I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.Bracing the Storm by J.C. Reed transports readers into a fiery tale of opposites attract. The story offers the perfect blend of humour, sizzling chemistry, and the enemies-to-lovers trope. Prepare for a thrilling emotional ride that’s as stormy as it is satisfying and engaging.

Imagine inheriting a mansion in Ireland. At first glance, it seems like a dream come true. However, for Lori, the heroine in Bracing the Storm by J.C. Reed, it quickly turns into a battle of wills—with a gorgeous, infuriating rockstar.

Instead of enjoying her dream inheritance, Lori walks into a storm—literally and figuratively. The house comes with Patrick, a stubborn, brooding rockstar who refuses to leave. He grew up in the mansion and can’t understand why his mother would will it to a complete stranger. What follows is an exciting, enemies-to-lovers romance brimming with sarcastic banter, simmering tension, and all the chaos you’d expect when two strong personalities are trapped under one roof—two people determined not to fall in love... but fate has other plans.

Lori may not appeal to every reader, but I genuinely admired her. Her strength and determination shone throughout the story. Watching her stand her ground against Patrick was a highlight—she gave as good as she got. No matter how charming or manipulative he tried to be, Lori refused to back down.

Patrick, on the other hand, is moody, magnetic, and clearly harboring deep emotional baggage, which adds depth and intrigue to his character. Together, their chemistry crackles. Their emotional push-pull, filled with angst and unresolved tension, kept the pages turning. Watching their walls crumble, bit by bit, was both entertaining and satisfying.

J.C. Reed does a great job balancing drama with humor, giving readers moments of levity that prevent the tension from becoming overwhelming. The pacing is just right—it’s a slow burn, but it never drags. The relationship builds naturally, with emotional moments that feel genuine and heartfelt.

If you enjoy romance with sizzling chemistry, stormy Irish settings, and two fierce characters who fight just as hard as they fall, Bracing the Storm deserves a spot on your reading list.

A word of caution: the story ends on a cliffhanger—one I definitely didn’t see coming. This review was originally posted on Totally Addicted to Reading

Lori travels to Ireland after learning she inherited a mansion there. Her travel doesn't start out too well as she meets a grumpy "Paddy" who has to drive her there. She soon finds out that he is Patrick Walsh, the son of the owner of the house. He isn't happy that Lori inherited it and has no plans to leave until he is forced to. His grumpiness towards her turns to sabotaging her and then to steamy times.
I did find the surprising element of who Patrick was to be interesting. Even more so that she had no clue.
The book ends in a cliffhanger, which I didn't realize when I started. I would have loved to have Patrick's POV, too. It always makes stories more interesting.

Thank you to the author for an advanced readers copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This was my first read by this author and the premise of the book immediately drew me in.

Lori and Patrick find themselves in a situation that neither of them is backing down from. I really enjoyed their banter. Lori was chaotic and quite funny. Patrick was full of sexual innuendos which eventually paid off for him. The element of mystery had me turning the pages and eager to find out answers to my questions.

I found the author's writing style to be quite light and entertaining, despite it being told entirely in Lori's POV. I would have loved some perspective from Patrick, especially towards the end. I hope book 2 will have some thoughts from him.

Thank you to JC Reed for the ARC to read and review.

I love books that make me laugh. This was one of them. I love this author’s writing style. It’s light, entertaining and easily grabs the attention of the reader. Lori and Patrick are like no other characters I have read, but I loved the dynamic and chemistry between them.

"My body molds to him easily, as though it was made for him. We’re so close that, for a moment, his breath is mine and mine is his, like he’s the part of me I never knew I was missing until I found it."

There are few scenes that made me laugh out loud and scenes that I still muse over. I didn't understand Lori at first, but after reading about her problems at home, I understood. It's not easy the situation she is in. And that ending---- Now the next book can’t come quickly enough.

When you feel like life can't possibly hand you more than you can handle, think again. Would you fly to Ireland for a home you've mysteriously inherited?...Now throw in the son, who is trying to get the house back from you. Throw in some great friends and townsfolk and enjoy the ride!

