she needed a change. So Emily packed up and left for the Big Apple. What she didn’t expect, was that life in New York wasn’t what it was all made up to be, until she met Blake.

Blake is the typical high profile socialite, a guy any girl would dream of.. handsome, a doctor and all the wealth you could ask for.. some would say he was ‘perfect'. With the lifestyle he’s had, Blake is the type who got anything he wanted, especially women. But behind the limelight, Blake was possessive and pressured by the demands of his mother and in order to continue to live his lavish lifestyle, he must appease her demands. But was the ritz, the glamour, the wealth.. was this what Emily expected when she left Cuba?

Scared of Forever, is my favourite of the Scared series so far. The author has written a heartfelt, compelling romance novel, that will give you goosebumps and make you wanting more. The characters are very relatable, with Emily being so down-to-earth, who enjoyed the simple things in life and Blake, well we all have a ‘Blake’ at some point in our lives. I absolutely recommend this to anyone who enjoys reading new adult romance novels, it’s an easy read and you definitely will not be disappointed! I can’t wait for the next book!

Wow! Loved this book! One of the best reads I've had in quite a while!

It was well written, well-paced and kept me completely engaged. I always find it interesting to see how an author will create a situation that would make our heroine look really really bad in real life and how she writes her out of it successfully and keeps me vested in the HEA.

Being engaged to one man and then befriending his least favorite brother is a recipe for disaster. There were a couple of convenient leaps....how the mother in law from hell seems to rather quickly change her mind on which of her sons is her golden boy and how/when Tyler leaves and no one hears or gets thru to him for 8 months!!! Seemed like a bit of a stretch for me, but a relatively small part of the story.

In spite of the Epilogue, which I DID NOT care for, at all, (it made me cry and I really wish I would have stopped reading at the end of the book), or maybe because of it, I realized how vested in their HEA I was....theirs was a very real and a very true love and I appreciate the chance to have been able to read and review early.

Read it...be prepared to get sucked it and ENJOY! I am going to go back now and read the authors other books!

I received a copy of the eBook from Goodreads Never too Old for Y. A. & N. A. Books Read for Review group in exchange for an honest review.

This novel is cleverly told from three points of view—engaged couple Emily and Carson…and Carson’s brother Tyler. After a brief courtship, Emily and Carson are planning their next step, marriage. Tyler appears and everything changes. There is an immediate connection between Emily and Tyler. Life has become complicated. The author draws the reader into their world immediately.

The author keeps the reader guessing. There are so many unexpected twists and turns. The journey is fast paced and a true page-turner.

The characters come alive via their distinct point of view and readers discover the complicated layers of their personalities. Will Emily, Carson and Tyler have the moral fiber to be truthful? Will lies end any hope of their future happiness? And behind the scenes are the impressive secondary characters that add dimension to this read.

Lies have short tales…

I was given this book to read for an honest review. Blake is your social lite king who wouldn't want a Blake in your life, but Blake is controlled by mommie and sometimes that can be hell. Emily comes from Cuba wanting change, but soon finds out New York is far from different. These two characters fall in love with each other but hide secret that can break you. This book was heart wreaching, but an awesome love story.

This is book two in the Scared Series. Characters can be found in both books but they can also be read as standalones.

This is a really great love triangle told by three points of view. Loved the storyline .Emily is engaged to Blake. I so disliked Blake ggrrr. I was rooting for Tyler, Blakes brother.

If your looking for a really good book that will pull on your heartstrings then I recommend this book. Looking forward to reading more from this author.

*I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review*

This was a very emotional story – we had 3 POV’s, 3 different sets of emotions to take on board and deal with – it was awesome! I loved all the different story’s that came with each character. As a book on a whole it was again very much an emotional rollercoaster; I love how these books show you that mistakes can be put in the past and how amazing life can be once you get past them.

Emily is the sort of character I love books for. I think most girls start out like her, dreaming of their perfect man and unquestionably falling in love. I loved the development we got to see in her, she started to stand up for herself yet at the same time she felt so guilty for things that she couldn’t control.

Tyler is like my dream guy – apart from the whole issue of him falling in love with his brother’s fiancé... He was such a sweet and caring character, and bless his little heart; he isn’t very good at falling in love the right way – aka with someone appropriate or acting the right way about it.

I feel the need to say ‘I told you so’... I said in my last review I thought Blake was shady. Well. Shady, it appears, is not a good enough word to describe him; disgusting, disgraceful, dirty little liar feels a bit closer to the mark. It just shows how two faced some people can be. I hated the way his actions made Emily feel caged but I loved his role in the book as it made her a really strong character. I felt bad for him at the end but I think that was just due to his karma coming back to slap him.

