I enjoyed this book. It's not fantastic, but it's ok. Maybe even good. And I am tempted to keep reading the next book in the series. But I know there are 5 books so far, and I have a feeling there will be more. And I am not a fan of everything now being spread out in as many books as possible.
In fact it is starting to annoy me. I understand it is something writers do to make money, but I don't feel like splitting a series up into 200 page books is a good way to do it.

Rant over.

The story is good though, and I might one day carry on reading. But not until I can be sure the series has been finished so I know what I'm dealing with.

Barely 2 stars (I've had my coffee so I'll round up).

I didn't particularly dislike this book but I can't say I liked it very much either ("it was ok" is a perfect descriptive despite being a low rating). First of all, the e-copy I downloaded is severely damaged and none of the usual 'free flowing text' works at all (my copy even has two copies of the same book in it). If the book hadn't been free, I'd be very irritated (you get what you pay for, huh?). Seriously, self-publishers please note: this isn't that hard to get right!

More importantly, the writing is abrupt and the descriptives in key sections non-existent. Moon has an interesting story to tell - which in many ways is reminiscent (read: a poor man's version) of John Scalzi's amazing 'Old Man's War' series - but seems in a rush to get it finished. I mean, we're on one planet for only a few pages? It seems like that entire scenario could have been handled in much more depth. After a while, the entire 'transfers' of the soldiers just seems herky jerky and far too hastily managed.

The characters - or better said the mech characters - are developed fairly well (love the nicknames) but the rest of the Universe and its local inhabitants are not given nearly enough examination. If we're looking at intergalatic war and eventually deciding who is in the right and who is in the wrong, we need a little more than the occasional grumpy being of higher (?) intelligence passing in and out of frame.

And someone correct me if I'm wrong but how did we get from 800!!! years travel to a situation where humans have been working with the 'bad guys' for only 40 years??? The whole loss of continuation sat with me from the beginning to the end and I'm not sure I want to keep reading this series to see if that mystery gets solved. Yes, it's sci-fi but yes, this kind of thing matters if you're reading with your eyes open!

In terms of continuing, I have another Moon book on file - "Apex" - and if its any good, I may consider looking at Book 2.0 in our mech series. But for now, particularly with such an unsatisfying and again very rushed cliff-hanger ending, I'm not going to prioritize it very highly even if the price is low.

It is probably pretty good.

However, it is a long introduction. It does end, after a fashion, but everything is up in the air.

A lot of it, unfortunately, could be seen coming from a distance, just as I was sure it would not end up in a cliff hanger, but rather "stop"...and give the suggestion of buying the next book.

Look, I get it, writers write to make money. But I simply do not know that if you to invest in the next book, the author will know how to finish it. Not end it...finish it, close the loops, solve the dramas, etc.

So, good characters and fair situations, but again, it would have been great to see how it ended.

With no expectations or really ideas going in I kind of found this book through a science fiction search on iBooks for Apple. I thought this idea was very interesting. Dying of cancer and you have a choice of becoming someone’s servant for who knows how long. It really makes you think what you would do in the face of death. The rest is also a plus of space espionage and interesting story. I would say it’s worth a read, especially if you love science fiction, robots, deceit, and aliens.

Loved this story! Fast paced! Never know what will happen next! Suspicion and conspiracy throughout!

Made me laugh out loud and audibly gasp as I was reading this! 😆😯The only other book I've read to similar affect is Scott Hawkins' "The Library at Mount Char."

Echoes William Massa's 'Silicon Man' and its prequel 'Silicon Dawn' subject-wise.

Hoping Adam Moon's other books are just as good!

What a great story! I really enjoyed it a lot. Seemed predictable at first, but it wasn’t. Very fast-paced and engaging. Now I want to read the rest of the series! Most free kindle books are utter crap, but I’m happy to report that this isn’t! Highly recommended!

An intriguing book

This book has interesting characters as well as an intriguing storyline. It’s worth the time to read. Enjoy the intriguing story as the main character finds out what he is

Behind the curtain

Even though the 'looser doing good' theme drives the story ,the reader needs to look deeper to see author creativity. Author ties loose ends at the ending like fishermen lines on opening day of trout season. Good series lead in.

Reads as if written for a seven year old.

I hate this book.

I just stopped reading, not caring in the LEAST “what happens next.”

This showed up in a social feed, so I figured "why not?". At first, the couple-dozen pages at the beginning...I was starting to regret the purchase. The set-up was a bit of a stretch - even by space opera standards. However, moving into the book and living through the action and character development, I engaged and plowed through the story. Moon doesn't break code and provides a complete story within this launch of a new series. The end was satisfying and some fun twists-and-turns filled the pages. The style, length and content of the book could jump-start the imagination of a 12+ reader!

This is the story of a young man who is dying from cancer who is given the opportunity to be healed by alien technology. In exchange, his mind will serve the alien benefactors (in a mechanical body) while his body is being healed. He finds out that he is not the only one who has been given this opportunity but things are not so very cut and dried. This is a great story that has the feel of iRobot. I like that it doesn't get bogged down with long battle descriptions or alien politics. I will definitely be reading the next book.

I've never read a book like this before now, but I really enjoyed it. I found it interesting trying to decide which side was the good one. The only parts I disliked were the cursing ("GD" was used several times). However, I might read the next book in the series since I'm curious to see where the story goes from here.

Another freebie from Amazon.

Interesting take on the old space opera style book.

Intrigue, deception, big mechs, big guns, conflicting emotions of the characters.

Well worth a read, I will definitely be getting the next one to see where this series goes.

It took me a few months to finish this book but that wasn't due to a lack of interest. I thought this was a great read especially for a free Kindle book. It was well written and engaging. The characters were likeable and the plot was engrossing. I'm really looking forward to the next one.

do I like it? I read it, and there were times I was cheering for Zero! I love my space opera, and military is the best, but for some reason, I just couldn't "become one" with the story and loose myself. it was a struggle to finish.

didn't enjoy this book

I didn't enjoy the story, too many plot holes, the chapter names were silly, the plot just didn't work for me

Good but I most likely won't continue on in the series. Without dropping any spoilers, let me just say there is a reason why the series is called 'Mech. Chronicles' and not 'Human Chronicles'.

Author Adam Moon packed a lot in the pages of this little book. The great characters, premise, and the setting descriptions filled my imagination to the smoky brim.
