An informative first book on heartburn and GERD without a lot of unfamiliar medical terms. There are a few, but those can easily be googled. The book refers to food that is well tolerated and soothing, and not just what one should not eat. Part 2 is filled with recipes which I found helpful. Page layout in Part 1 was a bit too busy for me: sidebars, boxes, continuations. I’m sure I missed something! Overall recommend for someone trying to understand chronic heartburn and acid reflux.
I have been having stomach problems/lots of heartburn lately, so when I stumbled upon this book at the library while pulling a different, related book for ILL, I decided to take it home and read it.
The author explains the causes of heartburn, acid reflux, and GERD, then gives a lot of advice on how to handle it and even heal it. (I started feeling a lot better after getting in the routine of walking 20 to 30 minutes every day.)
The second half of the book consists of recipes that should be tolerable to people with the digestive problems mentioned in the book. Some of the recipes sound really good, and I thought I would try cooking some of the dishes, but I never did.
I found this book helpful for information and for talking with my doctor. The recipes looked good as well, and there was a lot of info about what foods would help versus acerbate.