This book was honestly not for me. In the beginning I was fascinated by Lori, and I was very curious about what was going to happen when I read she inherited a mansion in Ireland. But I just couldn't connect with the characters and the romance was something I just didn't feel at all.

This is my first book by J.C Reed and I have to say I really enjoyed it.
This is part of a duet so prepare yourself for an unfinished story.
Lori and Patrick's love story is very interesting and unexpected.
Lori inherits a house in Ireland which is unusual because it was from a woman she barely knew,so it comes as a surprise.
But with that being said the inheritence comes with one big problem...her SON !!
So Lori goes to Ireland to see the property but is met with trouble,a very tall handsome bit of trouble.
Patrick is a Rockstar and he is very angry with what his mother did and at Lori for being so gorgeous and captivating.
He believes the house should be his accusing Lori of being a con woman who must have manipulated his Mother..So he decides to fight her for the house.
So as you can see this is Enemies to Lovers and also house mates because they have to live in that house together until the dispute is resolved.
The chemistry between them is strong and their is alot of sexual tension.
Honestly Bracing The Storm is a bit of an emotional rollercoaster, with a bit o humur thrown in..Lori has alot to work through and Patrick is a little bit petty and a grump.Living in the house together is like all out War.
This is book 1 so there is so much that is unanswered and hopefully those unresolved questions will come to light in book 2.
There is definately a storm brewing in the house the thing is will their hearts survive the storm.
The ending makes me want more and I am eager for the next book to see how Lori and Patrick's story will end.
I enjoyed J.C Reed's writing and I am looking forward to reading more of her books.
A Fabulous story.

**Unexpected and Can't Wait for More!**

*Bracing the Storm* is the first book in this duology. This is my first book by this author, and I will say it took me a minute to get used to her writing style. The story is told entirely from Lori's point of view. Lori has just inherited an estate in Ireland from a woman she met only once, and she has no idea why the lady left her this property. However, with some trouble back home in Brooklyn, NY, Lori is uncertain about what to do next.

When she arrives in Ireland, she faces a significant problem: a tall, very attractive rockstar, Patrick, who is the woman’s son. He believes that Lori has conned his mother out of the estate and plans to fight her for it. Their interactions and banter are entertaining, and the chemistry between them is off the charts. However, while we get a deep insight into Lori's internal struggles and emotional ups and downs, I felt there was something missing since the story is solely from her perspective.

There's a constant sense of suspense and mystery that keeps you turning pages, sitting on the edge of your seat to find out more. The story is fast-paced and can easily be read in one sitting, and the ending is unexpected, making you eager for the second book. I hope the next book is from Patrick's point of view because he has a lot of explaining to do. The author did an amazing job developing the characters, and I am definitely looking forward to the next installment.

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I enjoyed this book. Starting with the blurb, it’s an enemies to lovers story with so much playful banter and attraction between characters you can’t be mistaken.

“his dislike of me is so evident it’s pouring out of him in long, cascading waves. He definitely seems to have a personal problem with me when he doesn’t even know me.
That’s fine! I don’t like him either, and I wouldn’t bed him if the entire population depended on it.”

I don’t blame Lori for not wanting to give up the house. She inherited it. It’s hers by law. And I can understand why she doesn’t want to give it up considering her situation back home. But I also understand Patrick. This is the home where he grew up. He should be the heir, but for some reason it’s Lori who gets the house. They are forced to live together. But you can see from the storyline that hate becomes love.

“I’m deeply and utterly attracted to you.”

It’s like they are both meant to be and suited for one another. Are they perfect? No. And I think that’s what makes the story so appealing. I love love love the humor in this book. There is banter between them. It was funny, and entertaining.

It's a great book with a strong sassy female character, who is not some weak girl, who gives in easily and does everything the man wants her to do. It’s a book with a sexy hot male character who pursues her and likes her for how/who she is.

Can’t wait for the next book.

