The Cry Wolf series #1 - The Witch Who Cried Wolf #1.5 - Cold Moon Rising #2 - The Wolf Who Played with Fire
New York Times and USA Today Bestselling Author Sarah Mäkelä loves her fiction dark, magical, and passionate. She is a paranormal romance author, but she's written all over the romance spectrum with cyberpunk, sci-fi, fantasy, urban fantasy... even a sweet contemporary romance!
A life-long paranormal fan, she still sleeps with a night light. In her spare time, she reads sexy books, watches scary movies, and plays computer games with her husband. When she gets the chance, she loves traveling the world too.
It was fun picking back up with Mia and Ethans story after the last quick novella in this series. I enjoy Mia and Ethan as separate characters in this story because they both have unique personalities, together though I feel like they may not be so compatible. These two have hot chemistry and that secret love thing going for them but I dont feel like that's going to sustain them. There are so many changes going on in both their lives that forcing them to change and reevaluate everything. Mia's gotta deal with the guilt of causing the people she loves most pain, while also dealing with the fact she might lose Ethan permanently. Ethan just seems to be trying to cope with his new state of reality.
Altogether it's a good quick read for lovers of werewolves and witches.
I received this book in exchange for an honest review.

I have been a fan of the Cry Wolf series since the Witch Who Cried Wolf. When I saw the next installment in the series, I asked ms. Sarah Makela if I could read and review The Wolf Who Played With Fire. She happily accepted and sent it my way. Here is what the story is about:
Mia and Ethan are back in an all new adventure in the Cry Wolf universe. Mia fears that she will no longer get to be with Ethan once he transforms into a werewolf so she tries to spend as much time with him as possible all while tending to her friend Jessa's magic shop Eternally Magick while she is in the hospital. Ethan then is asked to help the wolves who attacked his witch girlfriend all the while turning him into finding one of their pack mates who went missing. Can he find the missing wolf and still get to be with Mia or will he be doomed to live his life without her? Read the book to find out.
I enjoyed this book. If you enjoyed the first two books in the series, you'll enjoy this one. I reccomend this to fans of Paranormal romance. Look for this on amazon.
Ive had the pleasure of having read the first 2 books, I think tops the first 2! Mia is still learning magic, and her mentor and friend being in the hospital... Mia will find herself going at it alone...mostly. There is still Evan, smiles a half human/wolf in the beginning of the change thanks to a wolf attack. I can only imagine that Mia may feel as if she is pulled a bit thin, taking on the up keep of the magic store, being around for her brother and for Ethan. To top all that off the cute sweet stuff that Ethan and Mia are feeling may just be more than a passing fancy. Not too much detail, not too much loves you boo, just a good mix of it all. A good book where you will even like the secondary characters. This is a continuation of the story-line in book 1 "The Witch Who Cried Wolf" and it definitely enriches this story if you have read that one first.
Once again, Sarah has proven that she is very good at setting the mood of a story in just a few sentences. Her richly drawn characters are a pleasure to read and the story just flows, taking you along for the ride.
Mia and Ethan are still dealing with the fall out from the first book only it ramps up in this one. This book also has Jacob and Kelly from the book "Cold Moon Rising" although as the story centers around M&E, J&K are not brought up at the beginning of the book as I was half expecting. Their cliffhanger is dealt with and I don't want to say anymore about it in case you have not read their book yet.
I am happy to announce that this book does not end in a cliffhanger. It is obvious that the story-line is going to continue (or we will have to hunt Sarah down and chain her to her laptop) but it has a very good HFN and wraps up this portion of the story very well. *big sigh of relief*
There are also a plethora of fabulous secondary characters and I just can't wait to read their stories. Particularly Jessa and Chad.
All in all I am feeling very honored that I was given the chance to Beta read this book. It was a pleasure not only having the chance to read it before it was published but dealing with the author herself has been a total delight. I highly recommend this book to anyone who would like to read a shifter book that is just a little different.
The Wolf Who Played With Fire is book two in Sarah Mäkelä Cry Wolf series. This is a continuation of the story from The Witch Who Cried Wolf. Another descent read in the Cry Wolf series. It’s a quick, fun, fast-paced romantic read.
