Best friends Amber Brown and Justin Daniels are taking a vacation together! There's just one problem - Justin's little brother, Danny. He always wants to tag along. Can Amber find a way to make Danny go away so she can have Justin all to herself?
Paula Danziger was an American children's author. She wrote more than 30 books, including her 1974 debut The Cat Ate My Gymsuit, for children's and young adult audiences. At the time of her death, all her books were still in print; they had been published in 53 countries and translated into 14 languages.
Neo and I tackled yet another Amber Brown story. Amber and her next door neighbour, as well as their families, are headed out on a vacation to the Poconos. On the way, young Danny Daniels helps explain why three year-olds should not be on long car rides. When they arrive, Amber and her best frien, Justin, explore the property, where they notice so many things to do. After a little skirmish, they agree to have a sleep-out in the backyard, where the camping options are perfect. Waiting for their fathers to arrive, Amber and Justin eagerly plot out their time. When the time comes to make a fire and sleep in a tent, at least one member of the household is less than impressed. By the end, Amber realises how amazing time with family and friends can be. Neo liked the story and felt it was pretty easy to read. He has come to enjoy this series and we will look for more adventures soon!
What a Trip, Amber Brown is an interesting read for children's picture book lovers.
I didn't fall in love with this story like I had hoped. The trip and camping adventure sounded exciting, but the plot and characters were all over the place. I didn't see the point of the plot, other than everyone went on a trip and Amber got upset with her friend. The moral of the story seemed kind of weird and I felt like the story didn't really come to a full stop. It just felt very random to me.
Overall, it's a fun picture book to read and dive into if you're looking for another story.
We listened to a few audio books last night and this was one of them. I wasn't very impressed and while Julia liked it I could tell it's not something she'd pick up again. I doubt she'll even want to read any Amber Brown books. I don't want to imply that it's a bad book - it's not - it's just not a favorite of ours. We listened to a few books yesterday evening besides this including Chester's Way by a favorite author of ours, Kevin Henkes, our very first Madeline book - Madeline by Ludwig Bemelmans and Anansi and the Magic Stick by Eric A. Kimmel. My reason for listing the exact books we finished last night is because I think these books are why we didn't get so into What a Trip, Amber Brown. We both love all of Henkes books and we both fell in love with Madeline and agreed we have to read them all. Anansi is still new to us but we've read a few and they're worth reading and we've liked them so far. So in the end, this one fell flat for both of us. IMO this story is a little on the long side and being that the story is on the long side I'd expect the wording to be slightly more mature. Maybe a few contractions, etc. It seemed almost like a long toddler's book which was strange to me. There are a couple giggle-worthy parts but with so many kids books and characters out there I doubt either of us will have the desire to revisit Amber Brown.
I think this book would be wonderful for young children who are in the 1st-2nd grade range. This novel is interesting, and also would be enough of a challenge that a young reader would not be able to read it like it was nothing. This book also has great illustrations that would allow a young reader to be able to visualize what the story is saying. The story is also relatable in that many young children also go on vacation and many also struggle with dealing with other kids much like how Amber struggles to connect and deal with Justin. The only reason I went with 4/5 stars is that the book jumps randomly from scene to scene, but that it to be more expected with children's books.
I guess we're reading these books out of order. This book is about Amber's vacation to the Poconos and it's about the first week. We've already read It's a Fair Day, Amber Brown, which is the second part of their vacation. Oh well. It's a fun story and a good way to talk to kids (especially only children) about getting along with one another. Our girls especially loved the "sleep-out" part where everyone slept in a tent in the yard. We've really enjoyed the books in this series and will definitely read more.
Another light-hearted adventure from Amber Brown's early childhood. It was also from this story that I got the "Poke-A-Nose" joke. You see, Amber and her friend Justin are going camping in the Poconos Mountains. And for fun, they literally poke each other on the nose and say, "Poke a nose!" :D I still like to do that with my cat. :)
I like Amber Brown. She has a strong character, and the author has a good 'voice' for her that I can actually hear. This book was fun with the family vacation and the different dynamics of taking your best friend with, of the mom's alone with the kids initially, and then the dads showing up. I liked and it and would recommend it to others.
This book was ok. It really didn't grab my attention due to that it didn't have a lot of detail that I thought it was going to have according to the title. It was a good family trip oriented book that centered around the family being together no matter how young or old.
This book was okay the illustrations really helped to tell the story but there seemed to be a lack of details. Although it was a little confusing I think there were excellent messages about inclusion and facing your fears.
I read this out loud to my kiddos and although it was a quick read, I thought it was terrible. The story and characters were boring. With all of the great children's books available, I felt that this one wouldn't stand up with the rest of them.
Amber Brown books. Wow. HILARIOUS! They're SO much fun to read. VERY entertaining. These books are for younger kids though. lol. I read them when I was in 2nd grade. xP
My daughter really liked this book. It was a bit long for a bedtime story, but very cute and she thought it was very funny. The pictures are very good too.

Cute story.
back cover--Best friends Amber Brown and Justin Daniels are taking a vacation together! There’s just one problem—Justin’s little brother, Danny. He always wants to tag along. Can Amber find a way to make Danny go away so she can have Justin all to herself?
Amber Brown and her best friend Justin are going on vacation together. Once they arrive at the vacation house, Amber and Justin plan a campout with their dads. Overall, this was a decent story. On the audiobook version, Amber and Justin sounded too hyper for some reason. They never seemed to stay in one activity for long.
I think younger listeners would keep better attention if the author had picked 1 or even 2 things to happen in the book. The side quest for being mad about the pool splashing meant attention had waned by the end of the book.

Amber and her best friend Justin go on vacation with their families. They have an argument and then make up and have a sleep over in the back yard in a tent.
I haven’t read Amber Brown since I was in grade school. I forgot how much I love her! She’s so sassy and proper with her language. I’m a fan! My favorite in this story was Amber and Justin call it the “Swimming Ool” because his mom said there’s no “P” in “Pool”. The best was later she says it’s probably a “Swimming Pool” now because Danny is in it. I DIED. 😂😂😂
