What We Talk about When We're Over 60

Rate this book
Those of us who are over sixty are not amused at being compared to aging wine, and certainly not cheese. In this book thirty of us - writers, educators, businesswomen, motivational speakers, mothers, grandmothers, retirees, an artist, a hairdresser, a psychic, a farmer, a psychologist, and a dancer - each share a story about something that changed everything. We think that you - especially if you're a woman over sixty - will laugh and cry and maybe gasp at these funny, enlightening, and bawdy tales because they'll remind you of your own life. So read, enjoy, and reminisce. Then, we invite you to join us on Facebook to share what you like to talk about. Let's do this over-sixty thing together.

Very disappointing. From the title I expected this to be older women talking insightfully about their life after 60, what's been learned from a lifetime of experiences and what new paths we're on. I anticipated women discussing newfound ways of viewing themselves and the world at this time of life. Instead it's just a collection of reminiscences that aren't that interesting or insightful.

I don't want to spend my older years focusing on memories (even though I have some great ones). I want to keep living, to experience this new, last chapter and the new things I'll learn and experience. That's what I want to read about.

As it says, it’s a collection of essays written by women. Some women talk about their past, some the future. Some stories are depressing, some are inspiring, some funny. In other words, it’s life. It gave me a sense that it’s never too late to try something new. There's a lot to enjoy in the book.

read for book talk coming up on Tues. collection of short stories that all women should read regardless of their age. Libby says that we should write the Knitblissers version. I agree.

This essay format book has potential to remind us (those over 60) of what to savor in life after 60. In humor or in sadness or a mix of both. It did do that to an extent because everyone does have a story - no matter their age. But because the essays are written by a cross section of women in life, meaning cross section of careers and how they handled different situations in their younger years, the actual writing needed editing. Unless you are a professional writer, we all do. For that reason, I couldn’t get past the running together of thoughts and the rambling of stories going nowhere. This book was written sometime ago and just maybe in this case AI would have been a help.
