This body of work was absolutely stunning. The collection of poetry felt less like reading and more like being immersed in something deeply restorative despite most poems being very short. I’m not even sure “stunning” is the right word, because the experience went far beyond admiration. As stated it was immensive as well as soothing, and profoundly healing.
What struck me most was the constant interplay between softness and power. Her poetry holds a gentle tenderness, yet it carries an undeniable force that moves quietly but decisively through the reader. That juxtaposition created a rhythm that felt both grounding and elevating.
The imagery with the water themes throughout was vivid and evocative, offering rich material for reflection and journaling. At times, the experience felt almost euphoric — a kind of emotional exhale I didn’t realise I needed. Reading it slowly became its own ritual; the language had a sedative, calming quality that invited me to linger, breathe, and absorb.
This is a beautiful collection of healing and deep expression. It doesn’t just speak — it resonates, restores, and stays with you long after the final poem.
This was gifted to me by a friend, who didn’t know that Emory Hall’s spoken poetry album with her husband was discovered during the start of my third trimester. How poetic to have been so loved by it then, and then gifted this book during my fourth trimester. Finishing this book just after 17 weeks of postpartum healed parts of me that have been raw, untouched. It help knit back parts of me that were ripped wide open, and help integrate one of my old identities into my new skin.
This is a beautiful collection of poems. It is so full of insight and longing and becoming and realness. I’m sure that I will revisit it again! Highly recommend.