Mia our witch and girlfriend/lover to Ethan. I still had the same mixed feelings about her that I did in book 1. She is developing as a witch and not as scared to use her powers, but I still was frustrated that she does not know much for a witch. She has access to a grimoire and other books in the store she works at, so why dosent she read them and learn? Mia is also still hiding from her family who she really is.
Ethan our solder and know new werewolf. I liked getting more of a POV from him. We get to learn about his struggles to still have a normal life along with his development into a werewolf. I appreciate the sturggles, but the gap between him and Nolan is too wide. We see that he has deep feelings for Mia almost like she is his mate, but it’s not said that she is (only implied).
The story is fast-paced and done in a POV style mixed narrative. Very clear who you where reading about. Ms. Mäkelä does a nice job with the POV. Ethan and Mia have chemistry, but after reading Jacob and Kelly’s story it’s obvious how unconnected I feel to Ethan and Mia. They are still hiding there relationship from Mia’s family. Not sure why and then we never learn about this promise that Ethan made to Nolan that was mentioned in book 1. I really like Nolan as a character and wish he was in on all the supernatural side of things. He has so much potential and I still feel like he senses what’s going on with Ethan and Mia. Maybe he has a little supernatural in him? I am really wanting to finish Jacob and Kelly’s story from Cold Moon Rising. We only get a glimpse of them through the eye’s of the pack in this one and it’s not said what happens to them. The sex was still mediocre for me, maybe because I don’t have a good connection to Mia and Ethan. I still ended up having several un-answered questions at the end of this book.
The Wolf Who Played With Fire is a nice continuation in the Cry Wolf series though their are still things that need to be flushed out. I am really looking forward to the continuation of Jacob and Kelly and hopeful the author will give us that soon.
Once again I am thrilled to be able to enter into this adventure this author has created with her writing skills to see what happens next with characters I have come to know. Since Mia unknowingly made a potion that caused harm to a alpha of a pack that when she was confronted with undoing this damage her mentor and friend Jessa was attacked. So now she is tending her shop Eternally Magick but things have not calmed down at all. Along with that her love Ethan who is turning himself must show himself to be loyal to the pack but doesn't want it to come between him and Mia. Having rules of the pack and also his job too, plus living with her brother who is also best friend is alot for one who must now learn to control his inner beast. Strained to say the least on all fronts would be saying it lightly for Ethan. Mia is still adorable Mia though and she is willing to stand by her man hehe even if he does go on all fours soon. Not really liking having to hide this from her brother is no beno though plus she is still contending with Jessa telling her to stay away from them werewolves they are bad news. Plus oh joy they do not count her as one of their favorite witches either. Having to keep confronting one wolf in particular is making her realize she needs to get stronger on her magic so she is not so helpless when she needs to know her stuff. Since this author has the ability to keep it action packed in each one she writes she also combines in this one the two college students one being werewolf abducted from her short novella I had also read which makes this read double sweet for me. When things esculate that not only does pack need to find those two they need to find Ethan thanks to his job that brings him to close to the core of the kidnapping of the other two. Mia goes all out to get back her man even if that means duping one werewolf to kinda break the rules so she can assist the pack it locating Ethan. Breaks on now because in order to find out the end result to all this action and adventure you must read this spine tingling read for yourself. This author has the ability for each time you read one of her novels to capture you with her were tales that also contain heat from the couple that started it all. Remember Ethan's little witch does have quite the fire inside of her when she needs it-in and out of the bedroom. Received a copy for a honest reveiw
‘The Wolf Who Played With Fire’ is Book 2 in the Cry Wolf series by Sarah Makela. I was gifted a copy of this book in return for an honest review. Finally! After patiently waiting, we get the continuation of Mia and Ethan’s story, and this reader is not disappointed! Ms. Makela has smoothly picked up the storyline from Book 1, ‘The Witch Who Cried Wolf’, and tied in the events from Book 1.5, ‘Cold Moon Rising’. My questions from the cliffhanger endings have been answered with very intriguing results. And although our MCs dealt with angst over their situations, it was very satisfying to see Mia coming into her own with her witch powers and Ethan determined to stand up to the ultimatum he was given by the local pack alpha. The action is non-stop and the romance is hot! New questions, of course, deal with some of the other characters and whether Ms. Makela will share their stories in future books in the series. I love the direction this series has taken and can’t wait to see in what direction the next book will go. I’m definitely hooked and absolutely recommend this series to anyone who enjoys the paranormal romance genre.