Bracing the Storm? It's more like Brace Yourself cause that ending! But let me back it up a bit. I was drawn to J.C. Reed’s newest release not just for the Enemies-to-Lovers Rockstar trope, but I love when there is witty banter weaved in with the characters.

In the case of Patrick, the rockstar, and Lori, the curvy FMC and, their utter disdain for each other made their slow-burn romance even sweeter, as it came through in their banter. After Lori inherits a mansion for a stranger, she checks it out and has a not-so-cute “meet-cute” with Patrick. She initially assumes he works as a gardener but later discovers he is a wealthy, famous rockstar with ties to the house. Patrick refuses to leave the mansion, and Lori doesn’t budge either.

Bracing the Storm is told through Lori’s POV. I experienced her sassy, upbeat personality as well as some of the pain and anguish she felt throughout the story. The lead-up to the ending brought several questions that I’m hoping will be answered in Book 2. I’m hoping we will get Patrick’s POV, too, in the next one. I thoroughly enjoyed it!

This one came my way out of the blue, and I love trying new authors, so I gave it a go. I mean, forced proximity with a rock star and set in Ireland? Yes please.

There's a lot to love about this one. The setting, of course, but the small town charm with it's colorful people won my heart immediately. The main characters, Lori and Patrick, are well developed and relatable.

While Lori might put some readers off, I think there's a lot in her backstory that we might not know yet that validates her personality. And a growly rock star who's trying to get under her skin and get her under him but has a heart of gold certainly has its appeal.

As a squirrel-brained reader, part of this dragged with introspection and descriptions, so I found myself skimming. And the fact that it's a cliffhanger I got into without warning made it jarring, so this was a 3.5 star read for me.

Now that you’re forewarned, if you’re at all more patient than I am (very likely), I think you’ll love the first half of Patrick and Lori's story.

✨ARC Review✨

This book was an easy read for me, took me just a bit to get into the book on the beginning but once I did i couldn’t put it down!

I was not expecting the plot twist at the ending, and I’m not talking about the book ending in a Cliff hanger which I can’t wait to get my hands on the next book!

The chemistry between Patrick and Lori was pretty good. There was a bit of slow burn, angst and definitely banter between them for a big portion of the book.

Nonetheless i enjoyed this book, and can’t wait to read the next one and get my questions answered!

JC Reed, great job!👏🏼👏🏼

Enemies to Lovers

If you love your books with plenty of banter between two people who are at odds but at the same time can’t help their minds wandering to so much more, this is the book for you. When Lori finds she has inherited a mansion in Ireland she leaves her issues behind but finds another one in her new home. That comes in the form of Patrick a grumpy rockstar who who believes that Lori tricked his mom into this inheritance.

The storyline made this a page turner and I can’t wait to see what comes next for these two.

This is my first book from this author. I love a good Ireland brogue so I couldn’t resist this force proximity romance. Lori’s life is a hot mess and even flying across the world doesn’t help. This story is adorably funny with snark that is right up my alley. Chapter one had me hooked because I was laughing so hard at her and her misadventures with running dialog. This story brings you in and makes you laugh, makes you worry, makes you want to throw things and has tons of tension filled moments. What I wasn’t prepared for was the cliff hanger. I was blissfully reading and long and bam! There it was but that’s okay because I have to know what happened and I’ll be here for part two of this duet!!!

I signed up for this ARC and went in mostly blind. I am not disappointed AT ALL. We were warned that it ends on a cliffhanger and where to stop if we wanted to feel an HEA. While I love a good fairy tale, I couldn't stop there. I wanted the cliffhanger, and I have absolutely zero regrets. The FMC has no idea who the MMC actually is, and I was there for it! This was such a good read, with plenty of angst. I can't wait for Catching the Storm! Solid 4/5⭐️

✨ARC Review✨

The tropes sounded right up my alley with this one, but it fell flat for me unfortunately. I didn't find there was much chemistry between the MCs, and the FMC got on my nerves, which is too bad because this is a single POV story.

