I’m a sucker for movies and books with strong food related themes, and A Taste of Passion (Sweet Temptation, #1) by Ashley Lister looked like it would fill that need. This was the first book I'd read from Ashley Lister, and I like the book as much as I disliked the book.

The books themes seemed very similar to the trendy hip books making the circuit these days.

• The older “life smart” male Vs the younger not so” life wise” female
• The wealthy, want for nothing male Vs the climbing the mountain to success female
• The sexually knowledgeable male Vs less experienced female (but not a virgin in this case)
• The sexually dominant male Vs the submissive female quickly falling under his spell – quivering with need for what he can sexually give her
• The quick move into a D/s relationship, in this book very little negotiation or bargaining
• The male who can provide all – the sexual, financial, and roof over her head Vs the female who needs all the alpha male can provide

Themes unique to this book:
• The use of kitchen cooking implements for “punishment”
• Almost all sexual scenes carried out in a kitchen
• The heroine is an accomplished professional in the culinary field
• The heroine considers the pros and cons to having this relationship

What did I like about the book:
• The food related themes, the use of culinary images, the imagined smells and tastes, used to wet the sexual appetite.
• I enjoyed the use of term spankmaid
• The hot sex scenes in the kitchen, or the one in the outside cottage garden.
• The story has a plot that’s enhanced by the sexually charged relationship of Bill and Trudy.
• The stories secondary characters bring additional dimension to the various threads, some characters are likable, some quirky, some despicable, and some you wonder if they have other motives that haven’t been played out yet.

What did I disliked about the book:
• In several instances the author gets repetitive – saying the same thing back to back, using slightly different wording.
• The way Daryl, Gemma and Charlotte put up with Donnie’s treatment of them
• The unresolved “kitchen fight” that goes from an extremely negative to an extremely positive financial situation for Bill almost overnight
But what I really disliked about this book the most was the abrupt ending, it’s not a cliff hanger, the story just falls right off the cliff! No epilogue, no teaser about the follow on book …just our heroine and a muffin….waiting

Will I read the follow on book – maybe, now I’m going to have to see how many books this story is going to span, because I won’t read a long drawn out plot that could have easily been concluded in one book had the page count been increased.

For me this was a 3.5 – 3.75 star read, and I’ll round up to a 4 star read, just because I’m a sucker for food themes.

REVIEW: A TASTE OF PASSION is the first instalment in Ashley Lister’s new, contemporary, adult Sweet Temptation erotic romance series focusing on celebrity chef William (Bill) Hart and culinary school graduate Trudy Cole. The storyline follows many of the more popular older, wealthy man/younger, naïve woman formulas. The D/s relationship begins when Trudy demands an audience with Chef Hart not realizing that Hart has been asked to invest in Trudy and her friend’s pastry shop-Sweet Temptations.

The focus of the storyline follows Trudy as she is pulled into the world of Bill Hart. Several years Trudy’s senior, Bill is a celebrity chef with a book and a television show in the works but a man who hides many secrets and many affairs. As their relationship builds Trudy quickly finds herself the new sous chef at Bill’s restaurant but jealousy and revenge will pit the staff and Bill against one another as Trudy and Bill become the pawns in a game of vengeance and reprisal. Harsh words and even harsher punishment will be meted out and Trudy must make a decision whether to remain under Bill’s dominance both in and out of the bedroom.

The relationship between Trudy and Bill is one of Dominance and submission. There is no denying that Trudy has entered into the relationship wholly aware of her role and what it is she wants. But saying that, I did not feel the connection between our leading couple other than the D/s relationship. Their's is a case of insta-lust and wanting something they shouldn't have. Trudy’s need to escape from her crazy friends pushes her into a situation that is volatile and compromising.

The secondary characters are colorful, angry, aggressive and drive a good portion of the storyline. Trudy’s former best friends border the line between sane and psychotic, and the staff at the restaurant make sure that Trudy knows exactly where it is she stands.

The world building pulls the reader behind the scenes of high end dining, exclusivity and the celebrity of a world famous chef, and the notoriety and fall out of an affair that is about to crash and burn.

If you are a fan of the light BDSM storylines and like the world of the rich and famous, then A TASTE OF PASSION is for you. The story ends rather abruptly on a bit of a cliffhanger where the reader is left wondering what happened and where it will go. Because this is the first in the series, there are several issues unanswered and not addressed.

