This was a great book on native MN plants and gardening with them. I liked the way that the book was laid out to reflect the different areas of the state - prairie, deciduous forest, coniferous forest - and how to put together a garden that reflects a particular zone. There are details on many different plants, with an eye to ones that are suitable to a home garden. The pictures are beautiful and a must in this type of book. The "Gallery of Gardens" is great for ideas, though many of these gardens are significantly bigger than the space I have. Despite that, even with my small yard, I have gotten many ideas on how to incorporate natives into the limited space I have.

It was ok. I wanted more from it. It isn't short on text. It almost has too much text. The plant suggestions have almost too much information yet tell us nothing. It states where they grow in Minnesota, but not how to make them work in a basic yard.

If it's found in southwest Minnesota can I not grow it here in west central Minnesota?

It has the best information on defining zones and what the zones mean, however unless you want to return your yard to native plants, many of them well over three feet tall, you might want to pass on this book.

Great book! I am an idiot in the garden and am dutifully trying to figure it out. This book was an incredible tool to help me figure out where to start in slowly transforming my yard into solely native plants. Loved that there were so many pictures, since I have no idea what most plants look like. I already feel like I've learned so much just from reading this book.

This is so thorough, readable and informative that before I had finished my library copy, I purchased it for my shelf. This will be my go-to for next summer's gardening and many years to come. Prairie, woods, water's edge. Forbes, grasses, ferns, shrubs, vines and trees.

I love this book. I want this book. I need this book. Only drawback - not enough pictures with landscape/garden designs.
