Putting down roots means something very different to this Midwest girl and sexy Montana cowboy.
Natalie Wrightloves being a development coordinator for new construction. But while the travel was exciting at first, she’s ready to put her suitcase away. All she needs is one more successful project, which seems simple until a certain cowboy walks into her public hearing in Marietta, Montana.
Sam Mileshas his hands full overseeing the Flying J ranch and being a single dad. But when he learns there are plans to drop some swanky resort on the land next door, he will do all he can to block the project—a task that would be infinitely easier without Natalie’s megawatt smile.
They’re soon exchanging playful barbs, neither willing to give an inch on which goal should take priority for the town. Then news of an endangered species habitat on the development site threatens to jeopardize the resort’s progress, and Sam and Natalie team up to protect both their livelihoods—and try not to get their hearts broken along the way.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book, given to me by Tule Publishing via BookFunnel. All thoughts and opinions are my own. 3.5 stars. A romance between two vibrant, honest characters, “Choosing the Montana Cowboy”, by Kyra Jacobs, is an enjoyable read full of playful yet also emotional moments while the leads find out the reasons they’re so good together. I loved the natural way Sam and Natalie are attracted to each other and explore the mutual feelings and chemistry while also amusing themselves in each other’s company. It was cute to watch the single dad have “his first crush in years”. There’s no unnecessary drama, only some obstacles they have to overcome so that the romance between the Montana cowboy and the city girl can thrive. I also liked the love in Sam’s family and how they embrace Natalie into that circle of fondness. They are great secondary characters, too, ready to show affection and humor.
Choosing the Montana Cowboy is the first book in Kyra Jacobs’ excellent new series, The Miles of Montana. The book is set in the fictional town of Marietta, Montana and is built around the Miles family. We meet the grandparents, Eli and Sunnie as well as siblings Sam, Norah and Jaxson, their parents and Sam’s daughter Madison. Book one features Sam who runs the family ranch, the Flying J. Each sibling has their own home on the property. In addition, they also run a lodge and cabins with a rustic atmosphere. Sam is divorced and hasn’t done much dating since he’s been single.
As the book opens, Natalie Wright of Terakion Enterprises has been sent to Marietta to provide information at a public hearing on a luxury resort the company plans to open there. She is from Indiana and travels around the country as the project coordinator, setting up the new business. Sam and his family hear about the project and learn that it would take away some of the neighbor’s land they rent for their ranch. In addition, the luxury resort would be built right next door to their own lodge. He lets Natalie know about their ongoing leases and how much they depend on the land. Sam notices chemistry between himself and Natalie. He doesn’t want to have feelings for the woman who could destroy his ranch and lodge business. He doesn’t know how she feels about him.
Natalie is working on getting a promotion and she needs this project to succeed. She is concerned to learn that her company wasn’t aware of the leases or the competitor’s lodge. The Miles family invites Natalie to the ranch to show her the beautiful scenery, their animals and lodge buildings. She is invited to join the family for dinner. In sharing about their ranch, it is mentioned that there are some endangered ferrets that live amongst them. Natalie realizes this could put an end to using the Marietta location. Natalie has spent time with Sam and is noticing she is developing feelings towards him as well. She likes his family and doesn’t want to ruin their ranch. She alerts her boss to the ferrets situation. She and Sam share a passionate kiss which leads to them spending time together alone. The future is uncertain for them as they live half a country apart.
I really enjoyed this book. Kyra has given us a well written story with very likable characters. The interactions between them are entertaining to read. There is some angst and uncertainty as to what will happen to Sam and Natalie’s relationship once her part in the project is finished. It is always so wonderful to return to Marietta and I m thrilled the author has set this series there. This is a five star book I highly recommend. I’m looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
I was fortunate to receive this ARC from Tule Publishing in exchange for my honest review.
Choosing the Montana Cowboy begins The Miles of Montana series, set in one of my all-time favorite fictional small towns, Marietta, Montana. Determined city girl, Natalie, is about to meet one stubborn country cowboy, Sam, as the project she’s been sent to Marietta, Montana, to oversee is about to have its first debut to this small town’s residents. To say that many are upset and outraged about the planned luxury resort being plopped down in ranch country would be a vast understatement. There are also underlying reasons that were not made clear to Natalie’s company (or that they ignored), which will make this project almost impossible to complete… if it’s addressed in the right way. Adversaries turned allies will make the sparks of attraction that are flying between Sam and Natalie turn this project on its heels, and perhaps, give two passionate people the love of a lifetime if they’ll take a few risks and open their hearts to each other.
I enjoyed Natalie and Sam’s story so much, and adored Sam’s daughter, Madison. There is a bit of world-building, there has to be in the opening story of a series, yet it all fell together naturally as we meet the people of this community as they face down a corporation, save an endangered species of ferrets, and fall in love, unexpectedly. There is an additional character in this story, one who may not have an actual voice but is important to resolving the conflict between Sam and Natalie… Montana, Big Sky Country. Sam will introduce Nat to the beauty of the place he loves and calls home, to the ranches, how his spread works alongside his neighbor’s, and how this community already has a resort (his family’s) set beneath the shadow of Copper Mountain. The beauty of the countryside, the natural habitat of animals (including one endangered species) will speak volumes to Natalie…and soon have her working hard to stop the project that recently meant everything she wanted for her career. Soon, that promised promotion won’t hold a candle to the life that Sam and Nat can create here, on this land, together.
If you love starting a new series, a new adventure in a fictional town that is rich in history, a couple who really do belong together, with the promise of more delectable stories to come based on the people we’ve met here, well, then you’ll fall in love with Choosing the Montana Cowboy by Kyra Jacobs. I’m really looking forward to the rest of this series.
This book is really a very sweet love story, one where his whole family is right there to tease him about it every day. This is another one of those stories to tell their grandkids later in life and be very happy about how they met and fell in love. Natalie Wright loves being a development coordinator for new construction. She always loved to travel and be the first to meet the new town people and to overcome any worries that they may have about the towns upcoming project. But now she is ready to stay put and put the suitcase away and if she can close one more successful project (this one) she will be up for promotion and no more travel. And all is smooth sailing until a certain cowboy walks into her public hearing in Marietta, Montana. Sam Mileshas has his hand full overseeing the Flying J ranch and being a single dad. But when he learns there are plans to drop some swanky resort on the land next door, he will do all he can to block the project—a task that would be infinitely easier without Natalie’s megawatt smile. They have cabins here on the ranch and this new resort would put them out of business. Natalie and Sam exchange a few barbs about how the ranch next door should be handled. And then there is news of an endangered species living on the property that may halt the whole deal.
Natalie Wright is a project manager for a company that is planning on building a resort outside Marietta Montana in the shadow of Copper Mountain. This is a key project for her, giving her the boost she needs to translate her travelling job into a supervisory position where she can work remotely from home. Sam Miles is the opposition. His family own a ranch and a small family operated resort next door to the potential new luxury project. As well, they have leased part of their neighbour's property for feed for their cattle. This new resort is going to disrupt every part of their lives. The antagonism between Nat and Sam is instant, but the attraction follows very close behind. But Sam has been burned before by a city girl and he's got a teenage daughter to consider. Besides, Nat is passing through and on the opposite side of the conflict. It was really nice seeing Nat get to know the Miles family, the grandparents and Sam's siblings. His parents are away, so he's feeling his responsibilities. The star of the show was Copper Mountain and the Big Sky Country that Sam shows off to Natalie as part of her education about the area and also getting to know Sam. The resolution of the conflict is kind of amusing and the ending satisfying.

