Cheryl Douglas is a USA Today Bestselling author who kicks back in the country surrounded by farm land and nature. Her life revolves around family, country music, sports, travel, caffeine, chocolate, and deadlines.
This is a 3.75 stars. I enjoyed it, I'm glad it wasn't longer. I liked the age gap, the single dad, her parents. She was pretty spot on for most 25yr olds. I understand most of the push/pull, her fear of betrayal and the author was able to make the heroine reflect on her feelings, it bothered me how she still tried to back out/change her mind after being sure about her decisions. Also she sucked at handling her ex, wouldn't let others help and that annoyed me. If he's harassing you and jeopardizing your marriage them get a restraining order. I did get emotional 85% of the way through when he started to pushh her away. That was well written. Overall enjoyed it and it was a nice quick read between other books.
Alisa is 25, lives in Nashville and recently broke up with her singer fiance, Nick, when she caught him cheating with an ex-girlfriend. She is still getting over the hurt and betrayal and he is trying to get her back. To show him what he threw away, she non-stop parties, getting her pictures in all the magazines. Her dad, Trey, finally says she has to settle down or he'll cut her off ... so he gives her the money to start to boutique which gives her something to focus on.
Liam is a gazillionaire twenty years older than Alisa, lives in San Francisco and distrusts women ... he enjoys their company but doubts any would want to be with him if he wasn't rich and successful. He is raising his 14-year-old daughter (her mother isn't in her life because all she wanted was money not responsibility).
Alisa and Liam meet on a flight to Las Vegas and there's an instant connection. They agree to spend their one day/evening/night in Vegas together, have fun and then part ways. Liam decides he can't let Alisa go, though, and proposes ... and she accepts. It seemed like a good idea at the time ... until Alisa wakes up the next day as Mrs. Bryson and Liam won't let her back out of it.
This is part of a series called Nashville Nights ... this is the next generation. I hadn't read any others in the series and I didn't need to ... enough background was provided.
I liked the writing style ... it was a quick and easy read. I can't imagine meeting and instantly falling in love with someone and marrying them within 12 hours but I left my sense of belief at the door and went with it.
I liked the characters ... Alisa matured a lot over the short time span. Liam seemed like a nice and generous guy. Despite the fact she doesn't have a mother in her life and her father is away on business a lot, Liam's daughter, Abby, is likeable and not spoiled. I liked Alisa and Liam's family members.
As a head's up, the language and activities tend to be mature at times.
One thing that annoyed me, though, was Liam's constant use of the endearment "sweetheart" ... he called Alisa "Sweetheart" all the time, even when they had just met on the plane. I found it way overused.
Seriously LOVE Liam and Abby for Alisa. Love when love brings down an alpha male. Loved Trey and Luc's response to Liam as well! Another great book by Douglas!
This was the first book by Cheryl Douglas that I have read and I can say it will definitely NOT be the last. I was pleasantly surprised by the book. I mean FINALLY a book where the hero is the first one willing to take a chance and put his heart on the line.
Alisa Turner, the daughter of country legend Trey Turner, is a twenty-five-year old who is still trying to get over a broken heart. Her broken heart happened a year ago when she caught her fiance’ with another woman, but still it's been hard for her to get over. In order to get over Nick "The Weasel" Sinclair, Alisa has been doing anything and everything to make Nick think she's over him. Namely, doing things she probably really shouldn't be doing and getting in gossip mags. Now enough is enough and Trey makes a deal with Alisa. Trey will finance Alisa's business venture, provided she cleans up her act and stays out of the gossip mags. Easy enough. With her nose to the grindstone, Alisa put all of her energy into preparing her fashion boutique to open. She even managed to stay out of the spotlight until her final buying trip to Las Vegas where she meets Liam Bryson.
Liam Bryson is a forty-four-year old single father who isn't into relationships; at least not serious relationships. Liam is the owner and CEO of Bryson’s, an exclusive boutique hotel chain. He's accustomed to women being attracted to him for his money and power. When he meets Alisa, he makes it a point not to tell her who he really is. For Liam, Alisa was someone he wants to spend time with and really get to know.
The two agree to have dinner together with the possibility of something more. For all of her wild ways, Alisa isn't the type of girl who goes around having one night stands. Dinner leads to drinking which leads to Liam and Alisa getting married. The next morning, Alisa awakes to the realization that she just made the biggest mistake of her life. She wants an annulment, but Liam refuses. He wants her to give them a chance because he knows that what they share could be the real thing. Of course, the crap hits the fan before either one of them realizes it and the whole world knows about their wedding. Surprisingly, the biggest supporter of their marriage turns out to be the one person Alisa least expects.
High Stakes isn't without its drama. “The Weasle” makes it known that Alisa stills wants him and is just playing hard to get. Of course, with his history, it doesn’t matter that she’s already promised herself to another man. If anyone deserved to be knocked on their butt with one punch, it’s Nick. High Stakes is a story of two people who have never known true love before and are trying to figure it out while being thousands of miles apart, never seeing each other and living very busy work lives.