Lori was prude and immature, and I'm sorry but who doesn't listen to music, ever?! Unrealistic at best, especially since there were LITERAL GROUPIES WITH SIGNS on the front lawn professing their love for Patrick, and you don't catch on that he's a rockstar?!

This one wasn't for me, but thank you to the author for a copy in exchange for a review. All opinions are my own.

Amazon / Paperback / Apple / B&N / Kobo

Lori's inherited a house in Ireland. Sounds like a fantasy, but when she arrives, she finds someone there who thinks she manipulated her way into inheriting the house. Now she's living in the home, at odds with the gorgeous asshole who wants her gone. She shouldn't give into their attraction, but somehow she can't resist. But what will she do when she finds out he's the real con? That he's the one who manipulated her?

I cannot wait for book 2 now! Patrick and Lori's enemies to lovers tension was so thick, it built to levels that I knew weren't sustainable. Eventually they had to give in, and when they did - wow. They may have started off as pure antagonists, but by the end, I was cheering them on. I hope Capturing The Storm is coming soon, because I'm seriously impatient to find out how they're going to get out of the mess Bracing the Storm left them in.

Bracing the Storm is the first book in a duet by J.C. Reed. As a fan of Rockstar Romance, I couldn’t resist reading this book. It features a heroine who inherits a mansion in Ireland, and upon her arrival, she is unfortunately forced to deal with a grumpy yet handsome stranger who lives there and is about to make her life miserable while she tries to sell the place.

The book is told entirely from Lori’s perspective, and while reading, I felt a great deal of sympathy for her due to Patrick’s treatment of her. It wasn’t her fault that she inherited the mansion; she was simply trying to do what was best for herself, especially after losing her job. I admired how she handled Patrick; she refused to let him win, even though he had every right to fight for the place she had inherited. Ultimately, the truth about who he is and what the mansion means to him is revealed.

Lori and Patrick had epic banter, and in the small town, everyone was aware of the growing dynamics between them. This banter eventually gave way to romantic tension, which ultimately developed much more, and I was completely on board with it. My favorite thing was how unaware Lori was of Patrick’s true identity; even he was confused that she didn’t recognize him while others did.

My only issue is that I wish I could have read Patrick’s point of view to understand his feelings for Lori better. From the heroine’s perspective, I could infer a bit of what he might be thinking, but not much. The ending of the book definitely caught me off guard, and even the heroine was caught off guard. No spoilers from me, but if I were Lori, I would be fleeing, too, after what happened and not being able to trust Patrick. Now, I have to wait for the next book in the duet to find out what happens next, which shouldn’t be a long wait since this year is passing by so quickly.

Overall, this is a great beginning to Lori and Patrick’s story, and I give it four stars. I’m eager to see what challenges J.C. Reed has in store for the characters next and whether Lori will achieve a happily ever after with Patrick after what happened in this book.

Single/Dual POV: Single POV.

Cliffhanger: Yes.

Would I recommend this book? Yes. If you enjoy reading a Small Town Romance story where a heroine inherits a mansion and must deal with a grumpy roommate, then check out this book. Just be aware that it ends on a cliffhanger.

From dusty, cranky Brooklyn nyc streets to lush sweeping landscape of Ireland, Reed takes us on a dreamy ride. It's sprinkled with magic of the land that enamours Lori Crest, as we fall in love with Irish locales and people alike.
But before that is lots and lots of Uber grumpiness from the conflicting personality of Mr Grump himself- Patrick "Paddy the Storm" Walsh. His temper follows him like an impending storm mood 24/7 and Lori has to share the house with him...traffic cones and all

“dark, overcast sky with a lot of scowling”.