Choosing the Montana Cowboy ~ The Miles of Montana #1 by Kyra Jacobs.
Book blurb: Putting down roots means something very different to this Midwest girl and sexy Montana cowboy.
Kyra Jacobs delivers a heartwarming and engaging start to her new series with Choosing the Montana Cowboy. Set in the charming small town of Marietta, Montana, this contemporary romance pairs strong-willed businesswoman Natalie Wright with rugged, hometown hero Sam Miles. Their first encounter at a heated town meeting sets the stage for both conflict and chemistry.
Sam is fighting to preserve his family's legacy and the soul of Marietta, while Natalie represents the corporate machine that could change everything. But as their paths continue to cross, the lines between duty and desire begin to blur. Kyra masterfully balances emotional tension, small-town charm, and slow-burn romance, creating characters you want to root for from page one.
Natalie and Sam's journey is not just about saving a town—it's about discovering what truly matters: love, community, and finding a place to call home.
With vivid storytelling, relatable characters, and a satisfying mix of drama and romance, Choosing the Montana Cowboy is a promising beginning to The Miles of Montana series. Fans of heartfelt, small-town love stories will find much to enjoy here. Highly recommended—I can't wait to see where Kyra takes us next!
Kyra Jacobs is an author whose Bourbon Falls Series is still a favorite of mine Now she has her characters in the marvelous fictional town of Marietta, Montana with Choosing the Montana Cowboy (The Miles of Montana Book 1). Natalie Wright and Sam Miles find themselves at odds over the new resort that Natalie is pushing to be built near Marietta. If not for this project these two would have been friends and more a lot sooner. I liked both these characters very much, understanding both viewpoints so it was difficult to take a side. This is an author who can think outside of the box, because she sure did with this one. I never expected the twists that happened. All I can say is thank goodness for some of God’s smaller creatures. A delightful story where family and community are important, heritage too, but also taking a chance on love.
Wonderful first book in this new series where Sam and Natalie start as adversaries, but they actually ended on the same side. You could tell the moment they met, they were going to butt heads one way or another. Natalie was so charismatic that it was easy for her to win the town people over, but Sam's family's livelihood depended on her project failing. He kept finding problems with her project. But would any one of them be big enough to shut down. I stayed up all night reading this charming romance there was no way to put it down. I had to see what was going to happen next. I highly recommend you give it a read.