I will admit...I nearly gave up on this story! It just wasn't catching my attention but I kept going and I found myself actually really enjoying the story. It was an easy read and I liked the characters. If you can get over the slightly slow (in my opinion) start then you will actually really enjoy the book!
The story was interesting and it was well read, with characters that pulled me in.
You could do a lot worse than read this.

This is a world of real chefs, restaurants and not the usual relationships. We have sensual tastes described for food... as well as for spanky sex. There is a May/December romance, a budding business proposal and a test on friendships..... with lots and lots of spanking sex.

Trudy is a young naive culinary school graduate who is looking forward to starting a new catering company called Sweet Temptations with two of her classmates, Donny and Charlotte, who also happen to be her best friends and roommates. They go out to the hottest restaurant in town to celebrate their graduation, but while Donny and Charlotte are ready to move the celebration on, Trudy is so intrigued by the flavors of the muffin she had for dessert that she refuses to leave the restaurant until she speaks to the chef, or at least gets the recipe. After waiting two hours, having everyone leave, and the lights turned off on her, Bill, the celebrity head chef (he hosts a cooking show as well) comes out to talk to the crazy lady that refuses to leave. He takes her to the back to show her his kitchen, then things "really heat up." It all goes downhill from there, at least for me.
I have to say that I did not like this book. At all. I didn't like the characters, not a single one of them. I didn't like the plot. I didn't like the way they treated each other, or the lack of respect they all seemed to have for themselves and each other. I didn't like the fact that I was not warned about the BDSM in the book blurb because I wouldn't have read it if I'd known. I don't mind a little kink, but I don't like D/s especially in cases like this where the age gap between the characters is so large that Bill is said to be old enough to be Trudy's grandfather on multiple occasions through out the book. I'm sorry but that just rings of daddy issues, especially considering she feels she constantly needs to be punished even when she hasn't done anything wrong. And this is not light and playful, for example this quote
"she could imagine the skin being reddened or broken or bruised by the slash of each belt stroke. The idea of bearing such brands from his discipline left her sex flooded with fresh excitement."

I'm sure this might be great reading for some people, but it just doesn't work for me. I really felt like Trudy was TSTL, that's too stupid to live.
"All he'd done was defend himself against a man wielding a knife. How was that an offense that merited arrest? Admittedly, Bill had struck the first blow, and he was the one who beat the man into unconsciousness, and kicked him whilst he laid defenseless on the ground. But she was sure that none of those details meant he deserved to be arrested."

Obviously someone needs to save her from her own stupidity. I find it very hard to believe that any chef would hire her to be his second in command at a Michilin starred restaurant, after knowing her for one day, not having tasted anything she cooked, and not even seeing a resume or checking credentials, but Trudy actually believes it's because of her skill and not because of the fact that they slept together within an hour of meeting.
Another major problem I had with this book, aside from personal preference, was that it all literally took place within the space of a week. There was no character development, no building up of chemistry, no real romance. I would say that the characters just fell into bed together, except they never actually made it to a bed. I'm sorry but it is just not romantic for me to read about people having sex in the kitchen of a popular restaurant within an hour of meeting each other ( the idea of kitchen sex, especially in a kitchen that serves food to the public, is not sexy, it's gross).
I also for the life of me could just not figure out the dynamics of the relationships, none of the relationships, I have no idea what's really going on between Trudy and her roommates, between Charlotte and Donny, between Bill and Aliceson, or Bill and Imogene, or even between Bill and Trudy. There was no expression of feelings, at least on the part Bill so I finished the book still not knowing what his intentions are. I'm guessing all of it will be explained in the next book in the series, because yes, this book ended with the dreaded cliffhanger. I'm giving it two stars, instead of the negative 53 I wanted to because, I can't say it's poorly written, it just did not work for me at all. I will not be reading more in this series.

