This Eighth Edition of TAKING CLASHING VIEWS IN HEALTH AND SOCIETY presents current controversial issues in a debate-style format designed to stimulate student interest and develop critical thinking skills. Each issue is thoughtfully framed with an issue summary, an issue introduction, and a postscript. An instructor’s manual with testing material is available for each volume. USING TAKING SIDES IN THE CLASSROOM is also an excellent instructor resource with practical suggestions on incorporating this effective approach in the classroom. Each TAKING SIDES reader features an annotated listing of selected World Wide Web sites and is supported by our student website, www.mhcls.com/online.
Well finals are nearing and we've finished this book. I can't say I loved it as a textbook. I thought they did a really poor job picking opposing arguments. Some of the authors were so out of touch that it seemed as if the publishers just went for the most extreme views they could find on each topic (GMOs, age-based health care rationing, Physician and pharmacist rights to deny treatment/rx's). I know it's supposed to be "clashing views" but I really think it's nonproductive to go with such polar opposites. I'd prefer a leftist-center vs rightist-center view points. They still clash but not so glaringly. I'll probably keep the book though. It's a good reference piece for future papers.