The cowboy and his city girl - Sam and Natalie were destined to be together for a few reasons, not the least of which is that his family embraced her despite her job trying to get a fancy resort built near their property. At first it was to keep the enemy, pretty as she was, close; later because she seemed genuinely invested in the best outcome for all parties. Gran's a good judge of character after all.
A sweet romance with the best characters (Gramps is a hoot!) that takes readers to the wilds of Marietta, MT and Copper Mountain once again. I love how the Tule authors keep MT on my mind. Big Sky Country, here I come, once I can be as brave as Sam.

Choosing the Montana Cowboy is book 1 in the Miles of Montana series by Kyra Jacobs 4.5 stars
Sam Miles, single dad, overseeing the Flying J ranch while his parents are on an extended vacation and dealing with the possibility of a new resort to be built on the ranch next door which could potentially put the Flying J out of business. Natalie Wright comes to town to discuss the new resort and to get the town’s approval to move forward…Sam will do whatever it takes to stop it…from the beginning sparks fly between them, lots of snark, banter, cowboy versus city girl, endangered species, promotion, obstacles and more…read on to see if they can find a HEA together.

Natalie has been sent by her company to research putting a resort in Montana. Trouble seems to be that not enough work has been done in advance. At the town meeting, she encounters Sam and his family. His ranch would be badly affected, but her promotion seems to rely on this job. The chemistry is instant but Sam has been hurt before by the 'city' woman, will Natalie be any different?