" A Heart stopping Romance!" This book is Magnificent!. The story line is Fabulous!, and the characters are Sensational!. This is the most Amazing series!. Mia and Ethan are an item now, but still have to keep their relationship hidden. Mia is a witch and Ethan is turning into a werewolf after him and Mia was attacked by an evil werewolf.Mia's friend /mentor Jessa is attacked by the same werewolf and put in the hospital. The werewolf pack is still mad at Mia due to a mistake with a potion she had made for the Alpha. Mia's family still do not know Mia is a real witch. Mia feels like her life is falling apart!. Ethan feels his life has been turned up side down. With having to deal with pack issues now that he is becoming one of them , plus he feels Mia may be his and his wolfs soul mate. Can Mia and Ethan make their relationship work? Can Ethan keep Mia safe from the pack? And what will happen when Mia's family find out she is a real witch plus about her relationship with Ethan?. This book has spine-tingling suspense, action, and heart - stopping Romance!. Sarah Makela's Cry Wolf series is so incredible!.
Karma can be a B**ch I loved this book as well as the entire series. You have a witch who by no fault of her own seems to have werewolf’s trouble follower her. An old family friend (who she’s always had a crush on) finds the trouble right along side of her. Her best friend and mentor is in the hospital and can’t help her. Can she up her magic to help save them? Missing pack members that need to be found and helped and a whole lot more going on all at the same time. This is the third book of a series and yet it’s still a self contained story but is several enhanced by the other books, and again leaving things open for more stories to come. Story line flowed very well keeping my interest to the fullest. Well written and very enjoyable and entertaining to read. I was given a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I was given this book by the author for an honest review. I absolutely LOVE this series!!!! Mia & Ethan are facing tons of troubles in their lives between his impending change into a werewolf at the full moon, the local pack hating Mia for being the witch who inadvertently almost killed their Alpha, her parents and brother(who also happens to be his best friend), and his military career, among others! Read and see how they deal with their problems, and fall in love with these characters like I did. We also catch a glimpse of Kelly & Jacob from the previous book in the series. I absolutely cannot wait to see what happens next for Mia, Ethan, Chad, Jessa, Jacob and Kelly! Hurry up Sarah, and write the next book!
This book goes back to Mia and Ethan. A lot is happening to Mia. Mia has to deal with her lover becoming a werewolf. She has to deal with deceiving her brother on all sorts of levels. She keeps being approached by people demanding things from her. And to top it off she has a swollen ankle. Ethan is slowly join the wolf pack. He discovers his growing powers and learning the ways of the pack. Not all is well considering they don't trust witches. To top off his problems his work might just be related to the research facility. I love this book. It ties the first 2 novels together! It has romance and suspense. You feel for the characters and root for them to have closure.

*Reviewer for Paranormal Romance and Authors that Rock*
Sarah Makela really delivers with this action packed novel! She does a fantastic job of weaving together the stories of Mia and Ethan and Jacob and Kelly from the first two books in this series.
While Ethan and Mia are struggling to deal with the changes in their lives and relationship, Ethan goes missing and only Mia, with the help of the werewolf pack that hates her, can find him and the other missing weres.
It is great to watch the relationship grow between Ethan and Mia. Even better is watching Mia gain self confidence in herself and her powers.
I can’t wait to see where Ms. Makela takes us next with this series!
This series just keeps getting better and better. I couldn't wait to read this one. It totally surpassed my expectations. I am anxiously waiting to see what happens next. I love how effortlessly this book continues the stories of Ethan and Mia from book 1 and Jacob and Kelly from book 1.5. Then combines them together in this one. I love that. I would definitely recommend this entire series to everyone. It just keeps getting better!!
I received this as a gift from the author for my honest review.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.
I absolutely adore this book series, this is the third book that i have read of this series and it starts where the last book ended. It is an extremely compelling and addicting book making it an obsessively good page turner!
I adored this storyline, i loved seeing more into the relationship building between Ethan and Mia, they are filled with so much passion for each other and the love between them is really obvious through many of their actions and their thoughts and wants. Another thing that i loved about this book was seeing the inner workings of the pack and seeing a different side to Chad as well.