Pushed and tied into an inheritance package by Matriarch Roisin Walsh, the story is about getting a new start when old one is drowning you like a quicksand. Lori has no choice of staying and Paddy isn't letting her stay.
The end was the most unbelievable
Of characters, not much was spent on building them. There were lot of description fillers, small movements in a scene and inner feelings. Which were sadly inept. Lori has one predominant emotion - Lust. She gets googly eyed transfixed on physicality of Paddy and just drools all over him. This Grinch was a dichotomy too, so his pettiness in diviiding the house, then extravagance in gifts....kinda left me flummoxed.
Since it's book one of Duet, the buildup took all the space. no growth, no explanation, no reason.
The writing was average at best. I don't know I'm even interested in reading further, since it became lengthy and boring.
The plot was interesting tho

I ate up my first read from J.C. Reed and wow, what a fun story. This book brings you straight into the beautiful Emerald Isle where our quirky Brooklyn heroine Lori battles a grumpy Irish rockstar for a castle. It’s an enemies-to-lovers tale that takes its sweet time unfolding, and well worth the wait.

Told in Lori's point of view, her unusual one-time meeting with Patrick's mother leaves her with an inheritance she didn't expect. As she leaves her tattered remains of a life in Brooklyn and arrives for a new adventure she ends up face-to-face with Patrick, aka the angry Irishman living in the estate. He’s convinced Lori is some sort of fraud who scammed his mother, and the tension between them is electrifying, to say the least. Their banter? Deliciously intense.

Patrick “Paddy the Storm” Walsh, an Irish rockstar is less than thrilled to learn that his mother has left their family estate to a total stranger. This guy has a ton of potential as the brooding, complicated love interest, but we only scratch the surface of his character. He’s a mystery wrapped in moody sarcasm, and I’m seriously craving more from him. I want to delve into his thoughts and feelings, especially as things heat up with Lori.

The charming small-town vibes, the enemies-to-lovers dynamic, and of course, the forced proximity amps up the romance. But not everything was perfect. There were moments that felt like they dragged on a bit, and Lori's lust for Patrick's body sometimes overshadowed the emotional connection that was begging to be developed further.

But here’s the kicker: the book ends on a confusing cliffhanger! So be prepared to hold your breath and eagerly await the next installment. Whether you’re a fan of romance, a bit of mystery, or just love a good adventure, Bracing the Storm is the perfect escape. It has relatable characters, sizzling chemistry, and plenty of twists and turns that will keep you guessing.

Thank you to Ms. Reed for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.

This is my first read by this author. I am not quite sure how I feel about it, and don't totally feel equipped to review it, because the story isn't done yet.

Lori has inherited an estate in Ireland, from a woman she met only briefly. She's not even sure why, but is going there to check it out, anyway. Her life in Manhatten is a dumpster fire, so this escape to figure out her inheritance has come at just the right time.

Her arrival is a comedy of errors, culminating in a late night pick up in the middle of nowhere by a guy called Paddy, who delivers her to the estate and promptly sends her off to the "barn". She assumes he's a gardener or something, and fires his grumpy a$$ the next day. Except he's not the gardener... he's the son of the late Mrs. Walsh, who left the mansion to Lori, and he resents her presence in a place that he feels should rightfully belong to him.

What follows is a lot of angry back and forth and somewhat childish pranking on his part, all underscored by the attraction that simmers between the pair. How will this turn out? Who will get the estate, and will they destroy each other in the process, or will they submit to their growing desires?

I wish I felt more of the attraction between Lori and Patrick. There was a lot of talk about how rude he was, how gorgeous he was, and how confused Lori was about why she was even there, but I felt like I was missing something between the stand offs and the intimate moments. Like a switch flipped while I was blinking, and I missed it.

That being said, I really am curious about the why of it all. Why did this near stranger leave the house to Lori? Does Patrick know more than he's letting on? I feel compelled to finish the duet so I can discover the answers, and I hope it ends up elevating the whole thing for me by the end.

I'm calling it 3 stars with room to grow in the hopes that it'll be stronger by the finish.

Thank you to the author for my gifted ARC. I am voluntarily sharing my honest review.

“Patrick Walsh is the storm who pulled me in only to leave me broken and wounded. I have no strength to brace him. I have no strength to brace the storm.”