This book brought all the good Montana cowboy feels, complete with a city girl who just might disrupt his life for the better!! Sam and Natalie were such a wonderful pair to get to know. Their initial banter was so fun to watch as it slowly morphed into something more. Along their journey would be lots off pitfalls, hard fought battles, and possibly the best reward of all. This book was a wonderful read that makes me want to visit Montana and see some of those spectacular sunsets with my hunny!!
Natalie needs this one last project to get her the promotion that will let her settle down and travel less for work. Sam’s family ranch, the Flying J is on the land that borders the property that Natale wants to build a resort on. Not to mention that the Flying J ranch has cabins they rent out. This is going to hit the ranch hard. When Natalie spends time with Sam and his daughter she starts to be concerned that her company does not know the whole truth about the property. Then she teams up with Sam to try and save the ranch. His daughter mentions the endangered species of ferrets on the property and that gives them hope of stopping the project. It was enjoyable to watch their relationship grow. Sometimes the things you want the most end up being less important than the new things you find along the way. Good read.
When Natalie is sent to Marietta Montana to present a planned resort just outside town but next to the ranch owned by the Miles family she never expected to fall for the Sam the oldest and most outspoken son. This is the story of how they met and how their relationship developed through the obstacles they had to work through.

Natalie thought it would be a slam dunk to convince the town to accept her employer’s new resort. She didn’t expect immediate opposition for sexy single father Sam. But the more time she spends with him and his family the more she starts to see red flags to her company’s plans and lose her heart. Natalie and Sam jump pretty quickly into an intimate relationship. She has one foot out the door from the beginning but can he give her a reason to stay?
Natalie and Sam are on opposite sides of the building of a resort beside Sam's family's ranch just outside of town. Natalie's job depends upon getting the town to agree but when she gets there she discovers there hasn't been enough research done. As they work through whether the resort will be built or not they end up working on their relationship as well. A great read!.

Love this story between Natalie and Sam. Natalie is traveling to Montana to research putting a resort in that location when she meets up with Sam and his family at a town meeting to discuss the resort. She is instantly drawn to Sam and his family, who will lose a large portion of their ranch in this deal and she doesn't want to hurt them but she really wants her promotion that is tied to this deal going through.
I loved Sam and Natalie's story. In the beginning they did not always agree and they butted heads more then once. They always had chemistry. Natalie had a job to do and Sam was in her way. The question is would they be able to figure a way to be together while also giving both of them what they wanted. Great read. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I love being back in Marietta Montana. Sam Miles is fighting to preserve the legacy of his family . Natalie represents the company that would like to change everything ! The first place they meet is at the town meeting. You can definitely feel the chemistry between these two, and the emotional attention because they’re on opposite sides of this scenario. This was an amazing read with wonderful characters.
Thank you Tule publishing for this ARC in return for my honest review.
I really loved reading about Natalie and Sam in this Montana cowboy romance book by Kyra. This is my first book I have read by her, and I loved how she writes and grabs your attention with the characters and their romance story. I am really excited to see what the next book in this series all is about and if it is anything like this romance book it is going to be another 5-star read.
Natalie was in Montana to convince the town they needed a new resort, she never expected to find someone like Sam. When a new location for a resort in another town becomes her responsibility Natalie has some decisions to make. I liked how their relationship developed, all the experiences they shared and the choices they have to make.
Wonderful story of love blooming alongside conflict. Love-between rancher Sam and building project manager Natalie. Conflict-she is in Marietta to champion a luxury hotel that is going to drastically affect Sam’s family’s lodge and ranch. Resolution? Read and find out. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Nice start to a new series. I look forward to spending more time in Montana with the Miles family. A sweet romance. Several interesting characters. Thanks to Booksprout for providing a copy. My review is voluntary.
Choosing the Montana Cowboy shows it's heart while speaking it's mind. From humorous dialogue with an edge of sass, to irresistible characters that expose their soul, Jacobs pushes all the right buttons with heartwarming accuracy.
Adored the characters and their relationship from the second Natalie dumped punch on Sam. Great read full of emotion, laughter and a good sense of family and what’s important