I am always in awe of the authors writing in every book i read and the more i read the more i love hr work. It's how she is able to create such a realistic world that plays out in the reader's mind, the characters are created so lifelike, approachable and real. Not only is the idea of the story brilliant, when you add the way Sarah Makela writes it just makes an amazing read and i can't get enough!! I really can't wait to find out what will happen next in this series!!!
This is a must read, everyone should read this book series!!! (i would recommend reading the first two books in this series beforehand as it will make a lot more sense)
Mia got involved inadvertantly when the beta of the local werewolf pack went to the witchy store in town for a potion that almost killed the alpha. Now she and her friends are facing consequences neither could foresee. Her boyfriend is turning into a werewolf, her friend and mentor was in the hospital and now there is a strong possibility that she is losing her boyfriend. Witches and wolves don't mesh although Ethan is trying to avoid that unfortunately pack politics and pressure is pushing him into a direction he doesn't want. From page one to the end this story ensnares the reader's attention and keeps you enthralled as you journey with Mia and Ethan. Fantastic story and read!!
The third book in the Cry Wolf series is well written and this series I would say has to be read in order. This is more of Mia Brooks and Ethan Parker's story I enjoyed reading this book. This is a series I would recommend.
I absolutely loved this next part of Mia and Ethan's story! I also love that we keep learning more about the other characters. This is such a wonderful world she has created and I'm super excited to start on the next book! I received an ARC and am leaving my honest opinion.
I received this book free and I am voluntarily doing a Review. I absolutely love this author. The word building is excellent and keeps you reading. The storyline and characters are so arresting i I couldn't put it down.
Really enjoyed this combination of all four characters' stories. Mia and Ethan get drawn into the rescue mission for Kelly and Jacob. Her family is still in the dark about them as they grow closer. Grave danger puts everything in perspective to make their love stronger.
Great story line but it needs to finish up at the end. I thought it would give more information from book 2 and nothing about their characters until the end ... then it just ended.
Ethan and Mia are together, but her family doesn't know it yet. Ethan is getting closer to his first shift and they both are handling it pretty well. Mia starting out on the wrong side of the Alpha's son, Chad, was questionable at first but it has evolved. It's kind of a like/hate thing going. I also like that she's crazy enough to stand up to the Alpha to help Ethan. I'm not sure why she and Ethan are hiding their relationship from her family but maybe that will change. She is becoming more confident and secure in her relationship with Ethan. I recommend reading this series in order and this book will keep you wanting more. I requested an advanced reader copy and am under no obligation to leave this review.
SWEET MAGICAL GOODNESS !!! Title: The Wolf Who Played With Fire Series: Cry Wolf Designation: Book Three of Series, Not Recommend As A Standalone, HFN Author: Sarah Makela Reading Platform: Kindle Unlimited My Rating: Five Magical Stars***** Wow! Sweet magical goodness! The Wolf Who Played With Fire is the third book in the Cry Wolf Series by Sarah Makela and it totally rocks! I loved it! Makela has once again demonstrated her amazing talent and incredible imagination by delivering another explosive addition to this exciting series. In Book One we learn that Mia Brooks is a witch albeit a very reluctant one, especially since none of her family knew of her magical abilities. Her grandmother was a powerful witch and she could be powerful as well if she would just accept her destiny and practice her craft, at least according to her friend, mentor and fellow witch, Jessa. So when Mia's magic gets a little mixed up while making a healing salve for one of Jessa's customers, supernatural forces are unleashed and she's suddenly neck deep in werewolves and trouble! Oh my! Things just couldn't get any worse! Or could they? Yep, they could! Her brother's best friend and her secret childhood crush, Ethan Parker, is home from deployment. She just couldn't let Ethan find out her secret! But when danger comes out to play, Mia has to reveal her magic to Ethan and what ensues is an undeniable recipe for disaster! Ethan has been bitten and despite Mia's best efforts, Ethan is becoming a werewolf. What? Everyone knows that witches and werewolves are mortal enemies - or are they? Fate just can not be denied and neither can their mutual love and attraction for each other! Now in Book Three, Ethan quickly finds himself caught up in the rescue of one of his new pack members and of course, Mia being the witch she is, must step up to the plate to prove to Ethan's new pack that she's not the enemy by helping to rescue Ethan and another member of the pack, Jacob Armstrong, a werewolf college student we meet in Book Two who has been captured and being held prisoner in a secret research facility. Oh my! Will be Mia be able to convince the wolves that she can be trusted ? Will Ethan and Jacob be rescued before it's too late? Will Mia and Ethan finally be able to enjoy a relationship and be together despite his pack and her family's objections? Shazam! Let the magic begin! The story is exciting, thrilling, magical, sweet, funny, romantic and arousing. The dialogue is smart, sassy and well written. The characters are adorable, captivating, fascinating, engaging and sexy. Makela combines these elements as only she can with her amazing skill to produce an extraordinary read! Sexy werewolves-check! Beautiful witch-check! Suspense, danger, action, romance and angst-you betcha! I loved it! Fantastic entertainment and a magical read!
