This is the first time of me hearing of this author but I have to say I truly enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more of this author's work.
The story is about a young man who hears his mother’s murder. He is taken in by a great aunt and meets her charge and they bond as brother and sister. Later the young man, King, decides to get revenge on his mother’s killer. Honestly this story was all over the place. Points of view switched between characters so often, it was hard to follow. There were so many side stories, background information, sub-plots that did nothing, it was like reading a soap opera style story, but without meaningful resolution. For the main plot point being revenge there was a lot of story about King growing up in the projects that did nothing to further the plot. It read as uninteresting filler material. It turned cliché as the two main characters – King and his sister Starr- became the super smart, super popular super badass people that somehow came out unscathed. The epilogue tried to show how the characters had some moments of growth.
I received a advance copy, an let me tell you this book was good. It was like watching a lifetime movie. King mother was deaf and couldn't understand him, he was hurt because she couldn't understand him, he wanted to tell her so much but didn't know how cause his butt was too lazy to learn how to sign..lol... Then tragedy struck, King was left feeling alone with a mission on his mind. He gain a crazy sister from his aunt, fell in love. But still on his mission.... Buy the book you will enjoy it.
I really enjoyed this book it was different then all the . Sex and drama books. I felt sorry for King as he went through life holding on to so much pain. Was really happy when he finally got closure. What Am I talking about get the book and find out lol
This is my book Review for the novel The Day the Walls Cried by Snook warning: this review may contains spoilers
Let me start by saying I do not usually read a lot of urban fiction, but I am so glad I read this book. This is a story that seemed so real, so tangible. There is a unique authenticity of the writer's words. Our young hero comes into existence as a father absent male of a young and beautiful mother that is disabled. She is as fierce as she is beautiful and refuses to let her disability get in the way of raising her son. She loves her son King and he knows it and thrives under her love and devotion.
They are plagued by one tragic loss after another. They lose the family matriarch early on and are plunged into a merciless urban jungle where everyday alive is a gift. Young King has to grow up fast and hard, fighting regularly for his honor and the sake of his mother who is disabled.
This story is multi-layered, the characters work seamlessly and are full of life and drama. Author Snook takes you deep into the mind and lives of the characters and holds you there breathlessly waiting for the outcome. As the plot is revealed you are rooting for the characters and hoping out loud that they make the right choices. You will find yourself at points holding your breath, your heart breaking with and for them. This story reminds us of how important each choice we make in life really is.
Author Snook has managed to capture the emotions, the environment, the lives of these characters and draw you into their world in The Day The Walls Cried. They each have there own voice, personality and their own story. You will find yourself smacking your lips as they sit down to dinner and your heart breaking as one more tragic event unfolds. I can't say that this is a happily ever after ending but second chances are in order. If you enjoy urban suspense fiction, this is a must read.
Jasmine was born a little different then the rest of the members in her family, so naturally when she realized she was having a baby she wanted to make sure her baby was born with what she considers to be normal. After tragic events take place in the family Jasmine and her son King are forced to move into the worst housing projects in the city of Richmond. Having to leave an environment he grew up in his whole life and forced into a new one King has to quickly learn to survive to the Richmond streets. Kings life drastically changes one day when his mother is attacked in her bedroom and he can hear her screams through the wall of his friends bedroom. Haunted by his mothers screams and the blood he saw he is determined even at a young age to seek revenge for whoever harmed his mother. As King gets older and his past collides with his present will King be able to go through with the plan his been planning for years?
This is a really good book. I read it rather quickly. Looking at the title I wasn't really sure what to expect but when I decided it would be my read of choice I was glad I picked it. King is like any regular kid in the hood. He has to grow up fast and learn to adapt to his surroundings because if he doesn't then he won't fit in. Growing up with a mother that was different was difficult for King because he always wished that he could communicate with her and tell her all about his day. The day his life changed was very hard for him because he couldn't understand who would want to harm his mother in anyway. The book kept me wanting more I wanted to know who did it and why, I needed to know what would happen next. I was surprised to find out the outcome of who did it. I liked kings character especially as he grew up because he didn't let coming from a particular area stop him from being who he was. I recommend the book and think people should read it, I enjoyed it.
At a very young age King faced adversity, his mother Jasmine was deaf and mute and although they shared a special form of communication it was difficult growing up in a rough neighborhood with a mother with a disability. That difficulty intensifies once Jasmine becomes the victim of an horrific crime. Too young to protect his mother King vows that he will track down her attacker. Author Snook takes readers on a journey as King grows into adulthood still fixated on seeking revenge.
The Day The Walls Cried has a touching premise readers will wholeheartedly feel King's pain as he first deals with his mothers disability then the pain of her senseless attack. While King's character was well developed other secondary characters were underdeveloped resulting in a story that started off strong but dragged in several places. The ending while not predictable was somewhat anti climatic and could not make up for the previous lulls. The saving grace for the novel is the plot which showcased strong family bonds and helps the novel to be more than just mediocre.

This was my first read by this author, and I must admit that from the very first page, I connected with this book on such a personal level. King and his mother truly touched my heart, and I found myself quickly wanting to reach into the book to comfort him. The Day The Walls Cried is a heartwrenching story; I actually had to put the book down in the beginning, because it had me in tears. Author Snook truly takes you through a gamut of emotions; she has written a range of characters that practically leap off the page to tell you their story. The characters are believable, the plot flows rather smoothly, and I thoroughly enjoyed my time reading the book. I'm looking forward to reading what Author Snook comes out with next! I'd recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a good, stimulating read.
This was a touching story that held my attention throughout. Although Jasmine was in King's life for a short period of time, his love for her lasted a lifetime. This was indicative of King's hunt for her killer & not allowing his soul to rest until the killer was found. I thought Snook did a great job displaying King's life from birth to childhood & the bond he & Jasmine formed despite the communication barrier. Family love continued as King was eagerly taken in by his great-aunt Pearl who loved him dearly. This story had a good cast of characters, interesting storyline & was a great read.
The beginning was so sad. It hurt my heart and I cried. After that the story went fast forward. You never really felt anything from anyone else. I still never got Roland. Never got to know anyone other than King, Starr, and their Auntie. Also what led up to the tragedy and how did it go so wrong. Recommended.
The story pulled at my heart. It was written well, thoughtful, and the writer gave depth to each individual character. I loved the story and I'm glad she had companionship and themed a little family in the story to give it a more "close to home" feel. I look forward to reading more of this author's books.
This was a very good book. I really enjoy how Author Snook let you see the struggle that Jasmine had to go through because of her disability. This book really took me on a real emotional roller coaster. This is a must read. 5 star banger. Author Snook you did your thang girl.
