AKA Wray Delaney

Sally Gardner grew up and still lives in London. Being dyslexic, she did not learn to read or write until she was fourteen and had been thrown out of several schools, labeled unteachable, and sent to a school for maladjusted children. Despite this, she gained a degree with highest honors at a leading London art college, followed by a scholarship to a theater school, and then went on to become a very successful costume designer, working on some notable productions.

After the births of twin daughters and a son, she started first to illustrate and then to write picture books and chapter books, usually with fairytale- or otherwise magical subject matter. She has been called 'an idiosyncratic genius' by London’s Sunday Times.

Well...there is no story but I loved the illustration. I consider it more like a game (look at the pictures, try to find this and that) rather than a book with a story or at least something to tell. Maybe it's not educational but it's fun !

Daughter and I would have enjoyed the book a bit more if the illustrations were a bit clearer. This was more of a find such and so things at each fairy shop but the illustrations weren’t very friendly to the eyes so that was a bit of a downer.

Love the illustrations but I think the way the text is displayed could be difficult for younger readers! Otherwise it’s such a lovely and cute book with a unique concept🤍

Interesting story. Suprizing text and strange names for all the shops in a town. This lets child's imagination works further. Funny illustrations, very good for discussions and role-plays with your child.
