Dry, my friends, dry. Pompous. Classic, dull textbook. Not friendly. But some real, advanced ideas are in there. Somewhere, aching for a better format.
The chapter covering medical terminology and nomenclature was solid. The rest was not useful for many reasons. Here are a few: did not adequately dive deep into the skillset of therapeutic massage not the biomechanics of the practitioner. Insufficient coverage of the anatomy-[hysiology aspects of the profession--which are tested on the MBLEX: such as business, clinical assessments, ethics in terms used broadly within the profession, more.
Most of the content was a repetitive subset of Mosby's Essentials, also by Fritz. A number of parameters emphasized appear to be outliers within the profession.
I highly recommend replacing books by Fritz as foundational massage therapy texts for these 3 texts: ONE Applied Anatomy & Physiology by Lisa Archer (editions post 2018 so as to include new understanding of the interstitium) TWO Unit-1 of Massage Therapy in Practice by Sandy Fallon (this is solid coverage of all those nonanatomy-physiology topics) THREE Trail Guide and Trail Guide flashcards, vol1 and vol2
I just finished my Swedish Massage class on August 31st. I got a 100 on my written final exam and a 98 on my practical/hands-on exam. I'd say that's pretty damn good.
This book on the other hand, did really put me to sleep pretty much every time I read it, however the 2nd half of chapter four was by far my favorite and the most enjoyable section of the book I read.