In this book, culinary graduate Trudy is planning on starting up a patisserie business with her two best friends, Charlotte and Donny, when she meets Michelin-starred chef Bill Hart and starts a relationship with him, despite the large age difference between them and the fact that he disapproves of her friendships and her business plan. Before long he's dominating her and offering her a job in his kitchen, but Donny is not happy about the new state of things and starts trying to sabotage her new life.
Ummm, I'm not sure what to say about this book. I liked the start where Trudy is so determined to find out the recipe for one of the dishes in Bill's restaurant that she makes a nuisance of herself until the head chef himself starts paying attention. And then I sort of started disliking all the characters after that. I didn't like the fact that Bill was so much older that Trudy and basically takes over her life, shooting down her business idea and isolating her from her friends. I didn't like that her friends went from being really close best friends to weird psychotic sex maniacs who have sex in her bed and pay the police to lock Bill up in prison. I didn't like that Bill randomly starts spanking Trudy for no apparent reason and not only does she love it, but they start practicing bondage and spanking about six times a day with absolutely no aftercare...or even before-care. There's not really any caring between them. It's more just a younger woman becoming unnecessarily dependent on an older man. Also, I know that Bill's maturity and experience is supposed to be sexy, but all I could keep thinking was that why have a romantic lead who's been married at least four times already. It just made me think that the relationship between Bill and Trudy was doomed from the start. I also didn't really like that the ending just...stopped. I kind of feel that even if a book is part of a series, there should be something to hope for, rather than the relationship just ending and the book just ending.
This novel started off promisingly, but I'm afraid I just didn't like it and I didn't enjoy reading it at all which is a shame. 1 star.

Loved this book! Trudy has just graduated college and is hoping to start her own online baking company. As her and her two friends are celebrating they end up in a restaraunt of the famous Bill Hart. When Trudy taste the spectacular muffin she wants to speak to the pastierre to discuss the ingrediants. When she is refused she refuses to leave until she can. At the close of the night she is approached by the elder Bill and the two soon become inseperable in many ways.

There was more to this plot than meets the eye at first glance. It is one of the few books that I have read that have such a strong story line and such good sex also. KUDOS!

The author is fantastic with the layout and flow of this book. Although the ending is predictable it is done in such a fantastic manner that it made me giggle.

Hmmm... Sooo...I enjoyed the book, but I find myself kinda confused. So I wanted a couple days to process and reread certain parts of the book. Well I'm two days post my first reading and although I still want to read the next book, I'm still greatly confused about several aspects: Why doesn't Trudy have more friends than just two losers she lives with? How did she live with those two and not know they were hooking up? Poor chick doesn't need any of belongs from her home? Trudy disappears for an entire day and Bill not worried at all? Why exactly is Bill pissed off at her and blocking her out? He did say if the D-bag wasn't part of Sweet Temptations that he'd be okay with her working there. So did she get fired from her job? Is that even legal?

I hate to say it but there was nothing tempting whatsoever about Sweet Temptation. It started of bad when I was immediately turned off by the couple's huge age difference and just went downhill from there. I actually found myself skimming the sex scenes they were so dull and there was nothing terribly gripping about the plot either. I'm massively confused about the ending. I kept hitting the turn page button thinking I had missed the end. Anyway, I'd say save your money and skip this one. While it's not terrible there's nothing about it that would make me recommend it to someone.

I received a copy from NetGalley in exchange for a honest review. I thought this would be a book I would love. I had a difficult time following the story. I didn't really like the character development and the friends the main character had. This was the first book by this author that I have read. A lot of details were needed and it didn't seem like all the story line was finished. It was left with a cliffhanger but I don't feel the need or want to read the next which is extremely rare for me.

Where do you go for your fill of sweet, delectable pastries and a dash of kinky cravings? Why Boui-Boui in “A Taste of Passion” by Ashly Lister. Trudy Cole has just finished culinary school and is supposed to focus on starting a business with her two friends. While out for a celebration dinner at the trendy Boui-Boui, she discovers food nirvana after sampling a Blueberry-Orange Muffin.

When she requests to speak to the chef to discover the mysterious flavor, she’s politely told that the pastry chef does not speak to patrons. Upon hearing this she decides that nothing will stop her from uncovering what that taste is.

What happens after being locked inside the restaurant ignites her inner taste buds. It’s the moment she comes face to face with the illusive Bill Hart, a well known chef. In this May-December romance when Trudy uncovers her knack and talent of embodying all of the flavors that cooking has to offer, Bill is drawn to her. He’s turned on by her appreciation and passion for fine flavors and great food.

Together they embark on a journey that titillates both the taste buds and appetite for the eccentric. It’s through Bill that she uncovers some raw truths about herself, the friendships that she has and what she really needs and wants as she starts out on her own.

Feel free to stop by for a Blueberry-Orange Muffin but be sure to make a reservation first and ask for Table 13. Tell them Trudy sent you and see what they whip up. Bon Appetite