I hate it but I feel like the loyalty Emily felt about staying with Blake – I would’ve been out the door long ago! – overshadowed her relationship with Tyler. I understand why it was necessary to include as otherwise the book wouldn’t have been very long or able to end the way it did. (The ending has the potential to make and break hearts, I loved it but at the same time I cried my eyes out because, feels, the feels.)

Although I gave it a lower rating than the first book I think this is my favourite of the series so far; it was such a powerfully emotional book and I love books that can evict really strong emotions from me – if I don’t feel anything it’s not done its job as a book; unless of course if it’s non-fiction... wow that’s off topic! This book was amazing!

I read this book as a standalone.
From the description alone I knew I was getting into a love triangle situation... but by the time I had made it to about page 15 of the story, I had pretty much decided that I already hated Blake. That factor alone softened the blow of the tangled web of two brothers and a girl they love. Something else that caught me by surprise was the fact that there was A LOT of stuff going on with the characters besides this one huge thing. The backstory we unravel was full of little shockers that help us understand the truth of the Carson family and how the estrangement came to be.
There was an abundance of familial pressure on each brother, both for similar and also very different reasons. Tyler and Blake both handle the pressure from their demanding mother very differently and I think as much as this was a love story, it had a story of reconciliation as well. The problem I did have is that I wish we got to see a bit more of the actual reconciliation, especially between Tyler and his mother. It seemed that their very strained relationship was very easily healed to me.
Speaking of easy... the amount of insta-love that happens in this story was at epic levels. For this reason especially I don't think I every really liked Emily. Being young and innocent is one thing but I found her naivety exasperating very quickly.
Tyler Carson was my favorite part of this book. I found his character refreshing and despite his own insta love issues, when we get to know him deeper as a character, it isn't so hard to forgive him for it.
While I was okay with the ending I was left wanting. I wish we would have had a bit more information to inform of the reasoning behind some of the decisions both Emily and Tyler made during their time apart. Also as sweet as the ending was, I felt like it was all on warp speed and it was over as soon as it began.
I read this book in one sitting on a Saturday afternoon. I'm giving it 3 Stars.

5 stars

I absolutely loved this book. It was great to get the three pov of tyler, blake, and emily. You got to feel what they were feeling at that specific moment, which made you feel that much closer to the characters. Finding your first love is always an experience that you want to have and emily found that. Blake gave her what she needed, security, love, and stability. That's what love is right? Finding out that love could be much more than that was not what blake wanted her to find. This is such a memorable book because of all the passion, lies, secrets, and love in the book that you will have a book hangover for days. The raw feelings make you not want to stop reading until you know everything about the characters in the book. The author did such a good job telling this story and showing love has so many decisions, even though some are wrong, but you eventually find the right path.

Emily starts out as this very vulnerable woman and becomes this strong, independent woman to deal with. This books prologue was very good. Blake this strong alpha, wants this girl, he gets this girl, wants to marry this girl. He accomplishes it, almost. They are engaged but they never set a date. Why? Well blake ha tons of secrets and emily is oblivious to them. So as life goes on emily comes in and bumps into a brother that blake has never cared to mention, tyler. Tyler is this all around honest guy and just so happens falls for the his brothers fiancée. Lines become blurred, lies become truths and secrets start coming out. Can you be in love with two guys or is one only convenience?

This author is awesome she made a book that could have been told horribly into such a great book. You don't see good and bad here. You see goodness, forgiveness, tough life decisions, hope, redemption, and love flourish in this book. I can't wait to read more from this author. Sent from my NOOK

While I'm not a huge fan of the love triangle, Jacqueline Abrahams did a great a great job of making me hate Blake quickly, so the rest of the book was smooth sailing.

Emily finds herself in New York all alone after losing what little family she had left. She's been there for five months and finds herself engaged to the wealthy, charismatic, Blake Carson (in my opinion, the only thing redeeming about this guy was his name). Blake is a medical resident and stays pretty busy and pretty late working at the hospital, or so he says. Emily has lots of time on her hands and that spells trouble for her fiancee.

Blake Carson has to work for nothing in his life, or so it seems on the outside. The "good one" as compared to his brother Tyler, all Blake has to do is keep mama happy and the family name out of the mud. This happens to be a lot of pressure for Blake and to make all seem well to his mother, he finds the innocent Emily and decides to make her his wife. To him Emily is everything he is suppose to want and will turn the other cheek when he needs her to.

To round out our love triangle, we have Tyler Carson, the black sheep of the family. Not wanting to live under his mother's rule. Tyler left the nest early and rarely comes back. On a stay over in between jobs, Tyler meets his brother's fiancee and is instantly smitten.

The busy Blake leaves Emily alone enough to spend time with Tyler and the more time she spends with him, the more she learns Blake isn't what he seems to be. At. All. Things turn into an huge mess and Emily decides she's done with both Carson brothers and the heartache they caused her.