during the full moon. I only hoped I’d be able to keep up with him… HOWL! Sarah you sly wolf you! NOW I understand Cold Moon Rising and how it does fit into this series! And here I was worried that you had left me hanging without their HEA, or ANY ending, for that matter, Sarah! This is my favorite book so far!! I love when a series follows the same couple, or group, and this is exactly why! Mia and Ethan deserve to have a full long rich story, and Sarah is giving them exactly that! There are so many laugh out loud moments, hilarious one liners, hot sex, moments that have you on the edge of your seat and ones that have you in tears, or at least wanting to! I am loving Sarah's writing style, now that I am used to it! Cold Moon Rising threw me for a loop, but it is all better now! :-) That is also a great example of how Sarah chooses to have her books stand out from the very populated shifter crowd. I love the cast of characters, the different 'types' of characters - wolf, human, witch, etc. I can't wait to see what is going to happen now. I have to admit that I am more than a little intrigued to see how & where the witches and wolves are going to go from here. I can't say that I have read too many books with both of the 'species' taking center stage, so for that alone I applaud Sarah. All in all, this is a fantastic book, a great addition to this series & a terrific way to carry on the main storylines while adding even more to it, making it into an even more beefed up storyline! This book is also a prime example of just how much talent Sarah has. I cannot wait to see how the rest of Mia & Ethan's tale is going to play out! Can a witch and a werewolf even have a happily ever after? Even if they deserve one, we will just have to wait and see what Fate has in store for them! Or should I say what Sarah has in store for them!
"The Wolf Who Played With Fire (Cry Wolf #2) by Sarah Makela 3 out of 5 stars
Ethan and Mia are back in new installment of the Cry Wolf series and I have to admit that I was a little disappointed. I wanted more Jacob and Kelly. While their story is continued here, it is completely out of the pages and we only get information through the Pack. I wanted to see it all firsthand so I was definitely bummed.
After reading Jacob and Kelly's book it is even more obvious to me how unconnected I feel to Ethan and Mia. Yes, they have chemistry...but I need more. Mia is still hiding who she is and now she is hiding her relationship with Ethan as well. It's a case of one too many secrets and I feel like the book would be even better if Makela could lighten the load a little. Ethan struggles here to find a balance between his new life and his old one. I can appreciate that but the gap between he and Nolan is becoming too wide. I like the character of Nolan and I really feel like he would be much better served if he was in on all the supernatural side of things. Plus, I still maintain that he senses what's going on with Ethan and Mia and to continue to hide it from him is silly.
All of that aside, in order to follow Jacob and Kelly's story you must read this one. Makela indicates, at the end, that the next book will be back to those two again. I can't wait to be back in their heads and it's my hope that she will continue to focus on them.
*I was given a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.*
I was gifted a copy for an honest review. This is the third is the series and is back to Ethan, our solider turned werewolf and his possible girlfriend Mia, a witch who is still hiding what she is and still unwilling to use her powers. The two have a real attraction to each other but both are fighting it. Ethan out of loyalty to Mia's brother his roommate and best friend and now the pack he is hoping to join that is putting demands on him. Mia holding out for fear of hurting her brother and her uncertainty about whether she wants to stay involved with Ethan and with him being a werewolf. To make matters worse the pack needs Ethan's hep in finding a missing pack member (Jacob from the last book) and another witch has approached Mia offering to take over her training from her friend/mentor Jessa. We are also introduced, by name, to the pack members (who still dislike Mia after she unintentionally poisoned their alpha-but she did heal him) and really don't want her involved with Ethan. Although I'm not a big fan of Mia who i feel needs to put her big girl pants on and face what she is I love Ethan and the fact he is doing what he can to give her space while building his place in the pack. I am looking forward to the I am looking forward to the next book and seeing how things go with Jacob and Kelly and who knows maybe there will be someone for Jessa. This was a quick read as it was full of suspense and I didn't want to put it down until I finished it and find out if Ethan (and the pack) were able to rescue the missing.