**crawls into a literally ball while reading**

This book did some things for me. Honestly I wasn’t a hundred percent sure of what was going on initially. The beginning of the book is up for interpretation of what might be coming, there are a lot of moments in the book actually that gives you the ability to predict what might be coming next. But this author will throw you a complete curveball, you’ll never see ANYTHING coming. WHICH WAS AMAZING.

We love strong main characters and that’s exactly what you will find with both Patrick and Lori. The banter between them will continuously smack a smile across your face while their chemistry, thats burning deep inside them waiting for the perfect time to surface, will leave you begging for more by the end of the book. Despite the struggles and serious life decisions that have fated our two characters meet cue, Patrick and Lori find a way to each other in their own special way. But is it enough? I’ve got some HUGE expectations for book two from our author J.C Reed, because how dare you end it like that?! WHAT!

If you like small town romances, forced proximity, enemies to lovers, and HUGE plot twist… you’re going to love this one!

I will say that this is my first read from this author, and it was easy to follow and gave just enough UMPH to keep you locked in. She goes into enough back story to let you fully understand the circumstances of the situations our characters are experiencing which I am sure is leading up to the big WHAT IFS in book two. Overall, I do HIGHLY suggest reading as long as you can be patient enough to wait for the second release: Capturing the Storm.

Bracing the Storm by J.C. Reed is a slow-burn enemies-to-lovers romance that drops you straight into the lush green hills of Ireland and the middle of an inheritance dispute between a moody Irish rockstar and a Brooklyn girl with no idea what she just signed up for.

This was my first book by J.C. Reed, and while it took a minute to get used to her style, I found the writing quirky and entertaining. The story is told entirely from Lori's point of view (yep, no peeks into our grumpy MMC’s brain). While her inner monologue is sometimes hilarious, I wanted to hear what Patrick was thinking, especially toward the end. Hoping book 2 delivers on that!

Lori inherits an estate in Ireland from a woman she only met once, and understandably, she’s confused. Life back in Brooklyn isn’t exactly sunshine and roses, so she heads to Ireland... only to find a very tall, very attractive, very angry Irishman living there: Patrick Walsh—aka the woman’s son, who is 100% convinced Lori scammed his mom. The tension is immediate, and the banter is biting.

There’s a lot to love here...small-town charm, swoony grumpiness, and an inheritance setup with forced proximity. That said, some moments dragged. Lori spends a lot of time in her head, and while that adds depth, it sometimes feels like filler. Also, her laser focus on Patrick’s body got repetitive, and it felt like lust outweighed emotional growth between them. And while Patrick had potential as the brooding, complicated love interest, we didn’t get him yet. He’s kind of a mystery wrapped in moody sarcasm, and I need more.

And fair warning: it ends on a cliffhanger.

All in all, this one’s for fans of:

✨ Small-town + inheritance drama

BRACING THE STORM is the first instalment in JC Reed’s contemporary, adult, erotic rockstar duet focusing on Patrick Walsh and Lori Crest.

Told from first person perspective (Lori) BRACING THE STORM follows Lori Crest on her journey to Ireland in the wake of inheriting a mansion from a woman she barely knew but Lori’s arrival in Ireland is met with trepidation of the unknown when our heroine discovers she is not alone. Enter Patrick Walsh, the previous owner’s son, and a man who refuses to step aside for our story line heroine. As the relationship between Patrick and Lori enters a state of détente, the appearance of the ultimate betrayal send our heroine on the run, in an effort to save her heart and her fracture self-esteem.

The world building follows Lori as she begins to establish a relationship not only with her ‘roommate’ but with the residents of a small countryside village in Ireland . As Lori struggles to come to terms with the reality of her life, a secret reveals the truth she never knew.

The relationship between Lori and Patrick begins acrimoniously. Patrick refuses to accept Lori’s explanation, and the inheritance of the family home, and in this, our couple begin to push one another’s buttons until someone pushes too far. The $ex scenes are limited but passionate and intense.

We are introduced to several local villagers, as well as Lori’s friend Mia, café owner Sinead, and local attorney Duncan Ellis.