Scared of Forever is well written and may have changed my opinion on the threesome genre a bit. Jacqueline Abrahams did a great job making you like her characters, even when you probably shouldn't.

I received this book in exchange for my honest review.

I loved the first book in the series and this one did not disappoint. I am not a real fan of reading love triangles but this storey was so much more then just a love triangle, it had so many twists and turns in it.

Right from the beginning I was not a fan of Blake. I didn't really like him in the first book and this book made me not like him even more. He was so selfish everything needed to be about him and money, did not care about anything else. Emily was sweet, at the beginning I wan't much of a fan you can tell she was young and inexperienced in relationships as everything moved so fast and she got so caught up in the love she missed the important things going on around her. Closer to the end of the book I liked her so much more, she finally figured out who she was and became strong to deal with the situation that was handed to her on her own. Tyler was perfect, he was super sweet and romantic. Yes he made some mistakes to but he made up for it.

I am not sure how I felt about the instant connection between Tyler and Emily, could not really feel it to much at the beginning. Also not sure about the instant forgiveness that happened between Emily and Tyler/Blake's mother and Tyler and his mother.

There was so much to this story I just did not want to put it down, wanted to see what would happen next.

I look forward to reading more from this series.

I received a complimentary e-copy of Scared of Forever in exchange for an honest review.

Right from the start, I was not a big fan of Blake's. I don't like that he started something with Emily when he had someone else on the side and he definitely should have never gotten to the point of getting engaged to her, no matter what the pressure was from his mother to have someone acceptable. So when Tyler came to town and it was clear that he was not a big fan of Blake's or of his overbearing mother, his likeability was off the charts for me. And it helpled that he seemed to understand Emily and she felt so comfortable with him from that first moment.

I liked Emily, but I'm not a huge fan of books that involve cheating, so I wasn't thrilled that the story was going to involve a love triangle that involved Blake, his brother and his fiancee, so I wasn't pleased when Emily made a few of the choices that she made, but I knew it was going to happen, so just sat back to watch the aftermath. I love that karma has a way of coming back to bite hard. And I was hoping that something good would come out of this for Emily and that she'd have the chance to find her happy ending with the man she loved.

Scared of Forever was well written and flowed very well for me, despite being a taboo type of story for me. This is the second book I've read by Jacqueline Abrahams, and I'll definitely keep my eye out for more from her.

I thought Emily was the kind of girl who just needed to get away from everything she known, and been through. So Emily packed up and left for the Big Apple. What she didn’t expect, was that life in New York wasn’t what it was all made up to be, until she met Blake.

I have not read the first book in this series. That being said, for the first few chapters in this book, I was kind of turned off to this book. I am not sure if it was the writing itself or the characters point of view.

With this being a new adult book you are expecting some steamy pages. However I dislike how these characters meet and are instantly together. Call me old fashioned, but I kinda like getting to know about the characters and their backgrounds before I just start reading about them jumping in the sack together.

Blake seemed very conceded and self serving. I am guessing the author wanted him portrayed this way, to allow you to like the story she creates with the other main characters.

Emily is the typical, naive virgin girl that you often read about.

I really enjoyed the Tyler character in the story, and the effort he put into capturing Emily's heart. I honestly think he is the redeeming character in this book.

Overall I don't think the story line is completely bad. It started to get more interesting about half way through. And it ended with a HEA, with a lead into the next book in this series.

I feel so special that I have had the privilege to read these amazing books in this series before they have been officially released.
My total honest opinion about this book is this one is my fav and it's going to be hard to top
Emily and Blake's story has a very unique story line yes it's a love story but I loved loved loved this story line from the very mention by jac.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review.
This was an exhausting read to be honest but worth the time. Emily is adorably naive and Blake is just a plain ole ass or is he? I think the author tried to give you a glimpse of his vulnerability but also his arrogance which made me question his likeliness. His skewed view on life is based on his controlling mother which I'm not quite sure I liked how her story fit in at the end but overall the book was great. The relationship as read by each point of view is one of bliss and fantasy and the other is just of selfishness and disrespect but not necessarily directly intentional, if that makes sense. The two go so well together its shockingly good. It's also hard not to take sides throughout. I loved the authors introduction and departing of Tyler. I am a huge believer in Karma and almost feel sorry for Blake. The characters were well developed and the plot intriguing. The wasted time was shameful on all parties involved but made for an exciting end. Thanks for allowing me to read this.

I was a bit weary of how this book would end when I first started it. I really loathed Blake's character...his attitude about life, spoiled and selfish, everything handed to him on a silver platter. The idea that a person growing up in a life of money must have this fake facade with the perfect wife, presenting the perfect picture to society, while secretly having affairs and feeling as if you have a right to do as you please, disgusts me. THANK GOD FOR TYLER!