Mira Brooks is prepared to take on the werewolves to save her wolf in this riveting installment of the Cry Wolf series. Mira feels that Ethan is giving in the wolf and she is going to lose him to the pack if an unknown enemy doesn’t get him first.
Mira captivates the readers in this steady to fast paced plot as she tries to get a handle on all the drama going on in her life. The author ensures that she does just that with well written scenes and details that draw the reader deeper into the story and of course the other strong compelling characters don’t exactly take a back seat as they contribute their own drama to the mix.
Ethan and Mira’s attraction to each other is still heating up the sheets with some red hot and passionate sex, but the relationship has hit a few bumps, of course with Ethan trying to deal with learning how to be a werewolf would make things complicated, right? But if that’s not enough, the pack causes a few problems and not there is another mysterious player that Mira’s not too sure about. The reader can’t help but get caught up in all the emotional drama and the intriguing situations the couple find themselves in.
There is also a new enemy for the pack as well, that adds excitement to the story as well and puts the reader on the edge of their seat as Mira’s either crazy or stupid plan to rescue her man adds lots of spine tingling tension to the story. I can’t wait to read the next installment to find out what happens next.
I was so excited to receive book 3 of The Cry Wolf series: The Wolf Who Played With Fire. I have read three books of this series. I admire Sarah writing, she is very creative with lots imagination and talent; if you want to witness this all you need to do is read one of her books. As far as I'm concern she has fan for life. Sarah Makela name on the book as the author I know that her book will be a magnificent read. I rated this book 5 stars.
This third book bring Ethan and Mia back, in this new installment of the Cry Wolf series, the story continues, Mia's brother Nolan is feelin the tention in Ethan so he's trying to figure the cause. Meanwhile Ethan and Mia are still hiding their relationship from Mia family. So after a night of being with Ethan, Mia wakes up and take's shower hoping to be completely dress by time Ethan wakes up, she didn't make and they start to make love exactly what she knew they would do start kissing and making love but Nolan interrupted them and Mia jumps back into the shower and hides from her brother. Mia hasn't told her family about her being a witch she's afraid they wouldn't understand. Ethan is almost a wolf he will be fully turned on the full moon but he struggles to find a balance between his new life and his old one. When Ethan doesn't pick Mia up from work, she starts to worry. This will bring the story to a awesome finish. This a great addition to this series. I can't wait to read the next book of this series.
This is a great continuation to the first book in the series The Witch Who Cried Wolf and a tie into Cold Moon Rising. The author did a great job continuing to build Mia and Ethan's characters and their relationship. Ethan is trying to balance his love for Mia, his strained relationship with Mia's brother Nolan, becoming a werewolf and the packs expectation. Mia is trying to decide if Ethan will continuing loving her once he become a werewolf and if she will be able to accept him after the change, the hatred she is dealing with from the pack because of almost killing the alpha unknowingly and trying to become a stronger witch like her grandmother with the help of her mentor Jessa. There are new character introductions of Chad and Selene and it left me curious as to how they will affect further books in the series. The tie in with Jacob and Kelly from Cold Moon Rising also leave you excited with what can happen with them and the pack. The author has just the right amount of action, sexual content and mystery in this book to get you hooked and want a little more. The book was wonderfully written and I really enjoyed reading it and can't wait to see how the next book in the series expands the characters even more. So, if you like magic, shifters, and hot sex well you will love this book. I was given this book and just asked to give an honest review and honestly I loved it.
Mercenaries, Captives and Rescues!! Ethan and Mia continue their relationship, but are keeping it a secret from her family. Just to make her life more difficult, Mia badly sprains her ankle when sneaking away from Ethan's house when her brother comes home unexpectedly. To help her friend Jessa, who is still in the hospital after being attacked by the same werewolf that attacked Ethan, Mia is keeping her magic shop open.