It takes a tragedy to make these two realize that the love they share is a once in a lifetime phenomenon. If they are each willing to take a leap of faith and make some changes, they both just might have won the best hand ever dealt to them.
Last year I read Trey and Sienna's story, so when I had the chance to read about their daughter Alisa, I jumped at the chance.
It was a great read, but it didn't blow me away quite like Trey and Sienna's story had. I described their story as a read much like a soap opera. Alisa and Liam's story felt more like a reality show.
As always Cheryl's writing style is spot on. This is a book that you simply can't put down, but for some reason, it didn't work as well for me as some of her other works. Maybe because Alissa is a spoiled little rich girl who gets everything she wants even when she's being reprimanded by her father, or that Abby shows no sign of resenting her father's much younger wife. Or maybe because of Liam's offer to have sex shortly after a heart attack. My mom's had many and I have a book that says sex is a no no for quite awhile after heart attack, no matter how young, rich and handsome you are.
OK.
That sounds like I didn't like the book and that wouldn't be the case. I gobbled this book up like it was candy.
Why?
I really came to like Alisa, though everything about her is not what I usually like in characters or friends for that matter, but the thing is, she grew up. She figured out what she wanted and she went for it and didn't let go, even when things weren't looking so hot.
The book had its ups and downs for me, but I enjoyed it and I definitely want to check out more of the Next Generation Nashville series.
Dumb We're supposed to feel empathy for a 25 year old spoiled bitch princess whose father is a country star, a former model, who got shafted by a different country star, who drunkenly ends up in the tabloids, whose father gave her a business loan for 1 single clothes boutique, which then married a man who's sole owner of a Fortune 500 company worth a billion dollars, who still can't own up to her alcohol consumption, who won't leave her parents & family to do the hard work of marriage. I'm supposed to like her? Why? She's a spoiled child.
Talk about Love at first sight! This book is a prime example that it’s true and it can work. Even though it takes a teenager to bring the two to their senses. Full Review - http://wp.me/p3a6Qw-4v
This angst filled drama was a roller coaster of highs and lows as this unusual couple tried to decide if their attraction was enough to build a future together with all of the odds against them. It's sure to hold your interest as doubts and distance work to continuously destroy their fragile relationship. Cool rational minds and each of their loving families help bring some truth and reality to their union. And finally, Alisa and Liam, after realizing how much they would regret losing this one amazing opportunity for happiness, put their relationship above distractions, business, and all other obstacles. They wanted forever with each other no matter what they had to face to have it. Good For Them! Good Read!!!!
This is a story of love at first sight wrapped up in Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous. It tries hard to capture "it had to be you" with too many about face turns. I could not like the heroine very much as she was really a princess. When Liam demonstrates callous behavior I was ready to put the book down; instead I prevailed to the HEA that involves signing divorce papers. Really.
I love the concept of this book. It started off really well, but then it just lost momentum. It also felt like the author aged the main characters. Instead of them being 25 and 40 it felt like 40 and 60. I found myself bored and lacked interested in their immature behaviour.
I really enjoyed this book and was hooked from page one. There’s a bit of heartbreak too and loved that I cried for Liam and Alisa. How will he make enough time for their relationship especially since they live so far from each other? Loved their happy ever after and I recommend this book.
This is a very good book that emphasized the characters and how they relate to each other! You get to know Alisa’s family and Liam’s family! There’s parents, grandparents, kids and good friends from Nashville to SanFrancisco! I enjoyed this very much! I received this as an ARC but, it didn’t affect my review!
Honestly, I was expecting more. Everything moved so fast their wasn't a real story. It was all over the place. I didn't like that half. The book was about the ex, like he wasn't that important. Also, the main male was supposed to be this 40-something man, but he acted like he was an insecure 20 year old.
Usually enjoy an age gap romance, but every chapter seemed to just repeat. Eventually became a downward spiral. Struggled to finish it and found the finish feeling unfinished and unsatisfying.
I read this in one day because the flow of the story was great! I loved the "love at first sight" comment that made the whole marriage worth doing. Cheryl Douglas really knows how to tell a story!
i really don't understand how both Goodreads and Amazon do not have similar book covers? i had another one?? no option to change that. "Nashville Night Next Generation series" 10 books. i got it for free. October 9, 2012. contemporary romance. will read more soon.
Lots of emotional flip flopping after arguments. not my preferred storyline\themes. Characters were interesting and it was well written, moved along smoothly. TMI intimate and bit if language.
Just good. Two stubborn people. One very incredible girl. And a falling head over heal love. And you have a great story. I loved each page. I think I smiled through the whole book. And cheered for them.
If you haven't read Shameless go back before you read this. I love the whole series and I recommend it. You will cry, laugh, and smile. Love does come at the most unpredictable times. You won't regret it.
Two people who are in love and have to learn how to be happy. Good to the last chapter with interesting twists in the plot. Great characters, well developed.