He truly was the only redeeming thing about this story. Granted, for just a short bit he was a bit of an ass. He certainly redeemed himself in the end. I do, however, wish the author had not skipped that entire year. I feel like we could have gotten a more solid, indepth look at who Emily truly is if the author had told her story of that struggling year for her.

I need to go back and read the first book in this series, and I look forward to reading the rest.

I received this book for my honest review.

This is the third novel in the sacred series but can be read as a stand alone.

Emily is engaged to the love of her life Blake but slowly she realizes that Blake has been telling lies after lies. Then there's Blake's brother Tyler who immediately feels a connection to Emily and she feels it too.

Like the first novel, this one is also told in the point of views of Emily, Blake and Tyler.

For the moment Blake was introduced I didn`t like him but the author did a good job with the character. Emily and Tyler were well developped and you want to root for them.

Since it`s a romance story, a love triangle had to be included. A lot of twist and it was an enjoyable read.

The author did a good job with this series. A great read for romance junkies.

Wow, talk about romantic complications. There are 3 POVs in this story so three people you may want to side with or maybe just one. Emily was the character i most connected with, just because she was like every woman who wants the dream man but they do not come about and the one man who sweeps you off your feet could be the one you least expect in this case Tyler. Tyler he is the guy you will want and bless him he has such good intentions but when the heart falls for someone you may not be able to fight it. Blake argh i did not like him so much, he had all the qualities on paper but not in his person. I have not read any other books in the Scared series but that was not an issue as this book can be read as a stand alone novel. An enjoyable read that flew by, my heart belongs to Tyler i do not know about you.

Goodreads first read.

I have to say I found this a quick read and not because it was particularly gripping just that it felt unsubstantial somehow. As intended I disliked Blake for his behaviour and treatment of Emily and liked Tyler a lot better. But I though Emily was weak and far too naive which made her hard for me to like. The huge flip in the character of Eliza didn't quite feel genuinely believable much less that she would have kept Emily's secret even from the apparently less favoured son.

For me I'd have liked to have known more about the events of the missing year how Emily found the strength to make the choices she did and perhaps understand better Eliza's quite radical personality change.

I will saw this is a love triangle but a great one.

The story is about Emily a waitress. She meets her soon to be finance while serving him a drink. What she doesn't know is that Blake is very rich and his family is very high society. Is Emily leaving this fairytale or not .... Once Blakes distant brother comes to town she questions her relationship. Is Blake everything she thought or does Tyler have a motive? The story is great and a very good interesting read

Blake - what can I say about him. I know I hate him but his character is so well written.

Emily - she is this good girl but she has spunk. Everything you love about a heroine.

Tyler - he is just a poetic sexy free spirit

I loved this book! Okay, now that is out of the way...
The story of Emily and Blake and Emily and Tyler is well-written, brilliantly paced and emotional. I loved seeing Emily grow, figure out her own self-worth, realize what she really wants and goes for it boldly. Blake is loathesome and pitiful at the same time. Tyler is fabulous: sexy, smart, vulnerable and loving. Their mother starts out as expected: mommy dearest wrapped in Chanel. But, she too redeems herself as she sees her sons in an honest light. Loved, loved, loved it some more!! Can't wait to read more by Ms. Abrahams!!

I received a copy thru Goodreads first-reads program. I always feel like I don't do the book justice as I am not good with making wordy, beautiful reviews. I can say the book is about a young girl who meets Mr. Wrong which leads to Mr. Right. There is romance, some 'intimate' moments, and a guy that really needs to get himself together. I did enjoy the book and would definitely read additional books by this author.

I had a hard time getting into this book. With the first few chapters I wanted to stop because I hated the Blake character so much. But after a few starts and stops I pushed through. I was presently surprise that as I continued to read that I really enjoyed the book. The introduction of Tyler turned it all around for me. It was a good read and I enjoyed it, but it won't be on my read twice list. Thank you for sharing a copy with me.

I really liked this book by Jacqueline Abrahams. It was a well written book. The story line had be so captivated in this book I just had to keep reading couldn't put it down. Made me laugh, Cry. When plots were exposed. Blake & his mother made me gasp. You have to read it to find out why. This was my Favorite book of the series. Now I want to read more about jackson and so I will read Infinite Fear can't wait to read it

loveeeee Emily and loveeeee tyler. I hateeee blake. I wont give away many details because itll ruin the book but lets just say...the blake at the end of scared of beautiful is not one and the same. or maybe he is we just didn't see his pov. Emily is a character u have to love. tyler is the perfect man from beginning to end. this book is another perfect.

this is the first book in the series I have read and therefore had no knowledge of the characters.
firstly I am glad that I didn't actually like Blake from the beginning as my instincts are right and he was a wrong `un
a good story all in all with a few twists here and there