BRACING THE STORM is a story of secrets, betrayal, family and loss. The fast paced premise is intriguing and emotional; the romance is seductive; the characters are desperate and determined. BRACING THE STORM ends on a cliff hanger-you have been warned.

5 Stars.

When Lori inherits an Irish mansion and finds a grumpy rock god with the emotional capability of a brick, already living there? You can bet your a$$ she's not leaving — she's redecorating. 😏

Bracing the Storm is top shelf enemies-to-lovers deliciousness. We’ve got tension thick enough to cut with a knife, forced proximity that hits all levels of hot, not to mention a brooding man who practically growls every time he breathes. Sign me up!

Lori – she's sassy, determined and absolutely will not let Patrick stand in her way of this fresh start that she desperately needs. She will go toe to toe with him and not back down no matter how charming and manipulative he is!

Patrick – oh hell! He’s all walls and growls — with the kind of tragic backstory that makes you want to hug him and scream into a pillow at the same time, but you know - with a guitar, and abs for days. 🔥🥵

I loved so much about this book— small-town appeal, a sexy rockstar, and a forced proximity filled with angst and unresolved tension that you just get so absorbed in the story . This book is everything I want in a slow-burn romance. If you like your romances with bite, angst, and enough spice to make your Kindle sweat, Bracing the Storm is your new obsession.

This book is part of a duet and **shudder** leaves on a bit of a cliffhanger but book 2 is coming so don’t get your panties in a twist. This one is told from Lori’s point of view so you KNOW that the next one, told from Patrick’s is going to be on fire!!

Thank you JC Reed for the emotional wreckage and I can't wait to see what you do to me in the next one!

Synopsis:
Down on her luck, Lori inherits an estate in Ireland—only to find it comes with an unexpected roommate: brooding rockstar Patrick Walsh. He wants her out, she’s not budging, and their clashing personalities quickly spark fireworks. Living together wasn’t part of the plan… but neither was falling for each other.

My thoughts:
This was a fast-paced and enjoyable read, but fair warning—it ends on a cliffhanger, and I didn’t realize that going in! If cliffhangers aren’t your thing, you might want to wait until the next book is out.

Lori heads to Ireland after her life in New York falls apart, never expecting to share the inherited mansion with a stranger—let alone a famous rockstar. At first, she doesn’t even know who Patrick is, but their tension-filled dynamic makes for some great banter right from the start.Lori cheekily calls him “The Grump,” and he sweetly calls her “Love.”

As the story unfolds, lines blur, attraction builds, and real feelings begin to surface. We only get Lori’s POV in this book, so Patrick remains a bit of a mystery. There are secrets and suspense simmering in the background, adding to the intrigue.

Overall, Bracing the Storm is a quick, fun read with plenty of tension and heart. I can’t wait for book two to see how it all plays out after that ending!

Thank you to J.C. Reed for the ARC. This review reflects my honest opinions.

Patrick and Lori’s stormy beginning

This romance is a stormy ride. Lori inherited a house and has to herself facing a storm from a stranger who is clearly not just a simple gardener or something. He is so much more than Lori knows. Patrick has grown up in this house, in this town and everyone seems to love him. And he will fight her for the house.
Their encounters, the bantering and the talks are both entertaining and character describing. While we have only Lori’s point of view, we get a very good definition of Patrick. The vibes he gives off, the way he behaves but also the torness he seems to be in sometimes.
Lori also feels a little bit torn between what would be the right thing to do and what she wants for herself. She is a bit of a mess at home and desperately needs a solution and help.
Both don’t really open up about themselves to the other one, clearly founded on their opponent position situation.
But the line between dislike and desire is fine and so they get closer. And it could be the start of something wonderful, would have Lori not find something that shatters her secret hopes and dreams. And she makes a decision without talking to Patrick. And it does look real bad for him, but sometimes not everything is as it looks at first sight.
It ends on a suspenseful cliffhanger, and I really can’t wait for the conclusion.
